So I went to visit my old prof in Cambridge who i did a phd with, beacuse he was hosting his retiring party.

Anyway long story short we get talking. He had a lot to say about Elon Mask.

Apparatenlty Elon Mask is a total fraud and dumb as bricks. Its all going to crumble one day and all his investors have no idea.

He is pulling of one of the biggest scams of 21st century with his space programme and Tesla.
>>
>>108097762

Yeah, my dad worked at Ford and said when they inspected the Tesla they literally laughed because it was so shittily made. Said not even our own shitty workers could do this poorly.

Elon Musk owns the company and employs hundreds of talented intelligent workers.

A good company doesn't rely on the intelligence of one man. He's essentially just the figurehead. The head of state.

I saw Elon Musk at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Aside from the geological and possibly biological history of an almost entirely untouched world to study and learn from, sure. Nothing.

That's not why he wants to send people there, though. His single purpose in life, as he's stated every single time he talks about the future of Spacex and his goals, is to make humanity a multiplanetary species, in order to make it more difficult for us to go extinct. He's concerned about the survival of the species, first and foremost, and the best way to do that is to establish off-planet colonies. Having lots of human populations on many celestial bodies, insulated by millions of miles of empty space from the wars and natural disasters that could befall the others, is a much more viable strategy than keeping everyone cooped up on the same planet, where we could all simultaneously fall prey to supervolcanoes, enormous asteroids, or our own weapons.

Also forgot to add, the general consensus is that TSLA's stock price is overpriced by about 50% and that the real value of the company lies around the $140 stock price range (as opposed to the current $244). The sole reason for the high over-valuation is the hype he generates by talking constantly. Maybe he could've ran for senate or president with a campaign for a technocracy-like government if he wasn't from SA, at least he's good at rallying baseless hype from the nerds and would get some relevant support, even if he's autistic and stutters

>His single purpose in life .... is to make humanity a multiplanetary species

Except that this is obviously false. We have the ability to colonize Mars today, but not by following the roadmap outlined by Musk.

Musk proposes that we resign ourselves to leaving Earth via rockets, that is to say, he insists that leaving Earth should always be extremely expensive and therefore rare and without much self-sustaining economic rationale.

Instead, we should be pursuing the fact that a space elevator is both technologically possible and extremely cheap today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qezLhypA0Y [Embed] [Embed]

The key idea is the Orbital Ring version of the space elevator, not the geosynchronous tether concept you are familiar with.

See, for example, Paul Birch's writings:

http://www.orionsarm.com/fm_store/OrbitalRings-I.pdf

The orbital ring only requires tethers about 300 kilometers long which is technically feasible with common material like steel, but ridiculously straightforward with better and already available material like kevlar.
>>
>>108119220
There are some important questions. First, how much would it cost to do something like this?

We need to send about 160 million kilograms of material into space (See Birch's boot strap estimates in part 2: http://www.orionsarm.com/fm_store/OrbitalRings-II.pdf)

We have rockets available at $2000/kg costs to LEO today in "mass production" mode, which is only about 10-20 launches per year. Compared with the couple thousand launches necessary for a space elevator, $2000 is an unreasonably high upper bound for launch costs.

We also need to include the cost of materials. A space elevator is about 98% steel and aluminum, 1% kevlar, and 1% other such as superconducting magnets. Most of the mass (98%) cost around $1/kg, with an average cost per kilogram of no more than about $10 per kilogram.

Summing the above up, we get about $430 billion in launch costs plus another $1-2 billion in material costs.

In other words, we can have a space elevator for less than $450 billion - significantly less than one year worth of DoD spending, one bank bailout, many times less than a variety of pointless wars, etc. This is well within our reach financially in other words.

What do we get in return for this $450 billion investment?

Virtually unlimited value. For example, with a space elevator we can reliably launch our nuclear waste into the sun. We've spent $100 billion building a waste repository in Nevada, but it was ultimately decided not to even use it. Now it costs only a dollar or two per kilogram to get rid of all of the nuclear waste in the world.

Second, we have immediate access to viable asteroid mining industry. Because the cost of delivering payloads to LEO drops to about $1/kilogram, we can not retrieve asteroids with trillions of dollars worth of minerals for mere tens millions of dollars in addition to having an easy viable way of returning those resources back to the surface.

We acquire the ability to deploy profitable solar power in orbit above cloud cover and with the ability to return said power back to the surface with near zero loss by running power transmission cables down the elevator.

Just how profitable?

With increased luminosity in space, enhanced exposure time, and the ability to deliver base loads, solar panels pay for themselves in only 1-2 years while having a 20 year life time.

In other words, if you put $5 trillion of solar panels into space, you get your $5 trillion back by the end of year two and a $5 trillion income stream each year thereafter.

In other words, the US could cut everyone's taxes, both personal and business, income, capital, death, or otherwise, all to 0%, not even cut any benefits or current spending, and pay off the national debt within a decade.

The desire for mankind to reach to the stars, to strive for something greater has to be subverted because this desire immediately leads to an unburdening of the species of the weight of governments.

Not only is a space elevator possible today, building a space elevator leads immediately to massive economic growth, obviates the need for taxation, unburdens the world of the debt-scheme frauds, and so on.

In short, proper dreaming of reaching for the stars frees mankind in a broadly systemic way. Therefore your attention must be directed away from what can work in a self-sustaining and profitable way towards ultimately pointless one-off endeavors like brief visits to Mars with no schema for supporting sustainable adventure.

People like Musk and their misdirection can only thrive in an environment of ignorance though. Relieve yourself of it, and then do the same to others.
>>
>>108097762
Doesn't really matter if Musk is stupid, he has hundreds of incredibly bright people working under him. You don't need someone incredibly intelligent to sell a company, you just need a smart figurehead. I'm not convinced Elon is actually stupid, I think he probably contributes in some way to his company. But it doesn't matter, because he sells the ideas well enough and there's enough behind him that it's all working out.

If you're actually as educated as you claim to be I feel like you'd know this.

Alot of his company is based around harvesting tax dollars from the government. Tesla gets a lot of money through ev credits from California and the only reason anyone buys his cars in the first place is because of the substantial tax breaks and other subsidies. Solar City is completely reliant on certain favorable government policies that require energy providers to effectively subsidize consumer solar panels. He's not a total hack but not nearly the genius people pretend he is.

elon isnt a fraud but spaceX wont provide any real innovation. the ammount dumped into spaceX is secretly mostly the american government looking for a replacement to the icbm system. currently and ever since it was created your talking appolo class rockets which are huge , cant be used just any where and cannot be fueled and ready to go. there are no silos waiting to be used at a moments notice that was debunked by the american government. most of the alleged silos are to small to house a appolo class rocket and where toxic waste that varuous states had agreed to have buried on their land for additional government money.

icbms have to be assembled then fueled then fired thats time you may not have. solid fuel rockets can be a viable solution since they are not super cold like liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen but spaceX only tested the concept and uses liquid fuel (hydrogen + oxygen) for almost all their test

It's a scam because the business is only profitable due to government subsidies. Consumers get thousands of dollars in tax credits for buying the cars on top of the already generous subsidies that governments give to electric vehicle producers. Look up california's EV credit system sometime. Tesla gets handed a shit ton of money from other car manufacturers just so they can comply with California EV quotas.
>>
>>108116925
He's putting a lot of money in R&D (your burger tax money of course). Many of these ideas are retarded and will end up giving nothing and being a massive scam.

It's not like he made electric cars by himself.

He is literally funding scientists to break us out of the so-called matrix we live in. What the hell does he expect to accomplish by doing this? Colonizing other planets is truly securing the existence of our people and a future for white children.

EVs are being subsidized by EU too not just America. Also there are cities in germany that in the future will not even allow non electric cars during certain periods to drive there for example Stuttgart and Munich. Paris is planning to ban all cars that have combustion engines.

Musk used all of this to his advantage and he will succeed with his Tesla business unless other automakers are going to be better.

He is not losing thousands on every unit. He make a profit for sure. The thing is he uses the profit for his supercharger free power and to expand the network. But he will not give the energy for free anymore beginning now so everybody buying now will have to pay for the power he will make a very healthy profit and his businessmodel is brilliant. Through kickstarting this race other manufacturers will also build vehicle and increase demand. I am sure he will sell batteries to mercedes and Volkswagen.

We will see similar EVs from german manufacturers. With similar or even better range. And they will make profits. So Musk is making profits or the big players would never adopt the same businessmodel.

He is not a scammer atleast with Tesla. Maybe with Space X he is I did not look into this.

actually, they haven;t. Elon musk is a bit like an autistic steve jobs - great motivator, clever, but not brilliant, and neither are his engineers necessarily.

A lot of the work on space-X engines was done on (quietly negotiated) contract , their rocket design is really nothing to write home about, and the whole landing-vertical thing is a bit of a meme, though that's a longer story with a deep technical background and years of internal gov't-run-space-agency arguments.

as for Tesla, literally the only thing unique about it is the battery pack using consumer electronic spec small cells. there are arguments against this being a good idea as well, and there is a good reason that the some 100,000+ engineers in the auto industry still aren't hopping on that particular bandwagon.

also, the home batteries are fucking retarded. they're literally designed to take adavantage of electric company pricing policies. guess what happens when a bunch of people use them - companies change their policies, and then they're just useless.

Every single person who owns a Telsa backs it 100% and they are now trying to make them more affordable - also the lifetime warranty really does make it a reason to believe it's the last car you'll ever own.

I sell their marketing department a lot of camera equipment and have to do special classes with them to show them advanced techniques with our gear. >how quickly development happens

development doesn't happen quickly.

Optimization happens quickly. Idea-Mixing is fast.

fundamental R&D takes decades.

the things that we as consumers enjoy today are almost universally 60-50 years old. in some cases, "cutting edge" technologies existed in laboratories as long as 90 years ago.

the list includes -

-Cellular phones - concept is now over 70 years old, early prototypes were 40 years ago.
-Solid State electronics - the physics were understood as far back as 100 years ago, and simple transistor-like assemblies existed by the 1930's
-LED's - effect discovered 110 years ago, first real honest-to-god LED is 90 years old.
-Photovoltaics - over 1110 years old, consumer grade is over 50 years old, efficiency of consumer grade PV's has not improved significantly since then. the 20 - 30% efficiencies being reported in labs are expected to take 15 - 20 years to reach market.
-3D printing - deposition of adhesive coated spheres dates back to the 1960's, UV cured polymer Stereolitography was being done in labs a short while later, some 45 - 50 years ago.
-Electric Cars - over 110 years old. early electric cars were actually significantly better than early gas cars.

so basically, all of this shit we think of as being amazing has been in the academic sphere for almost a century in many cases. the thing that allows technology to advance, and the biggest Boon to progress in this century has been the awakening of the public to things long forgotten or considered un-economic.

More to the point with your roof tiles - those tiles aren;t very efficient, they cost a fuckload compared to traditional roofing, and they have to be replaced and maintained before you break even with being "on the grid" this is true world-round. Never mind that they're still an intermittent energy solution at best, and they they consume tons of oil to produce, and that the Chinese control the poly silicon market

dude, do you realize that being smart as a scientist doesn't make you rich or some shit?

you can be an ace in STEM and being poor as fuck, with global recognition, remembered by history but poor or without above average income.

you can be dumb as fuck in everything else but good at business and you will be rich. It's a different kind of skillset.

Even if Elon is not the brightest guy out there, he is rich so I guess your professor is just salty that he with a PhD and working in a prestigious university isn't as rich as him.

Study and work in what you love, but if you want to be rich, you are no gonna get it having high scores or working your ass till night.

So I went to visit my old prof in Cambridge who i did a phd with, beacuse he was hosting his retiring party.

Anyway long story short we get talking. He had a lot to say about ur mum. Apparently she's a whore, and you suck cocks.

Oh cool. Your broke no name unsuccessful college professor thinks Elon is a fraud. Maybe he is and if reddit likes him he's probably a kite cuckold pos, but he's still done more and worth more and a million times cooler than some failure in academia who lives in a studio apartment with his cat.

Hollywood conditions idiot Amerikans to ally themselves with the false notion of a plucky noble hero that falls a bit short because he tried too hard for too much. The media Jew sets 'em up and Elonboi knocks 'em down......*sniff at least we were part of something special...*sniff.
