>Tomonaga noted that the Lupin III anime that his generation watched four decades ago was completely different from the previous anime aimed at children. He added that it had a very huge impact on the diehard adult fanbase. For the generation that already experienced that amazement as well as the generation unaware of those days, Tomonaga wants to make an exciting animation that is realistic yet sprinkled with fantastic elements. Furthermore, he wants to depict a Lupin in which conflicting elements coexist — hard-boiled yet comical, cool yet tongue-in-cheek.
When did you guys grow out of Lupin?
Gonna model some Lupin III stuff in clay.
You don't simply grow out of Lupin.
never. his kind of character never gets old
Lupin the Third? More like POOP on the TURD
Post yfw this theme gets remastered for the new series.
>The series is set to have its world premiere on Italy's RTI channel next spring.
>mfw I live in Italy
Might be cool
And here's the other key visual from a photo which I've tried to fix the perspective on. Weird that it isn't online officially already.
looks like attack on titan.....
Why is Zenigata so moe?
Do I need to watch Lupin I and II?
Probably when I was about 16. It's still a fun series though.
>Yuuya Takahashi (Donten ni Warau, Tiger & Bunny, Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen Daisuke no Bohyō) is in charge of the series scripts.
Cute through cluelessness.
Honestly, if that happened, im pretty sure everyone would collectively shit themselves
Wait a minute, if this is still a prequel series, does that mean no Goemon?
Here's hoping for a more Monkey Punch-like Lupin. I love dark and offensive humor.
The crew and the director's words leave me hopeful, but the art style definitely doesn't feel like the manga. Not that it's bad in its own way mind you.
I don't know about the Jigen movie, but is this:
>Tiger & Bunny (TV) : Script (6 episodes 9-10, 12, 16, 20, 22 )
a good track record? I haven't watched it.
Predictions of what places we'll see?
I bet on:
Florence or Tuscany
San Leo's fortress
Neaples or something like Capri
San Marino, of course
The Alps or Garda lake
Sicily, probably the Etna
You are supposed to speak it lypa, right?
>>I don't know about the Jigen movie, but is this:
>>Tiger & Bunny (TV) : Script (6 episodes 9-10, 12, 16, 20, 22 )
>a good track record? I haven't watched it.
It's decent. T&B is a solid series and relatively similiar to Lupin, with the goofy protagonist and action.
I'm still waiting for the Jigen movie to get subbed.
>Lupin the IIIrd
>Lupin the the thirdird
My OCD is flaring up guys...
they did the same when they edited the manga here in spain
But III is the roman numeral for three, and does not mean "third" by itself. It's just understood that when appended to a name, it means the third of that name.
It's not even out
>this faggot again
I'm excited that I will get to following a live series release of Lupin III, but it doesn't need a sticky. Please tell me you aren't that same faggot from yesterday
Sorry to disappoint you, this is my first Lupin thread in a while
Lupin is james bond tier trash.
I am, faggot. This should be a sticky.
I know it's been years, but I wonder if that Lupin music guy is alright. I hope he's alright, his weekly threads were always nice.
>Growing out of Lupin
No it shouldn't. If you think more than 10 people on /a/ even care about it you are very wrong. Look how slow this thread is.
It's much more ridiculous than Bond ever was.
Its the truth though.
>If you think more than 10 people on /a/ even care about i
this makes me sad, also last thread was pretty fast
Couple latest anime A Woman Called Fujiko Mine and Jigen's Gravestone were kind of dark with their own fresh art direction, so here's hoping.
>thinking this is the first thread about this
If you don't count the userbase with shit taste that's like 95% of it, so yeash, it should be a sticky.
Sure, but Fujiko was mostly stiff and serious. I hope Gravestone is more fun but it's looking pretty action focused and serious.
It's too bad considering some of Koike's early production sheets, they had dynamic expressions almost lifted from the manga. He got stuck with the wrong Lupin project.
>Logo is just a straight up Italian flag in the middle of the name
Sooo is Lupin popular in italy?
Don't forget to ask if people in Russia love vodka next time.
>Didn't read thread
I will eat you.
I am not a clever man
As much as watermelon is among niggers.
>Lupin will be associated with you country FOREVER
Feels good, doesn't it?
But it has.
I'm not Italian, but I do have to thank those spaghetti munchers for getting me the new Lupin series I've wanted for years now. I always hoped a new Lupin series would have a blue jacket, between that Jigen movie and this my dick is rock hard right now.
I'm pretty sure he'll make appearance.
Where are you getting prequel series from? I doubt they'd leave out any member of the team.
That picture is very cool.
I swear there was actually some art that Monkey Punch did where Lupin was wearing a blue jacket. I'm having a hell of a time finding it again though.
He's gonna get set on fire. Again.
This is neo /a/
So, Lupin likes them young, right?
Nah man. He'd never harvest a fruit before it was ready.
Are they gonna keep the art style and mature ratings of the last anime? Because I kinda liked that.
Look at the damn picture.
The OP and >>115331815 is the most answer you'll get for now. Koike's not returning for art this time.
remember the fujiko anime
i liked the titties in that.
He's willing to raise his own sheep.
Older Lupin works had titties without LINES.
why not como's lake? it's filled with castles and rich people
I'd rather see the dolomites,
The Dolomites are part of the Alps, anon.
I live in the Dolomites.
I can almost see Heidi.
Is Lupin visiting his grandmother?
yeah I know that, but alps is too generic. I have a house there too btw
You have more than one house?
yeah, I have a chalet near cortina
This is just plain fanservice for the biggest Rupan fanbase after Japan, Italy. Italy is crazy about Lupin III, nearly everybody has a Lupin shirt, or figurine or DVD. Everybody watched it as a child and still watches it now. I'm really hyped for this!
Neat. I recall Lupin using similar kinds of housing as hideouts.
This is great.
>>Lupin will be associated with you country FOREVER
>Feels good, doesn't it?
But isn't Arsène Lupin the First, FRENCH?
>my fathers face when I told him the news
Yeah, but nobody gives a fuck about that anymore.
I give a little bit of a fuck. Muh immersion and all that.
I'll punish you!
Also, there's no subs yet of the last movie?
I didn't like Lupin when I was first introduced to it on AdultSwim many moons ago.
Now, I'm on season 2 and occasionally I get my rocks off by fantasizing about being the little girl Lupin takes in for whatever reason. All these manly men, /a/, I just can't help but want them to scold me.
I fell for it pretty hard. It looked different from all the other anime on television at the time. I think what sold me on it was the second opening which AS actually used as a promo for the series because it was just that cool.
I know that feel. I was thirteen or fourteen at the time and I developed a major crush on Lupin. Hard to believe that was over ten years ago.
Cagliostro isn't a Lupin movie,it's a Miyazaki.
The fuck am I reading?
>hard-boiled yet comical, cool yet tongue-in-cheek.
>5X years old
This is gonna suck.
>one of the guys behind secret of mamo
>is gonna suck
i am celebrating
he obviously means it's a miyazaki movie and not a lupin movie
though i don't see how it can't be both
>old people aren't able to make anime
Can't be worse than 98% of seasonal anime. This is not gonna suck, at best it will be underwhelming because of the high expectations. Look at the fucking promo art, sure, it's just two pictures but it's good, it has a good vibe.
my italian body is ready.
I know, I was just teasing him.
His body was not ready, though.
The art direction is based on that of Little Nemo & TMS' Disney output rather then moe.
Heres hoping that some Tiny Toons/Animaniacs art direction shows up.
Tomonaga was directing stuff since the early 80s, he did.
>The opening to Inspector Gadget (director & sakuga)
>Half of Little Nemo (animation director)
>A good amount of Disney & Warner Bros stuff (depends)
>Treasure Of The Golden Suns part 3 (TMS director)
>Parts of How I Spent My Vacation (animation director)
>The opening of Batman:TAS, Feet Of Clay Part 2 and both parts of The Demons Quest.
>Hot, Bothered, and Bedeviled (sakugaed 70% of it).
He means that Miyazaki is the pedophile, not Lupin.
Miyazaki is not a pedo!
>Before anyone brings up Totoro.
Oh, seems about right since he "invented" the loli pantyshot.
NEW LUPIN SHOW
SO THATS AN INSTA-WATCH
Lupin will never make a chase here ;_;
So where should I start watching this? It sounds like there's two version of the same anime. I really have no clue what I'm on about.
There's lots of options where to start from, but you'll get hang of the usual plot.
You should start off with Castle of Cagliostro, but it's very lighthearted because it's Miyazaki film. It won't feature origin of character's background, little heads up.
A Woman Called Fujiko Mine is also is decent pick for early viewers, but it focuses less on the protagonist of series.
the franchise as whole has little to no continuity, most of it just being lupin and the gang's adventures around the globe. you can start pretty much wherever
you could binge through all if it in order of release, but we're talking about 200+ episodes spanning three different shows, as well as a boatload of theatrical films, tv specials and ovas
>The opening of Batman:TAS
I don't even care how much this belongs in /co/,
but Tomonaga is pretty badass.
The fuma conspiracy is good.
As popular as Mazinger Z in Spain.
Tomonaga also Sakugaed this for Kenji Hachizaki as well.
And him as a director.
Tomonaga also did part 3 of Treasure Of The Golden Suns (Toshihiko Masuda did parts 1 & 5, Nobuo Tomizawa did part 2 and Hisao Yokobori did part 4), here is a review of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRaiF72D1ow
Madness, but I like it.
As a side note, rerelease of Cagliostro soon. Looking forward to finally owning a copy.
Blue a shit
Wait for the BD release
Never. And been a fan for three decades.
Whoa, so did that guy just animate the opening or did he create it from scratch?
I don't want to derail further into /co/ but the Batman AS opening is one of the best things ever to come out of a cartoon.
It's not just the animation of it that makes it so great though. Still if that Tomonaga guy is the one working on this new Lupin then I'm hyped
I haven't watched a series that's been discussed on /a/ in forever, I haven't even watched Space Dandy yet. But I'm so hyped for more Lupin you bet your ass I'll be coming to this board for the subs
Just please don't be as disappointing as the Fujiko series
Also, where are the subs for the new Jigen movie? After the mediocrity of the more recent Lupin OVAs/specials I'm really looking forward to this one.
I think due to being a theatrical release it'll probably take until somebody buys the DVD/BluRay.
Personally I hope that Discotek picks it up.
Bruce Timm did the storyboards and timing, Tomonaga did everything else except for ink & pant stuff and shooting.
Don't worry, it's from the same TMS crew that did DuckTales, Little Nemo, Tiny Toons, Batman:TAS and Animaniacs, it's in excellent hands, best they can get.
It doesn't mean much since they are even more crazy about mazinger z.
Speaking of which Kazuhide Tomonaga also worked on Mazinger Z when he was at Oh Pruductions (who contracted it from Toei) (Tomonaga started at Oh Pro in the early 70s before going over to Telecom in 78 for more money).
That was garbage.
Stickies get spammed to hell.
I always recomend The episode 0: First Contact TV special for starters. It shows more or less how everyone got together and its a good middle ground between the darker and the more lighthearted works.
I'm so excited
It looks like it's gonna be a proper Lupin show
I always wondered why Lupin is so popular in Italy, and why Conan is so popular in Germany. If the last movie ended with one side winning we might have entered another world war.
As an Italian I've always wondered why Lupin isn't a sensation in the rest of the world too.
it comes out in Italy first?
Is Lupin popular in france?
Probably the same deal that Space Dandy got in America.
>Germany likes Conan
Never knew Conan was big outside of Japan. In fact until recently I didn't know Conan was still continuing. I get that it's pretty much like Lupin since nobody ages and it's the same story and all but I thought the main story was that he was looking for the guy who turned him into a kid?
The artstyle is off-putting to me
I absolutely despise that special and can't even fathom how anyone could enjoy that garbage. Horrible way to introduce someone to Lupin III.
I thought the worst was Red vs Blue
>I get that it's pretty much like Lupin
Sounds like they've assembled a team of the most well-regarded staff ever involved with Lupin (apart from Miyazaki, Otsuka and Dezaki, though he can't help being dead.)
Really, the remaining deciding factor is the amount of cash Italy will give it.
Red VS Green is pretty bad.
I only liked the fan service.
I thought Bloodseal Eternal Mermaid was a good special, even if it gets weird towards the end. Then again, I'm use to the series being weird, so it wasn't really an issue for me.
Conan is very big in Italy too. It's like the only anime even my 50 years old mother would watch.
>there are people out there who legitimately hate Castle of Cagliostro just because Miyazaki was involved
Go back to imgur
i really liked last lupin series with fujiko. dunno why /a/ brushed it off as hipster-shit...
The only problem I had with Green vs Red is that it didn't have enough of the Lupin with the giant robot.
Same here, anon.
I seriously enjoyed it.
To each their own.
It got labeled as being 3deep5me because of the owl bullshit.
Personally, I actually liked the ending.
It's not a new, proper Lupin series without a new jacket color. As much as I liked the green jacket being used in Fujiko Mine, I was real tired of the whole franchise just sticking to green and red for the last thirty years. Maybe one day TMS will stop trying to forget the Pink Jacket series happened and give that fashion nightmare one last hurrah.
>Personally, I actually liked the ending.
I loved that shit. They spend the entire series building up this new, dark past for Fujiko to explain away her whore-ish, thieving ways, and then NOPE, FUCK THAT she's just that way naturally and nothing is going to change it. The whole thing felt like a parody of unnecessary reboots and character rewrites.
It helped that the show itself was just damn pretty to look at and the soundtrack was amazing
this my youtube page...
I never got around to uploading the whole thing because I felt this track along with the others were the best.
This one definitely being the best.
>I loved that shit. They spend the entire series building up this new, dark past for Fujiko to explain away her whore-ish, thieving ways, and then NOPE, FUCK THAT she's just that way naturally and nothing is going to change it.
Same here. I actually would have been bother if it had actually been her past, and that's why I thought /a/ disliked it. I really liked A Woman Called Fujiko Mine.
I despise it when an anime tries to explain a character's bad behavior with "OH she is just like that because she was traumatized." I liked that it made no excuses or apologies for Fujiko.
Who is going to voice Zenigata? ;_;
dont be stupid
You can't stop me.
Just read Lupin I. That should get you all caught up.
blue suit Lupin? weird. non the less this is great news
Italy is supposed to fund the show's pre production when France is funding the animation, so expect the budget to be $600,000 to $1,000,000 (pre production is locked at $300,000)
Bloodseal Eternal Mermaid was also done by Telecom, they did a good amount of Lupin work
I don't see why people keep saying the new jacket is weird, up until the late-80's, every anime era was known primarily by the Green, Red, and Pink jackets. They were bound to add a new one sooner or later.
Well, duh; it's too narrow for a 500.
It's okay. Lupin has fit into tight places before.
> Mercedes Benz SSK
> One of the rarest cars in the world
> Lupin keeps wrecking them
Its the REAL reason there are so few left.
Makes sense, I guess.
I hope he goes after the one owned by Ralph Lauren.
