ITT: we discuss why SAO is not good

I was recently casually recommended SAO by a number of people on this board; shortly after, there was a deluge of people advising against SAO, calling the suggesters faggots, plebs etc...

Anyways, I gave SAO a look. And I think I can understand why some people are so vehemently against it.

I don't think it's terrible mind you. I've certainly seen far more offensive content and much much worse production values, but coming from someone who genuinely wanted to give it a chance despite all the criticism; there is something intrinsically disappointing about SAO.

I've got like 5 or 6 episodes left so I'll soldier through and finish it, might as well.

But the premise had a LOT of potential; sure it isn't entirely unique (if you die in the game, you die irl!), but I was quite disappointed they didn't run with the more interesting premise and make more of a social comedy about how videogamers are; I like that they tried to weave in something about rare drops and boss raids etc... But they made it too much like some generic fantasy setting rather than focusing on the more interesting premise of the whole thing being a game and the unreal logic that goes alongside.

The whole 'romance' subplot was OK while it was a subplot, but got corny and cringe inducing when they full on got married and moved to a cabin by the lake and adopted an AI that they planned to bring to the real world when they got back

The whole 'final act' seems kind of out of place. I was pretty confused when the "final battle" happened with ~10 episodes remaining.

I guess the whole "his sister wants his D" subplot is worth mentioning for how unexpected it was. I always thought stuff like that belonged in spiderman threads and were the kind of thing any group with production values would avoid like abortion jokes. It's kinda funny I guess

The thing where every single named female character the MC runs into instantly wants to fuck got played out pretty fast too.

Personal I liked it but I'm into it I like the story and subplots and even felt very ecstatic when they got married (when I don't believe on marriage) and when they got ai it was nice made it feel like they had a real family. the whole sister wants the d plays well with the genre being fantasy when his sis was cute as fxck. All in all I watched season 1 and I loved it 10/10 in my book and hoping season 2 makes me love it more!

sometimes people arent trolling, they just have bad taste

in all seriousness, I dont hate sao as much as the average person, but the part youre describing as your favorite is objectively the worst part
