You're a season late, buddy.
This season's pretty good. Just watch some random show without looking it up too much, makes it a lot more enjoyable and surprising.

Not OP, but Nozaki-kun is good because it's funny. It's the funniest anime since Working. The jokes make you laugh, not just chuckle.

I've been watching Amagi Park, but it's not funny. It's supposed to be a comedy, but all the jokes are tired cliches that make you want to bomb Japan. I won't drop it, because I want to know what happens, but it's objectively unfunny.
>>
>nothing good to watch
Nonsense, just download Garo's OP sequence and watch that on loop for ~20 minutes every day.
>>
>>115303107
10 to me is something I enjoyed a lot, would rewatch, would rec to friends and garnered enough hype or endearment to have a nice post series after glow. I don't espouse to have objective taste for the 'best shows'. There's a criteria with an open limit and I judge things on that.
Maybe I'm easy to please but if its just liking good things more I don't mind. I still drop things I don't like.

The fan service is on the nose as is the yuri and at this point episodic rape. The story is tired and predicable but I guess people aren't really there for that.
I wouldn't mind if the characters were better but the rapeyuri kind tarnished a lot of it. That said its two eps in and they were all introduced on the second so who knows.
>Hover bikes
Sort of cool. I'm waiting for Ep3 so I can see how the action is going to look. I've seen some pics of ground battle too which looked great.

Its not shit that's for sure but there's not much to praise yet either.

You were the one who was a spastic and ignored when I said exactly that when this shit started. Instead you bitched about rapeyuri and implied characterization hadn't taken an initial hit because of it.
Answer your question?
>>
So far this season is a fantastic closer to an already great year. The expected good shows are great and there are a lot of surprise gems as well. 2014 confirmed for being the newer better 2010.
>>
>>115304411
But characterization hasn't taken a hit from the rapeyuri, that was my point.
>>
Best season this year. (Only good one, really.)
>>
>>115304555
I feel it did and here we are. Both aware that its early on in the series and with large groups characterization takes time.
I just think that the shadow the alpha lesbians cast exasperates the problem.
>>
>>115303364
I like Nozaki but Working isn't funny.
>>
>>115304668
I disagree, I feel that the constant rapeyuri situation will allow the characters more growth and differentiation, by how they react to the constant rapeyuri.
This would be a good chance to have some well-fleshed out characters and subtle characterization.
>>
>>115304762
I have to agree with this. I dropped Working around 4 episodes in.

Nozaki-kun's jokes are so puritan and sweet that it feels like a Disney sitcom. Barakamon's humor had more of a sharp feeling to it.
>>
I agree with the people who say this is the best season in a long time. I can't remember actually having to backlog legitimately good shows simply because I didn't have the time in the week to watch them all. I'm currently watching 30 shows, but I don't see that number falling below 25 after I whittle it down to just the good ones.

>I'm watching:
Ai Tenchi Muyou
Akame ga Kill (summer carryover)
Akatsuki no Yona
Amagi Brilliant Park
Cross Ange
Danna ga Nani wo Itteru ka Wakaranai Ken
Denki-gai no Honya-san
Fate Stay Night: UBW
Grisaia no Kajitsu
Gugure! Kokkuri-san
Hitsugi no Chaika 2
Inou Battle
Jinsei (summer show, but still waiting on subs)
Log Horizon 2
Mandan no Ou to Vanadis
Nanatsu no Taizai
Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu
Parasyte
Psycho-Pass 2
WIXOSS 2
Shingeki no Bahamut
Sora no Method
Sword Art Online 2 (summer carryover)

>I'll probably drop (giving it 3 episodes, though):
Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai
Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji (I like it so far, but historically, these shows become repetitive and boring after 3 episodes)
Terra Formars (I don't care about all the shitposting manga fans from /b/ who make this seem like hot shit, it's a boring anime)
Trinity Seven
World Trigger

In case it needed elaboration...

>>115309567
The only notable anime here are Natsume Yuujinchou 3, Usagi Drop, and Ro-Kyu-Bu. The rest are extremely mediocre. Only 20-something new shows total (a little low, but summers are always skimpy on the new anime).

>>115309595
Ika Musume, Fate/Zero, Guilty Crown, BokuTomo, Working, and Ben-to are the only anime of note here. Lots and lots of mediocre garbage this season. Less than 30 shows total, which is less than too few for a fall season. The amount of watchable shows in fall 2014 is twice what it was in fall 2011.

>>115309702
5 or 6 might be respectable for a summer or winter season, but anything less than 10 "solid" shows in a fall or spring season is severely lacking. Consider last season. Aldnoah.Zero, Nozaki-kun, Space Dandy 2, Sabagebu, Fate Kaleid Illya, and Hanayamata all set very high standards in their respective genres, and that was just a summer season, which historically has the fewest new shows - and has rarely been a showcase for television channels to showcase their best anime.

Three great shows are still three great shows... but at the end of the week, that's only about 70 minutes of anime. I consider a season good if there are 15 "watchable" shows, and a season is excellent if it has 20+ "watchable" shows. It's an added bonus if many of those "watchable" shows also end up being "great" shows.

If I'm only watching 10 anime in a season because all the other ones are just not watchable, as was the case for much of 2011, I consider that to be an "impoverished" season.
>>
>>115310594

If I never watched "mediocre" anime, then I would never have any fun.

Most "mediocre" anime isn't even bad. It's generally good and enjoyable to watch, but only fails to succeed as a "great" show because of one or another minor reason. Maybe if you weren't such a massive casual, and stepped outside of your comfort zone once in a while, you would know this.

If you honestly can't find anything to watch this season than you probably don't watch anime in the first place.
When you've learned to expand your taste palette beyond the same kind of show by the same company with the same characters then you will learn to appreciate more anime.

Some anime are objectively better than others. There are people who, on average, prefer to watch the better anime. These people have higher standards by definition. Is having high standards a good thing? Not necessarily, but the fact remains that these people most likely have higher standards than you, and it doesn't make them casuals.

And if you think that your argument wasn't a strawman, You either need to work on your reading comprehension, or you need to read up on what strawmans are.

>Some anime are objectively better than others. There are people who, on average, prefer to watch the better anime. These people have higher standards by definition. Is having high standards a good thing? Not necessarily, but the fact remains that these people most likely have higher standards than you, and it doesn't make them casuals.

This is circular reasoning. How the would your hypothetical "elite" anime fans know how to choose which shows to watch if they hadn't tried everything out for themselves? In your world, people with "high" standards only watch "objectively better" anime, and somehow they magically avoid watching anything rating below a 9/10 on MAL because they can magically "just know" which shows to watch, but we all know that it's impossible to properly judge an anime until you've watched it yourself. Reviews are unreliable, and anime quality does not always match the source material quality. Even in 2014, nothing beats first hand experience to be able to judge an anime. Yet, these hypothetical people don't have this.

Explain again why you expect me to buy into your argument that these people have anywhere close to good taste, being, as they are, too casual to bother watching every show in a season.
>>
>>115311827

>>
>>115311943
>repeating everything that the other person said
You have to be 18 or older to browse 4chan.
>>
>>115310921
i actually agree with this.

this is why i'd say that i don't like manga. i only want to read what are good, but where do i get such standards? from other people. so i might as well call myself a manga casual.

meanwhile, i like anime so i'm all for running the risk if a show is watchable or not after a watching couple of episodes, or the entire thing. heck, i do this for VN's too even if i seldom play.
>>
>>115312039
No. You have to watch almost every anime per season (at least the first 3 episodes) in order to talk with any authority about which anime that season is "objectively better" than others airing that season. If you only want to watch 2 shows this season, that's fine. Just don't get ahead of yourself and say that watching any of the other 38 shows airing that season would be a "waste of time."

That's literally all I'm taking issue with. I don't care if you're a casual. Just don't think you are entitled to such opinions if you're going to casual it up every season.
>>
>>115302146
Thinly-veiled recommendation thread? Whatever, I'll bite.

Watch Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken. It's mildly amusing (very mildly), and it's three fucking minutes per episode, so even if you don't like it, you didn't waste any time.
>>
>>115312039
nope. but you need to watch more than 20 before you have the right to say what are mediocre, bad or good yourself.
>>
>>115312154
>and it's three fucking minutes per episode
And yet there will be plenty of casuals this season who can't even make the commitment to a 3 minute show, and will claim that there aren't any good new shows at all.

Agreed about it being a great short anime, though.
>>
>>115303364

>>
>>115312290
You don't know what will be fun or not beforehand, so yes.

If having fun = wasting time for you then you can say before that watching any anime is a waste of time though.
>>
>>115312346
Well according to >>115311827 what's wrong with that situation is you.
>>
>>115311947
Are you intentionally misinterpreting everything in my post?

>How the would your hypothetical "elite" anime fans know how to choose which shows to watch if they hadn't tried everything out for themselves?
I suggest the word 'picky' rather than 'elite'. Elite's connotation is too positive in this context, and I thought I made it quite clear that having high standards isn't always a good thing, as it can prevent you from finding a diamond in the rough in some cases.

> In your world, people with "high" standards only watch "objectively better" anime, and somehow they magically avoid watching anything rating below a 9/10 on MAL
Stop putting words in my mouth. Note the phrase 'on average', I used.

Anyway, what your point more or less comes to is that these people can't know whether they'll like an anime before they watch it for sure. And that is true, although you can make educated guesses based on other people's opinions, source material, people working on it, is it a sequel etc, which tend to vary in accuracy. However, when I say 'watch a show', I mean watch all of it, or at least most of it, not drop it after an episode, and there's nothing stopping my hypothetical people from merely trying out anime. They just don't stick with as many anime as people with lower standards do.
>>
>>115312430
>>
>>115312346

Then you and I (and I suspect quite a few other people in the thread) have been talking about very different things. Most casual anime fans actually do *not* try out even the first episodes of more than a handful of (3-5) anime each season.

By and large, I guarantee you that it is not the case that people who only end up watching 2 shows a season have actually tried out all 20+ premiere episodes, and I a basing my opinion here on experiences on /a/, on other forums I used to read, and on experiences with real life friends who are into anime.

It takes a lot of effort to sit through every single premiere episode at the start of a new season. It's not something you can just do in a single evening. Expending this kind of effort is the opposite of what a casualfag wants to do, and as a result they simply miss out on the majority of worthwhile anime that air each season.

Good shows this season:

Unlimited Blade Works
Kiseijuu
Shingeki no Bahamut
Grisaia no Kajitsu
Cross Ange(Trainwreck of the season)
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
Amagi Brilliant Park

There's also a bunch of other shows that have the potential to be good or are at least enjoyable

Inou Battle
Hitugi no Chaika S2
ShiroBako
Nanatsu no Taizai
Psycho-Pass S2

Now, you might not like some of these shows, but if you don't like any of them, I suggest you find a new hobby.
