I think the keywords there are "long enough." Not every kid plays since birth, how much you wanna bet these kids haven't been playing for more than two years?

Plus improv skills and group harmonizing come along a lot later than just "playing like you're humming"

It's plausible, they look like they could be 5 years old already.

If their parents want to, they start playing music at age 2 and start playing intermediate pieces like Mozart's alla turca a year later.

Of course not every kid is going to be raised like that, but it's much more significant compared to western culture. And obviously the anime is taking liberties.
