Would it be correct to say that each largely successful anime series has a set of "clone" series? If so, what were Cowboy Bebop's clones?

Lets have a Cloned Series General I guess.

You could always google 'anime like cowboy bebop' instead of making a recommendation thread.

And no - I don't think your statement of successful series producing clones is true.

Of course it's true.
This is how the whole anime industry operates.

Baccano's opening was the shit though

It's a misconception that everything popular gets cloned. Haruhi got cloned so many times because it is an easy to design, safe format. All you have to do to make a Haruhi clone is to fill in the following.

Name of do nothing club:
Reason MC lets himself be pushed around:
Type of main heroine (tsundere/kuudere)
Type of main rival heroine (genki/genki)
Type of third heroine (ojousama/lesbian)
Reason fourth heroine is autistic:

And you have yourself a show. Draw the characters well and you have a top seller.

I wouldn't call them clones, but

>Michiko to Hatchin
>Baccano
>Darker than Black

All of these share some similarities with Cowboy Bebop.

No.

Most anime are just reiterations of previous ideas with slight changes. Most of the top selling anime of the last 20 years have very few original ideas in them.

Success in anime depends on execution more than originality. Making your characters attractive and easily recognizable is better than making them unique and complex. What happens in the story is not as important as how you tell it.

Furthermore, the best selling anime are usually adaptations of best selling manga, VNs, or LNs, or else are another title in an existing franchise (like Gundam). You get a few anime that don't fit that pattern (like Evangelion or Bebop, both of which are in the top 10 best selling anime pre-2000 despite being anime original titles not part of an existing franchise, the rest of that list is dominated by Gundam and manga adaptations).

they are only similar in the sense they're both "film noir" style stories/anime.

Let's say you have a successful anime, like the origenal gundam.

Than someone else makes another mech anime in the style 'a clone'

that anime is successful, would that one also have a clone? Are all current mech anime clones of clones of clones of clones?

Go suck a dick and cowboy bebop is mediocre
