Coming very quickly after the announcement that Bandai Entertainment had the rights to Gurren Lagann (previously it was licensed by ADV Films), Bandai announced a volume 1 release date. On 7/8/08, the first volume will be available in both regular editions ($29.98) and special editions ($39.98), which come with a CD. It will be sub only and runs [b]225 minutes[/i], as it contains the first nine episodes.
if thats true then i say smart move
for real? that pretty smart of them.
But it means that GL won't be on cartoon network.
good and bad
Great news. I'm sure all the dub fanatics on ANN and AoD are going to be throwing a hissy fit though.
>come with a CD
Soundtrack CD? I'm guessing the "BEST SOUND", not the OST (which means no LEERON LIKES MY ASSHOLE ASSHOLE).
pics or it didn't happen
We know its subbed only you fucktards. Welcome to last week.
I wish I had some pants, 'cause this news is older than my underwear.
It will get a dub release next year. You can expect it to air on Cartoon Network there.
they can suck on my drill
>first nine episodes
So 3 DVDs rather than Japan's 9? The Viral cover better be one of them.
On two discs you fuckwit.
6 DVDs, over 3 releases.
not this shit again
also what the hell @ 9 episodes on a dvd
what kind of shit quality is that
Guys, it will likely be on 2 discs. Have you never seen 2 discs in a case before?
I bet you retards are the name people who filled up 4 threads with
I may actually get that.
Oh Gawd no.
dub version is coming out like this winter or sum shit
Adult Simon Cover
Big Cover with everyone
Viral wasn't an important character.
LOL! ATLEAST FILL THE ENTIRE DVD9
I just hope they don't do a shit job with the subs. As long as they don't fuck up the subs, this could be an awesome release.
PS BANDAI DON'T FUCK UP THE SUBS LIKE ADV DID
PPS REALLY I MEAN IT PLEASE
It's a double-disk case.
A dubbed version is coming out in 2009, they can wait until then if they want it so badly.
10 bux says it comes with alternate covers
that still means one disk will have 5 episodes on it
5 episodes on one disk = no
Will anyone really care about the dub?
I'm not going to buy it twice, especially not for a dub.
5 episodes is 120 minutes, the length of a standard movie. Movies are on a single DVD.
This is almost as awesome as KAMINACAKE!
Bandai's going to be out a lot of money. We're all going to buy the cheap initial release, so will a lot of other people. When the expensive dub comes around, we'll go "Eh, fuck that shit, I'm not paying for a dub and I already legally own the show."
if you think about, dub + having the shit sit on your shelf is just about the only reason to buy any non-special dvd.
also, why is it that fansubbers are infinitely better at this shit than professionals?
It's not as bad as you think. That's only slightly more than two hours if every show was 25 minutes. DVD's can easily hold that much content without loss.
4-5 is the norm. And really, sub only makes it easier to fit that amount on a disc.
Come on, don't we all want to hear JYB as Kamina?
This is very sexy, do you have a larger image?
Oh, and I am totally requesting that Calvin & Hobbes strip with them trying the Kamina shades on.
Unless the dub release has absolutely amazing shit, like physical objects (not just LOL CHARACTER SKETCHES AND PREVIEWS FOR OTHER SHOWS) then we can complain dubs are more expensive and we don't like paying for dubs. Time will tell.
Why would i pay for different subs
I've heard rumors there's also an alternate special edition version w/ the dub, one that comes with a box (apparently like the original Jap GL dvds) and also includes some other shit (think Haruhi Suzumiya and Luck Shit releases). Don't hold me to all that though, it's just rumors I've heard
Wow, it's like, I always bitched for a release just like this one and now someone's finally doing it. I guess the question is, will I buy it? Probably.
Both the dubbed release will probably have a normal and special edition. So what will be special about the normal edition if it has the dumb stupid extras that only entertain you for 10 minutes? Nothing.
BUY GURREN LAGANN DVDs
Holy shit. TTGL ripped off Calvin and Hobbes.
Final Drill Data Book and Basic Drill Data Book, completely translated.
Um, not really.
Lets say each episode is 24 minutes; 24*5=120 minutes, or 2 hours. Assuming AC3 audio bitrate of 192 kbps (which is typicial for almost any stereo track on a dvd). Using this (because I am lazy):
Gives us a bitrate of 9062 kbps for our dvd. This is actually a fairly high bitrate.
DVD cover 1 = Shota Simon
DVD cover 2 = Adult Simon with Nia
DVD cover 3 = Starlock Simon's Back
I want fucking dual language, I don't wanna pay out the ass for just one.
9 episodes for $30 MSRP (you'll be able to find it cheaper) is rather damn good for a new release.
$29.99 is not "paying out the ass", especially since you'll be able to get it for like $18 online.
Thats two fucking dollars an episode.
You got at least two bucks worth of entertainment out of each episode of GL, didn't you?
Oh yeah and that shit
The comic is a shoop, they were a green color originally. Good shoop.
God damn, 9 episodes sub-only R1 release? Sign me up!
>>AC3 audio bitrate of 192 kbps (which is typicial for almost any stereo track
Stereo? Fuck that shit, I didn't spend an inordinate amount of money on my surround sound system for this bullshit
So you rather have the Japanese model of 2-3 eps per disc but still pay $40.
Yeah. When they want MSRP of $30 for 4 episodes for a new release is when you don't buy, even if you can get it for ~$18.
The rule I and many others go by is if it's way more than 2 dollars an episode, it's not worth it.
Sounds good to me - I'd buy that!
It's called fucking Rightstuf. They have cheap fucking prices and they'll probably have a sale around then for Bandai's release of Lucky Star. They did the same shit for Haruhi Suzumiya so people would actually fucking buy the limited edition.
I like how /a/ always BAWWS about DVD's containing only 4 or so episodes. Then Bandai releases GL with 9 eps per DVD and /a/ BAWS again.
As expected from Anon.
WHERE ARE MY FIGURINES? I demand a fucking life size Kamina pointing at the sky with motion sensors that yell out "YOUR DRILL IS A DRILL THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS!". Shit that would be the best motivator in the world. Also, Row Row Row Your Boat is the best test taking song ever.
Only faggots baww at good release systems.
Right Stuf's normal way of release is amazing.
GL's sound wasn't produced in surround. Even the r2s don't have it. You are just grasping at straws now.
>Bandai's release of Lucky Star
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF I FORGOT ABOUT THAT
I am so buying the LE box.
okay I never even watched GL and I never was going to buy these DVDs, but seriously stereo sucks shit
Who else is excited as fuck that Right Stuf is doing this? They may not release much but damn do they know how to release good shit. That is all.
Let me clarify; that was a "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" of anger, not of anticipation.
YOU suck shit. Most anime doesn't have 5.1 anyways.
Aria, Marimite, and Emma (all season 1's) for $38 a piece. Get my relax on.
One good thing about ADV, they've been remixing both the original and dub in surround sound. Air sounded fucking amazing in surround.
>It will be sub only and runs [b]225 minutes[/i], as it contains the first nine episodes.
HOLY FUCK I WILL GET THIS SHIT
$40 per set for animu is a fucking steal.
Emma season 2 as well. Check it out:
Wait, what? There are Aria Box sets?!
Who cares? I want to see the GL dub.
For a new released animu, anyway. After a few years the price should be more $19.99 or so. As for Emma Season One, it's got an amazing extra.
Right Stuf releases a lot of niche shows in boxset, subbed only.
Miss the memo earlier? It's already up on their website:
I'm still buying it.
You mean this?
>[The Emma Season one DVD boxset] includes a 96-page "Victorian Gazette." Written in the style of an actual Victorian newspaper, including "interviews" with the characters, articles, and period advertisements, this gazette features background information and illustrations, a full glossary, and comments and comics by Kaoru Mori, the author of the Emma manga.
Importing that shit, now!
Guys will the sub be good or will it suck?
It'll be changed from crazy guns to crazy trains.
Oh hell yeah, importin' that, now!
