So, I take it you guys have seen The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Pretty neat show, right?
never heard of it
But Haruhi's supposed to be God, did I understand that correctly?
And this guy, Kyon, he's just some random dude who she falls in love with
nope, but after looking those pics i think it sucks bad probably
It was pretty good.
Not great, but good
Yes, yes we have.
Welcome to 2006.
Sure, why not?
Neo magazine in the UK is doing a feature on this exciting new series this month - I can't wait!
Groundhog day, go!
Is dis sum dancing animu?
>The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
I've never heard of it.
And I supposed he loves her back.
But Kyon's supposed to have this secret love for the paranormal, right?
And Haruhi's like him, except she's open about it...
OMG WTF IS UR DEAL KILL URSELF IF U DONT KNOW HARUHI SUZUMIYA MAN THAT SHIT IS SO OLD. GOD GO AWAY YOU FUCKING NEWFAG.
EY BOYZ! I TINK DA HUMIEZ KNOWS ABOUTS TA BOSS!
I guess what I try to say is...
Haruhi's just a figment of Kyon's imagination?
This is getting interesting. Proceed.
Does anyone other than me think the English title is incredibly awkward?
"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya"....
It doesn't flow smoothly and it has her given name first (NERD RAGE).
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu sounds alot nicer.
Lol newfag calling newfag a newfag.
Shit is overrated and only funny if you know about Japanese culture.
No it doesn't. Fuck your nerd rage.
The anime is good, but the light novels are better
That's about all of it, actually.
Kyon's actually a /a/tard (so ronery) who faps to his image of the Perfect Woman, this being the only way for him to handle the mental pressure of japanese high school life and having NO FRIENDS WHAT SO EVER
I LIKES TAH SHOW YAH GITZ!
To be honest I never finished the anime. Couldn't bring myself to, got boring.
no, i don't watch generic shitty school romance anime thx.
That would mean that Kyon would be god....
But, but it's like calling Tsuiokuhen Samurai X.
you're thinking of Lucky Star.
DEMZ FIGHTAN WURDS HUMIE! COME OVER HERE AND LET ME SHOW YOU MAH CHOPPAH!
Any reason why he couldn't be? This actually struck me (Kyon being the real God) as something of an interesting, and actually plausible twist.
Dakka dakka dakka
MOTK CREATED DA WOLD, SO WHICH ONE OF 'EM IS MORK!?
Hai, this new series will be released on May 28 in Germany
You see, Kyon created Haruhi to become a way to ventilate his frustration about growing up and becoming more and more disillusioned with the world.
Haruhi is basically Kyon's Inner Child made manifest. The fact that she was incarnated as a girl mearly indicates his driving will to function together with her as well as his developing libido.
The others, Espers, Timetravellers and what have you, are merely byproducts by Haruhi, indirectly created by Kyon, and are all interestingly enough attracted to him; even though they show this in different ways.
Yuki, for example, represents Kyon's sense of helplessness against a world he cannot influence. She is so ridiculously overpowered and in control of anything, she reflects his view on the world and himself as a mere youth.
She manifests her desire for him simply by being the first to open up for him, which can be parallelled with the real world giving him friends and a purpose of existance, and she protects him from getting killed.
Mikuru overly represents Kyon's active libido and also his will to have a partner or similar whom he can protect, in a traditional partiarchic sense a man with his wife being a less powerful and independent individual.
Itsuku is Kyon's very personal Kaworu (NGE) who acts as a sort of naive, forbidden attraction to other men; a phase present even in otherwise heterosexual men. Itsuku also represent Kyon's views on the incomptence of authority, as despite his esper power he's generally perceived as nothing but a slightly more gifted human.
Then again, these are all just theories.
So what, is Kyon comatose? I distinctly remember hearing all this a few months ago
Haruhi looked ridiculous with those buns.
all of them are kyon shugo chara?
I like the high ponytail and the low twintales the best.
I think Haruhi is amongst the DEEPest and most brilliant anime that's been made in the past decade and if I was willing to write essays about it like the faggots who wrote essays on GL I'd become a tripfag and you'd all hate me to death. However, I suppose we're mutually spared the inconvenience because I've always operated with an "I'm right and you're wrong and I don't have to explain myself" as far as art goes (Haruhi is the only anime I've ever bestowed the term 'art' upon).
Anyways, the point is, I'm a pretentious ponce about Haruhi, but I fully insist "Kyon is actually God" and other similar theories are completely retarded. You're on the right track, but you're off.
>>Kyon's active libido
HA HA HA.
It's obvious that he wants to fuck Mikuru
He also clearly wants Harhui, even if it's subconcious
the comatose/imaginary friends theory pretty much fits any show.
The beautiful mind of Kyon Suzumiya
I get all of this, but where does Silent Hill fit into all of this? And is his wife really in the trunk of his car?
There are two possible solutions to how Kyon can come up with all these characters without anyone realizing.
a) Kyon does have a few friends, although Mikuru, Yuki and Itsuku are all either completely imaginary or he just imagines random classmates being them at the time. Haruhi doesn't exist, or she's a girl he sees regularly, but can't sum up the courage to talk to. So he imagines them do all these things.
b) Kyon is comatose/mad. <-Bad Ending.
Listen up, deutschfags. You better go out and buy some DVDs.
As an added note on Mikuru, notice that she agrees to EVERYTHING she's made to do, even though she hates doing it.
I think, if anything, this indicate's a distinctive desire by Kyon to have a traditional wife, i.e. someone to boss around.
just bought some DVDr's the other day, actually
I can totally picture Kyon sitting by himself in the "club room", reading a book, looking out the window and giving a sigh every now and then.
maybe in Japan
or maybe her superiors from the future instructed her to do everything it takes to keep haruhi happy
who would believe THAT ridiculous premise?!
So, I take it you work for Bandai.
They're retooling the site for the manga/novel. Probably.
lol the thumbnail of this looks awesome
as if he had an open mouth
You clearly have missed this God concept.
I prefer 'deutchebags'
>>Hai, this new series will be released on May 28 in Germany
Do you think they'll remove her captain's armband?
I'd go for a berliner myself
If you know what I mean...
I think everyone who watches SHnY gets the though in their head that Kyon might be the real god (and Haruhi is her prophet). I know I did. I'm still a believer. I believe in the god Kyon, who, unknowing to himself, is the prime mover; and his avatar, Suzumiya Haruhi, who was revealed to all but herself. I believe in this world, created by John Smith; I believe in Kyonko, the spirit of Kyon, who illuminates us with the reflection of Kyon's light in the night before Season Two.
Side-note, many of the characters in SHnY seem to have a secret from themselves - Haruhi doesn't know she's 'God', Mikuru doesn't know about Legal Mikuru, and Yuki gets into time-travel shenanigans and actually goes through much of the time-line with lost memories or something idummember. And of course Kyon doesn't know he's God.
This analysis leaves out Taniguchi and others who knew Haruhi before Kyon ever met her.
/a/ is tsunderay for haroohee suzumeyah no U2.
Well, it does, that's true. But there's a very easy, if somewhat ghey way to explain them.
Haruhi, having more or less access to Kyon's god-like Powers (as an unknowing proxy, as she's part of Kyon anyway) wormed a trail of memory about herself into them.
Seeing as no one really knows her besides her strange personality and appearance, this isn't entirely impossible since it would require very little memory modifications aside from "She's strange and I only dated her for five minutes."
But EVERYBODY knows about her. She was notorious in middle school. To make it all work, you'd need to have all of North High as a figment of Kyon's imagination.
buy the DVD!
So, who'd win in a duel, Light or Kyon?
Of course Kyon is comatose. He is in the same comatose state along with his friends Ash Ketchum, Naruto Uzumaki, and Ichigo Kurosaki.
Okay, so what about the bizzaro god/esper/alien/time traveler set from the most recent novel? It kind of lends itself to the theory that Kyon simply attracts these kinds of things rather than create them. We know he enjoys his life with the SOS-dan, so why introduce conflict?
The factions that Yuki, Mikuru, and Itsuki represent are just the tip of the iceberg.
ITT people who take cartoons too fucking serious. And that's from someone who's also read the fucking novels.
Since when is discussing something 'taking it too seriously'?
We're just having fun. Care to join?
blame highschool lit class.
since idiots who want something they don't have to feel obligated to think about arose.
so, since day one.
Wait, so are you saying Kyon is God?
Because there's a hella difference between "just imagining things" and "being God"
There is a lot more evidence to this theory in the novels. At one point Kyon mentions that he would like to be in exciting situations but only as a bystander. Thus he gives Haruhi the power to create fun situations that he can do just that, he doesn't actually create her, just gives her powers.
And it comes to Sakaki, the evidence mounts.
Kyon is hardly a bystander in the situations he creates, though.
He's more like a henchman though, or rather he's the "mascot" of the main character who never really does anything, but points out the flaws in its masters' plans.
An intellectual discussion about Haruhi on my /a/ that didn't include Kyonko?
You guys grow up so fast.
Not really, he's the "thinking" man alongside Koizumi in pretty much every situations that Haruhi creates, then Yuki comes and save the day as usual.
Haruhi is the one who basically become a bystander later in the novel.
/r/ing that picture where haruhi gets pulled from portapotty by OMOH
I thought the show was called the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruki?
I DO wonder where Kyonko fits into all this though.
3D girls are pig-dis... wait... fap.... fap.... fapfapfapfapfap
Kipi is shit.
