Okay, what the heck?

Why would they sub the blackboard and left the normal subs out? Is this some kind of idiotic joke or what?
>>
Is that a Spartacus reference?
>>
Get a player that support softsubs, eg. NOT vlc.
>>
Hmm, why are the blackboards hardsubbed while speech is softsubbed? I'm guessing it's some sort of limitation in the MKV subtitle thing?
>>
Softsubs are shit. My XBMC, which uses Mplayer, can't play the mkv correctly so I ended up having to download the avi instead. Fucking subbers
>>
>>11280668

what are you talking about? vlc supports softsubs
>>
>>>11280668
The hell? Why there is no separate softsub file then?

And why the whole thing wasn't hard subbed since the background text are already hardsubs?
>>
>>11280708
POORLY
>>11280707
Don't blame your computer issues on the software. Softsubs are fine.
>>
>>11280721
I never had any problems with VLC subs and I don't even have CCCP, but thaat's just me.
>>
>>11280721
Softsubs are shit and require more processing power and rarely sync up correctly.

Hardcoded is superior.
>>
>>11280752
Someone show him the sub comparison picture, I don't have it.
>>
>>11280774
Enjoy your inferior technology.
>>
>>11280752

VLC's main problem is when subs overlap or TL notes display poorly. If only VLC would fix this goddamn problem, it would be a worthy player.
>>
>>11280805
>No support for styled softsubs.

made it easier to understand.
>>
So in what player I have to play the .mvk file so that it will dispaly the subs properly? As for soft subs, I still can't find the separate subfile (you know, srt, ass etc.) anywhere.
>>
>>11280813
.mkv is an container. It has the subs already in there. Anyway a good player is media player classic which comes with CCCP.
>>
>>11280813
The sub file are in the mkv container, thats why its superior to avi shit. Uninstall vlc, install cccp and reboot. enjoy anime in a new way.
>>
>>11280813
Hahaaha oh wow you don't even know what the matroska container is

Well, first up, stop using VLC, and go get the CCCP. If you're so desperately attached to VLC you can't bear to stop using it, try right clicking on shit somewhere and looking for stream options. Specifically the "show subtitle track" or whatever one.

>>11280697
It's perfectly possible to do those background subtitles using styled softsubs, but apparently they just don't. Shrug?
>>
>>11280787
Enjoy your unsynced subs, shitty codecs and larger file sizes.
>>
>>11280871

Larger file sizes because of higher video and sound quality.
>>
>>11280871
HAHA OH WOW

How big is a sub file you stupid moron?
Have you ever heard about VSFilter?
About your unsynced subs? Throw away your computer from 98.
>>
It's your codecs that suck.

If you have vista you have to uninstall every codec known to man and then install CCCP. However, this won't work and you'll be forced to use VLC player for 90% of your anime because MPC/zplayer/Kmplayer/coremediaplayer wont even detect your subs are there.

Goddamn.
>>
>>11280853
Well, thanks for the answer and the arrogant attidute, dipshit?

I'm not that "attached" to VLC. It's just that I don't see why I should download a whole new player and install some stupid shit for this single episode since it all would work just fine if they'd just made separate soft sub file or just hardsub it like they _usually_ do. I'm all in for elitism, but when it gets as impractical as this I see no worth in it.
>>
>>11280929

Which is fine for every file that's not an ogm and mkv.
>>
>>11280929
You obviously suck at using computers.

I installed CCCP on Vista and it works fine. I suppose if you installed a bunch of dodgy shit first that doesn't remove properly it might be an issue, but same goes for XP.

It's considerably more practical than hardsubbing and you'd probably just end up having more retarded issues if it were a separate sub file when using VLC.

CCCP with media player classic for softsubs

VLC for when Gom will not play a file format (quicktime for example)
>>
>>11281045

>>
>>11280939
The Matroska container is fucking awesome and anyone who demands hardsubbed AVIs needs to get the fuck out of the nineties already. Seriously, you guys are so far behind the times it's not even funny. Did you complain that you couldn't run XP on your old PII as well or something?
>>
ZOOM or GOM player gogogog
>>
>>11281050
Stop fucking anon around, you should use MPC for everything, cause the CCCP pack was made for everything.
>>
>>11281078
Gom has far more features. You can shift the audio forward or backwards with a hotkey; adjust brightness, contrast, gamma, and saturation with a hotkey; zoom in or out with a hotkey; slowdown or speedup playback with a hotkey; skip ahead one frame at a time with a hotkey; edit sub files and do much more on top of that.
>>
>>11281056
Personally, I'd prefer H.264 hardsubs in an MP4, if at all possible. MKV is a close second, since I can convert the container pretty easily without having to re-encode the video.
>>
>>11281056
There's no reason to move beyond AVI. The new containers/formats dont look any better and usually take up more space since they're less efficient.
>>
I like hard subbed divx files the best myself. The video quality is fine for anime, the subs will obviously always draw as they are suppost to, and the file size is smaller than with other formats.
>>
>>11281198
No they are not, look at shugo chara dvdrips, 708x472, under 100MB, you can't do that with a xvid encoded avi.
>>

I don't know where you get this info? This isn't fucking poetry, you know. No commercial release ever uses italics or other fancy tricks execpt bolding. Why? Because it's fucking retarded and useless to use it in subtitles.
>>
GOM is the best player hands down. It's just that it doesnt work for some soft subs for some reason so I use MPC for those.

VLC sucks cocks
>>
I don't really see why Anon is arguing softsubs vs. hardsubs here. Subs are subs, right?

Fail codecs and players are entirely another matter. They often go hand-in-hand with hardsubs, yes, but there's nothing intrinsically wrong with hardsubs themselves to begin with, is there?

Xbox: Remote control, can run for days without any heat issues, easy to setup just set up wifi and hook up the cables and you're done, can play games, etc.

And the reason why CCCP is recommended is that fansubbers are taking advantage of certain tech that VLC sucks at to get better effects/quality, which are controversial/subjective?
>>
>>11281905
120 fps with dropframes is a common hack to stuff VFR in avi, as not much anime is entirely 23.976 FPS. ZSZS is about 90% 29.97 FPS, 5% 23.976 FPS, and 5% other things.
>>
>>11282797
Well he was talking about a h264, and I see no reason to break the 24fps barrier.
>>
>>11282821
Lowering the frame rate from what it was animated at is a very bad idea as it kills the quality without reducing the size very much. There is no reason for 120 FPS h264, though -- that means that it was either h264 in avi (retarded) or the encoder was too stupid to figure out how to use mkv/mp4's VFR.
>>
>>11282873
Sorry I was in a bit of a rage and didn't read correctly, 29.97 is still okay, but I haven't seen anyone encode h264 higher than that, I heard raws are encoded in 120fps cause its easier to add hardsubs or something.
>>
>>11282921
~120fps is used because it converts to ~30fps or ~24fps easily.
