ITT:
We discuss why Adult Swim fans are BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWing over their lack of animu
Pic definately related
>>
They are?
>>
I didn't watch their animu anyway
>>
>>10289131
ADULT SWIM MADE THEIR OWN ANIMU?
>>
wut?
>>
I thought Adult Swim didn't give a shit about anime. If it were up to them they'd just show Family Guy reruns all night; that seems to get better ratings, anyway.
>>
>>10289182
>I thought Adult Swim didn't give a shit about anime.
Thus, the BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWing
Let's see...they removed anime off the weekday lineup, they give all their premeires shit slots (lol @ Code Geass @ 1:30am), and they don't advertise their anime.
>>
Cartoon Network has been a shithole for a long time.

They need to learn that japanese animation has a place in earlier timeslots, not fucking midnight for bleach.
>>
I didn't know they dropped it but this is a good thing.
>>
>>10289226
HOW ABOUT NOT. WE DONT NEED MORE WEEABOOS. FUCKING CHRIST /a/ IS GAIA NOW.
>>
Can we discuss all things Cartoon Network?

I'm still holding out hope for a Toonami/Adult Swim airing of Gurren-Lagann. Come on, ADV, push it!
>>
adult swim always goes back and forth on this junk. I remember back when they were showing Candidate for Goddess...

But anyway, the shows the choose to air are always hit or miss. They'd do well to pick the fuckwin series. I mean really, why haven't they shown Berserk?
>>
>>10289269
>>
>>10289115
Explain? Did Adult Swim cancel all their anime or something?
>>
>>10289115
That's because the execs don't know what the fuck they're doing.

Let's run a series out of order.
Let's run shows at inconsistent times.
Let's censor content.
MORE COMMERICALS.
>>
>>10289262
Hey, some of those weeaboos are our future fansubbers. A small sacrifice.
>>
>>10289269
oh fuck no.
>>
Toonami did anime right

Best lineup ever, it had Reboot (not anime but still fuckwin) some giant robot shit that I cant recall, sailor moon, hamptaro.
I didnt even know what anime was back then
>>
>>10289207
That was fucking stupid.

Yeah, they might as well not show it.
>>
>>10289323
Why not?
>>
I heard that Death Note, a new anime was going to be shown on Abc2 in april, could be worth watching... hope that helps. (Oh, I'm talking about Australia)
>>
>>10289295
Yet the execs know what they're doing with Toonami...and look at what they're bringing in
>>
>>10289283

A month or so back, AS decided to try an ALL ANIME Saturday lineup.

Considering it was mostly a ton of repeats, to the shock of everybody it bombed, horribly.

After that they near completely stripped out anime from their lineup.

Their anime premieres now are just 12:30-1:00-1:30, for Bleach, Death Note and Blood+.

Blood+ is ending soon and being replaced by Geass, but there's no other new anime announed so they might be down to just two shows after Death Note ends.
>>
Adult Swim hasn't made a good original for a long time.

They also bitch that their anime gets shitty ratings so they decide to remedy that by putting it on even later. Lol fucktards.
>>
>>10289323
Fucking newfag, l2sage
>>
Japanese cartoons need to stay in Japan.

We need good, wholesome American cartoons showing on our televisions.

Support our own industries, not those damn japs.
>>
>>10289333
failfag doesn't know what Robotech is.
>>
>>10289270
Of all anime, why name the most implausable? Yes, I'm sure a gorefest with a rape ending would fly really well on a children's network.
>>
There's always Ani-Monday.
They did have Macross Plus some time back.
>>
It would be nice if they could keep a consistent time with a show, too. Part of keeping viewers for a longer running show are getting them used to the same time slot. Adult Swim switches their schedule around CONSTANTLY, so you never know when your show will be on.
>>
>>10289270
because they can't show rape on TV obviously
they even discussed this
I don't see why they haven't shown Hellsing. They've gotten every vampire anime BUT Hellsing, which is the only good one!
>>
>>10289295
MORE SHITTY SHOWS LIKE SQUIDBILLIES AND TOM GOES TO THE MAYOR! ITS GETTING US SHIT RATINGS BUT THE PEOPLE ON THE WEBSITE THINK IT FUNNIE AND DEEP
>>
weekday lineup is actually tolerable to have on in the backround now
still cspan is easier to snooze to when it's not election shit
>>
>>10289387
Robotech was fucking shit compared to the original
>>
>>10289379

You have to go back in time to the mid 90s because that was when American animation peaked before it went down the crapper.
>>
anyone have any idea how well ani-monday is doing for ratings?
I bet it's a thousand times better.
>>
>>10289387
It could be that or Big O
>>
>>10289295

Adult Swim doesn't censor. Well, maybe nipples and "fuck".
>>
>>10289427 Robotech was fucking shit compared to the original

In 1985, nobody gave a fuck.
>>
If they had subs instead of dubs maybe people would actually watch stuff.
>>
>>10289419
I've been going to the ASMB for 4 years. Trust me, they think that shit sucks too.
And they complain about the lack of anime plenty too.
>>
>>10289379
GTFO
>>
Can't they show more animu on Sci-Fi or IFC than they do now? AS is not the monopoly of licensed anime.
>>
>>10289413
Even though it's on a cable station YOU HAVE TO FUCKING PAY FOR
>>
>>10289413
Because the S&P standards of CN really limit what bring in, even at late night. Thus, no Black Lagoon, Hellsing, Beserk, and all the anime that they really want to see.

Both Sci-Fi, IFC, and Spike can virtually air their anime uncut because the S&P standards that exist for a CHILDREN'S CARTOON NETWORK aren't there.
>>
>>10289463
That would be an abysmal business decision.
>>
>>10289454
No. I must admit, it was better than the average westernpigdisgusting cartoon.
>>
>>10289462

Sci-Fi's anime seems limited to Manga Entertainment shows.
>>
>>10289149
Actually Big O (at least season 2) was entirely funded and managed by CN.
>>
I'd watch Adult Swim again if they just ran Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star forever. Shit was good background noise in the day.
>>
>>10289402
LifeTime shows rape all the time.
>>
I don't want to see stupidly dubbed anime on television. I'd rather they made their own stuff then spending money buying anime.
>>
>>10289473
In the case, god bless Canada. We get Black Lagoon in all it's four letter glory.
>>
>>10289473
Adult Swim DOES NOT follow the same rules as Cartoon Network. They are officially a differant network.
They can show as much violence as they like. They seriously can and have. Only sex and swears is a problem.
>>
Because most of them are not exactly internet-resource savvy.

But don't worry--when Elevenland passes their laws, you'll all soon be bawwwwing with them.

For the time until pirates find another way past the law, anyway.
>>
>>10289369
korgoth of barbaria. pilot shown. not picked up.
>>
dub anime = auto fail. Just show your shitty comedy shows and let us download our anime.
>>
>>10289487
And didn't Toonami partly do IGPX?
>>
>>10289486
If that's the case, Sci-Fi better air Dead Leaves at some point. I'd watch that just to see how much they could even show of that.
>>
If I was Adult Swim, I would just stop airing anime. It's not an audience they need in the first place. The viewer base is split in two. But by focusing on comedy they would get higher ratings without wasting money on licenses that don't pan out.
>>
>>10289517
Shit, even the Canadians pwns Americans when it comes to uncut anime.
While we got the shit version of Gundam SEED, Canada got both SEED and SEED Destiny, both uncut and without the "Disco Guns."
>>
nobody's watching the anime they put on

even when they premiere it

anime isn't working and they've tried plenty, so it's getting removed.
>>
>>10289491
Not graphically
Berserk definitely crosses the line
>>
>>10289545
Yep it was actually commissioned by CN and just like Big O was meant for the US and with English as it's first language.
>>
How to make an Adult Swim show:
1) have a grand budget of $5
2) air the show everyday until people like it
3) ???
4) PROFIT
>>
We need a subbed channel. If it was pay for like HBO or something I bet a bunch of people would throw out $10 a month or whatever for it.
>>
>>10289545
IGPX was a joint project, yeah. Hence it looks a lot prettier than you'd expect from Japanese studio alone (LOL American budgets).
>>
>>10289527
another idiot doesnt understand what the new laws actually do. they disconnect the internet services of people they catch. they arent going to be able to catch the people recording the show and encrypted ftp'ing the raws to the subbers out of the country.
>>
>>10289562
just as planned
>>
>>10289568
Amerikkka.
>>
/co/
>>
>>10289524
Are you sure? Last I heard they just get listed seperately for ratings.
>>
>>10289572
The I-Channel aka AZN aka discontinued had some subbed anime, I don't remember what. Very rare indeed.
>>
>>10289601
/jp/
>>
>>10289559
Every version of SEED is shit. Curse words don't save it.
>>
>>10289491
LOL, but it's mostly off season or really, really selective very worksafe shots.

Plus, I though Sci-Fi can't show nudity or explict violence either since it's a PG13-like channel....
>>
ADULT SWIM: BRIGING YOU QUALITY ANIME PEOPLE FINISHED WATCHING 3 YEARS AGO.

That's their problem.
>>
>>10289622
/co/
>>
>>10289550
They did.
>>
>>10289583
Actually I would love to see an American company sponsor an Anime just for the budget alone. The only one I can think of is Microsoft just because it would actually be a good idea for them considering how terrible the 360 is doing overseas. I'd watch it just for the animation, considering when Microsoft spends money it doesn't joke around.
>>
>>10289628
True, Macross-Plus was censored heavily in the nude scenes. A lot of white out (but not whole scenes)
>>
>Adult Swim fans are BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWing over their lack of animu
anime are for kiddies. end of thread.
>>
>>10289583
Too bad it was shit though...
>>
>>10289665

I don't even remember Macross Plus *having* nude scenes.

I mean really, was it just some moments during the Sharon concert or something?
>>
I doubt they would have to add much to an anime's budget in order to have it subbed as it's produced. They should air it on the same date in all countries.
>>
>>10289655
doesn't a single episode of spongebob has a bigger budget than some animus?
>>
>>10289689
I think it was some shower scenes in the OVA, but in the movie version, there was a scene of Isamu and that blond chick fucking.
>>
>>10289672
I liked it, plus they got away with some cussing(at like, 9:00 PM on CN), that was probably one of the reasons it got pushed into a later time slot at the end of the series.
>>
>>10289689
Nude scene may have been too strong a word; but there definitely was white out in the Sci-Fi airing. Showing titties qualifies for censoring.

AS's primary audience is 20somethings who ejaculate over things that are either indie or old school. AS should air some old school 80's animu.
>>
>>10289713
Yup.
>>
>>10289747
THEY'RE BOTH GAY
>>
>>10289702
Ummmm...it's not that simple.
>>
>>10289747
And not at 5:30AM
>>
i would care more if they played any anime that didn't suck
>>
>>10289747
They aired Astro Boy, does that count?
>>
>>10289799
yeah, at 5 in the fucking morning
>>
>>10289797
That narrows it down too much...
>>
>>10289713
Not entirely on topic, but yea. You could almost say the AS in-house cartoons have even smaller budgets than Japanese studios when compared side by side.

>>10289747
Also, congrats on breaking what looks like 80+ non-image posts in /a/
>>
>>10289812
Shit...forgot about that.
>>10289797
Does Gurren-Lagann count?
>>
Instead of Adult Swim airing more anime, Sony needs to get off their asses and give the US Animax.
>>
>>10289799
Too old.
>>
>>10289799
and gigantor.
>>
>>10289824
>Does Gurren-Lagann count?

wait, what?
>>
>>10289840
and Voltron
>>
>>10289774
someone explain why they can't do this. they have simultaneous releases of movies and vidya gaems, why can't they do it with animu?
>>
>>10289824
Not to troll, but the AS forum has a Gurren Lagann petition thread. In all sense, GL is by definition what AS should have in its lineup, bad, good, whatever. Action is action.
>>
>>10289846
the japanese would never agree to it. the japs are some of the most insular people on the planet. it's hard enough trying to license anime for western use as it is at times
>>
>>10289747
Oh, just say it! It's target demographic are hipsters.
>>
there is tons of older anime that AS could put on
why they don't do it I'll never know
>>
>>10289864
OP here, also a member of said forums (I came on when they were actually good)
>Haven't seen it
>>
>>10289869
Just point a battle ship canon at their harbor...works every time.
>>
>>10289846
>>10289869
Something along to those lines, yeah. Licensing is a legal and economic matter. I doubt foreign companies would invest in a show that hasn't aired, much less produced, regardless of fan support _inside the country_.

Two points to draw from that:
-Haruhi (no trolling) is probably the most recent and best example of how international support brought about its licensing, if only faster and with better reception.
-Afro Samurai and IGPX were collaborative efforts on both sides of the Pacific, and IMO that turned out pretty damn well. I'd like to see more of this, if only because, again, American budgets.
>>
>>10289901
That explains why Futurama and Family Guy reruns remained popular. I like Futurama but jesus I can't even imagine how many times they ran through the entire series.
>>
>>10289901
>Oh, just say it! It's target demographic are hipsters.

Actually its target demographic is mostly socially inept nerds, though usually the louder more obnoxious type. Hipsters have better things to do then stay up hours every night watching Family Guy and whatever bullshit CN is producing at the moment since generally speaking they actually manage to have friends/girlfriends/boyfriends.
>>
>>10289846
Games and movies run off big budgets. It's still rare for this to happen for anything but the biggest of names.
>>
>>10289958
because you can turn on the channel any day of the week and see an episode and know what's going on. You miss one episode of any anime (well, most anyway) and your pretty fucked.
>>
>>10289911
....six pages back in the suggestion forum. This is why I don't hang out there.
>>
>>10289966
Then why doesn't anime thrive there?

>>10289966
I understand that but the thing is that CN targets socially inept weaboos. AS just whores out to mainly to hipsters who are hung over the night before.
>>
>>10289572
Well ther is the "on demand" Anime network
www.theanimenetwork.com
>>
GL is going to get dubbed and edited for american TV
There ain't no way episode 6 is going to make it without huge cuts/edits to many of its scenes.

I don't mind dubbs unless I had already seen the show with subs. Then it just becomes painful to listen to.
>>
>>10290063
"Thrived"
Whether we (whoever that may be) like it or not, the comedy lineup is the crutch to Saturday's night. As someone pointed out, an all anime night bombed and forced AS to go back to a mix.
Also, we, probably saw whatever anime AS is airing, praised it, trashed it, and spat it back out when we see it dubbbed. Such is the predicament of convincing us to watch a show again, dubbed, and with whatever editing had to be done to fit it to American late night television.
>>
>>10290115
ep6 was already censored from the dvd version
>>
>>10290094
My friend, who I know for sure has seen less anime than I have in the past season (and this was a pretty dry season), said he keeps up with Death Note on AS. Heck, we even watched an episode just to poke fun at it. If AS can capture even a small portion of the hipsters who watch the earlier comedy lineup, then they're successful. I'm just happy he's watching Death Note.
>>
>>10290115
What >>10290184 said. It'd probably just be easier to air the TV version than edit out the DVD version.
>>
Wait, why do we care?

I just realized I haven't watched CN for like 4 years. I HOPE THIS SHIT FAILS. DEATH TO THE NA ANIME MARKET.
>>
>>10290214
That's good to know. But it seems to me that AS cares less about the anime fans, considering that they were the first wave of people to watch it when AS was starting out. Backstabbers.
>>
>>10290278
Victims of commercialization. Us first-wave remember when there were Girls Gone Wild was a commercial late at night. Or something like that. Then AS got recognition, started getting better offers and money, and bigger budgets. Bigger budgets eventually lead to lowest common denominator audiences. So I see it.
>>
>>10290330
And the synthesizer voice-over when each show was starting. I remember them well.
>>
>>10290278
[as] started backstabbing with the finale of Eureka seveN and April Fools, IMO
>>
>>10290278
It really got bad when they fucked over Eureka seveN, plus when they fuck things up for April Fools
>>
>>10290394
I wouldn't know, I gave up AS way before I ever heard Johnny Yong Bosch's awfully dubbed Renton.
>>
>>10289427
Pfft, like you've ever watched it.

99% of newfag Macross "fans" on /a/ have never actually seen it, it's just one of those series /a/ pretends to like because it's "classic," like Getter Robo and Captain Harlock.
>>
>>10290428
I wouldn't know, I gave up AS way before I ever heard Johnny Yong Bosch's awfully dubbed Renton.
>>
>>10290450
They badly edited the ending, so much that [as] called a log error and aired the episode uncut the next week
>>
>>10290428
Nothing like raging during April Fool's premiere episodes. =)
>>
Why does anyone give a shit about Adult Swim's anime, anyway?

lol Death Note? Like anyone on the internet hasn't already seen it. And shit like Evangelion is edited all to hell. They play it at like 1AM and it's still edited? lol america
>>
Anyone else remember when they were supposed to air the last episode of Big O, only it being a replay? RAAAAAAAGEEEEE!
>>
>>10290540
That's the idea, isn't it? By the time licensing and dub processing is over, the target audience either has seen it or bought it. That just leaves the ever faithful to watch it again, or convince their comedy friends to stay up past 12:30.
>>
>>10290567
Such a bizarre opening....Liked the ED.
>>
>>10290607
But you do forget there are casual TV Viewers who may just be staying up late or just in from having a life who just turn on the TV see [AS] is on and watch it because they may as well.
>>
>>10290677
You mean Adult Swim is meant for adults?
>>
>>10290711
In short Mr Oreos, yes.
Adult Swim is not 4 chan's personal cum-dumpster.

>>10290677

Wasn't AS complaining about licensing fees for animu anyway? I'm surprised they managed to get Death Note and Code Geass, since they seem pretty high profile (lulz)

While I don't get my anime from AS, I do watch it if it's on and there's nothing else on TV. Death Note's fun to watch in English and I'm probably one of the few people who actually like the dub. Bleach is Bleach. Code Geass is something I'd watch just for the hell of it being in English, unless the dub's terrible (BOSSSSSSSCH)

The problem is, AS has nothing but fucking reruns. Look at Inuyasha. Why is that shit still on the air?
>>
BAWWW
>>
Adult swim sucks.

>>10290115
