So, Adult Swim says they're playing less anime during the week now because the rating were down a lot.
Could it be that they were playing shitty, generic anime and need to license some better stuff?
Lucky Star is their only hope.
Stop killing the industry and buy more naruto and bleach dubbed DVDs. Won't someone think of the children?
No. Say goodbye to anime in Adult Swim.
>Lucky Star is their only hope.
If im going to stay up all night to watch a dub of something i can see on the internet, i at least want to be rewarded with tits and gore. Also, not shonen would be fine too.
I'd like to see the reaction if Adult Swim actually aired Lucky Star.
Makoto would draw some huge ratings
Say goodbye to Adult Swim ever being awesome in general. They fucking canceled Korgoth.
They should be shot for this.
But they are going to start airing Samurai Jack, of all things.
Oh well. I haven't watched anime on AS since the days when Cowboy Bebop and Trigun were back to back.
I'm suprised Death Note isn't going to well. It doesn't make sense.
heard they were getting code geass whenever
Last time I watched Cartoon Network was when they originally aired Eureka Seven.
yes to both
I think it has to do more with the deluge of reruns, coupled with the general slowdown of cable viewership in general.
It's funny they would show less anime due to ratings. Because, their comedy's ratings have fallen off a fuckin building. They need to do something to stop ALL their ratings from declining, not just anime. That something might be STOP SHOWING THESE FUCKING SHITTY ASS SHOWS LIKE SQUIDBILLIES, AND MAKE MORE SHIT LIKE KORGOTH, GODDAMN WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKING IDIOTS.
Death note is doing crummy because Adult swim uses all of their ad budget on garbage like tim and eric.
No it means anime is dead in america. The American market is already on life support and will die soon. Less fans will be coming in and only the truly die hard will stay on.
People will stop subbing stuff and it will practically go back to the days of unsubbed VHS.
Production for Korgoth was canceled because they didn't have the money.
And yet they have plenty of money for garbage like Tim and Eric, the worst piece of shit on TV.
Well I did like TGTTM. But that show was shit.
I dunno, the rerun thing seems to be everywhere. They even brought back Home Movies and Birdman (the latter of which I welcome). I gotta wonder if they're having some sort of financial problems.
Jesus, please no. Just put on AMD and let that be the extent of the moe slice-of-life stupidness.
I doubt people will stop fansubbing. Fansubbing is only growing larger and larger.
>And yet they have plenty of money for garbage like Tim and Eric, the worst piece of shit on TV.
Now now, that Renegade Angel show is much worse
dubs are bad mmm'kay
yes avoid like the plague
Since Aqua Teen was so successful, they apparently think anything they slap together and put on the air for fifteen minutes will do awesomely.
I doubt it is dead, but hopefully it'll prompt a more diverse type of titles to be licensed, or at least, less marketable-like-DBZ! shows.
SHOCK, THE FOURTEENTH BILLION REPEAT OF INUYASHA GETS SHITTY RATINGS.
not really they have most of the decent dubs
Agreed, Cn has really went down the shithole these past few years, cancelling Samurai Jack and Danger Bros, focusing more on cheap flash based show(though Metalocolpse is exempt)showing more anime Naruto(though it isn't so bad but the dub is fucking terrible) and not superior shows like blue gender or gundam. Shit they where pretty close to having a good dose of late night young adult programing and they pissed it away.
GL WILL SAVE ADULST SWIM
I think it's the fact that anime in general is going down. Anime was nothing more than a trend for America. Also, it's because of Americans and their taste. Americans like comedy than anything else because it's simple and don't require them to think.
Seriously, any one remember Titan AE? Now that was a great cartoon, but oh and behold the cartoon tanked and a masterpiece was lost in the fury of shitty comedy movies such as Legally Blonde.
at least they're still showing SAC and Fullmetal Alchemist on Fridays. I'm forcing myself to leave the television on for those two shows and nothing else. I really don't want adult swim to become [stoner comedy central] 100%.
I can only hope that a downshift in anime on TV will result in a generally more 20-something crowd at anime cons instead of 13 year olds dropped off by their parents using it as a daycare.
Damnit. Forgot pic.
Are you talking about Venture Brothers? The third season is still in production, they didn't cancel it. l2research
On a side note, does anonymous enjoy the Venture Brother?
Leaving your tv on doesnt do shit for ratings.
I dunno, Titan AE wasn't THAT good. It's like saying that Pirates of Darkwater was indicative of american media tastes.
That said, I remember when Adult Swim started doing their "subtitle" bumpers, and at the time, series like Slayers were just finally getting stocked regularly in subtitle versions at Suncoast and the like.
Let's just call this the Anime Bubble, which will pop and then later resume at a more sustainable pace.
Those 13 year olds are the future for anime. lay off them will ya.
metalocalypse is a much better show
There are people who don't like the Venture Brothers?
That's fine, can there be less of them? Or at least less of them dropped off at the Cons?
Right now. Most people who are fansubbing are college students who will eventually go on to get lives. Since the death of the US market will stop initiating new fans, and less people will become subbers.
With less subbers means less accessible shows which means less fans and more people moving on. It's a cycle effect, it won't happen over night, but there will be a noticeable decrease in the next few years and within the next 10-15 anime will be back where it was around 1995.
Did not know that, I haven't seen it in a while so I assmued the worst. Still, on a serious note, I think Cn showing GL would be a start on getting back to their former glory, the other would be to stop sucking Seth Greens cock.
There will be. But there will be less of everyone else later, including subbers. Enjoy the death of the your hobby.
Yeah, people with taste.
Fansubbing is slowing down a bit.
It doesn't help that subbers are ultra-sensitive to criticism from faggots.
But still, I call for death to the American anime market.
Venture Brothers is the best thing AS ever produced.
I've been watching Adult Swim regularly since the days when they actually had adults swimming in the ads.
I dunno, with the renewed interest in east asia as an economic center (now that, for example, Japan has something akin to a growing GDP), i can see weeabooness continuing
I don't think it's going to die completely. It'll probably just force the surviving companies to merge and rethink the way they go about doing their shit, or something.
There is a rumor that they have Gurren Lagann and are gonna show it in a couple months.
This is because they have a series they're not telling us about.
What- the- fuck-
Go kill yourself.
Not to sure on that, those who enjoy fansubbing would most likely continue to do it untill real life obligations made it impossible and even then they may pick up again to keep their Japanese/editing in good shape.
The biggest problem with anime today is that Funimation is monopolizing alot of the good titles and are literally stealing titles out from under other comapnies like Geneon (RIP) and ADV. At least Media Blasters and VIZ are holding their own for now.
Funimation's poor quality dubbing is what has and is turning alot of people to fansubs. If Funimation and other companies would come out with some desent dubbs then most of the problems would be solved.
By regularly I don't mean nightly, but at least once weekly.
Best original shows: Space Ghost (DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THIS??? ;_;), Harvey Birdman, Robot Chicken, Moral Orel, Metalocolypse, Venture Brothers, and ATHF isn't really that bad.
Still maintain that VB is the fucking best. And it's better than Family Guy and Futurama combined.
Doubt it. I don't know of any fansubbers who have been active for more than a few years.
Now I know you're insane. I'm willing to concede that people like VB. But fuck, no way its better than Futurama.
Also, hay, AS, plz bring back SG:C2C and the Brak Show
Squidbillies is already.
Tim and Eric though, fuck those guys.
They REALLY need to finish Perfect Hair Forever.
Damn, I'm not on the ball tonight.
AS probably regrets giving up rights to futurama, pulled in shitload of ratings.
I thought Venture Brothers was ok but not great due to it's randomness and over the top gags. Then season two came and actually tried to have a story some what... Fuck that shit.
I do lub me sum GitS
Thier best show was cowboy bebop. They need to put on edgier shit like black lagoon and berserk.
Yeah, I think it was a bad move on their part.
This is the best show they ever did.
They will never be able to top it, ever.
Hit the nailon the head right there, it's shitty quality dubs and subs that are driving people to fansubs. Hell, an episode of hot series airs in Japan and it isn't log before we get a RAW on the web. A couple hours later we get a rough sub. A few hours more and we get an enhanced sub with op/ed translations, better translaion and fonts that change style and color depending on who is speaking.
IN contrast of being lucky to get the sub in a readable color in a big company release.
If CN could actually spend a decent amount of dough advertising their shit, people might actually know when or whats on and not ever trying to change.
How about they put sumthin that's remotely cool now. Anime-wise, FMA and Big O(personally), FLCL and all that shit is perfectly awesome and fine...
But damn Speed Grapher would be amazing on AS, dontcha think. After Code Geass starts airing, it might not help, I dunno...
It'll be Dragonaut. JUST YOU WAIT.
It'd be great if they re-ran Bebop and put GitS on at a time that wasn't bad.
Also, get Noein from SciFi or whatever, and run some Ergo Proxy
No it'll be like Haunted Junction or some shit
(don't get me wrong, I like Haunted Junction, but...)
They actually mentioned Berserk in a bump, saying they just can't because they'd have to censor it to hell.
But at least they thought of it.
I want some fucking Hellsing, original anime is alright. I don't understand why they don't do it.
Actually I've predicted them getting a lot of shows. I predicted Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Trinity Blood, Blood+, and Bleach, but I guess any idiot could.
A long time ago they accidentally leaked they were getting GunXSword, but they were still reconsidering at the time. Possible that's the one they're not mentioning, although that would be a huge letdown.
>Could it be that they were playing shitty, generic anime and need to license some better stuff?
Oh fucking please, if Adult Swim puts anything on, /a/ will hate it automatically "Oh, yeah, that was shit, I saw that a year ago, whatever, no I never liked that". If they aired Kaiji I bet /a/ would turn its back "Oh yeah, that faggot is too moe, Akagi was better, he didn't cry every 2 minutes"
hellsing = censoring
Geneon mentioned that they wanted/were in talks to get Gun x Sword to be on Adult Swim several times.
I guess it just didn't happen.
Not the anime. It wasn't that bloody. They've already shown worse.
Berserk would be censored for rape, obviously.
Yeah, paying a cable bill and sitting through commercials while enjoying censored material. WHERE DO I SIGN UP?
The dub for Noein is so terrible.
I listened to it out of morbid curiosity one day. Yuu's voice is fuck-awful.
Yeah, I don't think so, for some reason. The typical fansub viewer is quite different from the typical dub viewer. I always saw these groups as rather distinct from one another and can name more than a handful of people I know who actually LIKE what Funimation puts out there. Well, so far as a couple years ago. Have things changed much since then?
The proliferation of the Internet definitely has a measurable effect, but I don't honestly think its as significant as you'd think.
By the way I seriously doubt GL would be on AS
If anything, its going to be Darker than BLACK
Yeh, but the GitS dub is also really inferior.
Solution, start showing some fucking subs, I guess.
>need to license some better stuff
Subs will NEVER work on AS. The demographic CN panders too would rather have dubs.
You know, if Adult Swim would show some actually adult anime such as say... Bible Black. The ratings would go way up.
The only reason to watch Adult Swim is because of Tim and Eric. They make the only quality shows that have been on Adult Swim.
Or it can be the recession and the increasing cost of quality of life that hurting them. Anime is already an expensive hobby as it is.
Besides, most people who buy the DVD don't care what kinda of dubs are there because they don't care for them.
The problem is that there's not enough advertising for it OUTSIDE of the anime fandom.
But CN's problem is that they changed the formula of what made animu popular on their channel, the weekday Toonami block, that helped Adult Swim to become a hit. Pushing back anime is only going to make the problems worse, on top that they have been hosting pretty mediocre animu lately outside of Death Note, which is not the type of animu that most people would get into because of the talking.
That was years ago i bet. I mean they put some honestly bad shit thats worse in their American cartoons and its not censored. All they need to worry about is tits and vagoos.
Come over here so I can kill you.
And thus it is doomed.
LOL, can't because they don't have the license for it and it will ruin their reputation.
>Anime is already an expensive hobby as it is.
Funniest thing i've read all night.
Troll troll is troll.
Solution would be to make your dubs sound fucking natural.
I don't know why that's so fucking hard.
Nope, it wasn't very long ago they mentioned not being able to do Berserk. It *does* have explicit rape after all.
Maybe a year ago I guess. I know it was after they earned the TV-MA rating.
Well, for people who actually buy their shit.
It WOULD be funny though.
Just have them do all the Bible Black episodes, subbed, back to back on one night, starting at 12.
People who would miss it would go "Wait, they showed WHAT?"
>>Yeh, but the GitS dub is also really inferior.
Kinda hard when you're trying to match pacing and lipflaps which was made for to be in Japanese.
I have spent hundreds on anime/manga in the past 6 months because I am a follower of onsokumaru and I follow rule #2
Apparently Sci-Fi can promote the fuck out of their anime block, but [as] can't since CN and [as] are two different channels...
Scifi has a lot of money.
Adult Swim is owned by CN, but they don't actually get money from them. It's independent.
>Kinda hard when you're trying to match pacing and lipflaps which was made for to be in Japanese.
The problem is not that they're trying to match the lipflaps. That's easy. The problem is that they're trying to preserve the original sound. They want it to have the same tone as the Japanese version, but that's just not fucking possible when you switch languages. Make your dialogue flow naturally in ENGLISH. SOUNDING JAPANESE should be an afterthought.
I cringe every time I hear an American try to pronounce a Japanese word in Japanese phonetics.
That also means that Sci-Fi can promote their anime block outside of the channel...while [as] can't, and that's one of the reasons why they can't bring in new viewers.
Dude. No. The GitS voice actors might be perfectly okay, but the dub for SAC is just bad.
Sounded more like
>>I cringe every time I hear an American try to pronounce a Japanese word in Japanese phonetics.
Because, that's how it supposed to be pronounced if it is a Japanese word, Cirno. In fact, they mispronounce it most of the time pissed me off with unnecessary emphasis.
I say Keanu Reeves.
Sci-Fi has some really gay commercials for their anime, and the ear grading dubs really don't help me want to watch them either.
I think that it shouldn't be nearly that hard to make good dialogue, I mean GITS has some really fuckin thick dialogue talking about politics, science and all that other bullshit and all the actors have smooth as silk voices, whether or not they match the intonation and attitudes of the original cast. Because they are so natural it works to me just the same.
It's actually pretty hard. Acting, especially voice acting, typically requires that people put a lot more emotion into the character voices on a consistent basis than the average English-speaker is used to hearing, so it ends up sounding artificial no matter what. On the other hand, none of us regularly speak Japanese in normal voices with our pals, so we don't get the same feeling that something's off when Shinji ALWAYS sounds whiny.
It's more likely they're trying to cash in on their longtime viewers. Adult Swim's been trying to keep the sort of people who watched Toonami ten years ago, but who're now all grown up and have aged out of daytime CN's target demographic, not to mention that Toonami basically got assfucked a few years ago. If they decide to cut down on anime, they can either pump out some more cheap-to-produce but very hit-or-miss crappy comedy, or they can dig out some stuff that was pretty cool when we saw it a few years ago but that we'll think is AWESOME thanks to nostalgia glasses.
What? Unless, you have an insanely high expectation for dubs, the SAC dubs are very good, better than the movie IMO. And I actually prefer them much more than the Japanese version and they pretty damn good as well. This comes from a person who watch all of their animu subbed.
Insanity. No way the Japanese voice track is inferior to the English voice track for SAC.
And yeah, it's much better than the movie dub.
You're part of why dubs suck so much dick.
You probably also want them to say "Chan" and "Kun" because it's more Japanese.
I hate it when they do that in dubs. Is that still common (I haven't watched a dub outside of AS in years)?
No. Luckily they don't do that.
Speaking of bad dubs, is it true that Lisa Ortiz doesn't do voice acting anymore?
Yeah, I turned the channel when I heard how they pronounced Eureka, it just sounded too stupid. The only other time I tuned into it was when the final episode aired, even then I didn't really pay attention to the TV because I was already unconcerned with the series.
And this is why I laugh every time someone says "the anime companies should ask us, the weeaboos, what we want from dubs". Sounding Japanese vs Making up your own pronunciation is the new subs vs dubs.
>>Could it be that they were playing shitty, generic anime and need to license some better stuff?
No has more to do with the fact that Anime isn't very popular. Doesn't matter what they show FG reruns murder the best anime in ratings on its best day.
I don't know but I hope not. I tried watching an episode of Slayers dubbed once just because people had praised her Lina so much and I was fucking scarred for life.
I meant hope so. It should be obvious from context though.
WE SHOULD JUST GO BACK TO CHANGING EVERYTHING TO AMERICAN NAMES INSTEAD
