I'm sure a lot of these players were anti-social NEETs before their world got changed. Right?

Why is it they are leading armies and are brilliant strategists and not bumbling with their own words and dropping spaghetti everywhere.

No, EVE online deals with spaceships and space battles anyways.

They are in person now, it isn't a game anymore. It's their world. I'm sure their personality would also go with them, seeing how its their face and body after all.
>>
They've spent more time living in Elder Tale than their real lives. They've had years to become armchair generals.

LH in a nutshell
>>
People become NEET because they have no skills and people don't like them, plus they might not be very attractive. So then you take them, put them in a world where the only skill they have (video games) is the only skill that matters, and you make them look like gorgeous video game protagonists.
>>
>>102297640
I don't think you get it. They were behind their computer screens like I am now. I am not interacting with any human being, but then they are thrown into a world where they have to react with other players or be tosses aside.
>>
>>102297723
Do you think that people who play video games excessively never talk to humans ever?
>>
>>102297766
Not necessarily, but I wasn't applying this to every character in the show.
>>
>>102297378
because a new lease on life.
/thread.
>>
>>102297723
I don't think you get it.

These are people they've already had regular contact with, in a world they've seen in great detail for a long time, now given the bodies of what are ostensible demi-gods.

Like it or not communication is still interaction and these are all people that have a common language. Several key members of the cast aren't even NEETs as well.
>>
>>102297792
People have a hard time interacting with other people because they are insecure, not because they have no knowledge of how to talk to someone. Somehow those insecurities go away when you're amazing at things and gorgeous.
>>
From what I've seen all of the members of Log Horizon do seem to have personal issues
>>
people tend to be different when he in different world anon
>>
I think they gain superpowers or some shit when they went into this world, so everyone felt stronger and im sure that strength increases as they leveled.
>>
>>102297378
>have superpowers
>be immortal
>catgirls/[x] touch fluffy tail everywhere
>guaranteed progress in life (it's called levelups)
>play with like-minded people
>"work" consists of killing some monsters, and a few kills a day pay for your basic needs, everything ontop of that is profit
>pick professions you like
>>
>>102297867
There's no reason to be insecure when you're a maxed level god of death with a beautiful avatar and intimate knowledge of how the new world works.

It's blatant escapism, but it's not unrealistic.
>>
>>102297867
people have a hard time interacting because it's outside their comfort zone or because they see it as a chore.

and with telepathy you still don't have to see your guild members face to face most of the time. only when there's a raid/dungeon crawl. and then you're busy killing things and having fun instead of annoying smalltalk.
>>
>>102298084
Thats what I'm saying.
>>
>>102297378
Yes, a lot of them have social issues. Like the twins not knowing how to ask for help, akatsuki inferiority complex.

But the minority are leaders in real life (guild master) and act like one.
>>
>>102297482
Then you have never gotten into a video game.
>>
>>102298193
you don't even have to be a leader personality in real life to be a min-maxer who knows the game rules like his back of the hand and knows how to exploit rules in their favor.

and MMO guild politics is are not like real life politics. there are no lives at stake, only pride and occasionally some ingame currency. so you learn a very different kind of negotiating. compromise is not necessary. one can simply remain in conflict without much of a problem.
as seen by shiroe blackmailing an entire city of players and getting away with it and even being accepted as their semi-official man-behind-the-men.

even "people skills" can be simplified compared to real life simply because people who like each other have an easy way to find together and thus reduce conflict. voting with your feet is hard in real life but it's easy as far as guilds go.
>>
now that I think about it, shouldnt the adventurer population be higher?

I wonder what the advertisement looks like across the globe for the homesteading the noosphere update

>>
>>102297378
Well, shit OP, not all of them are like that.

Shiroe and Crusty are really the only two characters that come to mind as "brilliant strategists". Minori is working her way up there because she wants Shiroe to give her a proud smile as he's drilling her tight little loli butthole.

Crusty probably has a good bit of combat experience from leading one of the largest combat guilds in Elder Tale. He's used to setting up fights, positioning his troops, predicting the enemy movement, because he had to do that shit before the Apocalypse. Now he's just doing it in first person.

Shiroe is just doing pretty much exactly what he was doing before. Predicting the fight, planning around it. He's almost autistically controlled when it comes to the battlefield.

The rest of the cast don't seem overly smart. Not necessarily dumb, with the exception of Tohya who can't tank for shit oh my god stop using your abilities when you don't need to save your fucking taunt what the fuck are you doing this makes my inner tank cry
>>
Real life: NEET has accomplished nothing, has nothing to be proud of, has no useful skill.

Elder Tale: NEET is a bad ass adventurer who's completed countless quests, slain many monsters, has powerful gear, and impressive fighting abilities.

Not very hard to see why they are more assertive and confident.

I wish there was more action in the show. The beginning held a good premise of super online RPG combat action but then the rest sort of happened. In a good MMO guild leaders DO run logistics operations. They're just not very complex and allow for lots of shortcuts due to instant guild bank access or similar non-physical features like that.

Having an unjammable, instantanous communication system and party member tracking, zoom nightvision tincture and all that crap

This is kiddy mode logistics compared to real life.

Their whole world runs on modified MMO mechanics.

So lander "politics" probably aren't very advanced either. Considering they had willing minions taking quests (adventurers) and undefeated guardians (izumu something) before.

I agree with you OP. If LH were taking the realistic approach, most people would be awkward faggots with stupid names and poor builds while trying to act like they're important now and failing. Not to mention men would outnumber women and the men would hover around any remotely attractive one. (This is basing it off of what I remember of the first episode, where everyone spawns with their real bodies and can only change into their avatars via an item, sorry if I'm mistaken.) That would be a much more interesting way to take it, I think. But LH is a "turn your brain off and enjoy it" type of show, so just go with it.

Cmon, it mostly makes sense, most of these people (like a lot of /a/) felt let down by society, or had no place in it, they're in a place where they basically had their second life, and now that place tells them they do have a place and are worth something, the majority wouldn't 'spaghetti'.
You don't act the same as you do in real life, in online games, and if they became real after you've played one for years, you wouldn't suddenly act like you would in real life (which you didn't care for in the first place).
Especially knowing you're in the company of the same old players/people like you that are in the same predicament.
If they were stuck with normal people suddenly playing a game, yes, they would spaghetti without a fork and plate.

I can't believe someone would actually keep track of all the stuff of MMOs. I think most classes are bundled with each other because it's almost indistinguishable from the other, like Clerics and Priests.

I would classify classes by their play style, their orientation in combat, the damage they deal, what type, and how much.

For example, a warrior is always bound to have a magic user as a partner. If the warrior deals more damage than the magic user, then it's either a healer or disabler.

These classes pertained less to a fixed linear class play style than a 'forest tree style', where some branches are connected with other class trees (although seldom).
Think of all classes (/class abilities) coming from the same source, but ending up with different attributes.
It was mostly based on the manwha 'Yureka'

I guess I'm still really confused about what went down with the world and all.

So some sentient world magic happened inside the servers of Elder Tale which actually affected the outside world. The players are no longer at their computers playing but instead living the game themselves, in their world. This includes the game mechanics as well.

That's how it went down right?

Does this affect the entire population, or just the players logged in?

Whats happening around the world when this went on?

>>
>>102303077

You can count me in that group. I used to play Runescape when I was 12, actually, but I've grown to realize that the MMO genre just isn't worth it. Not only are they the worst type of games, but they're played by the worst type of people.

I think most "gamers" are attracted to MMOs because of some sort of romanticized dream of what you believe them to be. In reality, they are the original Farmville; they're all built around calculated grinds that keep you paying subscriptions or entice you into microtransactions. There is simply zero reason to play an MMO once you've realized this.

Imagine, for example, Mega Man. Now, take Mega Man, and change it a bit. Make it so that, if you want to fight the second "Robot Master," you have to beat the first one 12 more times. Also, you can only fight the first Robot Master once per week arbitrarily. Do you know what Mega Man I've just created? I've created the shittiest Mega Man of all time, and it's just like your favorite MMO.

I think in my experience with MMOs, classes tend to be unique to garner interdependence amongst players, with later classes being hybrids of the starting ones. That has reduced the class roster in most games I've played, and somehow, when encountering a druid class, I'm not sure if it's also a Shaman, a Summoner, or a Berserker. Probably because of builds.

D&D fourth edition did a damn good job on classes classification

Each class has:
>A primary role
Roles are
Striker (DPS)
Controller (moves stuff around, debuffs)
Defender (taunting/punishing tank)
Leader (heals, buffs)

>A Theme
There are sources of power:
Martial, arcane, divine, psionic, primal etc

>A secondary role
a Paladin's primary role is Defender, secondary role is Leader
When a Paladin is ignored by mobs, he heals allies
He is very tough and resilient and can buff allies to some extent
This is very different from another defender, the Fighter
Fighter's secondary role is striker.
A fighter is tough just like a paladin, but his powers and specialities allow him to deal mora damage than the average defender. When a fighter is ignored, he deals heavy punishment
The psionic warrior is another defender
The swordmage is again a defender, but his secondary role is control

In addition to that, there are specific differences in behavior
a rogue and an avenger are both close combat strikers with low HP, they both deal a ton of damage
a rogue is more evasive though, and deals the best damage when the best conditions are met
the Avenger is basically impossible to run away from, he will teleport behind you Bleach style and his chance of hitting are the most reliable in the game
It's a very different playstyle, given the same range and primary role
Or you might want to play a Warlock, a magic striker that focuses on killing one big enemy at a time.
Or a sorcerer, master of AoE

As if this wasn't enough

Each class can be customized to some extent.
You can try to make your wizard (a controlling class) more strikey to some extent. Or your Warlord more focused on healing or tactics or defending
>>
>>102304695

How many factors are you intentionally missing in your assumption they must -ALL- be basement-dwelling cheeto grinding fatties. It's an MMO-rpg... majority is bound to have social skills because otherwise in most mmo's (fuck off with your current WoW system) you can't get anywhere.
Thus majority is bound to understand basics. We might be fairly underschooled in our current Western educational system. But our self conscious thinking and trivial/world knowledge per individual is higher than the dark age level of civilization.
We take a lot of now-a-days knowledge for granted and I keep getting surprised that so many people don't occasionally amaze themselves over their immense amount of commonly known data.

sounds interesting;

when I created my version of yureka classes and then added everything else; I thought more of what each class could possibly do, pertaining to their attributes of abilities and possibly history and how the Subclasses (or Focus) would interact with one another, but I may have neglected the overall description of the alignment they should create.
but you can add that way of thinking yourself;
>>
>>102305153
Well, also people who play MMOrpgs at a high level are often a bit nerdy. Nerds love learning about battles and history and stuff and probably read a bunch of fantasy literature - and that can grant someone a surprisingly good grasp of basic battle theory, formations, what not to do, etc.

the game/reality concept is to discover classes ingame as Yureka didnt really stop leveling at l99 and made it possible although unlikely to learn multiple classes; did any of you read yureka (its good)?

Also just because my class descriptions say that your character can learn dps and healing and crowd control; doesnt mean that you are going to learn every ability just because you level up.
I made it clear that abilities were needed to be learned through an external source or by discovering it with the (unspecialised class) dabbler's art (hard)
I thought more on the side of Attribute of Druid is nature; what should the Druid be able to do than druid should be restricted to this.

In a recognised guild that cleared all game content, but I wouldn't have said a "top" guild.

In regards to OP, I started leading a casual raiding guild in WoW when I was 18 and it was actually a great experience for me.

I was a shut-in socially awkward NEET at the time, and WoW was my only real social outlet. That being said, it's actually pretty socially engaging if you let it be, and I was able to cultivate a fun, light-hearted atmosphere by basically not holding back any offensive humor and attracting like-minded idiots.

When it came time to raid, I found out it was pretty easy to take charge, research boss fights, explain the encounters to people, and get them to listen to whatever I said. Suddenly I had all these divorced 40 year olds looking to me as a leader, and it felt pretty good.

I've since found some motivation and success in my life, and my social skills have become a strong point. I honestly don't know if I would have made this progress in my life if not for WoW

It's true, you are nothing but a grunt. Very few people ie alliance leaders and their small cohorts ever get to pull sway on things. But you can't deny the sheer logistics and internal issues that happen. Very few touch the true large scale warfare of making tactical decisions, but almost anyone can do smaller scale internal shit.

Yurekas 'Lost Saga' system is better than 'Log Horizon' system; but that is because Lost Saga plays in the year 2030 or something, while Log Horizon is like 2015. Also according to the manwha lost saga is an 'incomplete game', as the creator died before finishing it, but he left a self-testing core.

He should've put forth an official explanation at the council meeting.
>>
>>102309924
Oh and now all of a sudden adventurers are too dumb to realize that they're being taken advantage of, and landers aren't afraid of the backlash from a few hundred thousand immortal beings with power levels may times their own.

Adventurers and landers need each other, and cross cultural exchange will benefit each other greatly. Landers need adventurers for protection since the disappearance of their old champions, and also the new world ideas and innovations that they possess.

Adventurers need information about the inner workings of the new world they currently inhabit to better understand if they can return to their old world and if they can't how to better integrate themselves into this new society.

Instead we have all this bullshit about, oh we can't let each other know about our true intentions so let's keep dragging shit out cause we like to play pretend at cloak and daggers

Do you mean like doing raids? If so yes at times. I didn't like to grind PvE though. I much preferred PvP but I was extremely competent for raids. I was the mage tank for that one raid where mages could tank using spell steals. Also, I never missed my counter spelling or cc chain rotations and I was master at kiting.
>-is/was in a top guild on their server/game
Yes, I was in several of the top guilds for my sever but I was usually guildless for long stretches at a time. When I finally quit WoW back in 2008 or 2010 I left while my main character sat in one of the oldest guilds with some of the highest list of achievements. I was also likely the best mage on my server when it came to PvP for most of the years that I played and was on top PvP arena teams and likely had the most World PvP kills on my server.

I think being capable of chatting in reasonable english is the most important thing. Nothing is more annoying than the language barrier.

People might berate you for being a bad player but generally are willing to teach you if you're willing to listen. But if you can't even talk with each other beyond "hurr, I tank. heal plz. why ded?" then they will just resent you.

It's terrible on EU servers where some people think they don't need to cooperate with players from other countries and always chat in their mother tongue.
That's why I usually play on US servers, and english isn't even my 1st language.

Pain minor inconvenience.
Death not possible (as to their knowledge).
Morals go up with decent-tasting food and work.
Motivation urges them forward towards exploration, scientific discovery, battles (for fun) and building their new homes and whatnot.

First things in Log Horizon; I would be okay from the get go, as I often am aware of myself in my dreams, which are often quite different from the persona I am now.
Swashbuckler or Enchanter (post even number is Swashbuckler)
Would set priority to
World Research and Exploration
A place to call home (I would prefer to have like an elven tower/castle somewhere near water);
Magic Research (Even as a swashbuckler would still try to learn magic later, if I was able to find a/the loophole)

Let's stop bullshitting. Almost no one here would have chosen scribe. You're only choosing scribe because the MC uses it and you know it's broken. But if you didn't know that then there's a 0% you would have chosen that.

But that doesn't mean that the experiences I have had playing the games based off MMOs, and interacting with people that have played MMOs would put me at a disadvantage. I have played things like Runescape to help a co-worker's kid get to a quest he was having issues with (he was 12, and the co-worker knew I knew a lot about games) as well as PSO2, and in that time, I realized that most of those general servers are people going "rezplz" or "goldplz" which was why I avoided those games - I saw level 3 people begging for gold (they only needed 1000) and I was able to make that from level 1-3 with ease.

It really put a damper on my desire to play MMOs.

again, that depends. If I was going for a "merchant" build, I'd pick scribe to make enchantments or other tools in the enchantment of weapons, if the subclass worked that way. If I were going to sell food, I'd choose a subclass of chef.

It depends on the preference of what I wanted to get out of the character and class I was playing.

Cleric often sucks for solo yes, so you're highly dependent on the party. But if you excel at your job you're a fucking rockstar.

>guild mates [damn good themselves, used to playing hard mode dungeons] play with random, shitty healer. kill speed is slow because it's dangerous/he can't keep up with their slightly reckless play style
>go online
>get immediately teleport-called to the dungeon (expensive item)
>go full hyperactive healing/CC/yes-this-cleric-also-pulls mode to show off to the noob healer
>we move up to a room with more mobs which are 5 level higher
>kill speed still twice as fast despite level difference
>guild mates are grateful for my presence
This is what I play for. I have a big ego, but I try to earn it as much as I kan. Doing your job beyond normal levels also feels great, keeping even squishy glass cannons alive when they're tanking a dungeon boss for fun.

Many people play very casually, some even watch TV while grinding or shit like that, only clicking/macroing some buttons. I give the game full attention, for hours. It makes a huge difference.

Gets me the top-tier parties, I get to pick players if we have free slots, unofficial dibs on healing gear. Totally worth the wait/downtime when you need to assemble parties.

Sorcerer. Not the kind that stays in the back of the battalion, but the one that goes with the warriors. And for subclass, probably i'll be a swordsmith first, then when the time is right, change to sigilmaker. just wanna do an experiment, create an overskill, if you will.

>Create dozens of swords, millions of them, and store them in a secret warehouse for future use.
>Experiment with sigils if they work anywhere besides monsters and items and people (write character for fire on table to see if table burns)
>If enough experiments are made, devise runic system

Wait, what are the swords for? First you need to set up:
>Portal mechanic "infinite hole": You set Out on the ceiling, and In on the floor
>throw swords in In, they go down, they come back from the ceiling and fall for eternity until later use

Now here's where the magic begins:
>You can cast Unlimited Blade Works or Gate of Babylon when in battle

there are plenty of casuals in the games. and at lower levels people don't care so much about your skill either. only high level players will be demanding because they're used to higher standards.

Really, there's nothing wrong with being a newbie as long as you're willing to learn. Just soak up all the information you can. Not just about your own class. About other classes, aggro, damage calculations and whatnot. Knowing the game mechanics like the back of your hand is key to becoming a top tier player.

These aren't exclusive, and good guilds will usually be both at the same time except on french servers.
>>
Would you make a guild on log horizon only for 4chan? Or specific boards only

Elder Tales has open world pvp, and open world pvp > duel faggotry.
>>

In the game Elder Tales Cough cough

whats the cc ability?

What?

In vol 6 Rieze completely freezes an insanely high-level raid boss with a single long range spell.
>>
Forgive me if this has been addressed.

There are probably lots of reverse gendered people in the world with very little chance of being changed back [Shiroe's potion to Akatsuki was rare]. Do they live their lives as their new genders and ultimately get used to being a new sex?
>>
>>102316008
>Tanks can be nice but they are also forceful.

But look at >>102315560, he's basically waiting for us to tell him to do something he knows he should to do anyway. Healer are usually too passive and the dps are naturally one-button-with-tunnel-vision idiots who won't understand until you beat them over the head with the strat. So if you're leading you gotta be forceful no matter your class. Tanks just get stuck leading by default.
>>
>>102316564
They get used to it. After all, that's how the world sees you now.
>>
>>102316235
You probably dislike relying on other people if you don't need to.

so yes
>>
>>102316546
direct hit magic; ground magic; AoE magic?
>>
>>102316623
Not to mention all the plumbing has changed, even if the voice stays the same.
>>
>>102316129
>wipe
hah. at high levels someone in the party should have a combo that can shut down practically everything for a few seonds and give everyone a chance to run for safety.

>healer
just use your doomsday heal that steals aggro on everything in sight and start kiting

>CC class
well, d'uh. use whatever "makes mob as dangerous as a kitten" skill you have

>summoner class
you better have some legendary summon that grants 10 seconds of invulnerability for sacrificing its HP or whatever

>tank
hit that invulnerability button

>mage
same as healer, except with a nuke
>>
>>102316717

It's silly that the vocal cords wouldn't change when the gentials do.
>>
>>102316660
She casts it on air above him or something, to make range longer so i guess it might be ground aoe, might just be apocalypse changing how spells are cast.

That would be quite a dick move
>>
>>102316807

Well the genitals were part of the avatar, the voice technically came from the player themselves

What's really dumb is in body/mindswap stories, they keep their original voices

>Healer are usually too passive
I like leading and be a healer at the same time. Allows the tank to focus on the mobs while I micromanage the players.

There's a way. For guys who got turned into goils, push your larynx back every 2 days for a few hours. And then start the voice training program thing. Or you can opt to inhale helium when you try to speak. Just a small dose.

>>102316904
They say the voice is a key component to the soul, meaning it's connected when you switch bodies.
>>
>>102316850
>It's ok honey, I used to be a woman. We can just switch
>>
>>102316904
>What's really dumb is in body/mindswap stories, they keep their original voices

That was the best part of Kokoro Connect. The voices were linked to the bodies but you could tell immediately when someone had swapped because the voice actor changed their tone and inflections to match the other character.

Bodyswap is so rare it hardly matters, but I wish other shows learned from that.

Are you xXxeDgEmAsTeRo9xXx?
>>

>Tanks just get stuck leading by default
That's actually nice, I love it when the dps gets mad at the healer, then the tank protects the latter and lectures the DPS. It feels like he's a white knight that you can rely on to save you because you don't have the guts to stand for yourself and go into a useless argument
>>
>>102306070

It's gotta be later than 2015, they say Elder Tale has been running for over 20 years.
>>
>>102317032
>oh! Then I'll let you use the potion so we can be lesbians
>>
>>102317016
Oh, I forget something.

What I meant is the game avatar got a body but no soul. It's literally a husk. Everything that can be seen outside is premolded in the game avatar. So when the Apocalypse happened, all the souls, voice included, were channeled in the fleshed out game avatars. So you get the genitals of your game avatar, but you keep your voice.

So, Sigilmakers basically have the powers of the Roivas family in Eternal Darkness right? Like inscribing runes on stuff to make magic happen and combining them to find new spells?

the unwritten rule that tank should pick male and healer female character. mom and dad of the party, shepherding the ADD kids
>>
>>102316008
It's a bit worrying. And a bit awesome. You see a small cartoon sprite on some game on the internet and you can tell how the person behind the keyboard manipulating the cartoon character is, with a certain degree of certainty.
Technology, nigger. It's super.
