ANIME are not CARTOONS

ANIME is INTELLIGENT and ADULT

On MY /a/?

In before the literal meaning of "cartoon".

I hate japan
I like their cartoons and games

Animation is animation
>>

Some of its comic books are pretty good too.
>>
>>10229619
oh lawd, is dat sum Merchant of Neo-Venezia reference?
>>
If you do not believe it, then you're in denial.

Anime is cartoons. You draw it up, give it computer graphics, add voices behind it; you basically have the same thing.

BELIEVE THIS.
>>
>>10229644
Some people seem to think that this causes a lot of /a/ngst. It doesn't.
>>
Yes | no | What's anime?

Anime has more heart.

Those are cartoons also

Oh shit! Anime is cartoon!!? This changes everything. I better stop watching right away before I look like a childish fool.
>>
>>10229644
There's no one on /a/ who has a problem with anime being called a cartoon.
>>
>>10229685
Orly? Did you ask everybody?
>>
>>10229660
No shit Anime has more characters than most American Cartoon.

What were you expecting BenTen to have 3 hearts in each characters chest or something?

You stated: There's no one on /a/ who has a problem with anime being called a cartoon.

You admit you have no evidence to support this, and I could prove you wrong by finding ONE PERSON who has a problem with anime being called cartoons who also browses /a/. Go kill yourself.

But you can't because there are none. I know this because I'm friends with everyone here.

You should lurk more, I'm very popular.
>>
>>10229578
you should really try this troll in a place that's less mature than /a/. Just about any other animu forum will give the shitstorm you're looking for.
>>
>>10229749
no john, you are the cartoons
>>
>>10229685
I do.
>>
>>10229779
Don't get butthurt, most of us ignore Cirno anyway.
He fails at trolling.
>>
Cartoons are the American label. Anime is the Japanese label.

I feel more comfortable adopting that term for each set of cartoons that each specific country creates. Unlike a lot of people who would encompass them all by calling them cartoons, or the Japanese who would call them all anime, I'd rather take a middle ground.

Only elitist assholes who feel smug over their Merriam-Websters would try to label them all one or the other.
>>
>>10229778
You're my friend. I thought I had no friends...;_;

/ thread.

OK, one such person is myself. You have no reason to not believe me, and I have the necessary qualifications (I'm a weeaboo). You've been proven wrong.

>I know this because I'm friends with everyone here.

No, you have no friends here. Everybody hates you.

>You should lurk more, I'm very popular.

Delusion.
>>
>>10229797
I don't troll. I've made my stance clear. But you already know this, buddy. That was pretty funny.
>>
>>10229811
Clearly you haven't been here long.
>>
Fags, it can go either way, just like CCS can be labeled "anime" in America and Doraemon can be labeled "cartoon" in Japland.
>>
jesus christ I can't believe you guys are failing for it...
>>
>>10229826

But Doraemon IS a cartoon.
>>
>>10229811
He is subtly trolling.
>>
>>10229826
Bullseye.

Anime are not Cartoons, and Cartoons are not Anime.

They're one or the other, but they are not the same.
>>
>>10229820
Nobody gets trolled by you, your presence is simply mildly annoying. Hope my most recent intellectual victory over you doesn't have any serious long-lasting effects.
>>
>>10229845
I don't troll, and no one is annoying by me, because I'm a friend.
>>
I can't believe this thread reeks massive failure.
>>
>>10229798
Hypothetically, if you read them, would you also call Tintin, Asterix, Spirou and the likes "bandes dessinées"? Because that's what Belgians call their comic books.
>>
>>10229847
OK.
>>
>>10229768
This week on /a/...
Anonymous disagrees with Cirno
>>
>>10229856
If they were made in Belgium, sure.

Though I thought Asterix was a French creation.
>>
I just call everything "animation".
>>
>>10229856
sure i'll call any cartoons i read band dizniz or whatever other faggoty name you can think of.
>>
>>10229868
Never happened before.
>>
>>10229798
lolwut? So we're calling everything by their by their native names? This is going to be fun.
>>
>>10229872
Well, it doesn't matter since bande-dessinées is French anyway (it's even called bande dessinées franco-belge sometimes).

And american comic-books are called comic in other country than America, so I don't see the problem.
>>
Anime is a FRENCH WORD.
>>
!mOWjKAWAI gtfo.
>>
>>10229882
>Never happened before.
It happens often. /a/ loves to troll, and there's really two options for trolling. You can either upset everyone by lowering the quality of /a/ with crap. Or you can upset the highbrow users by insulting their good taste. I think we're all mature enough to agree that I have great taste, so people target me all the time.

It's pretty amusing.
>>
>>10229872
My bad on Asterix. The name still stands, however.

Still, I can't say I agree with this line of thinking. Words are created for each language for a good reason - they just work better with the people they're created for and their tongue. There's a reason why we don't say foreign pronunciations for, say, "spring rolls," even if the dish is something that clearly isn't created by the West.

Do you also call Japanese voice actors "seiyuu"?
>>
I just...fuck, saging this shit.
>>
>>10229907
No, it's not.
>>
>>10229916
HA HA HA HA
>>
>>10229917
Yeah, I call them seiyuu. You are right though, there is a limit.

I would love to label things more in their native language. I don't think it's that much trouble.
>>
>>10229916
>I think we're all mature enough to agree that I have great taste, so people target me all the time.

Not enough smirks in the world.
>>
browsing through this thread gave me instant headache. too much (9) pollution

I do.
And I call a korean comic-book a manhwa too, a japanese one a manga...
It just depends who you are talking to.

I personally think you are putting yourself on an undeserved pedestal.

No pedestal here. There are other people in /a/ who have great taste as well. It's just that I'm a rather well-known and well-liked personality in /a/. It makes me a very attractive target.
>>
>>10229866
aye its all animation
>>
The reason anime and cartoons are distinguished between is because japanese animation uses a somewhat different artstyle, is not exclusively comedy, and also aims at teenage and college student demographics.
>>
>>10230001
No. It's because it's made in different countries.

Aye, the qualms I have with foreign pronunciations is that either people say it in a cringe-worthy (80% of the time) or when they do say it properly, they have to change dialect, which in my opinion is somewhat disruptive to the flow of speech... I'm open to the possibility that it could just be me and my own pet peeves, though.

But really. I'd much rather have people call everything "comics" and make it sound good then "manga," "bande dessinée," or "manhwa" and fumbling.

Well then I suppose it is all up to what makes people feel comfortable. With practice, I think almost any word can flow in a sentence. Or you can initialize it, like calling "bande dessinée" BD.

For me, it's like going to a Japanese restaurant and trying to avoid saying things like wasabi or ramen or sushi.
>>
>>10230101

I, too, like to label everything according to the language of its creators.

Therefore I call American animation cartoons, and every other animation animation. I think it's only fair.

Anime is a cartoon made in japan. Watching anime does not make you an adult kids, you better believe it.

If you want to be adult and serious business, join the army.

>>10230225
anyway its anime and stuff so the end

>>10230217
Bias is nothing wrong, he's writing from a personal standpoint, not creating a history textbook.

And in what way exactly is it "broken"? Mistakes? Falsifications? Can you name them?

Saving this one for the DEEP anime recommendations threads.
