why is anime now so often referred to as "Chinese cartoons"?

i always thought it was a Japanese thing
>>
Because there are people who are still butthurt about the rape of nanking and are trying to discredit japan by attributing one of their primary exports to a non-allied nation.

Or they're just greenfags butthurt about muh whales and muh dolphins, which without hunting them would seriously put a dent in their economy.

Take your pick.
>>
Because is purposefully misleading.

Fuck off.

Japan hasn't really produced much animation since the late 1990s. Now almost all anime is made in China, but out of convention we still watch the Japanese dub because most of the fanbase of the medium is still in Japan, plus the chinese voice actors are pretty terrible by comparison.
