I know it's late but i just finished this.
1. WTF did i just watch ?
2. Why do i love it ?
3. Was...was she banging the MC's dad's brains out ?
why does it matter whether or not she was banging the dad? jealous? ;)
>1. WTF did i just watch ?
6 episodes of Gianax at it's best.
>2. Why do i love it ?
It was fucking good.
>3. Was...was she banging the MC's dad's brains out ?
She wanted to use his head. and it was only for one episode. High probability.
Good job catching up, slowpoke.
The greatest anime of all time.
Because it's good.
No, but Naota sure as hell thought she was.
>1. WTF did i just watch ?
One of the biggest, broadest and most intricate stories of a massive intergalactic war and quest for ultimate power, told entirely from the perspective of some kid on earth who is barely a blip compared to the grand scale of events happening in the universe
> Was...was she banging the MC's dad's brains out ?
This is the one that still throws me off. Idunno.
In the manga she definitely was
Also...What does FLCL mean ? What is Furi Kuri ?
>barely a blip
>responsible for releasing Atomsk and breaking Medical Mechanica's grip on Earth
Naota was pretty fucking important.
what it is
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it was the same in the manga, except in the manga Naota killed his real dad because of it, whereas in the anime it was a robot Haruko created.
Whatever you want it to mean, as evidenced by its usage by everyone in the show. However, in episode 2 or 3 Haruko does describe the process of pulling something through an NO portal as "FLCL", so that may be the actual definition.
What? I mean it's got a hell of a lot of symbolism and metaphors, and decent depth of characterization, but the story is sure as hell not intricate. They just don't go into painstaking detail to make sure that the audience is 100% clued in on every single plot point. They say what's happening once, and if you weren't paying attention that's your own damn fault that you won't know what's going on, but they very simply said what it was and story wise it was meant to be taken at face value.
Oh no the plot in the actual show is straightforward as hell, I agree.
But all the events going on beyond what we see happening in those 6 episodes, you just know there's some real shit going on there
Yeah sure I'll agree with that.
Grand yes. Intricate, no. There's no political intrigue or anything. Just a terraforming organization who kidnapped a galactic Pirate, a peace keeping agency, and Haruko.
CAN YOU FEEEEEEEEEEL
You could very well be right. I mean all we can ever do is speculate in our own ways what the wider world of FLCL is actually like
And that's both cool as hell and frustating as fuck. So thanks for that Gainax you devious cunts
Who cares if it's furi or kuri?
3. it was a robot. rewatch it.
>...Watermelon. Or like a panda with a mean face, or like sandals with pressure points drawn on them, or the smell of a blackboard eraser, or a Sunday morning where you wake up and it's raining. Well, I like him more than hard bread.
I love this line so much. It really sold me on the dub. It feels so genuine somehow. The whole scene is just fucking great, one of my all time favorite anime moments. http://youtu.be/3DZO1oiiLcE
no, mine are just the first and the third
not in the manga (shit was dark)
The manga was retarded and had shit artwork.
mamimi was first waifu
Honestly the 2000s were my teenage years and I had a lot of time to watch anime. This is still my favorite though, goddamn is it good. I watch it at least once a year and still get the feelings from the first time.
2. Why do i love it ?
Because it's good.
I hope Naoda realized what a faggot he was and decided to tap that in high school.
>mfw he probably didn't get laid until 3rd year when she decided to stop fucking around and jump him
I liked the more woven (as opposed to episodic) plot, and the artstyle grew on me
Don't forget canon scenario according to one of the adaptations is that they go their separate ways after school and never see each other again
>according to one of the adaptations
What are you talking about?
Oh, right, forgot about the novelization.
Yeah that. And it seemed to be a bit edgy for edgy's sake but what can you do.
Maybe Enokido was annoyed that FLCL was never going to get a continuation and decided to vent through his writing.
The real world is sorely lacking in women who pair red-rimmed glasses and long-sleeved soviet shirts.
You're absolutely right. A lot of the dub acting just feels so "natural".
To be honest, all these years and I still haven't watched through FLCL in Japanese. It's probably the only anime (Besides maybe Bebop) where I can say that.
i watch all anime in jap. And why wouldn't you watch this one ? mamimi is voiced by Nonon from Kill la Kill's actress
not mamimi, i meant haruko
There's no need for me to, as the dub is as good if not better than the sub.
And ofc I know the voice actress. You think I'm some kind of casual?
The first time I watched FLCL the plot didn't make perfect sense to me either, but now that I've seen it atleast 5 or 6 times everything is perfectly clear.
well i don't think i've ever watched an anime in english dubs besides dragonball because it was long ago and i was a casual back then. But now i couldn't watch any anime dubbed. Still i love the FLCL jap voice acting a lot.
CAN YOU FEEL THAT HYBRID RAINBOWWW
How should I know, I'm still in grade school! You think I'm that crazy?
It's the noise that breasts make when you fondle them! Listen to grandpa he knows his shit!
Ya do it like this with yer hands, see?
It was a robot haruko was fucking with him
1. The best thing ever
2. See one
3. No, Haruko never fucks anyone. She considers humans to be too far below her, most likely, save for Naota at the end of the series. She definitely wasn't fuggin' the MC's dad, she made a robot to massage her and make Naota jealous, since she 'operated' his N.O. channel by using his emotions as a sort of control panel. By making him feel jealous, scared, or affectionate at different times, she could manipulate his N.O.
Made this for you guys.
I can hear it.
Best song, best episode. Lesser tastes need not apply.
Working as intented
I think the low point of my recent life was realizing that, deep down inside, I'm not Naota, but Commander Amarao. I think more like him and sympathize with his plight. He does his best but still gets fucked over the entire econd half.
Commander Amarao is moe.
This song gives me goosebumps. The ending of episode 4 was so fucking good, Jesus Christ.
>Your face when the sky changes colors
>Your face when "What's that?" "Your bat."
>Your face when "That kid will never pull it off!"
>Your face when he swings the bat
>Your face when Haruko comes in and knocks it into orbit
Episode 5 had the best middle, and Episode 4 had the best end.
Reading your post gave me goosebumps. Fuck, time to rewatch it.
Woulda been nice to see his antics with Haruka when he was young.
You know, I was wondering: Haruko could probably have kill Amarao as easily as the other agents in the shootout scene. Maybe she feels guilty at some level about what she did to him so she didn't actually want to hurt him. Just an idea I had. She was fucking around with him shooting up the street, and never bothered to kill him whenever she got the chance.
She needed him for the shitty slingshot she gets from him during Ep 5.
I just rewatched Episode 4, and...
I just realized that it's Haruko who purposefully joined a baseball team so that she would be able to hit a baseball at a specific time, at a specific angle, with a shitload of physical strength so that her baseball not only achieves fucking escape velocity, but damages the Immigration Satellite in orbit, disabling it in just the right way so that the rest of the episode can happen. Joining the baseball team was never for money at all.
That is some serious fucking keikaku dori shit.
I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN
WHEN THE KIDS SEEK OUT THE FUTURE
MAYBE KIDS DON'T NEEED THE MASTAH
what ever happen to this
It was too good to be real anon.
Something like that would only be a shit cash-in.
it could be a cool fighter though.
Oh yeah, i only watched the anime. I heard the manga was a lot darker, should i read it?
Wasn't Amarao supposed to symbolise the adults who only act adult but in reality never grew up?
Okay that went completely over my head. Time to redownload and rewatch.
You watched an 6 episode long music video for The Pillows.
Yep. That's why the episode title rings in with a CLANG and see you can something leaving the atmosphere in the sky in the previous cut.
Again, Enokido is the best writer Gainax ever had and they squandered him.
Damn, I need to rewatch this. The animation is fucking sweet.
muh dick. Every single time.
BRUUES DRIVE MONSTAAA
So many great girls, but only one true best girl.
So, we cna all agree that crazy sunshine is the best song right?
Nah, Little Busters was
Sorry, no. I'm going to have to go with Hybrid Rainbow.
See you space pirate
And best song is Last Dinosaur
This right here. Last Dinosaur is 10/10 best song. Special Mention for Ride on Shooting Star for ED, good way to come down after a crazy episode.
Every time I watch FLCL, I self-insert as Haruko.
I self-insert as Mamimi because I'm poor too. And like to molest little boys.
I can only self insert as Naota. I think it would be interesting to be able to self insert as Haruko though because she's cool and she's my waifu.
Then, am I your waifu?
Am I you're waifu: The anon love story.
Don't forget the climax.
I've only self-inserted as Naota, as I was around his age the first time I watched FLCL and the whole embarrassment/older girls theme really spoke to me.
Last time I watched it, I couldn't even tell who I related to the most. I just related to everyone.
Come over here and say that, motherfucker.
>not posting the animated version
I really fucking loved this show. I feel like it helped me to grow up when I saw it as a 13 year old, so that I didn't become a manchild. It's too bad the Blu-ray was just shitty upscale
Oh yeah? How many chicks did you get it on with?
Blues Drive Monster.
But crazy sunshine is one of my faves too.
>Again, Enokido is the best writer Gainax ever had and they squandered him.
Wait,Yoji Enokido was a writer in this? I had no idea. Why do you think they squandered him?
Fuck. I really need to rewatch this show.
I swear every time I rewatch it I always pick up on some new theme or tidbit of plot. This show keeps on giving.
Haruko was a great villain.
It never gets old.
I'm not sure what it is about that woman exactly but she has a very punchable face.
That's a woman?
That really re-sparked my love for the series when I detected that.
There's a giant space opera going on and Naota is oblivious to all of it.
Never seen this before, is it promo material for episode 3? If you got more official artwork, post it!
It's kind of a cooly cooly dream thing!
There's an artbook on bakabt.
Haha oh man I had to rewatch the Daicon IV video because of that. Sad how it still puts most modern animation to shame.
If any anons haven't seen it yet, treat yourself:
(starts around 2:00 and looks slightly better not fullscreen)
IT'S EITHER REAL OR ITS A DREAM THERE'S NOTHING THAT IS INBETWEEN
Gotta love ELO
This show is probably one of the most if not the most overrated shows ever.
Also the voice acting is one of the worst things I have ever heard. Its horrible
I dont care what shitty opinions you have about the show but if you think the voice acting is anything but terrible then you are actually wrong.
time to rewatch the series. Fuk youn faggot for doing me this
Don't worry, I just skipped right to episode 4 and I'm gonna finish from there.
>skipped right to episode 4
>Not rewatching the whole series in one sitting.
I wanted to see that first. I'll watch 1-3 after.
I'm not sure how to even judge the quality of Japanese voice acting.
1. Random visual gag shit without substance
2. Shit taste
3. I don't know that one
It's like the anime equivalent of The Big Lebowski.
I can just keep watching it over and over, and I still find myself smiling on every replay.
Same here, I feel like Western voice actors are much better in comedy roles, like Baccano.
JUST ON THE BORDER OF YOUR WAKING MIND
THERE LIES ANOTHER TIME
WHERE DARKNESS AND LIGHT ARE ONE
One of the best album intros of all time.
>WTF did i just watch ?
Gainax's way of cheering up their staff after they finished EoE.
Every time I watch FLCL, I self-insert as grandpa.
Especially when he drowns in his plate of curry. That bit really hit home for me.
But anon the English voice acting is great.
The only shows with a superior english dub are Stand Alone Complex and Baccano.
It is known.
>but muh blum did such a good spike!
He did a pretty good spike, but on the whole Bebop's dub isn't as natural.
What about FMA's dub?
>Bebop's dub isn't as natural.
Are you joking? The pacing of the dialog in Stand Alone is pretty bad at times with horrific run on sentences and awkward pauses. And Baccano! while I can appreciate they tried with some accents, they really were just awful attempts. Bebop dub sounded far more natural compared to either of those shows.
Like Bebop: Some good casting of main characters, but overall, you notice that it's dubbed a little too often to cal it on par with the original. Still, it's one of the better ones.
>The pacing of the dialog in Stand Alone is pretty bad at times with horrific run on sentences and awkward pauses
I really don't think so. Most of what you're noticing is lent by the excessively wordy script, but the voice performances are just as good (and I'd say better) by the english cast than the japanese. The excess effort was probably put into place from the start, knowing it was a rare show with a far greater focus on dialogue than action. Casting decisions in SAC were genius, and I personally feel hold many of the definitive roles for the actors involved, which is especially true of Richard Epcar's performance as Batou.
Don't get me wrong, I liked some of the English VAs for SAC as well. Doesn't change the fact that it just didn't sound natural.
I gotta disagree, at no point did I ever notice the dubbing, I'd call it fantastic.
>Doesn't change the fact that it just didn't sound natural.
I thought it did. I believe your issues are really coming in from the extremely detailed script, and those marks of long timing are present in the Japanese version just as much.
I really like One Life.
>you notice that it's dubbed
I think a big part of this is which one you saw first, dub or sub. Whichever voice you hear first is what you attach to the characters in your mind, so anything else feels off even if the VA is spectacular.
>I believe your issues are really coming in from the extremely detailed script, and those marks of long timing are present in the Japanese version just as much.
That doesn't really invalidate what I said though. It just means you can blame the script writers more so than the VAs for making the dialog so clumsy in the show. I didn't say anything about the Japanese version either, but really since I don't speak Japanese I probably wouldn't be able to judge it as well as I would English.
AND THE ROCKETS RED GLARE, THE BOMBS BURSTING IN AIR.
I suppose we differ there, being that I didn't find the dialogue clumsy, really. I thought it was imperfect, but humanly so, and overall really well implemented.
I was just watching the first episode last night because I was sorting my collection. I have to say that I feel like the dub is superior to the sub. The acting is great and I like some of the English VAs more.
Is this show any good or is it just crazy? I remember a couple of episodes on Adult Swim back years ago and I had no idea what the fuck was going on.
If you want to understand the plot of FLCL, watch the series from beginning to end, and you won't want to anymore.
You probably wouldn't understand the plot even after watching the whole thing.
>Is this show any good or is it just crazy?
It is good and it is crazy. The plot is simple but told so haphazardly that you need to rewatch it a few times before grasping all the details.
