What the fuck? I just got finished watching this piece of shit, after hearing you guys talk about how sad and depressing it was. What was supposed to be sad about this? Did I miss something?
the girl moves on, the guy doesnt, qt surfer girl gets owned for a girl that never was
Yeah, it was pretty shitty
Its supposed to be sad for normalfags, not us.
It was pretty though.
this is why you don't listen to /a/, baka
you only watch it for the wallpapers
It shows how loveless, fickle and sometime cold hearted women are. As if love is just a past time for them. Men never seem to get over it.
I loved the art and the music but the story was pretty boring.
Congratulations, you're too cool to have emotion or given its' proper name, 'autistic'.
If you want your medal, we don't send it to you - you make one yourself out of aluminum foil and wrapping paper.
Pretty much. The realization that the your oneitis doesn't give a shit about you anymore (if ever) is what's supposed to be the sad part.
lost it at "likes: Green Day"
>Dem ellipses before STAYING UP ALL NIGHT
It looks nice
I'm pretty sure this is a troll OP, but just in case, I'll explain:
It's a morality tale about the importance of letting go.
Good work. You now have two options:
>Read the manga adaptation (Expanded story by Shinkai himself)
>Watch Children Who Chase Voices (And for little extra tidbits, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNCh3DWPkRg&list=PLna6vJeUWNl49GfqMSEQzt3FUvjr7s7yd&index=69)
Both are interesting responses to what was set up with 5cm.
Isn't women moving on and getting married a cultural thing in Japan (and possibly other cultures)?
ITSUDEMO SAGASHITE SHIMO
yes this. 10/10 can not be more true.
I'm going out on a bad post at this but
have you ever noticed that men usually take love loss harder and act more forlornly about it? Writing sad songs about it and drinking oneself stupid over it?
Women only seem to write about being scorned and taking out vengeance or taking love as a past time not caring who they hurt. And the fickleness is what gets me.
Just my observation.
It was only sad if you were a normalfag who could self-insert with the MC. Other wise, it's only good for it's wallpapers.
To me it's not really a love story. The guy finds his life empty and meaningless regardless of that chick who leaves him.
In my mind, he's either gonna struggle to be an astronaut or off himself
Men kill themselves over love. Drink themselves to death over love. How many women do you often hear about doing this? Most of the time you hear about them quickly moving on to someone else.
You guys seriously need to read the manga adaptation and see what the real message is.
Are you me?
Not reading Cinquemila Chilometri al Secondo instead.
DOKKA NI KIMI NO SUGATA O
I agree with this. Although the manga adaptation really just made me realize how much was missing from the film. If the film had everything the manga had, I think we'd have a lot less threads like this one.
I wasn't ready for all these feel... I should check out the manga
As a point of reference, the manga was released BEFORE the movie came out. Interestingly, the adaptation for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time had similar circumstances. Also, I blame Haruhi and Hirugashi for the lack of attention to manga adaptations.
Come back and tell us how it was, anon.
Wait, so should I watch or read this thing first?
The manga is an expanded story whose aesthetics draw heavily from your feelings from watching the anime, so watch then read while taking some time to let out your manly emotions here and there.
Will this have any affect on me if I already hate women?
Hard to say since in the manga they show how the women the MC was involved with have a reason to hate you back.
well do. I actually kind of regret watching this movie on the new years eve.... I was in a pretty shitty mood for several days
Men are irrational and emotional beings.
I feel like it's more about the fact that men acquiring partners isn't as devastating to humanity as women getting them. Could it be that women being able to get hitched easily creates a thing where men just hedge their bets on what they want most?
She didn't even recognize him. His whole life was ruined by her absence and she forgot entirely about him like he was nothing.
All we know is that she had a letter for him, they mutually stopped sending letters, and that she got married. We have absolutely no idea what was going on with her and what she went through.
Yeah, but to not even recognize someone you used to be close to? Ice cold.
That was years ago though. People change a lot over time.
Gr8 b8 m8
It's sad because it's the story of someone not moving on with his life and it tolling down on him until it breaks.
We see how he slowly loses focus and the distance between his first love becomes bigger and bigger. And rather than actually move on, he keeps looking at the sky and hoping.
This is why we get to see this from the point of view from a girl who has a crush on him. Even though she obviously cares about him, he doesn't notice it.
At the end, when his life is tumbling down, we see a metaphorical image of the girl and the train cutting off his relationship for good with her.
This is why we don't see the girl after the train passes.
In the manga, the guy hooks up with the other girl and all is good.
It's a nice story.
What really makes people cry is that goddamn song and montage.
And the credit scene piano.
>In the manga, the guy hooks up with the other girl
The surfer girl or the office lady?
>Not recognizing someone
Breaks up with the office lady (and a plethora of other women) and it's implied that the surfer girl eventually comes around.
>it's implied that the surfer girl eventually comes around.
This is all I ever needed to hear.
This thread is the most autistic shit I've seen this year
You should have seen the waifu religious thread yesterday - an underage went MAXIMUM EUPHORIA.
Speaking of the song, some kind tripfag posted this album several years ago. Thought I'd reupload for anyone interested. It's one of my favorites.
Eminence Symphony Orchestra - Makoto Shinkai Works Image Album "Promise"
>Some incredible re-imaginations of music from Makoto's music like:Voices of a Distant Star, She and her Cat and 5cm per second.
actually she did remember- she checked every day. the day they crossed paths was the same day she swore to stop hurting herself by looking. on that day, she was certain- but her resolve was strong. "not this time" she said- "I have to stop".....but they both decided to, once again, let the opportunity fade away from them.
Why do we have this thread every single day? I bet tomorrow the same thread appears, can we just treat these threads the same as we treat request threads? Please?
I wonder how the original artist feels about this being posted all over. I mean, he has to have seen it at one point; unless, he still spends all day on DeviantArt.
Taken another way, he's more culturally significant than many other artists who work years for it.
Why didn't he just Facebook her?
The Place Promised In Our Early Days was way better
>The guy finds his life empty and meaningless regardless of that chick who leaves him.
But he was finding it shitty only because he lost Akari.
