Is Rurouni Kenshin one of the first shows to use J-pop/J-Rock in their openings and endings? I'm no expert but back then comparing them to other anime OP and endings at the time, there was a difference of style.
>Is Rurouni Kenshin one of the first shows to use J-pop/J-Rock in their openings and endings
Of course not. Anime didn't start in the 90s.
No, it was Urusei Yatsura, I doubt it was the absolute first, but anything before was so few it isn't worth mentioning.
Rurouni Kenshin general then?
The new Kenshin live action looks like it will be awesome
Eh never cared to much for those
Are you being ironic?
Are you being erotic?
Are you being iconic?
Are you being exotic?
Are you being moronic?
>Was ____ the first ____?
>No, it was Urusei Yatsura
This is the answer every time. Seriously, western anime fans have no idea how much this series changed the industry, it's sad really.
Yes,this is the answer I was looking for.Thanks.
I'm ashamed to say that I watched it years, years ago and I had no idea. How was the industry back then? Despite having watched many anime from the 80's when I was little, the question didn't come ti me until recently. It's obvious that it must have been quite different back then, but I would like to know details.
Bumping for more Ruroken in the meantime.
Misao and Megumi are best girls.
Are you being?
I hate you all.
are you being Quixotic
>34 tankoubon or 195 episodes + movies and OVAs
Damn, how do I approach this?
so while we're having a Kenshin thread I want to ask.
I finally read the Jinchu arc. Why do want this animated? this was awful. I know the filler end portion of the anime wasn't A material either but it also didn't go full Liefeld, I mean I know Watsuki's a huge westaboo but holy shit
the Jinchu villains where just terrible. Well the puppeteer was kind of cool but most of them where just cunts who where pissed when Kenshin beat them up for being cunts.
Also this? full retard
I will never get tired of the anime OST
Noriyuki Asakura is fantastic in this.
So should I watch it or read it, I liked Ranma
>New Kyoto OVA
>somebody amplifying his nerves power is stupid
>A guy with a machine gun doesn't fit
>but the guy who can set himself on fire and be fine, guy who flies, 20 foot tall human with spike head, 40 foot tall human, guy who can hypnotize his body to be harder than steel are all fine though.
The revenge arc was my fav though
most of those guys at least had interesting personalities or served as growth for the side characters development.
Henya for example served to really give Yahiko a sense of progression.
Pretty much all the jinchu villains where
Sobakasu is now playing in your head
I'm not really an expert on the anime industry of the 80's or anything, but I do know that Urusei Yatsura was really revolutionary. Lum being the first waifu, starting the harem sub-genre, being the spiritual forebearer to modern high school romcoms, giving birth to many of the common tropes and character archetypes seen today, et cetera.
Watch the anime, OVAs and movies first. The t.v. series is generally considered better than the manga.
That was the point. Watsuki felt that he made the Juppongatana too sympathetic so he wanted to make a band of villains that were completely unlikeable and just scum through and through to contrast.
that's fine, Jinnai Udo was completely unsympathetic and even a few members of the Juppongatana where outright monsters like Usui who garnered more pity than sympathy
the problem is they just weren't terribly interesting. Hell the big fight near the end was just a bunch of throwaway goons who where dispatched as quietly as they where introduced
Yeah, in his little afterwords in the volume versions Watsuki flat-out admits that they were made up on the spot to give the rest of the gang somebody to fight in the last arc. He talks a lot about his other ideas for the Jinchuu arc and some of them sound way better than what we actually got. For instance, in one of them Enishi would pull a reverse-Shishio on Kenshin and work his way through all of Kenshin's friends, beating them one by one, and by the time he reached Kenshin would be so exhausted he had to ditch his original plan to kill him and go for Kaoru. I'd way prefer that one.
I feel like a lot of people would think poorly of UY because of a poor understanding of what the shape of anime was in the 1980s.
now Im just posting Misao because I find her absolutely delightful
Pretty sure this is though
I have hard time accepting the coincidental appearance of Tomoes father.
truth told I think all of that stuff was best left unsaid. Trust and Betrayal was a pretty good little ova but I don't think we really needed to see that story
I was a dubfag as a kid for this show. Really wish there was a full version of Freckles released. Nothing gets my nostalgia engines going like watching that first opening.
It's funny how good Rurouni Kenshin ended up being considering that Watsuki unapologetically ripped off of one thing or another to create pretty much everything
I also didn't like how it slowly morphed from a period drama to generic powerlevel shonen shit. I think if he had kept going any longer then everyone's overall impression of it would've been much worse.
I wouldn't really say he ripped it off. You can see the inspirations sure, Jinnai is totally Gambit but character wise they couldn't be anymore different
Except he says that he did in the afterwords. Tomoe was Ayanami Rei, Hiko Seijuro's look was taken from Spawn, etc. There are almost no original ideas in his characters.
man I wish I had my old hard drive. Had whole websites worth of Kenshin pics. Also YuYu Hakusho.
>Tomoe was Ayanami Rei, Hiko Seijuro's look was taken from Spawn, etc. There are almost no original ideas in his characters.
It's a matter of execution. Hiko has the Spawn cape but he's not Spawn. It's fine to take inspiration however strongly so long as you write the characters uniquely.
that's the difference between a inspiration/homage and a full ripoff.
He always said what the characters were supposed to reference, and sometimes he even said people wrote him letters telling he drew a character too much like someone else - IIRC, the girl who was Anji's (the monk) friend, people wrote to him saying she looked like Kyo Kusanagi.
Jin-e is Gambit.
Akamatsu is Omega Red (even down to the name, Aka = Red, Matsu = Final).
Houji = Forge
Misao's first appearance mimics Nakoruru's intro in Samurai Shodown. Ironically, Watsuki ended up designing (and later, being a reference) to some of SNK's works. The Shinsengumi guy in Last Blade 2 (Washizuka?) is based on Saitou.
To be fair, Tomoe had the personality of a brick
well to be fairer I doubt he originally intended her to do anything. Really all she did was be pretty and die
hey at least he's honest about it. Most wouldn't even confess to taking SOME inspiration.
you tell Watsuki he ripped off X-men and he'll reply with "I know aren't they cool"
best villain end
I wish you had it too.
Tomoe isn't even based on Ayami Rei, like at all. I read the takobon and he says he wanted Tomoe to be Rei in the aspect of her "cool beauty". He didn't intend for Tomoe to be like Rei or be based off her but wanted her to give off a vibe of "cool beauty". His friends and editors laughed at his idea of "cool beauty"
Anyone got those redesigns Watsuki did?
I used to have Heart of the Sword on a constant loop via Winamp back in the day
Shisho is a great villain.
Wasn't Soujiro Seta based on Kaworu Nagisa design wise?
His personality is nothing like Kaworu's,though.
>That fuckin moment
Yumi set my standarts for woman, any fuckin dimension, so high its not even a joke.
I'll wait for you, at the edge of the hell.
especially when stop and realize he probably would have won had he not exploded spontaneously.
I don't think Kenshin would have taken him even if he was at full health
das some high resolution
got any more of the other characters
>MFW I realize it looks like unit 01
One of the great parts of RK
Kenshin didn't kill shit.
Shishio spontaneously combusted by himself.
How did you even?
Don't think so.
Did somebody asked for pic related?
Shit nigga, the memories.I was kinda the same but with Junjou na Kanjo
>not based on ayanami rei at all
it was a highly function-able and easily customizable media player. what's not to like
I think she was more supposed to be SamSho's Shiki. or Vice Versa. i forget
For me it was the start of that episode and this
>Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki
Don't know what are you guys talking about.
>Got his lover killed
>Fell in love with the murderer of her love
>And left a mark on her love
>An eternal mark
Its been ages since I've watched Eva but the above is something that is absolutely irrelevant to the Rei
>>Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki
you know Im a huge dubfag and that will never not sound absurd in english. Especially with how often they said it.
Kenshin was the first one where the band saw a large boost in popularity from the OP, which led to a lot more bands licensing songs to be used in OP/EDs.
>that will never not sound absurd in english
Haven't you encountered any Engrish in anime?
It is the same.
Urusei Yatsura wasn't even the first. But it might as well have been the prototype for all anime that followed.
I still think Lum no Love Song is one of the best Anime OP ever made.
I didn't much care for Jap Kenshin's voice. She was too quiet. Sounded like she was barely in speaking into the mic. Everyone else was about the same quality wise.
I never sensed any weakness on voice acting of RK.
>I didn't much care for Jap Kenshin's voice. She was too quiet.
>yelling the fuck all the time
I swear. I bet you're one of those idiots who hates any female playing a male character, including Megumi Ogata who has a deeper voice than most male seiyuu.
>I swear. I bet you're one of those idi
Im gonna stop you right there and offer some advice. When you ever use this phrase, it makes you a faggot. A massive one. Not helping matters is the fact that you seem to care so much about what language other people watch cartoons in, which has been absurd ever since multi channel audio tracks where a thing
Jap Kenshin was at least memorable. You can recognize that voice from a mile away. The dub of that show was absolutely atrocious.
Welcome to 4chan buddy. Grounded, intelligent discussion ended here back in 2006-2007. All it sounds like you're doing is complaining that someone is picking on you and dodging his point.
the spanish subs where good though
I can recognize and still hear dub Kenshin today plain as day.
so, kinema ban ch 6 when? or where?
Because of how shit he was
I quite adamantly disagree.
HITEN MITSURUGI STYLE
RYU SOO-EE SEN
Goddammit, so that's where the KLK ED2 thing came from.
