Are there any animes similar to or inspired by classic western cartoons such as Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse? Off the top of my head, I can only think of Doraemon, Hello Kitty, and Alfred J. Kwak.

Also Doraemon/Hello Kitty General I guess

Is Hello Kitty like Japan's equivalent of Betty Boop or something?

According to Google, seems possible

I also find it sad many (most?) of the people who have seen these characters have never actually seen the original cartoons they appeared in

This looks interesting. What is it?

I always considered Doraemon to be Japan's equivalent to Mickey Mouse, but then again Mickey is apparently really popular over there as well so I could be wrong. Don't they even have a Doraemon Theme Park or something?
