As a belated Valentine's Day gift, js06 has given us not one, but two new translated Horizon chapters!

We sure are spoiled for being such a small fanbase, in a lot of ways.
Except in the sense of anime adaptions.
>>
>>102131171
I think it's pretty great that we're a small fanbase.

Horizon is pretty hard to get into, but once it sucked you in, there's no way out.
>>
>>102131312
I think we were bigger when the anime was airing, or at least it felt that way.

Well, the other day we get a nice complete thread, so once in a while...
>>
>>102130081
>“Pope, how many years have you been chancellor now? How about you forget about some of those older things?”
>“Sakai-sama, the captains other than ‘Musashi’ were added to Musashi during the great remodeling ten years ago, so we do not know what happened before that. …What did you do to them? Over.”
>Before answering “Shinagawa’s” question, >Sakai stared at Innocentius’s face and sighed again.
>“Well, it was just over twenty years ago, I think. Simply put, that stupid pope was plotting a major Catholic advance on Musashi. And yet the history recreation of that missionary work had supposedly ended when the anti-religion law was recreated as a result of the Shimabara Rebellion which we held an early recreation of fifty years ago.”
>“That’s what the Far East claimed, anyway,” said Innocentius slowly. “According to the Testament descriptions, the Shimabara Rebellion occurred about ten years ago during 1637. Holding the history recreation forty years early was a means of eliminating the Catholics before they could even begin work in the Far East. And that’s how the Far East brought about the anti-religion law that shouldn’t have existed at that point.” He took a breath. “The Matsudaira clan issued the anti-religion law in 1614. The advanced recreation moved that up by 15 years. I was merely attempting to compensate for what we lost in that time, but then you interfered.”
>Sakai nodded in response to Innocentius’s words. He brushed aside “Musashi’s” hand as she tapped his shoulder again and then he turned toward her.
>“ ‘Musashi’-san, do you understand now? He’s the type that can’t take a joke.”
>>
>>102130081
He's a beast.
>>
>>102130081
Well, this should show how history recreation really works by pure convenience.

No, even back while S2 was airing it was basically impossible for a thread to persist unless it was the day it aired or some days after when Crunchy released the translation.

>>
>>102134640
It wasn't exactly like that. We had a thread the day it was released that lasted like two days, then another one in Thursday when Crunchy released and usually we got another hype thread late in the week. We had like three threads a week and almost all of them completed.

It's going to be a while before I can hope to translate the Horizon content I'm reading now, so I might try writing up quick summaries of the chapters I read.

3-C Chapter 64:
After crossing the border from Hexagone Francaise to M.H.R.R., Toori's group leaves the unicorns behind and switches to a carriage drawn by headless horses.
In Magdeburg, Matsunaga gives P.A. Oda's demands for accepting Magdeburg's surrender, but Guericke rejects the offer.
Matsunaga says Musashi's plan would lead to his retirement and Masazumi invites him to Musashi after he retires.
Matsunaga says that would never work, but Masazumi leaves the invitation open.
Masazumi announces that Musashi is too weak to take on Hexagone Francaise or M.H.R.R., so they are going to Kantou.
In Kantou, they will bring Qing-Takeda, Satomi, Houjou, other Kantou nations, and possibly even Sviet Rus to their side to gather power.
She also announces plans to arm the Musashi to make it more powerful on its own.
Just as the negotiation is about to end, word arrives that Itsukushima has been broken in half and fallen from the sky and that Innocentius is missing.
Before leaving, Matsunaga announces that Hashiba has moved the Sack of Magdeburg up by a day, so it will begin in only two hours.
As Matsunaga and Suleiman leave, the M.H.R.R. Catholics cut off all divine transmissions to Magdeburg, but not before the Musashi group in Magdeburg receives word that the Musashi will take eight hours to arrive.

In the novel is even better.

>For an instant, Tadakatsu saw Motonobu lightly waving toward him. And so he opened his mouth.
>“Hey,” he said in a voice not even he could hear. “I never got my sake.”
>He felt a sudden presence to his left.
>He looked over and saw a woman.
>He knew her and had often enjoyed verbal exchanges resembling arguments with her.
>She held a filled sake cup toward him with a smile. He smiled bitterly back.
>“It’s still too soon for you to show up.”
>He took the cup.
>He could see the moons reflected in the cup.
>It’s just as he said, thought Tadakatsu.
>Long ago, he had drunk sake while viewing the moon with his friends.
>But this time, Tadakatsu took the jewel in his left hand and placed it in with the moons floating in the cup.
>This was what he could do now.
>“The finest elegance… Well, I actually don’t understand elegance enough to say for sure.”
>He brought the sake cup to his mouth.
>And he tasted blood. But then his consciousness suddenly cleared.
>He sighed and his vision cleared as well.
>He was there. He stood in an empty city with a wall of light pressure approaching.
>“…!?”
>He was holding his left hand up as if it held a sake cup. His fingertips held a bloody blue jewel.
>When he noticed that, Tadakatsu smiled and held it up into the sky.
>He held the jewel up alongside the two moons.
>“I remember laughing long ago after telling you this: Look, the moon was already cut in two,” he said. “And you answered: Are you proposing to me because you want us to be together?”
>Tadakatsu laughed. He laughed loudly. And as he looked at that blue jewel held up next to the moons, he mouthed her name.
>“We will never be apart again.”
>Immediately afterwards, his body, his voice, and the color of the jewel were swallowed up by the light.

The anime scene showing the Satomi clan is taken directly from something Yoshiyasu says happened.

I'm so glad there was next to no info in English regarding Owari no Chronicle before your translation, I wouldn't have been able to keep me from spoiling myself otherwise.
Doesn't mean I haven't kind of spoiled myself while looking through the illustrations, though.
>>
Is it just me or was the ending of volume 1-B for OnC kind of shitty. Like I thought they would negotiate with the factions of 1st gear but in the end it was just lets beat them up and take their concept cores by force (it has been awhile so I may have forgotten some details). Also, the fights weren't that interesting to me though I think that was more to do with my shitty reading comprehension than anything.

OnC for me truly shines when it comes to character interactions and negotiations as well as it's world building which is a given. Also, volume 2A was also kind of bland while volume 1A was a very enjoyable read for me. I guess what I'm trying to say is that OnC has not been as enjoyable as I would of like it to be.

Since I'm on this topic and to help break free from the constant circlejerks in these threads and have a bit of change in perspective for once, I ask you fellow anons the following question. What is something that you don't or didn't enjoy/like about any of Kawakami's works?
>>
>>102183553
Dude, 1st gear itself wanted a confrontation, at least a significant part of it.

Honestly, yeah, the end of 1-B was slightly lackluster, but that was mostly due to 1st-Gear's unwillingness to negotiate. I guess it would have been more interesting if you could have actually seen what was going on. Gutrune's appearance could also have been done better, honestly.

>What is something that you don't or didn't enjoy/like about any of Kawakami's works?
The fucking Horizon swimsuit designs. Jesus fuck Kawakami hold back a little.
>>
>>102183628
True that. Actually the fight was kind of appropriate given the context of the situation but Kawakami could of added in actual negotiation or had the leaders of first gear have some kind of discussion with the Levitation road post-fight to show that Low-Gear was willing comprise and make peace with the other gear while taking away their concept core but nope it just went to 'fuck it, here you go, you win' which is pretty aggressive and forceful which makes you wonder what's the whole point of Levitation road if you're going to forcefully take away other gear's concept without any compromise.

You know, they will probably get to 1st-Gear again later. Still, with Hagen down and the low numbers of 1st-Gear, they were kinda easy to deal with.

I think that one of the last volumes is actually a whole volume of negotiations.
>>
>>102183947
What leaders? Fasolt was in the peaceful faction, the Royal Palace was just put down early and the City faction lost Hagen (who really wanted to fight like the others member because of their pride). There wasn't really important to negotiate anymore, that's what 1st-Gear was about.
>>
>>102185746
I'm not trying to saying that 1B was complete shit. Heck, I enjoyed the first half of that volume but for me it just felt like it when downhill when the fight started (that's not to say it did not have its moments).

>>102185980
>What leaders?

Well I guess I'm referring to the royal place faction's and the city faction's leaders and so what if their leader are dead, they still had others who could represent their people such as Brunhild or Fafner since they are pretty high up in the hierarchy.

Anyhow, my point is that they didn't even try to come to some agreement with the factions (as I'm pretty sure there was something that the factions wanted other than to just kick UCAT's ass) post-war and if anything they just end up subjugating the people of first gear (though they did end up making some kind of deal/comprise with the peaceful faction which kind of breaks my argument a bit). Why go through the trouble of creating the Levitation road when you don't follow through with it and just forcibly take their concept cores which would be much quicker. Though hopefully >>102185874 and this issue is addressed later in the series.
>>
>>102183947
That was the whole point of 1st-Gear, they just had their pride, even back in the Concept War, so thats what they wanted. It is implied that there were negotiations after the fight, but Hagen's last stand and question to Sayama about if 1st-Gear was formidable enemy was the the true climax of 1st-Gear, to show a negotiation after that would only cheap it.

Also given Georgius a fight against a dragon was the most appropiate end I think.
>>
>>102186560
For me it was the other way around, I really enjoyed 1B end because of this >>102186597 and how nice some scenes were like Sayama's speech and he being serious for the first time. And I like gimmick fights, so Izumo vs. Fafner was pretty fun to read too.
>>
>>102186560

I recommend you reread 1B Chapter 20, for better understanding what Leviathan Road and Sayama stance really is. That's why he's willing to do same thing with 2nd Gear.

>>“Strength is a rudimentary form of language, Shinjou-kun. If you agree, you shake hands. If you disagree, you punch them. Even without words, that will convey your meaning. Even now, there are tribes living on the earth that use strength in their standard customs. Let me ask this instead: why must everything be resolved with words? Words are an aspect of civilization that humans did not initially have. They are a replacement for strength. Why is it necessary to resolve everything with them?”
>>“B-because they don’t harm you or your opponent,”
>>“Do you want to say you could not speak with Fasolt and his absurd arguments today, with that group from yesterday, or with the werewolf the day before yesterday? Do you want to say that you cannot fight them either?”
>>“Why is it they refuse to talk things out?”
>>“B-because…um…they have grudges that cannot be settled with words?”
>>“Yes. And so they refuse to sit at the negotiating table to talk things out. In other words, those who wish for peace can only speak with others who wish for a peaceful conclusion.
>>
>>102186597
>That was the whole point of 1st-Gear, they just had their pride

I guess if you say that way, it makes it a bit more understandable but it sounds a bit silly nevertheless.

>>102186786
>he being serious for the first time

If there is one thing I never understood from the novels it's fucken this. What is this dilemma about not being serious? What does that even mean? If he doesn't have to act serious that means the task was easy for him so what's the big deal? Or is this a roundabout way of saying that Sayama has confidence issues especially in relations to being able to preform his so-called villainous schemes in order to get things done and it's because of that he needs Shinjou as she likes to do the opposite of him and find a more peaceful solution and she is like the thing that helps him in terms of confident as they are both unsure of their ways of dealing with problems or am I completely wrong
>>
>>102187108
I recommend you to read 1B again looking at it thematically. Still yeah, 1st-Gear was kind of weak and silly, that's why the Concept War was like that for them.

>>I guess if you say that way, it makes it a bit more understandable but it sounds a bit silly nevertheless.

1st Gear lose their world without the fight. That's why they want to fight to prove, that they are not weaklings, who just accept anithing, that forced on them. What's so hard to understand here?
>>
>>102187108
The dilemma regarding Sayama's getting serious comes from the fact that he realizes that he lacks the morals and ethics to decide whether the things he does are necessary evils or not. He won't allow himself to do his worst unless Shinjou has acted as his conscience and made her judgement on the matter.

OnC 2A chapter 25, good grief was that a satisfying read.
>Shinjou spoke before she could try to oppose that thought.
>“Sadagiri.”
>She took a deep breath.
>“The name that cuts life from destiny.”
>…Why do I have this name? Cutting life from destiny makes it sound like…
>“I will probably bring an end to your life, Sayama-kun.”
>But his answer was different. “You are wrong, Shinjou-kun.” He smiled, brushed his hand through her hair, stroked her head, and spoke with strength in his tone.
>“I do not believe in destiny.
>So you are the person who cuts away the bonds of destiny, freeing my life.”

I have a question about the characters without limbs like Gin (without arms) and Miriam (that's prostrated in a wheelchair).
How they can have all that magitek but they can't make them grow again the limbs they don't have or cure whatever Miriam has?
>>
>>102199517
I don't know, bit it's said that Gin limbs are pretty expensive.
>>
>>102199517

Having highly advanced mechanics or even ways of manipulating gravity/dimensions doesn't automatically mean they can alter DNA or regenerate limbs.
>>
>>102199828
They got over this by using highly advanced prosthetics.
>>
>>102199828
Well, that's strange.
Anyway, automated dolls are able to age, reproduce or something?
Or, in other words, what can automated dolls do apart from logic thinking, gravity control, hive-mind (in the dolls connected to the doll Musashi)?
Do they all need a soul pearl to work or that's just a way to preserve the soul's life?
>>
>>102199517
The more advanced tech isn't exactly cheap. Gin was able to get robot arms because her family is very influential and Tomo was able to get one of her eyes exchanged with an artificial one because she's the shrine maiden of a big shrine, but Miriam probably doesn't have those resources or connections.
>>
>>102200035

They're just fancy robots. They require a soul gem to work, they can be mass produced (Musashi models for example) or created using someone as a base (Horizon, Kazuno).
>>
>>102200035
Those 'pearls' are essentially crystallized ether of a human soul(everything in the Horizonverse is made out of Ether), implanting them into a automaton gives the automaton characteristics of the human residing in the pearl.

No, automatons don't need those pearls to function.
>>
>>102200181
>>102200247
So which one is right?
>>
>>102200035
Automatons are mysterious even to the characters of GENESIS. Due to a Concept from the AHEAD era the metal in them has the capability to act like cells. I guess they're technically lifeforms, but they don't age or reproduce to my knowledge. (Beyond needing replacements.)
And I do think they need souls to operate, although the souls mostly work as OS:es.
I'm not 100% sure of any of this though.
>>
>>102200328
From Horizon V1A:
>I have heard that automated dolls are dolls which have a soul in their bodies.
>A doll won’t move by itself, but when souls that were able to absorb Ether, the power of the leylines, resided in dolls, they their set Drive systems and other similar mechanisms on.
So yeah, they're necessary.
>>
>>102200556
It would be pretty weird and uneconomical for each automaton to need a real human soul like Horizon or Kazuno, so can I assume there are mass-manufactured souls for most automatons?
>>
>>102200638
Exactly.

3-C Chapter 65 summary:
Toori's group continues on their way to Rudolf II.
As crossdressing Toori sleeps on Nate's shoulder, she detects her mother's scent on him, gets jealous, and rubs her own scent on him with her cheek.
Meanwhile, the Musashi will need to spend two hours letting the Magdeburg evacuees escape before the eight hour trip to Magdeburg, but Shirojiro finds a way to skip those two hours (and make some money in the process).
