I never knew that "Shinsengumi" is best translated as "Texas Rangers" before!
>how was I supposed to know it was shit?
That's pretty impressive, even for Funimation.
Apparently "chuunibyou" also means "self-conscious," OP.
Without Funimation I'd have never realized I learned Japanese wrong this whole time!
Why is this allowed?
Normalfag is 4chanshit nobody will understand, lets translate to real-lifer, bishoujo? leave untranslated.
>and we laughed all the way to the bank
Why is this shit ever allowed.
You get what you pay for (download). But no seriously texas ranger stuff? Holy shit.
Well, if you stream like a faggot, don't expect the best of subs, it's up to the website operator to decide which subs are best for streaming, and if they pick a shitty translation group to torrent from, you'll suffer. This is one of the greatest lessons for newshits who still stream. If you torrent, you can choose which one best suits your tastes as far as translations go, and can best avoid shitty sub groups like for instance, hadena, ACB subs, trollsubs, THOR-anime, and horriblesubs. Elitesubs and Coalgirls used to be good, but they're declining in quality as well. The lesson to learn is, is if you do stream, try to find the best subs possible for the stream you choose, otherwise, just torrent your shit and watch your anime according to the quality of the sub group working on it.
By the way, shinsengumi literally translates to - "Ones of the garden", "Ones of the rose garden" and "Protectors of the garden of roses"
It's torrented, and I only watched the Horriblesubs rip of the Funimation stream because it's the first one out and fuck waiting. I just wanted to share the horror.
That sounds pretty fucking gay
Meh, it's not THAT bad of a localization
I think calling them roughriders would have been more accurate though.
How is that my fault?
No, it's "newly selected squad", though I don't doubt that the rose garden stuff is some alternate kanji reading.
No it's not. It's "Ones of the garden". Wiki that shit.
Yeah. Texas Rangers are best known these days as a baseball team.
>If the leader of a unit is mortally wounded in a fight, all the members of the unit must fight and die on the spot.
>Even in a fight where the death toll is high, it is not allowed to retrieve the bodies of the dead, except the corpse of the leader of the unit.
They were hardcore gays
>The Shinsengumi (新選組 or 新撰組?, 'newly selected corps')
Read the entire wiki.
>Shinsengumi could be translated as "Newly Selected Corps" (Shinsen means "new chosen (ones)", while "gumi" translates as "group", "team", or "squad".)
I see nothing about "rose" or "garden" on the entire page.
Stop being retarded.
shinsengumi 【 新選組 ·新撰組 】 新選組撰 Kanji Details
(n) Shinsengumi; shogunate police and military force located in Kyoto and dedicated to suppressing anti-shogunate activities (Edo period)
>Homosexuality was discouraged within the Shinsengumi for the violent love triangles it often generated
It makes the reference even more fitting, and the texas rangers thing even more shitty, unless they're all homos.
outside of texas, yes
but in texas particularly dallas (where funimation and the texas rangers are based) everyone knows they're named for the actual texas rangers.
So it's not too hard to realize they might not have realized other people won't get it.
were they feudal japan's homeland security?
To be fair, they change that stuff to make it more understandable to non-japanese aware people. Should they? Probably not but whatever
>people dont know about Chuck Norris the series
you can get the fuck out
I apologize, I was thinking of the Oniwaban, not the shinsengumi
No, they were active for a relatively short period in Kyoto supporting the Shogunate and opposing the rebel patriots during the Meiji Revolution.
oniwabanshū aka Garden keepers were the shogunates "secret service" while the shinsengumi were more like a police force who opposed rebels
>they change that stuff to make it more understandable to non-japanese aware people
No, they don't.
I feel that Nou-rin is so bad I want to drop it but I've stuck it out thus far and I shoudl finish it.
Shinsengumi is kinda popular fujoshit thing over there, translating it to "jelly donuts" is unjustifiable when you leave bishoujo untranslated for no reason.
>getting paid for this shit
>paying for this shit
Drop this pile of horseshit like the first of the north star. It's nothing but one big cliche-fest circlejerk of bad jokes, fanservice, poor plot pacing, and transparent characters
Just drop it. The subs are so bad that it isn't even funny.
I dropped it by episode 4. I'm surprised you lasted this long.
There are other groups subbing it, you know.
Drop it, my mother told me to.
Yeah my backlog is starting accumulate. dropping.
been using Chihiro. was good 'nuf
There are so many cliches in this anime it's unreal. Just in the first episode there must have been like 15-20 cliches present within the first 10 minutes.
Why is she so perfect?
Worst subbed show of 2014 so far.
And i doubt (hope) no other show this year will be subbed worse than this.
>FUNi almost as good as Commie
Will buy the FUNi DVDs to support the anime industry.
At least it has subs. Tesagure! Bukatsu-mono Encore doesn't even get that luxury, and S1 was never finished.
