Would you refer Evangelion to someone who is just getting into anime /a/? Why or why not?
>>
I would, it's one of the best entry-level animes out there.

>animes

What would be a good exit-level for someone trying to get out of animes?
>>
>>102113778
Browse /a/. Actually talk. Never watch anime again, only complain about how bad they all are. Welcome to the next level.

I would say that Eva has one of the best storylines I've seen, if that is what you are looking for. If you are willing to watch a longer series, I would suggest Fullmetal Alchemist and then Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but Evangelion is never a bad choice.

I started out with NGE when a friend rec'd it to me and I think it was a good choice to start out with, I thought it was amazing despite knowing very little about anime at the time

Why you adopt a word into English, you don't retain the source language's rules for conjugation, subject verb agreement, gender agreement, etc. That would be literally insane. You would have to know every language any loan word came from in some detail to even use it. Instead, loan words just gain the same grammar rules as their nearest equilivilant in English. So, 'anime', in English, can be made plural as animes, just like ninjas or samurais or katanas.
>>
I'd say it's a good entry level watch, but an even better watch once someone becomes more knowledgeable about anime.

Yeah Fullmetal Alchemist is usually my go-to series when recommending anime for people new to the genre. It's overall really well done and does a good job at giving people a good feel at the strengths of anime. Eva is still my favorite series though. The world, characters, and storyline just fit together incredibly well in my opinion. Quite unlike anything else I've seen really.

To answer OP's question, I'd definitely recommend Eva to a newcomer. Just make sure they "get" it and point them in the right direction. I showed Eva to a shallow friend of mine and he couldn't see past Shinji's winpyness to the true strenghts of Eva.
>>
>>102113372
Yes. It's pretty much a gateway to more anime. If they say that Shinji is a pussy after finishing it then the world of serious anime is closed to them forever.
>>
>>102113372
I started with eva and although it took me a while to really get into anime after that it works

>>102115826
That sounds harsh but I agree.
>>
Eva question why did Gendo steal Cyclops' visors in Rebuild 3?
>>

because everyone hates scott summers

Really, it depends on the person. If you think they'd appreciate it, it shouldn't matter how much anime they have or haven't watched beforehand.
>>
No, because I have yet to watch it myself
>>
>>102113372
No, because it's shit.
>>

Welcome to the N.H.K

I think honestly that NGE's strengths lie very much within the subtext. If your buddy in question is a particularly insightful consumer of information, composition, etc., and is knowledgeable about psychology then I think they'd get much more out of it.

I just finished watching the 3 movies 1.1 through 3.3, and 3.3 kind of sucked. I don't lurk this board, normally, just wanted to post it and hear other people's opinions on it.

Definitely have them watch the original series, if anything, but for a starter anime I'd say it depends on what they already like. The question is like, "What's a good first movie for someone?" Well, do they like horror? Action? Sci-fi?
>>
>>102113778
You're here forever.
>>
>>102113372
I would refer boku no pico to you, OP, it's a brilliant classic.
>>
>>102113372
Eva is an anime you watch once, then watch again a year later and actually enjoy it. I would'nt make it their first series, more like the 8th or ninth
>>
Only if they had suffered a depression.
>>
I often rec it as a person's third or so anime
>>
>>102113778
Naruto
>>
No simply because someone who comes into anime for the first time won't understand the final parts of Eva, and will have an impression that most anime are like this, which isn't all true.

I'd say get into it as your 5th anime or something.
>>
>>102113372
Yeah, probably. But it'd be better if they watch at least one classic mecha show before hand considering it's a deconstruction
>>
Depends on the route they took to get into it, if they like mech or overall depressing type stuff, sure.
>>
>>102113372

No, because eva is an anime filled with religious symbolism and pseudo scientific bullshit.

It doesnt make any sense. The characters are stupid and tsundere
