Is it weird that I'm less offended by the word "weeaboo" than by the word "otaku"?
>>
"Weeb" has lost all meaning so no, it's not weird.
>>
はい。
>>
No, "Weeaboo" was a word made up by ADRTW as an insult to the kind of people who use it. Anyone who uses it non-sarcastically is an idiot making them the butt of their own intended insult.
>>
>>102096099
I hate when people use the words "otaku" "anime" and "manga". It's okay online, but when I'm around other people I just call them animation and comic books.
>>
>>102096317
>but when I'm around other people I just call them animation and comic books.

Pfffthahaha you sound like my old boss that was embarrassed to be in the "anime scene" and did everything he could to distance himself from it.
>>
Considering that nobody on 4chan uses the word "weeaboo" correctly anymore, it's not really surprising why you feel that way.

He sounds like a reasonable man, while you sound like a huge obnoxious faggot who shoves his shitty weird interests in everybody's face.
>>
I'll ironically use the word weeaboo to refer to myself online but I hate it when people outside Japan use the word otaku since 90% of the time they have no idea what they mean.
>>
>>102096317
The only time I wouldn't refer to it as anime or manga is if I'm talking with someone who doesn't know what that stuff is. But if you refer to it as animation to someone else who knows or watches anime then that's just you being retarded.
>>
Both are cancer and if you're any of them you need to kill yourself as soon as possible.
>>
>>102096672
He was also a /v/irgin that love spouting memes so no, he wasn't reasonable at all.

>Implying I even talk to people long enough to tell them my interests.
>>
I never talk to anybody about anime or manga or japan. I take this whole chinese cartoons shebang to my grave. And then some day my grandchildren will find their late grandpas old waifu chest.
>>
>>102096695
No, I'm referring to my interactions with people who don't know what that stuff is. I don't hide my enjoyment of manga and anime, but I don't run around telling everybody about it.

Otaku is an insult in Japan, but doesn't carry the same stigma in the west where people proudly claim themselves otaku. Kind of how you get nasty looks for saying nigger in the states, but people use it casually in Europe because it doesn't have the same history.

Otaku: Shit taste sub human scum that ruin sales of great niche anime/manga/games/etc.

Weeaboo: Likes mainstream entry level stuff and typically has no shame in public.

Me and people who agree with me: Strong, resilient, and weeps when low sales affect an anime/manga/game's future. We also can properly name flaws of our favorite media like a true fan instead of defending a particular media like an inane fan boy.
>>
Neither are offensive unless you're ashamed of your own hobbies.

>>102096304
Weeaboo was originally a 4chan wordfilter.
>>
>>102096982
>human scum that ruin sales
>weeps when low sales affect an anime/manga/game's future
>"Fucking moefags ruining muh animu by paying for it so companies make series that cater to their tastes instead of my pathetic leech preferences!"

Yeah, okay.
>>
>>102096982
>Otaku: Shit taste sub human scum that ruin sales of great niche anime/manga/games/etc.
You mean, the people who actually finance these things pretty much single-handedly.
>>
Did someone say weeaboo?

I think someone said weeaboo.
>>
>>102097189
You know I commend them for slowly adding more English subs in their BD sets more and more now.
>>
>>102097275
If more anime BD/DVD sets came with subtitles then it might encourage people to import that shit from Japan instead of buying it from local licensing companies. That'd probably do the industry a world of good.
>>
>>102096099
A professor once called me an otaku and I wanted to punch them in the face.

Weeaboo nowadays means anyone who's learning Japaneses so whatever
>>

>>
>>102096927
Actually, this is a SA comic. They pumped out lots of great OC until the site turned to shit for no reason at all.
>>
>>102096099
What about Wappanese? or did it get eaten up into weeaboo
>>
>>102096927
>>102097570

http://pbfcomics.com/

Did PBF start off as SA comics or something? I thought they weren't related.
>>
>>102097654
Yes, it started on SA.
>>
>>102097189
yeah but they finance shit
>>
>>102097634

I don't think people even say Wapanese anymore.
>>
>>102097744
If you don't use your own money, on anime on at least a comparable scale you have no right to complain.

PLZ LEAVE THREAD WAPANESE JERK

I almost miss those times until I take off the nostalgia goggles and realize how shitty they were.
>>
>>102097824
I import Bd's Ln's and manga but its not like I make any difference
>>
Why are they offensive? I can see two implications:

- Shit taste. Meaningless. Most normies would consider moe and seasonal anime shit compared to Miyazaki and Cowboy Bebop.

- Overdedication. If you think this is bad, you belong elsewhere. A balanced life is one of mediocrity. Obsessed people give us fansubs, art, and deeply informed opinions.
>>
>>102097403
Are the subtitles actually English or Engrish?
>>
weeaboo is white otaku don't know who coined that one
otaku was japanese anime fanatic/ hobbyist
fanatic is not a good word for a hobbyist
everyone on 4chan is white unless you attention whore your nationality
>>
Weeaboo: Term that is being used by otaku who know more shit than other otaku to other otaku.

Otaku: How normal world sees weeaboos.
>>
>>102096099
What happens if I'm an attractive otaku?
>>
Both words make people think, 'gross' but with different connotations.
>>
>>102097476
Story?
>>
>>102098518
I think you got those in the wrong order.
>>
>>102097492
It's originally from that comic, but acquired its current meaning as a 4chan wordfilter for "wapanese".

I don't know the reasoning, but my guess is that moot thought "wapanese" was being abused to mean "anything bad", so he replaced it with "weeaboo" which is some ambiguous evil in the comic.
>>
>>102098720
Then you are rare. Your social skills may or may not be bad enough to cancel out any value your attractiveness has though.
>>
>>102098827
I have good social skills and I keep my anime discussion on the internet.
>>
>>102096927
I've never understood this joke is it some reference to some word from SA? Help me out here I'd like to get a laugh out of this.
>>
>>102098987
Cool story brah.
>>
>>102097842
No they weren't, they were much better than what we have now.
>>
>>102096099
It's the other way around for me. Weeaboo is a 4chan insult on any board not /a/ or /jp/. Otaku is some self-ironic equivalent to nerd/geek in the West in the 90's, so I'm pretty inured to it.

>>
>>102099764
How was she even able to write this on a white board?
>>
>>102098128
If they're on an officially released BD/DVD they tend to be of high quality, if perhaps a bit formal, same with stuff like Kodansha's multilingual Japanese/English comics.
>>
>>102098819
Nah, weeaboo is being used amongst otaku to determinize hierarchy. For an example a 2hu loving otaku could call an anime loving otaku "weeaboo".
>>
>>102098155
Weeaboo comes from PBF, it was added as a wordfilter on 4chan for wapanese.
>>
>>102099640
They were shitty, but when you compare those times to now, they look great. That's because most people on 4chan are very jaded and they can't have fun. Don't think I am advocating off-topic posting or other shitty things but it would be nice if people lightened up a little.
>>
>>102096099
Funny, that reminds me of how /mlp/ ponyfags only get angry if you call them bronies.
Call them horsefuckers, ponyfaggots, etc, and they don't mind.
Call them bronies and they go berserk.

Seems to be the same concept. Perhaps people just got used to an insult to the point of irony, so a honest association with a fandom comes as an insult.
>>
when is moot going to wordfilter weeaboo to wuggabug
>>
>>102100800
>wuggabug
>not nippronk
>>
>>102101108
>not japojin
>>
>>102096695
I refer to it as Japanese animation until someone else starts referring to it as anime, because it's pointless to use a foreign word when there is no meaning the foreign word has that a word of your own language doesn't have.
>>
>>102100637
Because being a brony is far worse than just being a creepy nerd who watches children's cartoons, it's something beyond the event horizon of horse fucking.
>>
>>102101228
>not a zipperhead
