This anime was pretty fucking good, but it would have been even better without that obnoxious psuedo-paper filter shit. Why the fuck did they add that?
smelling battle > train >>>>>> wife > ship = abortion
Come on, let's talk about mononoke /a/
Would you go gay for the medicine seller?
I would go gay for that voice. Not so sure about the makeup and elf ears.
They tried to make it like some sort of bizarre ukiyo-e
>bitching about the filter and kusuriuri's fabulous makeup and ears
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Is there any other anime like mononoke?
I know about ayakashi, but is watching ayakashi worth it? Seems most people on /a/ didn't like it.
I don't fucking know why. I think it would have looked vastly better without the filter.
>better without the filter
Stop being stupid, that is part of the charm.
Yeah, well, I disagree
I didn't find it charming. More like annoying, distracting, and cumbersome
It's not as jarring as Gankutsuou's moving silhouette holes on static textures. That gave me a headache.
Ship obviously best arc. Nue a shit.
>implying ship arc was not shit
>implying Nue arc was not best arc
Ship arc was the best for the Wakamoto Norio fish.
But the aborted children arc was good too.
As a drawfag I can explain to you what it might look like without the textures. Try spotting the shading and highlights. The show is incredibly flat but the textures deceive you.
Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales is an anthology series. Three different short shows sharing a title and a horror theme but nothing else. Mononoke was a continuation of final show in the anthology. It's basically three more episode for you to watch.
One of my favorite anime of all time. Every arc was good. The whole show had great atmosphere to it, it reminded me of Ugestu Monogatari.
Watch the final arc of it since it basically ties into the Bakeneko arc in the main series. The characters are reused/reincarnated which makes it interesting.
It's one of my favourite series. I wish there were more series like it.
Does anyone want me to keep going? I have plenty of fan art to share.
Please do. It has some great fanart
I want to talk about the show though.
No problem. I'll try not to post so much that it overshadows the conversation.
Medicine Man is pretty hot.
Why is it so damn confusing/boring? Also I kept thinking it was set a really long time ago until the car episode, that kind of made me lose interest
What was confusing about it? Also, the show seems to span hundreds of years. It's implied the kusuriuri is some kind of timeless wandering ghost slayer.
It was pretty cool when I first caught on to that.
Oh really? That's pretty cool actually.
I really loved the art, but I think some of it was just so boring I couldn't really focus and I didn't understand what was happening
The Medicine Seller's a mononoke himself, isn't he?
well it's slow much of the time so I guess that's understandable, but I never found it boring
maybe a tiny bit of the first arc
The ending though, man
Stupid loyal cat
Yeah, I think so. It would make sense.
Fuckin loved this show, wish they made more.
But you got the wrong order.
smelling battle > wife > abortion > ship > train
I love them all though. And the filter was great.
He and Ginko would get along quite nicely
how come noone likes the bakeneko arc, the composition alone was consistently god-tier
it's at least my 3rd favorite arc
Could be. They don't divulge much about his past. I kinda got the impression the sword had something to do with why he doesn't age. Like it's keeping him alive until he wipes out every last mononoke or something.
>not liking the paper filter
I'm sorry but I think you have bad taste.
Is there any way at all I'll like this if I didn't like Mushishi?
The cat and the woman weren't even related
Well, anon, you're a tremendous faggot if you didn't like Mushishi.
I'd suggest a healthy dose of suicide first.
I just didn't find the lore very interesting, and I'm not a very spiritual person either.
Mainly because there wasnt much going on art wise. It was just plain train carriage with not a lot of wild colors (see: boat, DAMN that had some color) and certain parts of the story were not executed very well. Lots of drawn out scenes.
I still like the story itself, especially with the cat demon fight at the end.
Wife > Smelling > Ship > Abortion = Train = original Bakeneko
This was surprisingly hard to do, I really like all them arcs. The twist in the Smelling arc in particular caught me off guard.
What? You seem to missing the best aspects of Mushishi.
I'd say so, but it depends on your reason for disliking mushishi. Especially if it's because Mushishi's plot was too loose or something like that, then you definitely could still like mononoke.
I guess the art wasn't colorful yea, but like I said its composition was great. They were of course trying to make it a more modern setting so it's kind of understandable.
And yup, boat was my favorite arc.
Fucking plebe, the ship arc was great, I love how it had a very theatrical set design.
You mean like closeups?
Well, the episodes ARE divided by acts
yeah, well, you're a fag
I know, they pulled it off very nicely on all levels.
I always figured he was some sort of hybrid.
But it had some of the most fantastic visuals out of all the arcs? It's the one I tend to show people to convince them to watch the whole thing.
I liked all the arcs but the smelling battle was god-tier
>I would go gay for that voice
If the voice was one of the biggest draws for you (or you're a lonely housewife and/or who likes puns) I'd suggest watching this.
I knew I recognised the voice from this from somewhere else.
Lonely housewives don't browse /a/, anon
wife is the cat one right?
The cat one was last arc, the wife one was the wife one, then there was the boat one, the smell one, and the abortion one.
Wife was the one with the fox mask and the unappreciated wife.
Why is he so PRETTY
What a cutie.
TADA NO KUSURIURI DESU YO
To attract ghosts.
How well did this do in Japan rating and sells wise? All the artwork is fucking topnotch, so that give some sort of lead to how popular it was right?
I want more. It's probably the only anime I would want to erase my memory of so that I can watch it again.
It's kind of incredible how good the fanart is. I have something like 850 images and I'm really picky when it comes to quality. I think something about the show's visuals attracts great artists.
Smelling > Boat > Train > Abortion > Wife
Also, where is this paper filler people are talking about? I don't even remember it.
do you have a .rar
am i supposed to watch the bakeneko shit first? i think i tried before and i just got bored
I'm retarded aren't I?
yea sure, that works too
I could put one together. What would be the best place to upload it?
Also I should warn you that I'm pretty sure there are a few images out there that I've missed, and that my folder isn't super organized. It might even contain a couple duplicates I missed.
>Wife > Smelling
how the fuck can someone even think this
Use Visipics to check for duplicates.
>not using a custom written BASH script with md5sum to check for dupes
you need to step it up
Nah I'm pretty sure this will work just fine.
Oh wow, that's helpful. I had been doing it manually for a while. Thank you.
I've got it uploading to sendspace right now. It's split into two parts, about 250mb each. 7zip format is alright with everybody, right?
Oh, and one final thing I forgot to mention is that there's a couple lewd pictures included. Hopefully that doesn't bother anyone.
who voiced the mononoke sword anyway?
it was the creepiest voice I ever heard in anime...
I don't understand how people get bored during mystery shows. I'm always being roped into finding out what the problem is and the outcome.
Mononoke has the added bonus of getting peeks at the medicine seller's personality. Mysteries on mysteries in a mystery.
>medicine seller lewds
What can I say, he's pretty.
They're also about as impressive as the rest of the art.
holy shit man her legs are tiny
But the wife arc was amazing, anon. The japanase theather theme was very well done, as was what the fuck was going on coming together. And the fox mask dude was a pretty intriguing mononoke even if he wasn't actually one.
Not to say the Smelling arc wasn't amazing as well either, I just liked the Wife arc a bit more.
Is he fucking her or just sitting on her brushing her hair?
Also, thanks for the incoming rars.
fell in love with everything about this series. wakamoto villain was an unexpected surprise.
oh and the OP is so good, I have it as one of my alarm sounds.
would fund S2 kickstarter.
I think he's just brushing her hair.
About an hour or so ETA on the rars. I hope that's not too long. I'm not familiar with sendspace, so maybe they'll give me a link for the first half as soon as it's finished. I'll keep posting art in the meantime.
What's your biggest art folder of?
What if he has a hair fetish and is doing both?
Looks like it's Link, at just a little over 1,000 images. The quality of the art is nowhere near Mononoke's, though, and Mononoke's filesize is by far the largest at nearly 500mb. Tsuritama seems to be in third place.
I have a lot of other half finished folders, and a list of characters and shows I'd like to start folders for, but collecting fan art is a surprisingly time consuming hobby.
Screen of your folders?
Does your Mononoke folder include the tegaki posts about baby Medicine Seller? I'm looking at mine and I have some old screencaps I can post.
I loved this scene at the end.
Most of them are pretty bare at the moment.
I don't think so, since I'm not even sure what that is. I'd be interested in seeing it though.
An artist on tegaki did a series of drawings where Medicine Seller is a child learning to write and so on while his other self is his guardian/mentor. I posted them on /cm/ about four years ago so I'm not sure if they circulated - tegaki stuff get lost more easily.
That's some pretty gay taste anon.
I was going to try to bum some other rars off you if you had certain characters.
Yeah, I've got a thing for pretty guys. Sorry. You aren't missing out on much though, the Mononoke folder is really the only one I think is worth sharing.
These are really cute, thanks for sharing.
Just one more after this I think.
>the mentor ties his hair
Okay here we go. I hope these work for everyone.
Also, Visipics found one duplicate by the name of 8a71780479bd631b1db5df69b27f1560, so go ahead and delete that one if you like, whenever the download finishes.
if only it were this puck
Thank you for sharing it, anon.
No problem! Half the fun in having an art collection is through sharing.
Put whatever matched tegaki dimensions in a zip, probably some Wolflow got in there but hey, I'd Wolflow multiple times. It's old and fairly samey but there's some nice ones in there.
I even have a lesbian friend who admits that she would go straight for the Medicine Seller.
Some of these are really impressive. It's amazing what some people can do with a little program like tekagi.
The colour palettes definitely push people to try interesting schemes.
Thanks for making a Mononoke thread OP, it's a great show. I don't think there's been a spirit detective type like this in years.
Thank you for sharing, Anon! Means a lot! I can't wait to look through all of these....(and separate the lewds)..
make it a gzip file
I have to wait an hour and re-download. There's apparently a 300mb/hour limit, but since it's downloading in less than an hour...it's impossible to download.
I hope you enjoy it! And sorry about the lewds, I didn't expect to share the whole folder like this.
I'll try to remember that for next time. I don't know if this thread would be around long enough for me to re upload everything, plus it's getting a little late.
Each part is about 250mb. It won't let you download the first half, wait an hour, then grab the second half? Sorry if sendspace wasn't the best choice, I don't have lots of experience with public filehosts. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
I tried to download them both at the same time, totally my mistake. Still, thank you very much for going to all of the trouble.
I'll try again in an hour, but you should get to bed if you're tired. Thanks again!
What exactly is the medicine sellers motivation for helping people out anyway? He doesn't seem to have much respect for human life, in fact he sometimes comes off as borderline psychotic.
I hope that works out. I might stick around and bump with a few more pictures before going to sleep.
I think he puts ghosts to rest for its own sake, and helping people is just a bonus. He seems to like cats though.
but what is his own sake? was he cursed to do this? is he immortal and just does it for kicks? do the spirits make him more powerful?
It's his calling, his career but not for financial compensation. He believes that ayakashi are bad and so he does something about them, as to why he feels this way, we're not told. His motivations don't really matter, the show is about the supernatural and how he solve their stories.
Maybe he's taking pity on the mononoke. They're in a state of unrest, presumably for eternity, until he comes along and frees them from their torment.
It's been a while since I re watched everything, but I remember him saying something during the boat arc about how no matter where he goes the demonslayer will put him in situations where he'll run into mononoke.
That's fucking beautiful
That artist is fantastic with watercolor paints. They've done a bunch of Mononoke stuff.
ANO SORA NI
The people who complain about the paper filter are probably the same people who complain about Kino no Tabi's scanlines.
I'm very sorry, but how do I open these? I downloaded 7-zip just to do so, but it doesn't seem to be working.
If you right click part 001, and choose 'Extract to Kusuriuri\' under the 7zip tab, it should extract everything from both parts into one folder. Make sure you have both 001 and 002 downloaded though, as it needs all of the parts to extract.
ah, I was trying to open one when the other hadn't finished downloading, thankyou very much!
There all pretty good, personally I loved the everything about the artstyle.
I used HJ Split to join 001 and 002. Then used winrar to extract as usual.
what kind of budget did this show have? I mean on one side so many scenes have almost no animation in them, but it looks goddam fantastic and can animate well when it needs to.
no money but creativity
