I think OVA is ultimate form of anime.
With tv series, we have to deal with fillers, shit animation, censorship.
Movies have often decent animation, but there is simply not enough time to let plot and haracters develop.
And there is OVA, mixing what is best in both forms above.

Hellsing Ultimate was the only OVA I really enjoyed watching though. Most OVAs feel too long or too much like a side-track/story.
There's plenty of damn fine OVA's, my friend.
I saw all of Ruroni Kenshin but never actually saw the OVA, does it cover the main story or is it some side story shit?

2/3rds of it is a prequel to the series / manga and shows how Kenshin became what he was in those.
The last quarter is what happens after the series / manga.
It's well-regarded as being far better than anything else dealing with the character.
