Let's play a game /a/, I throw out a topic the next person adds something to it. The person after him expands further on the concept, we'll see what this snowballs into.

The topic:

Suppose you're making a steam punk anime, what do you add to it?

Steam and Punks

A man chooses...
>>
Make it about a GAR ex-soldier-turn-detective working for the goverment in a post war setting.

Give him a freaky steam-powered shotgun/revolver hybrid thing and go from there.
>>
>>10206766

It's the year 2044, oil is long gone and the poles are melting away. Faced with two gigantic crises civilization has backpedaled all the way to the 19th century.

In this broken world man has to revisit concepts he had thrown away long ago and make use of what little they have to work with. Enter a world where zeppelins roam the sky and two young inventors Hansel & Gretel seek to harness the power of a substance as ancient as the world itself and put it to use in new innovative ways, this is the story of the renaissance of steam.

I smell incest.

I love it.
>>
>>10206766

In the west people talk in fear of the corsairs of the clouds. A horrendous scourge as horrible & terrible as the vikings of old. Scorned by the rich, feared by the poor these are the tales of the Zeppelin Pirates.
>>
>>10206844

A post apocalyptic future that doesn't make you feel dreary & depressed, that's something I'd like to see.
>>
Steamed punks? Not in my bento.
>>
>>10206891

I liked the zeppelin ninjas better.
>>
>>10206948

Steam powered ninja pirates in zeppelins.
>>
A REDHEADED LOLI WITH STEAM POWERED PROSTHETIC LIMBS
>>
>>10206970

Hmm... steam powered shurikens used to assassinate targets from a distance.
>>
The story must take place in Germany.
>>
Bioshock: The anime.
>>
An old man in a crazy steam-powered wheelchair, filled with gadgets. Useless ones, that somehow work in almost every situation. Like a hot tea squirter.
>>
>>10207027

Nah, it should be Florida, nobody expects anime to take place in Florida.
>>
Crazy-as-fuck religious zealots that love fire and mechs.
>>
>>10207046

One condition though, the old man must not be a pervert. Why? Because almost every old man is a pervert in anime and I'd like to see something different for a change.

I'd make it exactly like this.
>>
>>10207075

How can a group that wages war on science be smart enough to make mechs?
>>
>mechs

No. Fuck no.
>>
>>10207087

Would help if you could give us a description as to what "this" is.
>>
>>10207089
Stole technology from someone else, added improvements to it to turn them into walking cathedrals with flamethrowers.
>>
all the above opinions are shit and more stale than steam punk itself.
>>
>>10207083

I heartily concur.
>>
I propose the inclusion of a one eyed pirate known as Artemis Noland.
>>
>>10207108

Make up a better one, then. Else your opinion in invalid, sir.
>>
>>10206998

Make her >>10207046's assistant. Like she's his grand-daughter/a limbless orphan whom he took pity on, and now stays by his side all silently like a bodyguard, because he rebuilt her.
WITH ROBOT HANDS
>>
>>10207093
Well, they don't have to be mechs. Cathedral Zeppelins and Airships work.

I just love seeing Science and Religion get mashed up into each other.
>>
>>10207126
Absolutely. Only writers and directors are allowed to say whether stuff is shit or not, amirite?
>>
>>10207095
I can't find a good copy past description and I'm too lazy to write one up. It's essentially a hard-boiled detective story set in a steam punk alternate future. It's a good read.
>>
>>10207126

Ok I will. Steam Punk is an old concept, don't copy it, adapt it. Move the technology forward to keep the analogy of world with technology only up to a certain point, but different, but don't stop at steam and clockwork, or motors, stop after that.

For example, do a setting with technology that's well on the way to electronics, but misses the internet for example, or computers. Or has computers but no microbiology.

If you've read "His Dark Materials", the first book world is an example of modern steam punk equivalent.
>>
>>10207083

I'd like to see a show from the point of view of the old mentor character, it'd be a nice change of pace from the plucky young lad who roams the land in search of a master.
>>
>>10207176
Sounds awesome.
>>
>>10207179

Thanks for the reading recommendation, was looking for a good book to pick up.
>>
>>10207179

I don't see how missing the internet leads to a steam punk world, maybe missing the atomic bomb would be a better idea. The world would a very different place if no one found out how to make nukes.
>>
>>10207190

Sorta like that 3 hour "Merlin" tv movie with Sam Neil?
>>
>>10207223

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_steampunk_works
You can also pick and choose from this list, if you're interested in steampunk, Anon. My particular favourites would be 'The Hungry City Chronicles' by Phillip Reeve. Post nuclear-war earth, towns and cities roaming about over the barren earth on rollers eating eachother. And waging war against people who wont 'convert'. It's awesome.
>>
>>10207252

Well that's part of the challenge.

Missing the internet for example and also most sorts of wide spread long range communication would probably lead to a setting where the world has same technlogy as now, but globalization doesn't exist, and technology is being produced locally in every country.

Which you could advance with strained international relations, iron curtain type countries, and all kind of shit, I dunno.
Better than just going for the 15 year old default
>>
>>10207263

Except this will be an anime, so the author will get to play around with clichés. For example, the typical tsundere sees him trying to sneak around a shed holding a cardboard box. She screams at him for being a pervert and snatches the box away only to find that the box is filled with expensive cigars.
>>
>>10207358

Yeah or he could just punch her in the face because he's freaked out by the unrealistic approach of a fabricated personality because jesus, do you actually like that?
>>
>>10207358

I hate tsunderes, so I like this.
>>
Music by Hans Zimmer.
>>
I'd like to see an anime make use of a Bose–Einstein condensate.
