Eva Q&A thread let's go. ITT: We ask anything about Neon Genesis Evangelion and get answers from top men.
I am confident I can answer just about anything you have to ask about Eva.
Asuka or Rei?
Why did they need Eva 01 and the spear of Longinuss to the 3I?
Why is Eva so shitty?
what does tang taste like?
I will archive this thread to read it after I finish eva
What did Keel Lorenz actually WANT?
ho is the best choice for Shinji?
What did Gendo say to Ritsuko
Why did the ancestral race start dying?
What is the difference between Seele's scnario and Shinji's scenario to the 3I?
Asuka you niggering nigger
Why doesn't /a/ just make a pastebin for, you know, frequently asked questions?
Are you also asking questions related to the Rebuild Movies?
Anyway, is Kaji already dead during 3.0?
At the end of episode 26 where exactlyis Shinji?
How does he get home?
What does he eat?
Was Rei his mom? Or a clone?
Was it all in his mind?
What's an Eva, isit a Freudian thing?
Is Shinji real?
Is there a bus to take Shinji home?
Scratch that, even if there was a bus WHERE THE FUCK WOULD SHINJI GO?
I mean, is this how you end a series?
Where does the series go from there?
The movie better sure as hell make up for this.
Its assumed but anything can happen
Anno-chan is my true waifu
Eva-01 contained the fruit of life (the soul of an Angel) and the fruit of knowledge (the soul of a human). Having both of them makes Eva-01 a God. I can go more in-depth on this if you'd like. The Spear of Longinus is an object that can collapse AT fields. By merging with the Spear, Eva-01's AT field could expand and collapse every AT field on earth.
To evolve humanity to a state where they would no longer require a physical form. Presumably this was because he required mechanical body parts to survive, and he saw this as a weakness.

>Anyway, is Kaji already dead during 3.0?
The original and rebuild series stories split apart pretty severely before his death in the original. So we pretty much can't say jack shit about his whereabouts until he turns up, dead or alive.
The line is intentionally silent because from Ritsuko's perspective (the silent line is shown being spoken from Ritsuko's perspective) it doesn't matter what he said. Everything he said to Ritsuko, she would interpret as a lie.
The outcome is the same, but the intentions are different. SEELE wanted to evolve humanity to a point where they would no longer require a physical form. Shinji just wanted everyone to be alone.
Too much effort.
Yes, but since they're not finished yet I can't really answer with 100% certainty. To answer your question, maybe.
More answers incoming.
I save all these threads for some reason, not knowing when I might need them.
1. He is still inside the sea of LCL, but in the process of leaving it and returning to the physical world.
2. He gets home by desiring the presence of other people in order to exist.
3. Rei was a clone of his mother containing the soul of Lilith.
4. It all actually happened, but parts of it were shown from inside his mind.
5. An Eva is a clone of Lilith/Adam with the soul of a human.
7. A metaphorical bus.
9. Some dank ass island in the middle of nowhere.
12. It did.
>Not recognizing the rant

In which way are Gendo's plans different from SEELE's? Would't he be able to meet Yui again by following SEELE's plans?
Also, Why did Yui decide to stay within Eva 01? Just so that aliens could one day learn that humans existed?
SEELE's plan is in direct opposition to Gendo's plan because by merging all life on Earth, Gendo & Yui would become the same entity. Gendo desires to interact with Yui again, not to merge with her.
Yui decided to stay inside Eva-01 so that even if all life eventually receded back into the sea of LCL or simply died out, she would exist as a monument that just one person decided to exist outside of it as an individual. It's not necessarily intended for aliens, it's sort of her declaration that existing inside the sea of LCL is the worst possible outcome.
Ok. Actually, that reminds me that I've never really understood how Gendo would do that. He had Adam, he also had Lilith. For some reason he also needed to get rid of the Lance (also don't get why). After merging with Rei/Lilith what would happen?
if everyone was kill then who was tang?
It's not really clear what he intended Rei to do once she merged with Adam & Lilith since Rei said "Nah fuck it imma help Shinji instead", but we do know the end goal would be reuniting him with Yui. He needed to get the Lance of out the picture because it could collapse AT fields, and it was vital to SEELE's plan to unite all life on earth in the sea of LCL.
If Unit 01 was built from Lillith, why does it still have a core? Why does it have such strength and the ability to regenerate?
Why is it functionally identical to the Adam based EVAs?
How come Rei II can pilot unit 00, when Rei I's soul is in it? I thought you could only pilot if your mother's soul was in it.
Even dead people turned into Tang. Asuka was killed before the HIP started, remember?
Who has bigger breasts, Rei or Asuka??
What is the Curse of EVA?
A metaphor for Japan's shit taste.
>I thought you could only pilot if your mother's soul was in it.
Why was Shinji more sexually attracted to Asuka than Misato?
How did Shinji live with Misato without masturbating to her every night?
Why does Shinji always ends up alone?
How did Seele's and Gendo's plan differ?
I guess to lose your humanity.
Asuka, Mari and Shinji are not human anymore. That's why Asuka refers to Willy as "Lilin" at the end of 3.0.
Being locked in a loli state in order to sell more figmas.
Also, being bitter enough to complain about eternal youth.
The cores are a design choice by Nerve for the purposes of science. When pilots get inserted into the core, their soul merges with the soul inside of the Eva. This is how pilots are able to control the Evas. All Evas have insane power and the ability to regenerate provided the soul inside the Eva is in control instead of the pilot.
It's functionally identical because Lilith & Adam are essentially functionally identical.
A pilot's ability to pilot an Eva is based on how compatible the pilot's soul is with the Eva's soul. A mother's soul is perfect because a mother is naturally compatible with their child. As for Rei 2's compatibility with Rei 1, that should be fairly obvious.
Asuka and Shinji are attracted to each other because of how similar they are. He was too busy jacking it to Asuka.
But anon, Shinji doesn't end up alone at all.
It's some Rebuild-only science shit that makes you not age. It probably has something to do with "being locked into how you envision your true self" or some shit like that.
having a 18-24 year old body for the rest of your life is really not that bad, but being on your puberty for the rest of your life? That doesn't sound so good...
Spending the rest of your life at under 5 feet? Not even immortality is worth that.
>"So I remember saying to Anno, "It's a robot story,
so let's make the lead character a boy." And just about that time, I
was watching the NHK [public TV channel] program "Brain and Heart"
and learned about the existence of the A10 nerve, and I told Anno
about the idea that popped into my head at that time. That was the
idea where "the dead mother is inside the robot, which is operated by
mental/psychical bonding with the child. "
It's less of a genetic/personality compatibility thing than it is giving birth to and bonding during early childhood.
A maternal bond is very different from, say the bond with your clone.
So it still doesn't make much sense how she can pilot 00
They need either Eva 01 or Lilith to generate the 3rd impact with the forbbiden fusion of adam and lilith. Actually, you can merge Any Angel with lilith or Eva 01. The spear of longinuss is just for ritual shit, something about A.T. field.
He wanted instrumentality but in EoE plans changed when Eva 02 and Eva 01 launched.
I think is I love U
Seele was planning on taking lilith and Eva 01 so gendo couldn't start his own instrumentality. The problem here was that shinji reached Eva 01 so they rushed everything and what changed everything was that rei merged with lilith merging the soul and body of Rei while giving the freedom of choice to Rei and for some reason Kaworu (maybe when he died being so closed something happened or it's rei showing something that would make shinji stop shouting and focus). So shinji was given the decition to continue with instrumentality or not.
I don't take that piece of shit cannon
26 is surreal EoE
The core is somewhat of a plothole as they drop it on the angels at mid-end of the series and the ablity to regenerate and the strenght comes from the compatibility between yui and shinji that asuka doesn't accept
The functionality is just moving and attacking which alla angels do.
I would say it is ritsuko's mother soul inside the eva, that is why there is such little compatibility with eva 00 and so the eva rejects the pilot. But any souls is compatible with an eva
It's the concept that your mother is the first person you interact with that makes a mother's soul perfect for an Eva unit, but isn't entirely required. Rei & Kaworu can theoretically pilot any Eva with 100% synchronization because they have the souls of Lilith & Adam respectively, but even without that knowledge Rei is able to pilot Unit-00 because of her natural compatibility with herself, something wouldn't be possible without her being a clone. Of course, this doesn't come without some hiccups, which we can see when Unit-00 goes out of control once Rei 2 & Rei 1 become aware of each other.
Gendo want to use it to reunite with Yui using instrumentality but it is unclear if that means all humanity is going to shit also. The manga makes it more clear as it says that he wants to become god or the equivalent to shinji god
Did Anno really self-insert into Shinji?
Did Anno hate Shinji?
Did he really want the audience to hate Shinji?
Also explains how she fucking cracked a thick window with just a punch.
I thought it was related to being in contact with the LCL. Since LCL is the physical essence of all life or something like that, it would be plausible that it makes people not physically age.
I think it makes more sense to say that Ritsuko's mother is inside Eva 00 as Eva 00 tries to attack Gendo when it goes berserker. And the hiccups could be she expressing herself but I agree both theories are plausible. Also, there is also a plothole as Rei should be able to pilot Eva 01 far better than Shinji as Yui's spirit is inside (and Rei is a clone of yui) and Eva 01 is made from lilith. So she should be even better than Kaworu as the only thing that Kaworu has with Eva 02 is that it is made from adam, but it has Kyoko's soul inside it. Maybe Yui rejected strongly any other than shinji but Yui's motives are a fucking mess.
LCL is the "soup of life" or what is theorised as the water that contained everything so that life could start in the water.
Don't try to make much sense of Rebuild 3.33. You will only make bigger the ruse
Yui's motives are very clear: protect Shinji and give control of the fate of the world to him. In fact out of the cast Yui has the most clarity of purpose and that drives the whole plot forward.
The most likely soul to be in Eva 00 is a part of Lilith's soul, salvaged from Rei-I after Naoko strangled her. The two biggest supports to this theory: when we see 00 going berserk, when she looks at Ritsuko she sees her with Dr Akagi's red hair, and obviously she would hold a grudge against her; she wasn't really rebelling agaisnt Gendo. And in Rei's introspection scenes she always sees that EXTREMELY CREEPY deformed little Rei, one time even muttering: "Who's that? Me? The me inside the Evangelion?"
Rei probably can't synch very well with 01 in part because of rejection from Yui once she met her son, but more probably because it doens't matter what flesh she's made of, it's the soul that matters and Yui doesn't feel any affinity towards Lilith. Kaworu, as the 17th and first angel, is an exception: he has bullshit-plot powers.
Actually canon coming from Anno external to the serie states that seele's plans were a bit more sinister: they wanted to trigger instrumentality only for themselves, become gods inside 01 (or possibly inside the Eva serie, each in a different one) and fuck everyone else. So no instrumentality for either Gendo or Yui. Gendo wanted something similar, but only for he and Yui.
That cannon is from the vydia which also talks about the ancestral race but it is not confirmed.
Gendo needed to get rid of the Lance because it is the one weapon that can be used to penetrate AT Fields and kill a being ascended to godhood.
His plan was to merge with Rei/Lilith, then have Rei guide Instrumentality according to his will, because he thought he had total dominion over Rei. What fucked him up is that Rei loved Shinji more than Gendo and rejected his plans. And he needed Adam because... idk, maybe because contact with the adam embryo was necessary to arouse Lilith from sleep? Maybe her body didn't have any energy and she needed Adam as a source. This is purely speculation though, personally I think Anno just decided that Gendo with an Adam embryo on hishand was cool.
rei, i dont think Asuka has a part soul of a god now does she?
Could you please give the the source of that, if you be so kind?
I would say that the rejection of the Eva and that Rei never gets any powerfull is from the fact that it is Naoko but I agree there is more evidence but the "Who's that me" is from the battle with armisael. But I that is already settled as not settled.
And now that I think about it, Yui did rejected the dummy plug but those were just vessles without the soul of Lilith. Kaworu bipassed the soul of Kyoko (asuka's mom) without problems so rei shouldn't have any problems wiith it. Also, if yui wants to protect shinji, why the fuck would she put him in the Eva? She should sycronize better with rei which is a clone of Yui and the fact that, again, she has fucking Lilith's soul in her body. And yui respects shinji's decisions so why would she forze him to fight with Zeruel? The manga explains everything far better and shows that Yui's motives are quite selfish and she wants shinji for herself.
So what's with Unit-01 Ascending to ''God'', I don't get it and I don't feel like rewatching it.
The same wiki states, in the page for the game, that Anno was heavily involved for the script and the Classified Information inside the game, so I think it should be considered as canon as it gets without being actually a part of TOS.
I decide to go with it because it makes sense. I don't care for the muh aliens plot, Angels really don't need their origin explained; but it's cool to have a little insight into what the fuck were Seele and Gendo actually doing.
>Seele's objectives are greatly expanded upon in the game Neon Genesis Evangelion 2. The Classified Information and the Seele ending of the game discuss a very different form of Instrumentality than seen in the series - Seele intend for Instrumentality to only be for their own council members. Rather than forming a sea of LCL, Seele wish to be merged inside an Evangelion unit with its own S² Engine, after destroying the Spear of Longinus. By placing their own souls within the body of a godlike being, and destroying the only weapon that can harm the body, they would effectively create an immortal God with human soul which would represent the pinnacle of human existence.
Just google Neon Genesis Evangelion 2 plot if you are not convinced
He was going to be used as a medium for 3rd impact, but BGR gave it the fruit of life + knowledge so he is an "immortal" being which can also think and have freedom
Yui rejected the dummy plug and wanted Shinji piloting her because that was the right battle for her to absorb the Fruit of Life, and she probably needed Shinji's power for that. Remember how she didn't reject it against Bardiel? Probably she didn't give a fuck in that instance because it wasn't important.
And are you kidding? Piloting an Eva IS Yui's way of keeping Shinji safe. Even in battle with the Angels the inside of an Eva is probably the most safe spot in the world - remember that no Angel has shown to be more than an annoyance to a properly rustled Eva... basically you are piloting a god. Besides, Yui didn't just want to mamoru Shinji: she wanted for him to grow enough to be ready to accept the fate of humanity, and that she tried to achieve through battle with the Angels. (She failed miserably because he was such a whiny faggot.)
As for similarities between Rei and Kaworu: there's no indication they have the same powers aside from both having a similar AT Field. Maybe Lilith cannot control Evangelions at all; or maybe Rei-III wasn't aware herself of the full extent of her powers.
01 ate Zeruel's Core - the "Fruit of Life" granting infine energy and an eternal body. With a human soul, she also possessed the "Fruit of Knowledge". That made her a complete and perfect being, fit to begin Instrumentality.
I believe I can shed some light on this subject. This is gonna be a long one so grab some popcorn. Lilith is the progenitor of mankind and has absolute control over human souls while Adam is the progenitor of Angels and has absolute control over Angel souls. So it stands to reason that by merging, you would create a being with absolute control over human & Angel souls. This doesn't seem terribly important until you realize the difference between a human soul and an Angel soul.
The human soul is something intangible that is composed of perspectives. Essentially, the soul is equivalent to identity, and identity is created by input from other humans. While humans may be physically weak in comparison to Angels, they are engrossed in their mental state and spiritualism. Humans exert intellectual power, thus they possess the Fruit of Knowledge.
The Angel soul is the complete polar opposite of the human soul. It is the core that each Angel possesses, and acts as their one weak point, as destroying the core will destroy the Angel's soul. Angels have little to no personality and interact with no other Angels because of this. They are incapable of experiencing emotion and are capable of existing entirely alone unlike humans who require the presence of other humans to exist. Because they lack emotions and their soul is a physical part of their body, the only thing that can determine their identity and set them apart from other Angels is their body, which is why each Angel is so wildly different from the others. Angels exert physical power, thus they possess the Fruit of Life.
Back to Lilith & Adam, by merging the two together, they are able to exert global influence both physically and mentally. On the subject of Eva-01, its core was completed when it absorbed Zeruel's S2 organ, allowing it to possess the soul of an Angel (the Fruit of Life) & Human (the Fruit of Knowledge) simultaneously.
what power? Rei has the SOUL OF AN ANGEL which could control perfectly eva 01. And you do have a point as it is implied that an eva is the safest place to be (they put comatose asuka in there) but that only applies whenever they are not in combat as in combat there were various situations where shinji almost died. And why would yui would make shinji experience all that shit just for a lesson? It seems very convoluted.
Have you read the manga? It explains it far better.
I hjave read the manga... A bit ago. Didn't like some of the rewrites; I consider the anime a more reliable source.
By "Shinji's power" I don't mean he has some sort of superpower. His power is just his high affinity with 01, due to the fact they re mother and son. I meant that it's likely Yui can't muster the strength to move 01 without the umbilical cable if she's not connected with Shinji.
As to why would she be an asshole to her son, that's kinda the point of Eva: because life hurts and often the people who love you and mean well hurt even more.
Honestly the best answer as to why Yui permits Shinjo to enter ombat with the Angels is because plot must happen.
Your confidence isn't enough.
>Shinjo to enter ombat with the Angels is because plot must happen
And because this was such a popular anime and it is confirmed that Anno changed his mind in almost every episode (sauce from asuka's voice actress) there are going to be some plotholes like in any other work that is meticulously analysed.
And re-read the manga now that it is over, all charcters are explained far better than in the series adn shinji is not a pussy ass all the time. The characters in general explain their motives to be assholes and Yui's motives are much more clear. The ending is very polarized but I think it was better.
Sometimes after Anno eats a large Mexican lunch, he pulls one out of his ass.
Yeah... I always mess that up. That damn orca always comes to my mind.
Explain what the fuck is going on in The End of Evangelion
What if Anno is working on the new End of Evangelion right now but he's waiting till the end of this year to announce it? What if it's released corresponding to significant dates in the original to achieve maximum deepness? And at the end of the year anyone who was following it could put it all together and would be the only to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes. For example, what if in 4.0 consensual sexual acts happened between Misato and Shinji? But that contradicts the original because it didn't happen. So if it's released at the time of it's happening, does it count as the latest source? If it's live it would be more believable right? I'm trying to think of the unseen as true but as soon as it's seen then it becomes something else. So the question is, What is left to be seen in the last of Evangelion that could be true about the original?
Why is it that Rebuild has decided to drastically lower the quality and perceived image of some characters, whilst bolstering others?
Who do you think is responsible on the team?
Shouldn't be be bolstering everything then?
>The ending is very polarized but I think it was better.
Jump off a cliff.
>O GOD THE MANGA KILLED MY DEEP ENDING IN THE BEACH OMG NOT MATURE ENOUGH
It was a satisfying ending and the best grill still won.
Great, someone who values an ending by what girl wins in the end.
I expected nothing more from someone who liked that shitty ending.
Seele grows concerned with Gendo's scheming and decides to kill everyone and secure Eva 01 for themselves, so they send in the Eva serie
While his staff stands heroically, Gendo fuses Adam with Rei so she can fuse with Lilith and trigger Third Impact accordign to his plans, Rei goes "no fuck you" and betrays him to reach Shinji
Meanwhile according to Seele's plans the Eva serie has captured 01 and is using her as a catalyst for the 3I
Giant ghostly Rei appears, takes control of the 3I only to give it back to a terrified Shinji, who has to make a decision regardign the fate of humanity
Initially he decides that being human causes everyone suffering so everyone is tang and their soulsstart flowing in the Black Moon in Lilith's hands
In a moment of introspection Shinji realizes that avoiding suffering has no point if you cease existing, so according to his will everyone who wishes to return to a human shape, can; their role fulfilled, Lilith and the Eva Serie die, the tanged humanity falls on Eart, as (presumably) does the Black Moon with every soul inside
Eva 01 endlessly wanders space, a powerless god with a human soul, as an eternal testimony to the existence of humanity
On Earth only Shinji and Asuka are shown as being strong willed enough to revert back to their human shapes. You'd think that meant they solved their neuroses through the whole mess but noooooo.
Okay so Shinji is all sorts of depressed because of his guilt over having killed Kaworu and because his identity is a product of the people around him. Meanwhile, SEELE begins the final phase of their plan to merge all life on earth into a sea of LCL. The JSDF assaults Nerv HQ under orders from SEELE as Gendo sets out to initiate the final phase of his own plan to reunite with Yui. Misato rescues Shinji and convinces him that he has to at least try to go on living, Gendo kills Ritsuko, and Rei decides to abandon Gendo in favor of Shinji. Asuka becomes aware of her mother's soul inside of Eva-02 and kicks some ass before dying. Rei merges with Lilith/Adam and acquires godlike powers. Shinji has a mental breakdown and Rei/Kaworu give him control over their godlike powers. Shinji decides everyone on Earth is better off being alone and merges all life on Earth into a sea of LCL just like SEELE wanted. Inside the sea of LCL all minds become one and Shinji begins an examination of himself. Through a combination of peering into another possible reality and recalling the memories of himself and others, Shinji decides that living with fear and pain is preferable to living comfortably and alone inside the sea of LCL. The ability to leave the sea of LCL is given to all life that still exists on Earth, and Shinji chokes Asuka in order to determine whether or not she desires his presence in her life. Asuka places her right hand on Shinji's cheek, signifying that Shinji is something she needs in order for Asuka to be herself. Shinji cries because that's some heavy shit and Asuka comments on how disgusting the two of them are. FIN.
>thinking it is only the grill ending I care
EoE was unecesarily sutile or just 2deep4u shit. And the ending didn't felt like any sort of closure and it left me with a bad taste. It is also laughable how people started analysing asuka's last words off a bad traduction (it is not How disgusting, it is I feel sick). I would have to agree that I personaly prefere closure over open endings but I still think this open ending was complete bullshit. And also, not giving information and make it hard to undestan it!=minimalistic plot or sutile plot. You can use these devices but it is stupid in a genre that the lore is very important to get what the fuck is happening. The manga has the same characters with well explained shit.
jesus dude, get some spellcheck going
No because Rei fags where the only ones that felt left out.
>we will never see gendo and fuyutsuki's wacky adventures abroad
>implying it's not better that way
I still wanted the other shit though
But the manga ending doesn't work. It's crap - merely having characters say it the final words without reaching the conclusion is pointless.
Even EoE, and NGE does it far better. The manga ending is a pure joke of shit writing.
What conlusion? It shows why shinji suffers and why he wants the world as it was before evenbetter than episode 26, he finally grows up and starts a new life with the only thing leaving open is that maybe shinji remembers it all or maybe not. Everything else was explained previously and all characters reached some sort of closure. EoE didn't reach a conclusion and it is just a crap 2deep4 you ending.
