I know things aren't how they used to be, but I think we shouldn't forget the fun we had back then. I found a folder full of old images from 2 years ago, some are still posted some aren't, so I thought I'd reformat them and upload them over the next couple days, so please enjoy if you can.
to listen and make sounds: http://dnsev.github.io/4cs/
if you wanted to use tags you would have to go out of your way to keep using oggchan, there is still the option if you want.
Reported for breaking the rules.
that readme can go fuck itself. Just let me install the god damned thing
the threads were full of people begging for instructions on how to get player to work, devs didn't need to go and add that though, I agree.
Well you could always grab the source from github I guess.
I miss these sounds threads. They were amazing.
yeah i know, people are fucking stupid, but damn. add a hidden link near the bottom to skip it or some shit.
It's supposed to help prevent people from asking stupid questions about it which happens in 90% of threads I've seen. Less posting maybe about them.
It takes less than 2 minutes, and if it was skippable, that would defeat the point of having to read it.
I went on the site the other day to grab a copy of the script for whatever reason, it was pretty bad having to wait, please find an alternative solution
What's going on guys
You can skip it using https://github.com/dnsev/4cs/tree/master/web
Maybe I'll put that information in the first-run popup that nobody reads either.
Thank >>100883593 for it existing
oh hey, we were just talking about you
stop proving the devs point
Since know one is saying it, fucking great ass thread OP, holy shit i missed these.
thanks, hopefully these threads will be able to go back to the way they were someday
If I have a bunch of the old square bracket tagged ones from way back when, would I be able to post them now, or would I need to reformat them?
wow this version of is pretty good
one can only hope
Last time I made a sound thread I got b& for 2 weeks ;_;
fuck off IRC
>Still using the IRC boogeyman as a scapegoat for anyone who doesn't like your shit
sorry about all the blanks, I spent a lot of time trying to sort everything, but without testing them all individually some still managed to slip through, most seem to be working though
What rule did the report say you broke?
Sound threads are against the rules. He's broken it several times and people still try to do this shit.
He even made youtube embedable so people would stop, but you faggots just keep going.
I don't want to jinx it, but I think were nearing the point where moot and the mods won't be able to touch us anymore, they gave on /q/ and each day they seem to care less and less about what goes on here.
>being this assmad at people sharing music
/r/ing yuno what it is
"embedding files" or some shit
this was on /v/ like 6 months ago though
this is pretty awesome
I honestly don't get why anyone would ever bring this up as an argument, youtube is a shit hole that holds you by the balls on what you can and can't have, I don't need that
>Being a faggot who insists on breaking the rules just to break the rules
They're too busy to banning people for posting TLR, Crime edge and foe posting spoilers in a S;G /r/ threads.
just enjoy the thread anon, I'm chill as fuck here and you look like you could use a little r&r
Oh how I missed this.
Time for your dose of despair.
No thanks, I'm too busy reporting people.
I don't think it existed back then, the original remilia and scarlet cd clip is on here somewhere though

You've never heard that before? Shit anon, I grabbed that song off the VIP from /f/ in like 2008.
>stuck with NISA's crap translation for SDR2 now.
That is despair.
anons are culturally deprived of good music, that is why we are here
Not for the faint of heart.
THAT. IS. BEATIFUL
youtube was embeddable long before sound threads were b&able you angry primate
Sound threads were NEVER allowed.
>reads through tags
I-I don't think I'm ready
>gif threads are okay tho
I guess you weren't here when they were posted almost daily then.
Good job showing how fucking new you are.
Holy shit video what is this black magic
Stop replying to shitposters.
They weren't allowed then either, but you faggots just kept posting them.
is this /v/ singing?
p-please use the other one, this is akarin's only time to shine in the spotlight, don't take it away from her
Holy shit, this is too good.
How the fuck do you install this piece of shit now?
I changed browser and when you click on "Install 4cs" it makes you go through 20 hours of useless bitching telling you to go to guide, in which is fucking nothing
Jesus the guy who made this is such a faggot
This new version of 4cs is seriously impressive. Hats off to the devs.
Holy shit it's been a long time.
/a/, you're always the best place for music.
source on these?
they might be touhou
ugh, I wish I had a pass... staying up for all these is rough.
I honestly never found out, I've must've listened to them a million times, after awhile just knowing them by the sound is enough.
Second one is 紅ノ館と紅ノ霧 by Tokyo Active NEETs.
First one is 弾幕注意報, same artist.
You got me good you bastard
First time in one of these threads. I knew exactly what remix that was going to be. This is where my life has taken me.
Wow since when is fullmotion video supported
Here, I've added additional dummy-proofing to the readme just for you:
Spoiler alert: you click the install link
Since VP8 (+ogg) being faaaaar better than .gif
>gif with embedded video
We are living in the future.
I know I've seen whatever that sound is from, but I just can't place it.
what a coicidence.jpg
What an annoying group of people that is from.
Oh dear god
Keep it /a/ related, please.
>He even made youtube embedable so people would stop, but you faggots just keep going.
I never really understood what moot had against 4chan Sounds. At one point he said he didn't like that it was "exclusionary" or something along those lines, but I'd have patched it into the site extension if that was the problem. And if it's about bandwidth, GIF threads take just as much. If it's about 4chan "not being YouTube" then I'm not sure why we have /f/.
Anyway, it's his site and I respect his decision, so I never updated my Sounds script to countermeasure his block. Not that I ever updated it after other people took it over, they're all much less lazy. It does make me glad to see this thread though.
Running out of /a/ ones, feel free contribute your own though.
I don't know why I hit spoiler, but there are reasons
/a/ is best, dumping a batch though so can't tell what's in each
By reading that screen cap that was poster earlier its not so much he doesn't like the sound threads, its just the fact they can be abused for stuff like cp. Rather than deal with the trouble he just said don't do it.
there are lot of duplicates now, make sure to double check before you post
I was waiting for this.
my dick is now diamonds, thanks, based anon
>We blocked archives when /lit/ started using embedded RARs to distribute books.
But we used to do that on /b/ every Thursday back in 2006. It was called lithursday and it was amazing. I'm pretty sure without those threads we never would have even had a /lit/.
>we don't want to support sound uploads
Most of /f/ is sound loops. I don't get it.
I know you're not moot and I'm just venting at the wind, but whatever.
Yep, that's the one rationale I've seen of his that I understand. And that's fine, but I'm pretty sure nobody ever hid CP in Sounds images.
Its more or less a prevent it before it happens thing from what I see. It hasn't been done but thats not to say It can't start.
>its just the fact they can be abused for stuff like cp.
That is a shit excuse since both gifs and regular pictures is just as risky in that sense. All moot has said is " I dun like it" without a concrete reason. And nobody is hurt by it.
It just doesn't really make sense since embedding a sound in an image, and another image just means you lower the quality of all of them. Also, weirdly enough people would make it obvious when they were embedding CP. They'd do stupid shit like post "Hey everyone, mods are asleep, post sinks!" at which point they'd have a giant thread filled with pictures of kitchen sinks. Aside from that, if someone is going to distribute CP the blocks he put into place aren't going to stop them.
Were he to do anything, it should be .webm files with the same restrictions as normal image uploads. Potentially disallow sound if he was really worried about sound copyright issues or something of the sort.
But .gif is a very dated image format at this point, and even VP8 provides many benefits over .gif, even without audio: file size, resolution, quality, duration, etc.
And it's not like .gif can't be exploited to post illegal content (CP or what have you) in the same manner as any video container. Trying to block it without truncating extra-data from images is just an endless game of cat and mouse. Even with extra-data removed, there are still ways.
No, I don't like sound threads because there's no fucking discussion going on, just people posting overly large files to listen to shit they could listen to on any music player, or youtube, or soundcloud, or whatever you want. It's just as bad "Hey /a/ my hard drive died so give me reaction images".
But he has given several reasons, plus there's the copyright issue that arises.
and before you say anything, mere images are fair right, and /t/orrents and /rs/ aren't actually hosted on 4chan so don't try to take that path
That guy was talking about why MOOT doesn't like these not you. No one gives two shits about you. Also what discussion happens on /a/ that is worth while? Its all "X is a shit" or "pleb choice".
The cp reason is not the best but its the only one that really makes sense. limiting the number of ways illegal content can be tied to the site is a higher priority than most "issues" that get thrown around.
People being stupid is inevitable. But keeping their stupid actions from impacting you is a smart idea.
I completely agree, I tossed that idea around on /g/, but I'm fairly sure that moot doesn't want WebM either. I'd love to see him auto-convert GIFs to WebM just so they'd load faster (and holy shit would they load faster).
>And it's not like .gif can't be exploited to post illegal content (CP or what have you) in the same manner as any video container.
Exactly, pic related is a classic example of GIF "abuse"
Is that one really abuse or a comedic bait and switch? Nothing illegal is going on or being exploited. Its like the rick roll of the gif world
Right, I wasn't saying it was illegal, just that it follows the same principle that could be used for illegal purposes.
>Gif matches the entire song
That's some magic right there.
>mere images are fair righ
And so are sounds as long you don't monetize it.
Moot banned them because they eat up bandwidth, they can be used to host illegal files, and copyright issues, and quite frankly it doesn't matter if you think it's a stupid rule. You don't get to choose which rules you obey and which you don't. That defeats the entire point of them. This is an imageboard, not an audioboard, and you people are going out of your way and jumping through hoops to achieve something which could be achieved in a much simpler way that doesn't violate the rules or eat up bandwidth, but you refuse because soundcloud and youtube are just the worst things.
"No discussion" is kind of a bad argument, since there are threads about things like "Favorite OP/ED/OST" which contain mainly Youtube links, image dump threads, etc. As far as my knowledge goes, these are not breaking rules.
It just demonstrates that certain threads have more actual discussion than others. I find "x best girl", "x a shit", or "who x here" threads to pretty dumb, but I simply ignore them.
Also, not all sounds files are as unimaginative as image+song. Some are a bit more interesting.
Then removing image extra-data would be the best course, but that comes with 2 problems: 1) increased CPU to remove it (or maybe not if they modify how thumbnail generation works), and 2) steganography still exists.
Encoding gif -> webm would increase CPU usage by a lot, also make images lossy (colors, transparency, etc.) so I can see why he wouldn't want that. If .webm was a built in feature, it'd make mods have an easier time finding bad content.
Anime comes at ~24.98 fps, all you have to do is import the video frames in photoshop via the usual virtualdub route and save with multiples of ~0.04s per frame depending upon how many frames you drop.
True making the thumbnail one thing but the rest of the gif something else is a possibility. But any porn gif that longer than a couple dick thrusts has the worst quality. Like a couple posts above have pointed out changing formats would fix this. Unfortunately something like this >>101990878 a 5 minute cp video would be easy to squeeze by even it it were to stay up for only 3 minutes before banning the poster.
Target your rage elsewhere. I'm aware that it's his rule, which is why I never countermeasured him when I maintained 4chan Sounds.
>eat up bandwidth
So are GIF threads banned then? And what about those two boards we have dedicated entirely to GIFs?
If they're under public domain.
It is a good argument, because /a/ for for the discussion of anime and manga, not for dumping this bullshit. Dump boards exist, see >>>/c/ >>>/e/ >>>/h/ and others. As for "X' a shit threads, those do actually generate discussion on why people dislike characters and shows, or like others.
Because as moot himself said, gifs are an acceptable use of bandwidth on an IMAGEBOARD.
>Because as moot himself said, gifs are an acceptable use of bandwidth on an IMAGEBOARD.
Again, then why do we have /f/?
Because it's slow as shit, hardly used, and mostly kept around because it's a piece of history.
Anyone knows sauce on this?
None of those points change the fact that it's used pretty much exclusively for sound loops like 4chan Sounds.
And that doesn't mean sound threads should be allowed just because you think you should choose what rules get followed
>on an IMAGEBOARD
As you so clearly emphasize, discussion does not seem to be a requirement. OP/ED/OST threads generate about the same amount of discussion as I've seen sound threads will. Mileage may vary, of course.
You have this weird habit of putting words into peoples' mouths. I will say it one last time, if I were trying to do that I would have countermeasured myself. I didn't. I was just trying to find a reason why they're blocked, and it's mostly irrational. You can defend irrationality, and that's fine, because it's moot's choice to be irrational. It's his site. But it's also silly.
We have /f/ for the two people on Earth whose browser does not crash with flash. Developers Apply yourself
And those don't eat up bandwidth because the posters don't feel like they're too cool for rules.
I don't get how the music doesn't lag on my shitty internet like everything else, even that complete fullmotion OP didn't lag, what is this magic?
Is there any way to extract the sound from the images?
You know, without having to post them, oggchan had an extracting tool which was pretty good and simple.
Because flash is really old technology and buffers rather than using your browser's resources directly.
When playing it in the player hover on the title and pres the S
Heh, I feel old now.
It buffers the entire image, crops out the sound, and converts that to a blob to be played. It shouldn't stutter because the entire audio stream is prebuffered by the time its playing. It also doesn't rely on Flash at all, which helps.
I used to have that feature in my script, which is obviously now broken. I don't know if they ever reimplemented it in the forks. You could crop out the audio manually.
So THAT'S where the Banjo.gif came from.
Yeah, once tey are on the board, read my post again.
You can drag files into the player without paying them afaik
Come on man, I'm trying to help you argue against our case. I'm pointing out that you not liking these threads is not the reason they're not allowed.
There are other reasons, just don't use "no discussion" as your reason it's not allowed if that reason doesn't apply to legal threads.
You'd have to look at how they're combining the two.
You could also use the dev tools in Firefox or Chrome to inspect the audio element, copy the blob URL, paste that into a new tab, and then hit Ctrl+S to save it as a .oga file.
I hope moot doesn't kill these again. I'll rebuild my folder tomorrow.
I'm glad to see this threads back up. I missed the fun we used to have till idiots started to upload fake soundimages and IRC started bitching about it. Inb4 scapegoat. They literally just shit the board with whatever they feel fit just because they really have nothing else to do.
Holy shit, I'm dying here man! I was not expecting that at all.
All you had to do was not reply yet look where we are now?
love you anon
All right, it seems the sound can be downloaded/extracted this way, didnt notice before, thanks anon!
you people need to finish reading a post before replying, I've already been through the faq.
They're still very real. Just did a search, they only changed their channel.
I like sounds. It makes me feel like I am in some exclusive treehouse club.
>I've already been through the faq.
>Q)How do I save images with sound?
>Q)How do I extract sounds from the images?
>Q)How can I play these back?
You must have missed it then.
No Homers allowed.
Neither of those tell me how can I extract them without using the script in the browser.
>I extract them without using the script
Nigg you dumdum
enlighten me, then.
How do you extract the sound?
You install the script then just click the "save" button in the media player. Bam you get the .ogg.
I believe both you and me said without using the script in the browser.
You never specified that. Most people want to extract/save from the player.
Drag files into player -> [D] -> All loaded sounds
That anon is talking about extracting them like after you saved the picture in your hard disk.
I did, over here >>101998930 , but I guess it's pretty far up now.
thanks anon, finally what I was looking for.
You specified without uploading, not without using the script.
That's what we got caught up on.
Okay, guess I was not clear on that, sorry.
remember those faucet threads and random household objects on /b/?
It's full of CP clips and archives.
Nofunpolice do it again.
Funny that sounds are deleted on popular boards but on somehwere like /wsg/ they have month old sound threads.
