Boy did this turn out to be good.
It reminds me of watching penguindrum: it's not perfect by any means, but it's very well made and manages to pull my strings.
Personally, i think the apocalypse episodes were the worst parts of the series.
Other than that, it has been consistenly entertaining.
So what's /a/ opinion on this show?
I stopped back when the threads were still called fishknee threads.
I was close to dropping it near the start but now its one of my favorite airing shows.
>dat setting made for complicated shipping
>dat character development
The OST is so god damn underrated, fuck.
It needs a release date like, yesterday.
best episodes so far: 7, 18
man, that atmosphere in 18
also dat pocky
So what I got from the episode 19 summary on the official website, is that Manaka is alive and well, and still asleep, despite losing her Ena. Hikari then talks to the sleeping Manaka, with Miuna secretly watching.
And when Chisaki visits Tsumugu’s grandfather, he tells her that Ojoshi’s story still continues. Or in other words, the Ofuneki thing still isn’t over.
I SENSE MORE DRAMA ENSUING.
I picked it up two days ago and caught up just now. I regret not watching it earlier. I really like the timeskip, but I think I just like timeskips in general.
Miuna and Sayu are adorable and Chisaki is a stupid bitch.
so what is uroko-sama?
and i wonder if the seagod setting will be explained eventually.
Depends on what/who Hikari and his sister are.
I like the Uroko is Hikari thing though.
(Translator's note: Uroko means scale)
>I like the Uroko is Hikari thing though.
I love Penguindrum, a real magical realism masterpiece.
I've only seen the first 2 episodes but I hope it can be as good.
So far, I find Manaka to be an annoying bitch.
A popular theory is that Uroko is future Hikari.
Crackpot theories can still be popular.
I dropped it after the first 3 NTR episodes. Does it develop a decent plot? Some fishgirl was being ostracised for falling in love with a land-dweller last I remember
I heard this show has NTR, it's true?
No, NTR is a shitty buzzword that /a/ doesn't understand. It has love triangles. There is no NTR.
it's not ntr.
it's a love triangle/polygon/whathaveyou
otherwise all romance series with love triangles would be ntr
it's only ntr when betrayal happens AFTER they a pair is officially formed.
I wish I dropped this, it's pretty crap.
Now OP, if you could help me find the name of the font used on all the buildings and signs in this show, I would be so very grateful.
We went through some rough times after the saltpocalypse because of the huge influx of new people in the threads, which lead to unbearable levels of shitposting, but one thing that most people always agreed was that it was an exceptionally good show and probably Okada's best work.
Also, Miuna is maximum love.
The land dweller and purple are the surprise OTP.
Is Tsumugu drinking alcohol?
You can still drop it, it's not too late!
>people always agreed was that it was an exceptionally good show
Always might be an exaggeration, but if you'd been in the threads you'd know that it was pretty much the general consensus.
There is relationship drama, the plot builds around it because the relationships are affected by the relationships between the surface and the sea people. Sea people are forced into hibernation when an 'ice' age suddenly strikes because the sea god has lost power.
There is absolutely no real romance between Manaka and Tsumugu besides the initial crush she had. It's Chisaki who grows closer to him. There's a general emphasis on love and not romance (family, friends, but also romantic).
It's a teacup.
>the huge influx of new people in the threads, which lead to unbearable levels of shitposting
Oh it's you again.
I don't know what you mean with again, but it's true.
I was in the threads, it was "another mediocre okada melodrama"
how are people so sure chisaki and tsugumu will get together?
what if chisaki chooses the shota path and goes for hikari anyway?
>not being able to differentiate between your personal opinion and the general impression of people's opinions based on most of the posts
As expected of anon.
Miuna will win before that happens.
Because most people in these threads aren't stupid shippers who can't understand how characters and their storyarcs work.
winning what? the pockybowl?
Then tell me who'll win hikari
I'll tell you, instead, what's the point of Chisaki's character development and why her fear was brought up. It's like you want characters to stay kids and not grow up as adults because of your shipping. She's more likely to fuck Itaru than Hikari.
Manaka will hibernate again to continue what she supposed to do. Hikari will sleep by her side. 10 years later Manaka and Hikari wake up and meet Akira and Tsumugu and Chisaki doli daughter. Miuna is the teacher in their school
If I had to put money on it, I'd say Hikari ends up alone. Outside of that, Manaka, with Miuna a very, very distant third. ;_;
I'll be drinking your tears when she goes back to the Seagod and let Miuna win.
I think it's pretty obvious it's Manaka or no one. Similarly Chisaki will struggle with her former crush and then realize Tsumugu is the one for her.
Kaname is the one I think will end up alone or have an open ending.
is manaka the writer's self insert or what?
manaka can die or disappear though
No tears from me; I like Hikari with both Manaka and Miuna. But realistically speaking, I don't think Miuna has much of a chance.
Be careful what you say, anon, because Mrs. Sea God is painfully Miuna. Manaka, on the other hand, is parading on the surface in the ED.
Chisaki is. Every hot guy is after her despite of her wet blanket personality.
to be honest, i really don't care as long as chisaki gets with tsumugu.
they both seem lonely and seem to be a great fit for each other.
and i really doubt chisaki would aim for hikari at this point.
Episode 19 Summary
Hikari and the others have found Manaka asleep inside a thick ena membrane in the cemetery of Ojoshi-sama's.
They somehow manage to carry the girl, who was losing her ena, back to the surface and to the Shiodome residence. However, Manaka remains asleep.
After that, a doctor examines her and concludes that aside from losing her ena there is nothing wrong with her body. Everybody is relieved.
After the doctor leaves, Hikari speaks alone with the sleeping Manaka. How will Miuna react upon seeing that?
Meanwhile, Chisaki goes visit Isamu (Tsumugu's grandfather) and he tells her that there's a continuation to the story of Ojoshi-sama.
Manaka's narration for final ep
I think Chisaki might think she still loves Hikari, she's one of those typical female characters who don't know who they really love. Kaname was added in that house for him to make her confront her that bullshit attitude. Poor guy.
ever considered it's because she is hot and has tits?
is this jealousy?
are you a woman or something?
>Meanwhile, Chisaki goes visit Isamu (Tsumugu's grandfather) and he tells her that there's a continuation to the story of Ojoshi-sama.
But then, it's still between Miuna, who is half landfag, and Manaka, who is losing ena.
Ha, ha! Time for Kaname suffering!
Kaname will have a time-skip to epilogue and "Oh look, somehow me and Sayu are together now" ending.
No, I just never saw her appeal. Everyone is struggling with love and Chisaki gets like the three most attractive guys (who aren't Uroko) after her: Tsumugu, Kaname and Sayama (maybe, he flirted with her).
Miuna has some background dude who looks like shit and Manaka has Hikari, while he's a great character, he's not necessarily attractive as the other three.
oh wait, have people been interpreting that scene in ep7 that way?
i though when he said "descendants", he meant the sea people as a whole.
You forgot the girl who became his wife was from the surface and could breathe underwater. Also had dark hair.
Considering Chisaki's main internal conflict is all about CHANGE I'd say that it's very likely she believes that.
I wouldn't think Kaname is more handsome than Hikari. Sayama either. Really, the only guy I'd call hot in this series is Tsumugu.
Chisaki is the stealth shoujo heroine.
Exactly. Kaname was the one with the introspection of how Chisaki is changing but she's not realizing it. Her actions are natural. I just want this to end so Kaname can move on.
All girls of the class are after Kaname even if he's been missing 5 years the little girls recalled how hot he was (remember even an old lady was smitten with him after two seconds talk), Hikari got jealous of this attention. He's supposed to be the bishounen. Hikari overcompasates by personality, but he's not as good looking.
anyone notice all the songs and quotes and promos always mention the word "Hikari"? I mean they don't refer to the character, but it pops out a lot.
It's not like having dark hair is a requirement.
sayama would hit on any pretty woman he meets.
kaname liked her liked her from the beginning, probably because she was his type.
same with tsumugu. tsumugu treated all girls equally, except for chisaki. that's also because she was "his type" so to speak.
if you really come down to it, it would also be hard to justify why anyone would fall for manaka.
it's really just the taste in personality and looks.
The promos are referring to the main character? Surprise, surprise.
Light is a recurrent motif in the show too.
Personally I was interpreting "descendants" as direct descendants of the seagod, firstborn, main family thing.
Usually in animeland, not RL Japan, a god's descendants takes care of that god's shrine.
>I mean they don't refer to the character,
At least finish reading the post before trying to be a smart ass.
"The promos mention the main character? Surprise Surprise?"
(Translator's note: Hikari means light)
When Hikari will become the light that guides all
I've been trying to motivate myself to watch this, but for some reason I just can't.
From the images I've seen it looks kinda like shin sekai yori, which I enjoyed quite a bit.
Is it anything like that?
no, it's much more dramatic.
SSY is strictly supernatural, while NnA is SoL with some fish people.
Not really. SSY is a a bit on the thriller/horror side and much more fantastical. NnA is mostly character based drama.
So will we see magic as spectacular as episode 7 again?
Every episode. I want the OST release date to be announced already.
>How will Miuna react upon seeing that?
It's going to hurt to watch.
that time was only spectacular because it was the very first time.
they had a great timing too. they used it to show that when it comes down to it, they were completely powerless and under uroko-sama's mercy.
even if it happened again, it won't be as great since we already had this danger before.
so how will they defeat a god like being?
Just let the fat titty girl end up with the fan-girl bait tanned bishy boy already.
what makes you think they will?
well if they do, as usual, it will be the power of friendship
Only Hikari likes Manaka.
Hikari merges with Sea God. Ena related magic.
But it's male otaku who think Tsumugu is moe. Girls favor Kaname.
Yeah its pretty good.
Oh pls. Tsumugu just screams bishounen than Kaname.
Japan is gay as fuck
And that's the way we like it.
>not wanting to fuck pretty boys
What are you homosexual?
Same. Only shows that come close for me are LH, Magi, and Space Dandy. I can't think of any shows this season that come close to as good as NNA yet.
This. It has a romance drama plot, but it's not shipping tier bullshit, you actually care about what goes on.
The 3rd BD that comes out on the 26th this month, will come with 2 character songs.
1. I wonder why… by Manaka
2. Dazzling by Miuna & Sayu
I wonder why Uroko's shrine was wrecked
I'm one of the people who always had high hopes for this show from the beginning. Obviously with the rough start what with the characters being kinda everywhere, it was a turn off to most people. But the character development is amazing. From hating Hikari to loving him.
>Miuna and Sayu duet
He's either a cheapskate, lazy, or both. He has divine powers and doesn't fix his house, and he scams food from the village to feed him when he can. I bet the hibernation will only end when there's no more food left in Shioshishio's cupboard.
Or when he runs out of sake.
>I had such high hopes for this series, but it kept on getting better and better with every episode.
