Anyone own the Black Lagoon DVDs?

How did the dub deal with Levy's profanity-laced Engrish?
>>
By making her swear in English?
>>
Puzzling indeed, since she's supposed to be fluent. In fact, isn't she supposed to be speaking English ALL THE DAMN TIME?
>>
dub is pretty decent. Seems natural enough
>>

Don't know but the original was AWFUL. Dear lord, people complain about dubs but damn that episode was just painful. Anyway that raises a question. Do the character in BL speak Jap all the time or what? That episode really throws a wrench in the works. It's Metal Gear Solid 3 all over again with the language issue.
>>
Revy is moe~
>>
>>10197030
Yeah, all the members of Black Lagoon are American except for Rock.

In one episode, a Japanese terrorist said to Rock "let's continue this conversation in Japanese", and a bit later, his Filipio comrade indicated he didn't know what they were saying...in Japanese.

At least they addressed the issue.
>>
They havent gotten up to the Japan arc episodes, so there is no engrish to be found.
>>
>>10197086
Yeah
>>
>>10197052

It's assumed that they speak English all the time. And Balalaika, Chen, and Rock should be speaking their own languages now and then.
>>
>>10197047
Wow!

That wasn't my question!

Does she swear like a sailor?
>>
>>10197086

No, she swears like a solider.

Sorry
>>
>there is no engrish to be found.
What are you talking about? Having you been hearing Revy swear in Engrish the entire series?
>>
For the convenience of the readers, nearly everything is English that's been "translated" into Japanese. The only time actual Japanese is spoken is when Rock talks with Takanaka, and during the Japan arc.
>>
>>10197121
Not on DVD, and before episodes 19-24, the actual engrish is pretty minimal.
>>
Does she say "fuck" in the dub? For some reason I thought they might be ginger about that.
>>
>>10197444
Nope. Theres a full array of four letter words.
>>
Yes, she swears up and down the street with "Fuck, shit, asshole, etc." As you would expect based on the manga and her general personality.

I was expecting Balalaika to have a Russian accent from the dub actor, but that didn't happen. She did speak Russian at certain scenes though. Overall she does a good job. For this series hearing the characters speak English just makes the show more convincing.
>>
Revy speaks a lot of English in the Yakuza arc. The dialogue in the dub is the same, just less garbled.

"Hey, you goddamn (instead of filthy) brats! You wanna shoot each other? Head on back to Lebanon!"
>>
>Yes, she swears up and down the street with "Fuck, shit, asshole, etc."
EXCELLANT. Just as it should be.

How about the "right in the ass" scene? When Balalaika was editing some porn?

Listen to this. Revy's voice is a bit too high for my tastes, but Leigarch is five different kinds of win. And yes, they do swear a lot.
>>
>>10197611

Wait a minute, how the hell did you see the dub for the yakuza arc?

I thought they never released the DVDs for second barrage, what with geneon going under.
>>
>>10197674
The remaining arcs were aired somewhere abouts, I remember from threads at the usual suspects. But they're not available on DVD yet as you know, though some company will probably pick up the slack since the dub's complete and BL's a hot seller.
>>
>>10197650
There, there, all there. If anything the dub's more liberal with swearing than the source.
>>
>>10197651
Revy's Japanese actress has a growly quality that I really like, but that's pretty good. Leigarch's accent is perfectly overblown.
>>
There is no dub for second barrage, there probably never be one. Being that Geneon America is going down the toilet, which is a shame for this series.

Not bad. It's better than most dubs. And I think that Revi's voice fits.

The real test would be if they got an actual black guy to do Benny.
>>
Wow, makes me wonder if I should stow my pirated copy of the second season and wait for the dub.
>>
>>10197856
I think you mean Dutch, and yes they did.
>>
>>10197651
God damn /a/, I like this dub.

I...Like...a dub...
>>
>>10197871
Yea, my bad. Oh they did? Very nice.
>>
Seriously, if you're this bothered by this language issue in that episode, you're a complete fucking idiot and moron and you really should have only been watching the dub.
>>
>>10197790
The dub for second barrage was completed but never released ... they are showing it in Canada.
>>
>>10197933
Huh.
Canada...got it?

Canada of all places?

STARz edge is airing the first season and I assume they're airing the second one too.

They had to get SOMETHING
>>
>>10197790

import the UK DVDs. MVM will be releasing series 2
>>
>>10198029
They get bagged milk. It must be true because I saw it on /a/.
>>
They never got around to releasing the 2nd season, so you can't compare the Engrish. But the va did an okay job. She sounds sorta girly though, not GAR like the jap va.
>>
>>10198234
You can't fix a car without a whoooole lot of milka.
