What do Elevens think of Nia? Do they hate her as much as weeaboos?
>>
dude.. i love nia....
im still crying..
>>
I love Nia, fuck off

MARY SUE
>>
She was too generic, nothing special so I could never really get emotionally attached.
>>
No she's actually pretty cool over there.

Weeaboo's tend to overanalyze and bash shit like crazy. A nip would probably see Nia the same way you'd see, say, Ariel from the Little Mermaid or Bell from Beauty and the Beast.
>>
sage for nia
>>
>>10194498

>generic

I always hear this in GL threads... so much it just doesn't mean anything anymore.
>>
MARY SUE MARY SUE NOBODY LIKES YOU

I think I recall a huge flood of ;_; poetry and fanfiction coming in from Japan after Nia died. They loev their stereotypical waifu.
>>
i didnt want to like her at first but she eventually won me over

Oh shit, did you just compare an anime character to a cartoon one?

INCOMING SHITSTORM
>>
They love her because Japanese men are spineless wimps that need a generic, boring HALP-ME girl that won't mind the tiny size of their penises.

...
that was mean.
>>
Japan loves stupid artificially perfect characters.

Actually, scratch that: everyone except those of us who overanalyze our fiction horribly and those of us who intentionally hate everything popular love artificially perfect characters. And people of the latter two types all hate Gurren Lagann anyway.

So yeah, she's pretty popular.
>>
does make me quiet sad every time i see her face....:'(

I hate all canon pairing girls.
>>
>>10194529

Well why not? Both fulfill a similar role, both are princesses and both are about as "generic" as the term seems to have become here on /a/.

I'm amazed at how people can sit down at anime and suddenly get all "THIS ARE SERIOUS. MUST CRITICIZE EVERY FAULT." just because it's Japan.
>>
She's a cute character. But then...she died on her wedding day!. ;_;
>>
They love her, just like we do.
>>
>>10194562

I don't like Ariel or Belle either.

She started cool, ended as fail.

Japan loves Nia.

So do I ;_;
>>
>>10194562
I didn't say I had a problem with it. In fact I agree to a point.

I'm just surprised that /a/ is taking it so well. Since, you know how it goes if you even mention cartoons on here usually.
>>
Started fail, got good when she cut her hair, but still generally fail. Then she turned awesome when she turned evil.
Then she turned mega ultra fail.

yeah man those eyes...if i was simon i would just end it
>>
>>10194596

No seriously. When I was a kid I had a big collection of Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales, that I would read through repeatedly.

Of all the characters in them, I could not tolerate Ariel, because she repeatedly screwed everyone over through her emotion-driven stupidity and yet nobody ever called her on it. For god's sake, it's a book of stories designed to teach morals, but the only moral in this story is that purity of desire means you're immune to criticism!
>>
THEY ARE BRING HER BACK IN THE FUCKING MOVIE!!

FUCK YEAH "BETRAY OUR EXPECTATION IN A GOOD WAY!?"
>>
>>10194600
They fucked sometime during the timeskip and again between the final battle and the wedding. GAINAX agreed.

I heard Ariel lost in the book.

Oh, sure, she loses, but then she turns into a fucking sylph angel thingie because heaven decides to reward her for being so stupid and gullib-- I mean "pure".
>>
I OVERANALYZE GURREN-LAGANN AND I LOVE NIA? WHAT ABOUT THAT?!

Also, only 5 very vocal idiots hate Nia.
>>
ITT: Idiots have never been to 2ch.

2channers don't actually consider Nia "generic" and actually "analyze" the show much more than we do... they also do it much better since they have quite a few untranslated interviews with Nakajima and Imaishi.
>>
>>10194534

But everyone in Gurren-Lagann was stupidly perfect. Particularly Kamina.

Dear lord, they're worse than us!
>>
I just finished watching GL (slowpoke.exe), what exactly is the meaning behind the spiral in Simon's eye at the very end? Is it just because he has a shitload of spiral power? Also, where the hell did the 40% meme come from, because I don't recall seeing it
>>
>>10195446

No, they're just less biased. The ones that dislike don't even consider Nia a "moeblob" either, but a "holy saint" type of character.
>>
I love Nia because Simon loves her and I love Simon ;_;
>>
>>10195467
Don't know about the eye but the 40% meme came from rumors that 40% of the total budget was spent on the last 2 episodes.
>>
>>10194880

All of /a/ starts to rage? Nia is not even the more hated GL character, try creating a Viral thread. Even fucking GLfagking Cirno will jump on your throat saying he was a worthless character.
>>
>>10195467
I think he's blind on that eye, I don't think it's a spiral.
>>
>>10194844

jesus fucking christ.

MOAR

(i hate myself for this)
>>
>>10195525
>last 4 episodes
fix'd for you. Don't make that rumor worse than it already was.
>>
>>10195453

Face it. The only time we actually see any weakness in him is when his dad is found dead, which he magically recovers next episode, and after he dies.
>>
>>10195467
I just think the spiral eye is that over the past 20 years, he lost his eye somehow, so replaced it with a glass one and said "It'd look cool if it had a spiral in it.". That or his spiral power just started showing in it. I doubt it'll be used as a major plot point.

And 40% comes from the fact that Gurren-Lagann had a budget twice as large as an average series of 26 episodes, and 40% of that went into the last 5 episodes.
>>
>>10195477

Exactly. This is the one thing that makes me RAGE in /a/. Nia was never a moeblob, her character archetype was born before that term was ever coined.
>>
>>10195551
>>10195545
>>10195525
Ah, that makes perfect sense, especially considering all that shit about LOLFRAMES when it was airing. Thanks.

Yes it is true that Nia was generic, but she was generic in an original way. Because Gurren Lagann is the type of show that never takes itself too seriously, she was semi-unique; unlike the pink haired Princess from Code Geass.
>>
I've read through the 2ch Gurren-Lagann/Nia threads and they talk a lot about how they love how strong she is and think Nia goes beyond being just a typical saint/moe character. Those that dislike her do so because they said she became "Holy Mary" in the final episode.
>>
>>10194498

UNLIKE EVERY CHARACTER IN ANIME EVER!
>>
I've always called Nia's archetype the "chosen princess" after all the fantasy pulps and RPG characters she matches with.
>>
>>10195658

But it's not about Euphie herself. Her demise was melodramatic and laughable.
>>
>>10195599
Hey, I cried for Euphie.

Then again, I'm the kind who doesn't care of he's seen a character type before and just enjoys it.
>>
SO I HEAR SOME GUYS ARE OPINIONATEDLY HATING NIA IN HERE
>>
>>10195710

Hate is opinionated by definition.
>>
When Nia saw the Kamina statues, she knew just how much Simon loved him and how important Kamina was to him. And seeing how he could feel so much for a person, Nia thought she could believe in him.

Nia is well aware that she doesn't know everything about her friends, but she tries very hard to learn more, and she continues believing in them because from her observations, she thinks they're trustworthy. Even when the Great Gurren Brigade were suspicious of her in the beginning, she told Simon that she still got a warm feeling from them and thought they weren't bad people. And Simon was always there for her where her father was not. When she found out her father just thought of her as a doll, Simon told her she should just live as herself, accepting her as a human being. After all that, why should she doubt him? That's just how she views things.

Her personality was about “questioning everything”, what everyone else considered an absolute she tried to actually understand. “Why are you fighting?”, “Why do you love me?” or the like. Beyond that, she had core motivations and her personal reasoning on the world. Actions like when she told Simon to use her hands as cushions for piloting Lagann or lines like “Farewell, Father. I’ll look towards tomorrow” or “As a matter of fact, we’re completely different persons. But I believe that thanks to these differences we will be able to live together” among others are clearly unique and meaningful.
