Modern Field Artillery, yes.
But pre-20th century Artillery was the most professional branch out of the three. Artillery was a science that required great technical knowledge, meaning that most officers gained their position by merit, rather than by social status or what not.
Certainly many artillerymen were the sons of artillerymen, but you still have to back up your position with the understanding of the complex math that goes into laying a gun correctly.
What I wouldn't give for a long-running manga or anime set in an early-mid 19th century world where two equally-matched nations are at war and, for one reason or another, all the fighting has to be done by teenaged girls. Of course, there would be futile charges, gory deaths, amputations, and general hardship galore. And as the war drags on and most of the older girls are killed or wounded, the new recruits would get younger and younger.
And the pages between chapters would contain the sort of info historifags love: weapon data, uniforms, flags, more detailed info on tactics and training, and updates on how things are going on the home front.
It is just American FA I believe. I was stationed at Fort Sill three times, and they are a complete joke.

Patton and the brits might be able to penetrate deeper into Germany if they had gone forwards, but I would say the Soviet Union of 1945's chances of winning a war for Europe against the Western Allies aren't bad.

It would have been costly but we wouldn't have ended up with Berlin getting raped and an attempted cleansing of the German people (well actually it probably would have ended with Churchill and Ike trying to murder every last one of them). The world would be a much better place had Patton been able to push forward and fight the Soviets.

Except the part where Manchuria still belonged to the Japanese, and the Soviets easily rustled up one and a half million men to take Korea and Manchuria from the Elevens? The USSR's manpower reserve was still more than capable (they recruited from Siberia all through the war), and their soldiers were all crack troops by that time after they shouldered through the Germans. On one hand, the Soviets have a horrible disadvantage in logistics, but they also had tanks, planes and weapons nearly on par or on par with the Germans by the end of the war, adn in greater numbers--I'd say the odds are about even, and I personally wouldn't be willing to jeapordize millions of Americans (not to mention the citizens Western Europe on a gamble of even odds on the behalf of a few Berliners who (whether tacitly by inaction or by active cooperation) were supporters of Nazi Germany.
He himself wasn't corrupt or a morally bankrupt individual, but he trusted too many people who were, and so his reputation is that of a buffoon--basically what I would say of George W. Bush.
Also, if you spend the time rolling through Europe, it means that Japan has time to build up its forces.

Japan was broken by 1945, though--they were basically hoping for a Last Stand while doing their best to negotiate a peace that would preserve their political system. The Kwantung Army was basically in Vietnam PTSD mode (even ignoring the fact that their tanks made Shermans look like Panthers) after China. Japan was basically ruined as a military force by that point with a completely gutted economy, a nonexistent navy and an Army that was at that point facing equally-well trained and better-equipped Chinese equivalents in greater numbers. Leaving Japan alone, though, still wouldn't be the best of ideas, and a war with the USSR would probably put Japan on the backburner
More like saving the majority of Eastern Europe from 50 years of Soviet oppression. A war with the Soviets wouldn't be about liberating Russia and more about pushing them out of Europe and back behind their borders while also crippling their infrastructure. The combination of Commonwealth and US forces would have been more than enough and essentially established US control over all of Europe and giving the empire a quick death instead of embarrassing them in the Suez

Churchill's hard on against murdering communists was almost as big as his hard on for bombing civilians
Lend-Lease. The Chinese always had good soldiers (Chiang's personal army was wehrmacht-trained and used German tanks and weapons), but they were almost all wiped out at the Battle of Shanghai early on (which also contributed to the Nanking Massacre, as the Japanese were basically suffering from PTSD after the first real difficult battle in their invasion). By 1944-1945 the US basically controlled the Atlantic, and the Chinese took teh Burma Road, so US supplies, training personnel and weapons were flowing in (the US had air bases in China, so they put quite a bit of materiel in). By the end of the war the Chinese were taking back cities and launching offensives on their own, with significantly better armament and tanks.
Not to say China wasn't still a shithole. Chiang was a corrupt dictator with fascist sympathies, the American advisers often had their own priorities, Mao and Chiang were backstabbing the shit out of each other, and the Japs were, well, teh Japs.

And if they lose Western and Central Europe also falls under Soviet Oppression. The Commonwealth is basically just ANZAC and Canada now--the UK is on life support, India is scrambling for its own independence and what British mandates existed in the mudslimeville are busy figuring out whether they're okay with jews (Jordan and Egypt were). The Soviets are just as experienced (if not more so given their engagement with the bulk of the wehrmacht), have objectively better tanks and more of them, and a comparable air force. After four years of war I wouldn't take Patton's bet.
Canada was pretty tired of this war by that time. They tried the worst thing you can do in Canada - Conscription.
That was bad. The public reaction was very vocally against it.
the US rolled Afghanistan and Iraq in the initial invasion, didn't mean people didn't get PTSD. The Japs did completely roll the Chinese, but they lost 70,000 over a protracted three month siege (the Chinese lost 200k, but in porportion to their available manpower the Japs lost a far larger proportion). The Japs won, but they had their noses bloodied for the first time (ignoring the fact that the Chinese were in a fetal position on the ground), and they weren't happy about it as tehy pushed on to Nanking (it didn't help that the Chinese fought them the whole way there).
That shines a whole different light onto that period of time.
