Why does it seem like no one has a nose in anime these days? Am I the only one bothered by this? I remember Krillin lacked a nose in Dragon Ball, but even there they made a gag out of it. Fast forward to today, and it's basically an industry standard. What gives?
>>
Looking at your picture, noses haven't really changed much.
>>
Lucky Star didn't have noses.
It truly was the beginning of the end.
>>
No nose is best nose.

Noses aren't cute. Go watch Kaiji or some shit.

How so? That pic has a wide variety of noses. Two of them are very cartoony, mind you, but they are still very distinguishable.

MEANWHILE, AT KYOANI

Nice cherrypicking by the way

You're new to /a/ aren't you? The fact that you are quoting K-On as an example, which finished 2 years ago, means you don't watch anime much and are out of the loop. Thus, all future arguements from you will consist mostly of generalisations and you aren't worth selling to.

Oh and there's this anime called Free, it's really gay, they have noses, and it's made by your favourite studio KyoAni.

Females are supposed to be like this.

no noses don't both me so much, what bugs me is when a character's lips are drawn with a gap. Like their lip just disappears for an inch and then begins again. Looks like two little mouths, fuck. pic related but this is a minor case.

i don't really care i just want OP to think he's the most autistic one here

Lack of noses, blushing on shit like their shoulders that makes them look oily as fuck, no distinguishable features in general in their faces, only in hair and colors.

Shit is retarded.

minimalistic characteristics are automatically finished by your eye and thus don't look bad. Your eyes are naturally drawn to the eye of any given character, meaning mouth and nose are peripheral. That's why eyes are over detailed and stylized while the rest of the face isn't. Personally, i like the style and i think it allows for easier animation which is also a plus. Before the 2000's or so, you had overstylized characters and so animation was harder to do, which lead to a lot of still frames of super detailed super shiny characters.

It's to make the corners of the mouth look heavier, like a change in line weight.

Animators try to make characters as cute as possible and noses aren't cute

I agree with this anon. While I can appreciate 80's and 90's anime and so forth, the beautification of the characters in newer anime is much preferred over the old. I'd also rather have actual animation than those irritating still frames all over.

>>101931768

Artfag here. Specifically that gap in the lips is there because the line weight is generally heavier in the corners of the mouth, and the gap also somewhat represents the middle of the upper lip overhanging the line of the mouth. Also, from this stylized point of view, if you've ever actually gone and connected that line, it takes away from the minimalistic beauty of the moeblob, and turns it 'cartoony' instead. It's actually a surprisingly big difference.

Anime also tends to emphasize characteristics of beauty we're naturally attracted to and amplifies them. Big shinny hair, big shiny eyes, small nose, small mouth... etc. Same goes for the body. It's a style of caricature.
>>
>>101932292
There isn't really a right or wrong approach when it comes to cartooning, but certain things work better depending on the approach you're going for. Minimizing the nose makes things a lot easier if you're doing a lot of head-on or 3/4 shots, but it can present problems if you're working in profile (anime tends to resolve this problem by creating a face that looks muzzle-like). Meanwhile, defined noses tend to look better in profile, but can be particularly tricky to draw head-on.

>>101930726
Have you ever seen a girl with narrow hips? It literally makes them look like a dude.

>small mouth
eh, not necessarily. the monogatari series sometimes makes an effort to actually draw lips.
but even then, i suppose they don't really fit the standard of "full lips" that many celebs have.
and i think while many people enjoy small noses, people also like defined/sharp noses (which is more western). defined features are also more adult-like, which obviously doesn't appeal to many anime viewers.

Noses are objectively ugly.

Same with ears if the artist doesn't understand them completely.

Redline actually, most of the time, had noses on their characters. It was in conjunction to make the art and animation really stand out and shine.

Shame you won't see a lot of things copy Redline, since it did a lot of things right.

That's the one thing pissing me of about Mahou Sensou. The main character is noseless in most of the shots. I'm fine with the little line/dots like in >>101930554 I can still see the indication that there's something there.
