Lets have an awesome 90s OP/ED thread.
I'll get us started with a couple.
Did that nigga just blow up a helicopter with a handgun?
>No Outlaw Star
You guys are terrible.
No clue, it's been in my backlog forever
Well now it's going in my backlog too, I hope you're happy Anon-kun.
How could I ever forget cat girls?
Fuck the 90's
>tfw have lots of 90s shows in my backlog because I liked their OP/EDs
Gotta have some space opera.
I ave that DVD set, I should rewatch it sometime.
It's a solid one, nice early entry into Production I.G.'s library.
The memories... remember when times were simpler and anime was fun?
Some of my favorite themes from the 90s were translated into English.
But let's not forget the greatest OP in the history of all time, ever. Pity the Lodoss TV show was shit.
fuck you guys I'm very sad/nostalgic now
PUT YA GRASSES ON!
Is Saber Marionette J worth watching? I've never heard of it before.
>MTV showing anime
what is this bullshit
It's a bit kiddy, but if you go into with that mindset, it's perfectly enjoyable.
Also, the art may take a little getting used to.
Man localization sure has changed over the last twenty or so years, translating an OP/ED would be unheard of now for a domestic release.
>tfw I've never seen a single episode of YYH
It's never too late too have fun Anon.
I'm probably starting it this summer - a-atleast I had dbz in my childhood
Have fun humming this for days.
so go and watch it
it's much harder than it should be to find this op
Watch it. Watch it for his crazy antics and hijinks. It's a "fun" ride that can get quite silly and serious at points.
Absolutely. I still remember watching it for the first time in Locomotion after being blown away by Successful Mission.
The art is a bit poor but got improved a ton in the J Again OVAs
>It's a "fun" ride that can get quite silly and serious at points
Sounds exactly like my cup of tea, already found the torrent on bakabt, thanks Anon.
You son of a bitch.
I fucking love this OP
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh ohhhhhhhhhhhwoooooo ohhhh woooooooooooooooowo wooooooooo
fuck, her voice goes right to my heart
>Outlaw Star OP
>tfw MTV was actually about music once
>tfw MTV has a weekly "Anime Night" once
>mfw i've seen NGE the very first time when was airing on MTV on those nights
God i feel older than i should now.
>mfw Anno wanted the OP to be classical
Glad the classical music still made it in the show, but the OP really works.
>all these faggots posting OP's
you have nothing on ED's from the 90s
god damn for such a shit show, dbgt had god-tier endings
So, for real, this is probably one of favorite EDs ever.
NOTRING WILL BE WONG
Beserk's opening describes the entire series perfectly
How about OPs that were used as misleading previews on old anime tapes?
Trigun's opening fucking sucks. Trigun had an amazing ost but the opening was terrible.
Would you watch an anime if Putin did the OP?
>you will never experience the real folk blues again
I have been fucking trying to remember the name of this goddamn anime for years.
Thank you anon.
Have some Iria.
See, now, why we even frontin?
Fucking Manga, how are they even still around if places like ADV went under when they held such high profile titles such as Eva?
that looks fucking awesome
how is it misleading me?
Don't let me into my zone.
There's also its Japanese title, VS Knights Lamume & 40 Fresh. A sort of sequel to VS Knights Lamume & 40 Fire, which was a sequel to NG Knight Lamune & 40.
It looks all fun and exciting and adventurous, yeah? Next to nothing in that preview happens.
The only thing that does is the one shot of the robot spamming the missiles. Okay, that was pretty cool, but to get there, you have to slog through a few episodes of cheesy 90s ecchi OVA with lots of bad dialogue and long stretches of just plain stupidity.
It's not the WORST THING EVAR, but it's just not good.
But hey, I won't stop you if that's your thing.
can't argue with that except if I
>implying any of you even watched this
Manga's still around? Holy fuck. I want to give them a cookie for such perseverance.
ADV went under for shit management and even with Eva, they tried to fund a live-action movie. Luckily they got tied up with Gainax over rights and royalties and went bankrupt before anything could be completed.
That's playing dirty.
Except, you've activated my trap card
jesus christ how horrifying
Jibaku-kun was probably the least popular of my childhood favorite shows. I still love the opening and Spaak is still husbando material.
>Luckily they got tied up with Gainax over rights and royalties and went bankrupt before anything could be completed
Serves them right, Matt Greenfield is a fucking idiot when it comes to Eva, those mythology of eva extras on my platinum edition DVDs prove that.
also the english version sounds a lot better
No one better than
I didn't want to do this, but you've left me no choice.
I CONCEDE. YOU WIN. ALL HAIL.
I had to pause it 2 seconds in before exploding due to excess nostalgia.
you've forced me to use force
not /a/ related, but I don't care, my nostalgia is overpowering me
But I still have
>not /a/ related
Now moreso than ever, considering Gatchaman aired in summer and Samumenco still airing right now.
Every. Single. Time.
I can only respond with something oh so much worse
THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM
times weren't much simpler, maybe a bit. it's mostly just that you're older now.
that series was a masterpiece
Speaking of Gatchaman, the 90s OVA was far better than fucking Crowds.
Oh god, I talk about this all time, but it's been so long since I've seen any of it.
Xebec is too busy with that big tities anime.
Remake never ;_:
TECHNICALLY not 90s (premiered in 2000), but TRY not to nostalgia out of places you didn't even know were there
>does not use 3 guns
And since I'm posting Tylor, I also have to post
>has been linked already
ITT a whole bunch of people born in th 90s
>Irresponsible Captain Tylor
I just ordered the DVDs after watching the Grumpy Jii-san review, looking forward to it.
before fan girls ruined it
Some authentic AV quality right hurr
YA GODDAMN RIGHT
And I'm sure it goes without posting, but
it's like I'm really watching a vhs
BURN UP YA HEART!
Do you feel the magic?
I liked the English dub just as much.
>you will never own a cabbit/spaceship
* english dub of the OP
>not Rhythm Emotion
Step up nigga.
i remember this
Did Grumpy Jii-san remember to mention episode 23? One of the finest climaxes I've ever seen, animated or otherwise. Just so perfectly built up and satisfying.
And if you get tired of waiting for the DVDs to arrive, here, don't forget the OVAs. Generally not as good, but I still liked a few of the episodes in there.
That fucking Ranma does at 50 seconds will forever stay with me.
>The power of my blow has no equal
>And if you get tired of waiting for the DVDs to arrive
Thanks Anon, I'll check those out in anycase, Amazon Prime shipping is my friend so I never have to wait too long.
>VHS is a dead and forgotten format
Where did all the time go?
I bought the Ranma movie way back when
spent so much time rewinding to relisten to this song
Does anyone else now feel really old and depressed?
It's like remembering better innocent times and having pure fun.
Ah man, Sadamitsu. Still love that OP song. Even if the show itself was pretty bad. Shame, since it had potential. Not much, being mostly a Guyver ripoff, but had some.
That was good. I think I downloaded it off napster.
Not unless I start posting the OPs of the shows I grew up watching in the 70s and 80s.
I thought I wasn't allowed to like this show back in when was a kid in school
I'm only 26 Anon-kun, I mean it's only going to get better, right?
Manga were, and still are, much more selective in what they acquire. If you look at their library it's quite a bit smaller than other, now defunct distribution companies and is focused very heavily on titles that would be popular to Western audiences.
Companies like ADV tended to be helmed by anime fans who were a bit blinded by their interests and who spent too much time and money grabbing up as many licenses as possible as opposed to being selective and careful over what they distributed. For every EVA that ADV might acquire they'd pick up a dozen garbage titles that no one wanted.
28 almost 29 here. It'll get better soon! I'm sure.. soon...
Jesus christ. It gets better soon right?
I was born in the 80's chump. 89 master race
God I feel super depressed as I'm turning 28 this year and I can remember most of these OP and EDs with my childhood.
Makes me wonder where Funimation is going honestly, they're doing a lot of the same type of stuff in terms of grabbing up a lot of titles, though they seem a bit more stable in terms of diversifying their content delivery services.
It's as good as you make of it, anon, so make it as good as you like.
Also slayers try
Holy hell, I want to watch this just for its OP.
>It's as good as you make of it, anon, so make it as good as you like
You're a cool guy Anon.
Do it. It's got great animation and style to it.
Story and character are a bit lacking when you really think about it, but definitely give it a go.
It's the lest I can do.
Now I'm remembering some of the faggot things my younger self did.
>all those trunks x pan
>all those aoshi x misao
Aw piss, I'm gettin' tired.
Fuck it. Have some Star Blazers.
green subtitles for sons
yellow for dialogue
and tell me, did you ever have a walkman?
This was one of my top Kenshin songs.
Heart of Sword
Just be glad you didn't watch Escaflowne of Fox.
>Fuck it. Have some Star Blazers.
The remake is pretty awesome as well, just finished it recently and got the first BD on the way from rightstuf.
I'm 24 and I feel old... I feel bad for you anon. At least you're not in your mid 30's like my bro
Opps, forgot the new OP.
FUCK YOU FUSHIGI YUUGI AND YOUR WILD RIDE.
I did and I still have it in a box somewhere with old high school papers and I'm pretty sure my original Game Boy is still there, too.
I watched the first few episodes of Nubles' BD rip and I loved it. Loved the new style with all the classic sound effects, too. I really need to get around to finishing it.
That's the OP that Anno did. It's good to hear Sasaki Isao still singing it, nearly 40 years later.
That's my childhood you're directly insulting right there.
But seriously, its honestly not awful.
Alrighty, I need to get to bed, so I'll leave you fine anons with this. So long, and thanks for all the nostalgia.
ED was top.
Really? I never watched it on Fox, just read about the cuts they did, like the whole first episode and chopping things up to make Van the main character instead of Hitomi.
If only gainax didnt butcher the 2nd half
Oh, we're talking the entire show.
Yeah no, it was this weirdly edited thing that tried to make it a boys show.
Card Captor Sakura had the same treatment.
It's really the mangaka's fault for getting upset that Anno was modifying it to make it good. She went and bitched at Gainax to fire Anno and he just walked away from the project leaving Gainax scrambling to get something out the door.
Oh yeah, Escaflowne is a fine show. A bit to shoujo for my tastes, but I can't call it bad at all.
And yeah, Fox, along with 4Kids never did have a good reputation for its treatment of licensed anime.
This is what I remember from that show. Funny how it's like one word.
TICK TOCK TICK
ma fucking nigga
>I'm in the kewlest drivers high
And I can't even spell "too" right. I'm goin' to bed. Take care and stay gold, good /a/nons.
I leave you with some Danger in Mexico.
Huh. So that's what that's from. Knew the song's title when that was a thing from ytmnd, but never knew it was from Initial D.
Even the people working on 4kids' own dubs hated them.
Well, I mean, they are playing some variation of that for most of the show.
Lets get hot blooded up in here.
I'm glad I got to experience some nostalgia. This is a fitting last night of my life. I'll be going on ahead, /a/
Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out.
>This is a fitting last night of my life
Don't kill yourself Anon-kun, that's not why I made this thread, you're gonna carry that weight whether you like it or not.
Time for bed.
It reminded me of how life was once carefree and fun.
DON'T YOU DIE ON ME, SPI-..I mean.
Seriously no dying is allowed.
Well, I can't even kill myself. I'm so pathetic I don't even have a blow dryer to throw in the tub. I guess I'll just exist
>I'm so pathetic I don't even have a blow dryer to throw in the tub
Well at least you're creative Anon, and you're forgetting how much anime there is to watch out there. My backlog will never be finished till I'm old and grey.
You can always use a toaster. And even draw a face on it so you can pretend it was the Brave Little Toaster bravely shuffling you off this mortal coil.
>And even draw a face on it so you can pretend it was the Brave Little Toaster bravely shuffling you off this mortal coil
To do that you'd have to be trying.
Just remember: you're worthless.
True. There's a lot of animu out there. Tbh, I'm able to live a carefree independent lifestyle even today because of a disability. But it hurts so bad because I can't work 99% of the jobs out there and I know everyone else is moving on while I'm just standing still. It's such a pain, I want more than anything for things to not change a lot from the good old days, yet not progressing past that is just as painful.
I'm sorry for your life troubles my friend, but killing yourself is not the answer. I'm generally not good with things like this. But I want you to know even if you don't think so, there is at least ONE person out there if not more, that cares about you and would be devastated by the loss of your life. It's just a selfish, short-sighted solution to solvable problems, or things you can overcome.
Stay strong brethren, as long as you actively look, there will people there to support you and help you make it through. Every little bit counts.
You're a beautiful person inside I'm sure, and seeing as how you've been around long enough to nostalgia from this thread, I'm sure you've gone through rough times and had your fair share of unfairness that just comes as a part of life, but you deserve love and warmth.
I love you /A/non-kun, and don't you fuckin' forget it. Don't make me resort to throwing cute gifs at you and forcing you to watch happy feels inducing animu. Your mission is to carry on and strive towards a brighter future, you got that soldier? And if you don't see a path, you fucking make one.
Anyone have the reasons not to kill yourself this year pic?
>yet not progressing past that is just as painful
Change is always hard Anon, especially when it feels like nothing is happening from it. It'll get better Anon, it always can get better as long as you have a bit of hope.
>You can always use a toaster.
Toasters should be held in your mouth when you're running late at school, not for suicide.
Thanks anon, I guess I'm just really selfish. I never thought there would be people out there who would care.
I think my beyond normal fear of change stems from actually having things get better at a point only to have them crash down. I guess that's just life. But if there really is the potential for more good times, I guess I will stay a while longer and try to find them
Then you have a problem that needs fixing, anon.
Wow, this thread sure went places.
allow me to lighten the mood with this goofy song
>Not Outlaw Star ending
NO YOU'RE TERRIBLE
As light as they come.
fucking really? did everyone just forget this came out in the 90's?
>not ED 1
You're still not not terrible.
There will always be people out there that would care. Like right now. I don't even know you and i care I hope things improve for you. Now let's get this thread back on track and flow with the POSITIVE nostalgia feels.
Just close your eyes and let the stress out man.
>did everyone just forget this came out in the 90's?
I did. Always think it was early '00s for some reason
The best part of this is that someone else remembers Maze.
I remembered it recently when /a/ was freaking out about that Imouto show/manga, um the My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute one, having a canon incest ending when Maze did that way back when.
I really forgot how low budget Maze was, but at least the OVAs are still fun guilty pleasures.
hate to pit nick but
>episode 1 aired april 19 2000
>mfw I first found Love Hina DVDs at my local library in 2002
Feels like it was just yesterday.
Naru a fucking shit
man that's close enough
You wouldn't want to try and electrocute yourself anyway. Not a particularly effective way to go and a painful one. Plus if your house has modern wiring you'll likely just trip the breaker panel and then it's off to the psych ward.
I prefer the original, but the even the dub version is pretty damn good.
Reminder that if you're watching Kill la Kill you should take the time to watch this short two-part OVA.
YYH was one of themost recent battle shonen I've seen. I finally watched it like, last year, and trust me, you won't regret it
Been through the whole thread so don't think any of these were posted.
Not the best OPs but may tempt some Anons to watch some:
>Video Girl Ai
>Dai-Guard (warning will stick in your head)
I remember being surprised at how the full version sounds like an almost entirely different song.
Looking at a lot of the stuff in this thread, it occurs to me that putting sound effects in the OP was a lot more common in the 90s.
>OFFICE WORKERS SAVING THE WORLD
>also, giant monsters demoted to "natural disaster we adapt to" to show off how humane we can be to each other and how we work together to help the victims of these disasters
>tfw you will never live in 90s Japan
I live in Japan right now and it's a bad feel man. Country is past it's peak.
What do you do?
anyone else remember these.
Their not openings or endings, but I remember as a kid they really stuck with me and still kinda do.
Teaching English with the JET Program. So far, Japan has been half good, half bad. I feel like I can't go home without getting an ever so elusive Japanese girlfriend at least once.
Happens all the time, like this one from 1977
>So far, Japan has been half good, half bad
Is it as xenophobic/racist against foreigners as I've heard? I've heard the cities are alright, but the rural areas are something else.
>get to burning
These promos always felt so lonely.
Oh god that chase scene with the giraffes!
I need to watch some Lupin, gave up on the 1st season twice, need to try again I suppose.
Xenophobia does indeed exist. Most Japanese won't outright do anything bad to you or anything. However, you'll find out when trying to make friends that you're never going to be an actual 100% "real friend" of theirs.
They have an obsession with complimenting your Japanese, but when they say after you just say one word in the language, you figure out it's BS. Most compliments are.
Thanks OP, I'd forgotten how awesome Nadesico's OP was.
>However, you'll find out when trying to make friends that you're never going to be an actual 100% "real friend" of theirs
That sounds really sad, like they see you as being some disabled kid who is kept around for tokenism.
This place is forever stuck in 1989. The amount of fucking faxes I've had to send, jesus...
Also the best ED ever here
FFS, forgot the link
Yeah, the whole technologically advanced Japan thing is pretty much a myth. If anything, the country is technologically backwards in many ways.
True, the first half of the first season, green jacket, isn't that great, but it does pick up around episode 14-15, which is around the time Hayao Miyazaki got more control over the show
The outer space one is the the one that stuck with me the most.
Yeah, they did have an odd sense of melancholy, that may have been what made them so striking. It's not really the sort of thing you typically see in promos and advertisements.
Superior City Hunter opening.
There are a bunch of old anime on my watchlist, but I really have to move City Hunter to the top
among many other
I miss Locomotion ;__;
Living with a Christmas cake Japanese girlfriend was the best thing that happened to me while I was there (nee-sans are the best thing ever). I will move there for life and live happily ever after with her once I'm finished with my military service here.
She has the voice of an angelic whore...
i fucking loved Nadesico as a kid.
Then i rewatched it again a few weeks ago and my nostalgia gogles broke.
How did you succeed in getting her? The big problem for me is finding out where to get girls. Day game doesn't seem to work in Japan.
You lost the gift of good taste on the road to adulthood. Shame really.
You and me both dude.
We'll just exist. Fuck the rest of the world!
My sentiments exactly.
>implying ADV went under
They filed for bankruptcy because Matt Greenfield probably cooked the books and didn't want anyone to find out. ADV still exists under the name "Section 23 Films" and several associated companies owned by Greenfield and friends; incidentally Section 23 of the Texas tax code is what allowed them to declare bankruptcy and hide Greenfield's fraud in the first place, so classy move there, Matt.
Incidentally, "ADV" still exists on paper, even though its bankrupt and all its assets were transferred to Section 23; its sole reason for still existing is so Matt can continue to to attempt to sue Gainax for axing the live action Evangelion adaptation; once again, classy move.
Excel Saga is still one of my favorite openings. It's just so catchy in a good way.
Oh wow. I guess I'll check it out then.
She was my next door neighbor when I first got there. One night I lost the last train to get back home from work and I met her while I was trying to find a taxi. She offered me a ride home but we went for a quick drink before getting back. We had a lot of fun and decided to go out again and after that you can probably guess the rest of the story.
this is really good
First Stage had the best opening.
The 90s were fucking god tier time of anime, especially if you were a mecha fan.
>trunks x pan
I loved that pairing too. Now I'm remembering those old doujins.
This is the most 90s OP
oh god this
