Why'd they ruin him /a/?
I don't know what you're talking about.
Life just beats you down. Then one day you realize that the boy dressing as a girl to draw manga that isn't about boys fucking wan'ts the D and you just don't care anymore.
11/10 husbando would bang
to appeal to the modern fujo audience, since they had a trap that quite likes him. Rake in the fujo bucks.
Ironically I am a massive fujo with Madarame as my husbando and hate his new character design. It's disgusting.
I know it's a different production group but it just seems like they hollowed out the original two to apply to a niche market. I probably would have been okay with it if it was fully known beforehand this feels like a spinoff than Genshiken.
He's absolutely the same as he always was. The only thing different is that his surroundings have changed.
Adapt or leave.
Uh, what is OP talking about?
Spotted Flower or Second Season?
I want Nidaime haters to leave.
>what are you, some sort of homophobe? get out of my /a/
But I thought /y/ and /d/ were meant for that stuff..
Where is my Keiko/Madarame interview?
They gave him a more mature outlook which I kind of liked. They cleaned everything out from the first two and threw together this 'fuck it. it's not going to suck itself.'
You're just jealous you don't have a trap rummaging through your eroge collection.
I couldn't adapt to the new VAs
he's a failure for life, like he should be
Try the dubs.
Don't worry anon.
Kousaka is gay. She'll come crawling back for the D eventually.
Will there be a chance of a 4th season?
I didn't like the dub all that much. But that was the first two seasons, is there one already for the 3rd?
It is funny how both of them messed up their wrist in diff manga.
>last chapter of the manga came out two months ago
I love Nidaime and he's a very well developed character. His old design was more defined though, but that's the new artstyle's fault.
Also goddamn no new chapters still.
Oh my god this image is amazing.
I know right. It's so perfect.
My whole genshiken folder is 500 hato and hato x mada pics.
I always wanted more Genshiken until Second Season/Nidaime. Such a shame. I loved the ending of the second anime season.
Did you read it? You're missing some volumes of important story in the original genshiken manga.
No it didn't. It only came out one month ago.
Ok, so I'm getting chapter updates from ogiuemaniax, but is anyone have the newest 2 or 3 chapters up? Batoto is behind.
Seriously, fuck the scanlation groups that fucking dropped this.
Are you asking if I read the original manga or the new stuff? Yes to the former, but for the latter, no, I haven't read it in its entirety. I just do not care for the new characters at all. I completely skipped the third anime series for this reason.
The hero madarame doesn't even know he deserves.
You are wrong.
What was the last chapter? Hato going home?
If only Hato was a girl.
It's not a group, it's all one guy, Anonymous Spore. He's probably busy with work or something. He always makes a thread here when he does do a chapter though.
I meant the old stuff, with the Ogiue arc, that's what I meant by original series.
There are no "Groups" doing it. It's just one man.
The raws for 95 never appeared though, right?
Didn't Batoto ban people from using No Group though?
Last chapter on batoto is "Snow Man II" and is chapter 94.
Hato at home during break, his crush/inspiration/sister-in-law talks to him and then he has dinner with his old friends.
Newest chapter is chapter 96. So we're 2 chapters behind.
Ah, okay. You might want to check MangaTraders, but so far as I know 95 didn't get scanlated.
I'm not gay, but goddamn was Kouta Hirano right when he said that Madarame was the sexiest character back in vol. 6.
His ageing/maturity and overall design is fucking amazing.
I'm a big fan of Nidaime even if nobody else seems to be. The threads were usually fun and big though, both the manga and the anime ones, and had at least a few good dedicated fans.
I hope that new interview the mangaka did about the series gets translated or summarized too.
Nah they're there. If anyone wants chapter summaries, check Ogiuemaniax. There's some in the archive of older threads too (there's barely any so it's not hard to find).
Haha me too. They're just too cute together.
Oh, you're not alone in liking Nidaime, it's just that the main complaint is it turned into a sort-of rom-com, when before it was more about nerds being nerds. Now everyone's hooking up.
That being said, I know I really love it, mainly for the old guard characters, and the americans. Don't be discouraged, we're here.
>that anime original hug
Well, there's also the problem of how almost all the arcs in Nidaime that focused on the Genshiken members proper were Hato arcs. We didn't get development of Sue or Onodera, and Yajima's development was basically "I like Hato but he's gay."
The Nidaime anime is what finally got me to read the manga. I tore through the first 8 volumes in two days, it was a great read.
I dropped Genshiken when Ogiue lost her purity.
I know there's some, but I just never make a thread because I know it'll usually just be full of complaints, some reasonable some not, some about the good old days, some sellout fujoshit comments, etc... and die because there's not much to talk about without new chapters. Although looking back in the archives years ago, the threads were even worse, so I feel bad for sporesan.
I'm still eager for chapters though, maybe falling behind makes the workload seem harder to handle
I'm predicting that no one will will the Mad A Rame. Shimoku's going to pull a classic ending to the arc by having Madarame, now jobless, accept an offer to work for some company outside of Tokyo.
I could see that happening. Though, I think people will keep in touch with him via phones or skype or something.
"win the Mad A Rame"?
Any anyway you slice it, I'm gonna love it.
Madarame gets the "real" ending and moves away to get a different job, presumably becoming jaded and alone in the long term... I then applaud it for having a "true" ending for a hardcore otaku, because I can handle bittersweet endings. He keeps his hobby, but can't shake the nagging loneliness. Like so many real people.
Or he hooks up with (name your favorite character here). We get to see a happy Madarame and an adorable couple (no matter who wins the Mad a Rame). So then I enjoy a "good" ending, which I then totally enjoy for what it is. Shmatzly goodness. War fuzzies for everyone!
Can't keep me down, not with Genshiken.
I was pretty shocked when that happened. It felt like the anime was more blatant with Hato's feelings for Madarame. Makes me wish to see the later chapters animated.
I meant "warm fuzzies". Obviously.
Well, if you look at all the earlier characters that got any focus, there';s really not much either, it was pretty much a Sasahara + Mada arc, and then a Ogiue + Mada arc. Now it's Hato + Mada. It's a different manga to be sure so it's understandable, but it's not that different.
That's great to hear, glad you liked it so much. I loved the original Genshiken and read it years ago, and is still one of my top favorites. Then I tried to read Nidaime and couldn't get into it, but then the anime aired and gave it another try and marathoned it all.
I've been saying this for months man. Mada will not win anybody. This is all a big satire on harems. And wouldn't fit his character in-story, really, he's still horribly passive and has some crippling flaws concerning both relationships and his life in general although I'm still betting on Hato even though it's totally impossible
Whoever wins/loses, we win.
Oh god wait, maybe Kio created Spotted Flower as a preemptive measure to protect readers against the inevitable depressing Mada ending in Genshiken...
>the nape scene will never be animated
That chapter made me go nuts, it was too good
Although thankfully the anime was really well done overall and very adapted too, so I can't be too spoiled
Don't tell me Madarame starts going out with a trap. That would make him gay. That would mean his character was destroyed. He never expressed any interest in traps in the original.
Say it ain't so, /a/
b-b-but op, 3 has best girl
He definitally created it to placate the Mada/Kasukabe fans. Which rocks. Could it also serve as a balm for our inevitably-chapped asses if he gets no-one?
Sure. But pesonally, I'd rather see a happy, less-than-realistic ending with Madarame's love life. I wanna see him happy. If it goes "true" route and he winds up alone, that's fine. But I want him to be happy.
(Preferably with a long distance relationship with Angela (allowing him bi-annual visits/dickings, but also letting him be himself without being "smothered" by 3D.), but Keiko is a suprisingly good fit for him too (as she's basically Kasukabe-lite).
The only ruining of Madarame that Nidaime did was Hiyama not being the VA
He was fine, however the new series wasn't as good overall
No, he's not going out with a trap. At "worst" he's been caught off guard by his girlish persona and had a bit of *doki*doki*.
Even when that did occur, he was telling himself that "It's a dude, man. A dude!". So I think we're probably safe.
That's not Ogiue.
>Even less character development than Oguie in the original manga run
The fuck you talking about? Oguie becomes center-stage starting in volumes 6-7. she gets practically 2 or 3 books dedicated to her arc.
Nope. If you read yaoi then you know that that's the first step.
I really wish I knew someone like madarame, having someone with far more knowledge and experience than you to look up to is such a refreshing feeling.
Shaddup. Let me wish for my Angela ending in complete delusion.
I completely fucked up, and I'm sorry.
I hope he goes full gay
>"I don't like boys, I like Hato!"
>Nagi in the background, snickering
But seriously, it'll NEVER happen. Although apparently Hato's now fully open about it and is gonna participate in the Madab Owl seriously. But he'll lose...
I highly suspect Mada'll end up alone but happy, THEN maybe meet up with someone. His life is too much of a wreck right now - or maybe I should say, he's far too unhappy with his life right now. For him to land a girl in this magical harem of his would just go against Kio's style.
A true wizard.
>those fucking scenes
Man, those things had me in stitches. I can't even remember the last time I laughed so hard at an anime.
But Madarame a shit
Yay Genshiken thread.
If the Chinese translation of chapter 95 comes out before handsome anon translates it, I'll take a shot at doing a (crappy) re-translation here.
Keiko could clean him up and whip him into shape.
I love it.
>>Not showing a screencap of the absolutly perfect Tanaka.
I'm like that.
You're outnumbered, friend. That being said, your opinion is valid to yourself.
(I started the series so many years ago thinkin the same thing, thinking Sassa was boss. Now I've cooled on Sassa, Mada has really grown on me (and as a character overall, IMO).
Keiko won't fit because she'll remind him too much of Saki and will always be playing second fiddle in his mind, and he's too nice of a guy to do that to her, and he probably still can't let her go
Hato's head over heels for him and would be an adorable little waifu, but he's still a guy
Sue's a mute, although a fellow super otaku
Angela's a joke, obviously
Which perfectly sets up the classic "I'm not a replacement, I'm my own woman" scenario.
If that happens then there's a chance, actually probably the most likely outcome of this, but not as Madarame is right now
Keiko - I'm not sure she'd mind. And I'm certain that NO ONE is ever going to replace Saki for Madarame, she's an ideal that cannot be reached. Ever. Whoever he ends up with (even if it's years later after the end of the manga) will have that problem. After she bought Asuka's plugsuit specifically FOR Madarame, I really think this may be his best bet.
Hato - Best synergy with Madarame, but still a dude. Mada gets flustered with him, (but so would most of us if an attractive trap hit on us). But he's not gay. So no-go.
Sue - She may have developed feelings for him, but I see her as more of an orchestrater than a love intrest. She likes madarame, but SHE wants Mada/Hato. She's been pushing him to embracing yaoi, so her attraction conflicts with her goals. Not gonna happen.
Angela - Maybe she is a joke (see >>101895871) But even if she's a joke, she is, at the very least, an effective catalyst. And maybe she won't end up with Madarame, but if next comifest rolls around and Hato doesn't cock-block, she may actually land a one-night-stand outta Madarame, which is a win for both herself as well as him.
What do you mean? That he didn't lay the trap?
You never forget your first love.
>but SHE wants Mada/Hato.
I think she gave that up after this happened.
Regardless of who it is, I really just want him to pick someone. I'm tired of watered down endings where the author chickens out so as to not alienate anyone who had a preference toward one character.
It seems all too prevalent lately since they want the volumes to sell, but it's tough to believe that even the author would want such an ending.
I don't think Hato has good synergy with Madarame. They're just otaku that can actually hang out and talk to each other since Sue is mute and Angela is in America.
Indeed. I still act fucked up when I'm reminded of her.
That's what I've truely loved about Nidaime.
Madarame's ending in the original Genshiken run was bittersweet but all-too-familiar. He gets pictures from Ohno, gets caught, everyone has a good laugh, and then continues his life in silent loneliness. It was bittersweet but realistic. He wasn't devastated, he merely continued doing what he loved.
I was worried When Nidaime started out, but his forlorn feelings have been handled EXTREMELY well, IMO. He still pines, he still gets wiggy when she's near, but he's comfortably with being her friend, if not just a bit sad.
I know many of use feel very close to Madarame because of how he handles his relationships. That wouldn't be possible if it was written shittily.
I don't like Hato much, but he seems to be framed as the winner so far.
It's a shame, since I like everyone else more than him.
Him losing his virginity to a one-night-stand with Angela would be amazing. It would actually be pretty good for development.
He's not, really. Some people just think it's cute, but he won't win, and Mada shows no signs.
>Angela is in America
and has a language barrier between them as well as a too strong personality in comparison to Madarame
Really? None of the scenes where they chat (especially in Madarame's room) emit a "kindered spirits" vibe to you? Madarame's burned by love, but is thouroughly Otaku, Hato can't handle romance because of his past and his... quirks, but he too is "just one of the girls" when anime is discussed. I think they're very comfortable with each other. But hey, maybe I'm misreading it.
I know how you feel, I really didn't like Hato much when he was first introduced, but he is growing on me, as a character. I just really dislike him as a love interest in Madarame, simply because it doesn't/shouldn't work because of Madarame's orientation. Relationship wise, Hato is bottom-teir for me. Bro-wise, Hato is mid tier.
>He's not, really. Some people just think it's cute, but he won't win, and Mada shows no
I hope you're right, I hate Hato.
I mean, appreciate Hato as a story element, I just don't like the character itself.
I'm actually jealous of Madarame, despite how much he gets pitied on /a/.
I mean, holy shit what I'd give to have the college life and friends he had...
(on the first point) I know right? It's just what he needs! She's been working on it every visit, and this visit left after a triple-confession. Next time? No where to go but sexy-town.
>>dat picture. Plz no.
I'm pretty sure Angela was just provoking Sue with her flirting though. If anything she'd tell Madarame she'll come by his place at night only to have Sue show up instead.
Haven't you read Assassination Classroom? Love only makes it easier to break down the language barrier.
>Sue flustered when she figures it out, thinking she was just invited to a regular genshiken meetup
It's a friends spirit, not a romantic synergy.
Nah, I really like the scenes between them, even/especially when Hato is a guy
I personally really love Hato but I still don't see him actually winning, Mada's simply not gay (and not in the Hato "I'm totally not gay! I'm not gay! I'm not!" way). Some have had the idea that Madarame rejecting him would be sort of a closure moment for him being rejected by Saki, being on the other side of the fence thing. Or maybe not.
??? I wasn't getting that at all.
See the picture in >>101895871. I feel she really does have Madarame's feelings as top priority.
She's not simply teasing him to get him or Sue riled up. She wants to help bring him out of his shell. She knows it's not going to be permanent, but she can help him experience sex and companionship.
She cares about Madarame's feelings just as much as anyone in Genshiken, but she's not Japanese, and thus isn't bound by Japanese high-context dialogue. She's blessed by her low-context English speaking mindset. She's blunt, and she's using that to her advantage, cutting through all the timid bullshit that has plagued Madarame for years. She's aggressive and she wants to take a ride on his disco stick. Fuck the flirting. You wanna fuck, bro? It's shocking sure, but she's not sending mixed signals, she's asking for permission to land on Madarame Tower because he needs an American Invasion.
Madarame acts like a moron around her because HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE WANTS. Many people don't.
It took an aggressive woman to get me out of my shell, it could help him too.
Angela loves him, but she also recognizes that Sue has developed feelings for him. So, while she acts carefree, she's actually treading carefully to avoid hurting her friend.
I agree, never said it was ROMANTIC Synergy, just... synergy. The work well together.
I could actually see Hato being a fantastic wingman for Madarame at a bar. (not that that particular scenario would ever happen).
True. I guess you could look at it from that point of view. But... still... there is a difference between being careful to avoid hurting a friend, and acting like cupid between Sue and Madarame.
Doubt she'll play cupid.
Definitely agree, she won't play cupid. But when your best friend is in love with the same guy, you're not just going to rush in and steal him away.
>I could actually see Hato being a fantastic wingman for Madarame at a bar.
If I could draw, I would draw this.
I like Angela, but just that Engrish kills it. Same goes for Oono.
Manga is far superior in that respect.
That's why you work in a F/F/M threesome. If there's anyone in Genshiken who would try to set one up, it would be Angela.
Too bad that's even less likely to happen
Yeah, it was really painful to hear in the anime.
It was a shock.
Why aren't you f/a/ggots all more like sue?
God I wish you were all sue ;_;
But then we'd all be mute, and /a/ would be >ded .
Mute fuckers can type, dipshit.
Sorry, I'm more of a Tanaka myself. Except Greek, so you better be into hairy bara.
Sue isn't mute, she just speaks entirely in quotes.
>>I could actually see Hato being a fantastic wingman for Madarame at a bar.
Someone draw this plz.
Instead of spouting famous/obscure quotes, we're spouting famous/obscure maymays.
ISN'T THAT ENOUGH FOR YOU ?
So much better.
Sue doesn't even text!
The best S3.
Hato would be wingmanning as a trap, right? I'm imagining short haired version.
Sue doesn't text? What?
It's expressly stated that Sue texted madarame to come to the clubroom in the chapter where Ogiue shares her Sasa/Mada with Hato.
Sue texts mada to come to the club, and he shows up too early. Her plan for... something... is ruined because of it.
I've got -10 and -8 strength glasses. I'm not good at drawing people.
T-that's great, anon...keep up the good work...
Perfect for sex with madarame?
"My Hips are moving on their own"!
Every night is a new doujin that she recites from memory
Every night, a new adventure
"What are we going to do on the bed, Mararame-san?"
>tfw when she gets to Radiohead
Oh christ. That's hot as hell.
I wonder if you'd be able to get her into the doujins you're into. Or how crazy she'd get on her own.
"Hey... uh.. why are hold up that DA HOOTCH doujin?" Uhh.. listen... I... gotta work early tommorow, Yeah. So..."
any more bumps?
I summon... Anonymous Spore!
He/She/It/Xe isn't Daiz. You're just going to have to wait for Genshiken translations, assuming they're even still on /a/.
I'm surprised he seemingly hasn't posted here yet. He usually appears in Genshiken threads.
What? What about it? What am I not getting?
Maybe he's just asleep? I mean, I would've expected him to dump GEnshiken 95 and 96 raw at some point and I haven't seen it.
Hato and Madarame. I saved it from a thread here but haven't been able to find it unedited.
Oh, I thought it was keiko for a second.
What ABOUT Hato and Madarame in that picture? He's passing him a drink, so? I mean sue already has one, so it's not like Hato chose to gave one to Madarame before anyone else. They're friends. What's so weird about them hanging out?
For some reason they gave Keiko dirty blonde hair.
I think it's just supposed to be cute anon
He didn't change, the surroundings did. How did Genshiken turn out? Not a super secret club anymore?
No, it's even more super-secret. It's become all fujoshi, and thus drives away the other, more balanced otaku during the spring recruitment.
Sorry, I just jumped to conclusions and assumed that he was implying it was some "proof" of mada/hato. My bad.
That's what I though too. It looks like Keiko's face, but the rest doesn't really match up, so I guess it's Hato?
He's changed a lot.
>It's become all fujoshi
This is why you don't keep other girls except Saki. This is how you ruin the dynamic and easy-going life of a club.
I haven't watched the newest season, didn't they turn it from a show about lonely otaku doing lonely otaku things into yaoishipping tumblr fangirl bait?
Thanks anon. I appreciate it.
I-it's just cute for people who like them together. Seeing them interact.
Yeah, probably. I know he's a busy guy. It's funny though how he usually materializes whenever there's a decent Genshiken thread going.
Not really, no.
Watch the damn season.
What is the population of females to males in anime fandom? 1-10?
No, how many buzzwords can you fit into one sentence? And that wasn't the really point of the series to begin with.
And yeah he usually always shows up. Although I haven't really seen an genshiken threads in a while.
I love how Sue is in the running to be the unofficial Genshiken Mascot, even though he's a very late-comer to the series and American too.
It's the same outfit he wears in chapter 95.
>And that wasn't the really point of the series to begin with
Are we watching and reading the same show? Because it was MAINLY the point, especially in every episode.
Not even close. When I joined my college anime club, the ratio started 30F/70M.
When I left it was 70F/30M.
From what I've heard from my friends, its about the same now.
Females in otaku/anime fandom are exploding. They're quickly becoming a majority.
Anime yes, but not for manga, which is why the series is more focused on them doing doujin things now with Ogiue and such. Comiket is actually female dominant.
Funnily enough I never actually watched the show, only read it. Is it worth it? How different is it?
She's a great mascot character. Even animal-like.
Ehh... overall, the anime is inferior to the manga, but I actually really liked the english dub, and the 2nd season was great because of little anime-only additions. Ogiue gets her own fantasy episode, so you get to see all the dudes in yaoi-vision, see >>101895905 for an example. Also, there was an extra Angela/Madarame scene in the anime that was reincorporated as canon in the manga (the fingers scene).
So yeah, it's worth a watch, but the manga is better.
Oh, and even though I love the americans and they're great in the anime... the english dub is atrocious (mostly Ohno's fault, Saki is good and Angela is actually decent).
goddamnit, that makes no sense when I re-read it.
The Actually English Dub done by the american translation team and voice acters is fine.
The "English Dub" that sucks is if you're watching it in Japanese and Ohno butchers the fuck out of everything.
I think the guys are just less social.
>Females in otaku/anime fandom are exploding. They're quickly becoming a majority.
I fear the our little hobby is being a little TOO exposed.
Maybe they're all fujoshi?
just call it engrish
Maybe. but imagine people accepting and encouraging the lifestyle.
That would seriously be annoying.
I can't watch s1 because of the terrible dub...
Everyone on /a/ are fujoshi.
Maybe you need to stop thinking of our hobby as a secret little club.
I've been a D&D player for years and I've seen that same mentality sprout up with 4th edition and Pathfinder making it mainstream. They bitch and moan that it's not "our little hobby" anymore. Fuck that.
Why is it bad if what we like becomes more popular? Are they not true fans in comparison to the likes of me or you? Do you realize how big of hipster you sound like?
The problem is that whenever a fanbase becomes popular, it starts to get normalized and people start trying to force the culture to conform to what people prefer in everyday life. Loli becomes sexual abuse, harems are mysogynist and polluting, and we have to start dealing with stuff like Seikon no Qwaser and Senran Kagura being banned.
I wonder who shafted him...
Surprisingly hot and attractive, especially without any glasses on.
Love her super genki style.
That's the best thing Genshiken led to in all these years, THAT GIF.
Madarame only caved in to loneliness and normalcy.
Have you seen the state of what video games have become? Or /v/ in that case?
There is a reason that I don't want others knowing about my hobby. Imagine everything you like being criticized or banned.
I don't care if you call me a hipster, let them discover this hobby on their own. Stop trying to normalizes everything.
The problem with 4e isn't that it made D&D popular.
The problem with 4e was very workmanlike books that didn't create fun worlds through interesting lore or good artwork combined with a system that was very video game-y and discouraged strategy.
I get that. I do, but maybe we shouldn't have such shitty fetishistic stuff be our staple genres?
Maybe if more people got interested in it, and it became more popular, we could have more accredited studios and talents working on good stories and plots? Maybe we could get out of this current rut anime seems to be going through, where fetishistic otaku are paralyzing the market because that's what sells. Maybe heightened awareness would lead to renewed creativity in our medium?
It's not staple to me, but I enjoy having a fanbase that can discuss literally anything because we don't try and judge others for being too weird or unusual. Whereas when normalfags get involved, people start trying to call attention to and reporting subgroups of people for not meeting their moral standards.
Or maybe you're just full of shit and haven't discovered anime beyond on what you assume?
That's a perfect example of why this hobby can get ruined. you want to change everything to suit your own desire, but probably haven't discovered anything from it.
>Stop trying to normalizes everything.
We're not doing anything man. And I'll say again that while them being into televised anime might be new, the hobby on the whole isn't at all especially with manga/doujins
And videogames is a result of it being an actual massive industry, anime will never be that no matter what, so stop doomsaying.
Anyways this whole conversation is dumb
take a better look at what really sells.
Many fanservice-heavy series only get a few thousand sold copies, fan-service alone won't get you high sales.
Many manga we like aren't a secret club in Japan anyway, so the risk isn't that big. Mangaka will continue to not give a shit about the western fanbase anyway.
Yay, a Genshiken thread. I'm late like usual though and it looks like all the usual topics of conversation have been gone though. ughhh, I love this comic and I want to discuss it, but its kind of between arcs right now and things where talked to death ages ago. I think I can tell all the usual characters showed up in this thread (besides Spore, why are you sleeping/having a life?), nice to see we all still obsevily jump on a Genshiken thread.
Anything interesting happening in the comic that hasn't been translated yet? I hate missing out on the jokes but if the plot is picking up then I think its time to check out the raws and read spoilers.
You lost me at comic. But mainly it had been set up for Madarame in the raws. Too much fujo blocking progress. God damn this is making me hate fujo.
> shitty fetishistic stuff
That's your opinion.
> current rut
What rut, it's creating more than ever before. Don't tell me you're going to use the word "moeshit" or believed that fabricated Miyazaki quote? You can't show any era when anime was on the whole, more "mature", more "creative", less fetishistic.
> Maybe heightened awareness would lead to renewed creativity in our medium?
That doesn't work with any other medium, it wouldn't with anime either. Popular things that mainstream audiences like are stories like Transformers, Call of Duty, and Twilight.
And good god this whole conversation is still dumb
What do you expect. The entire club is fujo. They're going to try and get Hato/Mada even though Mada hates it. It's just like real world fujos discussing gay porn when normal people are in the room.
looks like Hato came to better terms with himself, but my japanese skill is too low to give details. Other chapter was just Ohno worrying about the recent lack of characters she could cosplay
Hahahaha, stay mad.
I haven't "discovered anime beyond what I've assumed"? Sure thing pal. I've been in this hobby for years, and I'm damn proud of it, I'm not asking for anyone to take away loli or any of that, but what I'm saying is that with more people who are fans of the medium, more minds and creative people will be introduced into a possible outlet for their creativity. And maybe with that renewed creativity we can have a new renaissance in anime?
Because honestly, in the last 5 years of anime, how many wholly new, non-fetishist, genre defining anime have been created? I'd be willing to say probably not a lot compared to the sheer volume of bland fan service shit we've been getting recently.
The current group of otaku are really encouraging the trend of retreading mindless moe stories to encourage dvd profits and product profits. We need more people in our hobby to bring in more dollars and encourage creators to create something new.
I'm not taking way anything, and I'm not "normalizing" anything either. You can have your loli jerk off material, I don't care. And yes, you are correct, with any hobby's growth, there will be those who try to enforce their morals when they discover something new. It's unavoidable, but I don't believe it's a big threat, nor do I believe it's worth handicapping our hobby to avoid it.
There are chapter summaries on ogiuemaniax
95 was big on hato getting over his closet and 96 was sort of light stuff about yajime
>In the last 5 years of anime
Stopped reading right there. you don't know shit about your own fucking hobby, and you're quick to agree on the idea of "creativity", which I find nowadays as an excuse for "I don't know what the fuck I'm doing, pay attention to me." ?
You invite the IDEA of creativity, with no research of anime at all (especially in the last 5 years. because I'm pretty damn sure a lot of good ones were released in that time, don't lie to yourself, you can Google it.) but don't keep that promise and basically cater to the normal fag audience. you are just as bad as the "Otaku encouraging the trend of retreading mindless moe stories"
Whatever you think "moe means."
>everybody starts accepting and encouraging otaku stuff
>forced to get into sports in order to remain an outcast
>in the last 5 years of anime, how many wholly new, non-fetishist, genre defining anime have been created?
how many of those have been created in other timeframes? wholly new and genre defining just doesn't happen often.
>Because honestly, in the last 5 years of anime, how many wholly new, non-fetishist, genre defining anime have been created?
Can you show any 5 year period since the early 60s when anime started being televised, when it was any different? There's lots of information on past decades of anime for you to find out for yourself instead of seemingly just randomly assuming like you are.
>I'd be willing to say probably not a lot compared to the sheer volume of bland fan service shit we've been getting recently.
You think dumb fanservice series are new? They aren't. Nothing's changed at all. What "sheer volume" anyways, there's not that fucking many. You would probably be bitching about shows like Ranma 25 years ago, too.
>The current group of otaku are really encouraging the trend of retreading mindless moe stories to encourage dvd profits and product profits.
Do you think "mindless" series are new? They aren't. What is moe, anyways? Are you just talking about SOLs or "cute shows"? Can you name all the shitty "moe" shows you hate this season for us?
>We need more people in our hobby to bring in more dollars and encourage creators to create something new.
It doesn't work like that. Non-otaku's tastes aren't any better than the otakus you hate. It won't create some renaissance where everything's some "new" masterpiece, and any made won't sell anyways. Any money made won't be used for that, too.
Look at what happens to fansubs after they get popular.
>First names used when last names are spoken
>Jokes left untranslated and unexplained in favor of weak replacements
>Puns not TL Noted
>Localization everywhere, from signage to terms
I'm enjoying a lot of shows this season so how can anime be bad
Anyways I hope this doesn't turn into more of another shitty industry thread
But that's all Diaz's fault.
I know this is a good manga because even the raws can give me a few awwwww moments or laugh out loud pages even though I can't read a world of it. Although I really should start learning some of it, its time to admit I'm a weeaboo and start making my hobby easier to enjoy.
Anyways this thread went way off track, but probably lasted longer than a normal non-release genshiken thread would, thanks everyone for talking
Spore if you find this thread in the archive, good luck with everything if you can still find the time for work on the chapters
You'll never summon Daiz like that!
I get the same reaction when I read raws for this. Like when I read that confession chapter, my god, I totally exploded. haven't flipped through 96 though.
I know it'd take years to understand, but damn, I should really start though, you're right
Speaking of synergy, I think Keiko and Madarame have really good synergy.
>"Dis bitch loves my nape"
>Watch the first season of this eons ago
>Completely forget about it for a decade
>Realise now that in that time I have essentially become the NEET otaku from series like this, Welcome to the NHK, etc
>Want to read the manga/watch the new anime seasons but scared of it hitting home too much and causing depression
This is one of my favourite moments in the manga
They really need more time together, it'd be great
>implying this is a bad thing
5 bucks that he goes to her work place once in the manga.
You clearly don't remember what Genshiken is about. Its about accepting that you are a loser nerd and living a happy life anyway. You can embrace your hobby and enjoy it, have friends that share your hobby, and live a normal life. The comic does a good job showing its not easy and can go poorly (poor Madarame), but its more hopeful than depressing.
It does hit some very realistic downers, particularly with Madarame and Ohno growing older and aimless...It's all pretty upbeat stuff overall though. Maybe you should reread everything from the beginning too, Sasahara's arc may help (although the art is way heavy with the blacks, the new one is pretty bright)
Are there actually sparks flying here, or is that my imagination?
I wouldn't doubt it, since they're both WHORES!
Shit, looks like I completely missed this thread. Oh well, I just have to say that Genshiken is one of the first manga I ever read, and I may be biased, but it is also one of my favorites, Nidaime included. A lot of people complain about Nidaime but I think it is still more or the less still doing what Genshiken has always done, just with different characters and with more BL. I know for a fact that some people don't like it just because they are buttmad that it has fujohi in it, but I am not so fickle a fan that I let the BL and fujoshi blind me from the fact that the manga is still great. The manga already covered normal otaku stuff - figures, models, doujin, games, hentai, anime - and now it has moved to fujoshi and BL, it is only fair that they get a focus too in a manga that has covered pretty much everything else.
Oh umm yeah
I caught a bad cold so it's gonna be a while until I can even get started on the goddamn chapter with its goddamn redraws and terrible scan quality with random random lightened tones and fuckkk. Seriously what the hell was wrong with this dude's scanner.
Also this is a Public Service Announcement: Keiko is the best Genshiken, thanks.
Get well soon Spore and as always thank you for your hard work.
Oh god I remember reading some of those raw page and got a nightmare from how terrible it must be to redraw. Get well soon and thanks for everything, your work is always amazing stuff.
And I agree, Keiko a amazing
Very much agreed too. I'd like to read that interview about why he decided to make Nidaime
