I just finished this series, and besides the fact that Gainax ruined the last few episodes and any hope for a second season, I enjoyed it.
But that isn't what this thread is about, in episode 18 Arima and Yukino have sex. It isn't explicit, it is just implied that they did it. Why don't more romance anime's do this? I can only think of a few series where two characters actually do it. Is it that stigmatized in Japan? I have a hard time believing young couples over there don't do it, so is it just taboo to talk about in the media? I think it adds more depth to a relationship and makes the show more interesting, but most shows don't even feature a kiss.
but the current target audience of anime doesn't believe in sex before marriage.
There are still people out there like that?
If there were the world would be a better place
How different is it from the manga?
Yeah that also really gets on my nerves. Even just seeing characters kiss is pretty rare.
I'm sure it wouldn't.
I don't know, I haven't read it. But apparently all the really good stuff happens after the anime ends, so I might pick it up.
those people on /a/ who doesn't sexualize their waifu and or . they're either serious or parodying the actual japanese young adults spouting crap like that on 2ch. then there are guys who like to put girls on imaginary pedestal that's why idols exist.
I guess it's a cultural thing, I really just want a realistic depiction of a relationship instead of all this purity shit.
A very special kind of "people"
Karekano aired on primetime, it was a diferent era
What a shame, no wonder their birthrate has gone to shit.
I hear that the overall tone becomes darker as the story shifts to Arima. The art style and story apparently becomes also a lot more shoujo-esque. So I would assume that a lot of strong suites of the anime would've been fairly incompatible with the later stories both technically and in terms of appeal I'd think.
I think Anno even had a personal disagreement in philosophy with the author in terms of romance so that fueled issues even more.
Also, dat Shintami Mayumi voice
That is so frustrating, I'm aware of what goes on later in the story, and I personally think that is the best part of it. All they covered in the anime was the lovey dovey stuff without getting into the reality of why Arima is so fucked up in the head.
Because almost no romance anime today has an actual couple in it. its 13 or 26 episodes of endless harem bullshit or 'comedic misunderstandings' with them finally holding hands in the final few minutes of the last episode.
Go out to a bar then
Anime should be pure
The manga went to shit after the anime. The anime was good for Anno's direction, the mangaka was a retard
Dark Soichiro is Sasuke-tier
Shoujos tend to deal with different things from male-oriented Love Comedies. Current shoujos do seem have a lot of set couples with clear establishments (except they still manage to find ways to bring tensions via drama and misunderstandings)
Realistic depictions of Romance is not hard to find in most mediums. You can read Thomas Hardy or just get your local celebrity magazine to see the opposite spectrum of that.
No, it should be realistic. Like this guy said
watching two people screw around for the entire duration of a show without any real romantic development is just stupid. That would never happen. I understand that certain shows retain their charm by having nothing happen, but when it comes to a romance anime, more should go on than a couple finally holding hands by episode 26.
Anime isn't about realism
There are live action shows for that shit
>except they still manage to find ways to bring tensions via drama and misunderstandings
Don't forget rape. In the shoujoverse, rape is the cause and the solution to all life's problems
It's been a plot device as old as Civilization itself anyhow.
I realize this, but human relationships shouldn't be depicted in such a way. Even if the show is about giant robots fighting aliens, I expect the character interaction to at least retain a certain degree of realism.
>mfw Soichiro raped Yukino
It wasn't rape, he just thought it was. But I get your point.
It was rape, Yukino was in denial like many rape victims and battered housewives.
Damn, I hate what the author did to Yukino. She went from a complex female character under shoujo standards to a perfect Japanese waifu.
>> Reading Sensual Phrase
>> Dude about to propose
>> Girlfriend gets raped
>> Her eyes now look permanently vacan. Entire existence is ruined.
>>Boyfriend ends up slitting his wrists instead.
Why I read Shoujo I don't know.
Because it's still better than haremshit
I'll agree to that, at least shit actually happens.
>Shinji jerk-off over Asuka's comatose body
>SO FUCKING DISGUSTING!!! WHAT'S HIS PROBLEM? GOSH, I HATE HIM SO MUCH!!!!
>Soichiro rapes Yukino
>Oh my poor baby! Soichiro is suffering so much! I want to give him a hug <3 <3 <3
People interested in reading it should expect it to be pretty shoujo-ish. It gets knocked pretty hard for being grimdark and filled with drama where the anime leaves off, but plenty of similar series are much worse in that regard.
This is worse than Usagi Drop
He doesn't rape her you stupid fuck. Japanese women just act like that when they have sex. It's in their fucking psyche to act submissive to the point where you Americans (conditioned to your feminazi SRS whores) think it's rape.
You're so in denial that characters in anime might actually have sex.
Mainly religious or old fashioned people but the latter is harder to find nowadays.
What a waste, why would you not want to have sex before marriage?
Marriage is pure
Virginity is pure
Who wants a loose bitch?
I don't really give a shit about purity, I care about the way someone treats me and how they act. It's not like a girl is worthless just because she has had sex before. I'm not interested in marriage anyways. I just want someone around I can be happy with without signing a contract that binds us together.
Also, your implication that a girl who isn't a virgin is "loose" is incredibly childish, and you aren't going to be satisfied if you keep thinking that way.
There's a inverse relation with the number of partners a woman has had prior to marriage and happiness/satisfaction. The less partners one has had the happier they are. Lower numbers also implies that they would rather work harder to make the relationship work rather than just hop on the next dick if things aren't going smoothly.
Okay? If someone isn't satisfied with a relationship I would rather have them hop on the next dick rather than hang around. It's not like you can't find another woman.
She might even be better than the one you had.
Also, if you two really love each other, it doesn't really matter how many partners either of you have had in the past, because you will do whatever it takes to stay together. If shit happens and she cheats or leaves you, then you just need to accept the fact that it wasn't meant to be and get over it. You can't just be scared of starting a relationship with someone because statistics say that they have a higher chance of leaving you if they aren't a virgin.
They don't have to be a virgin but lower numbers are usually seen to be more trust worthy. Besides, if a person has an unusually high number of past partners don't deny that throws a red flag. Higher numbers implies a lot of things about a person just like how a woman who has divorced 7 or 8 times is probably a gold digger and/or a cunt.
>besides the fact that Gainax ruined the last few episodes
>Not Tsuda being an idiot
The manga sucked especially towards the end.
Not a lot of women have divorced 7-8 times, and not a whole lot of them have had an astronomical amount of partners. There is a certain point where you draw the line, but not a lot of women ever reach that point.
Looking at the video,re-watching the opening makes me wonder if Hiroyuki Imaishi had a part in this series, looks like his style.
If fact, the overal tone remnds me of Eva at some parts.
It has been a long time since I read that part, but it was definitely rape. And Tsuda pretty much gave Arima a free pass because it was him.I don't know,it just rubbed me the wrong way.Yukino was starting to act like an idiot at that point too.
I wonder how the Gainax team would have handled that scene if Tsuda wasn't so anal about "muh romance".
If they're reasonable they won't have high numbers but a lot of women tend to have one night stands nowadays but usually don't count them as 'partners' (you know how women tend to round down numbers and men round up?)
I still don't see why it even matters, just don't get married and you wont have any problems. Worst comes to worst you just break up and move on.
Tsk,this show always managesbto make me a bit mad because of its cancellation.
But the manga? The manga, sure made me rage.
>Not liking edgy Arima.
>Not enjoying reading not-rape at the library chapter.
>Not liking the side-stories.
It's like you don't like fun, anon. If it wasn't for the volumes of the other characters I would have dropped the manga instantly.
>I couldn'd shag Soichiro so I'mma go for his daughter
This son of a bitch...
this manga was such a fuckijlng waste of potential.
