Why is /a/ so resistant to anime and manga being popular?

Popularity means
>More stores selling anime and manga
>more TV networks showing it
>more quality translations or dubs since people are paid more and their job is taken more seriously
>more mature manga or anime is localized since it is publicly seen as not just robots and speed racer anymore

In japan anime is pretty widely known about, and there isnt this "gotta stay underground" mentality that you see with handcore western otaku

Wouldnt you want to live in a world where you could go to a store like Gamers in a western country, or a two story otaku paradise like the kinds you find in akihabara? If anime was as widely enjoyed in the west as it is in japan, would we be better off or farther in a pit of shame?

Popularity means
>more retards on /a/

>handcore western otaku
shit I've been doing it wrong
>>
I'm not ashamed, and I find the variety and amount of stuff sufficient. So I'm ok with status quo.
>>
Look at /v/ and you will have your answer.

If you need it spelled out for you /v/ is absolute fucking filth now. The increasing popularity of video games draws all kinds of obnoxious idiots, so did the popularity of 4chan.

popularity means the current problems with anime.

1)fat mouthbreathing idiots that don't know how to hide their power level in public/polite company (ie the majority of you people)

2) the commercialization of the industry. if there is an enormous "market" for anime and manga, then there is going to be supply created to suit that demand. however, this leads to the proliferation of rehashed ideas, shoddy story telling and plots that seldom progress beyond
>be strong
>get ass kicked
>get stronger
>get ass kicked by someone stronger
>rinse and repeat ad infinitum

3) /a/ becoming mainstream.
if that ever happened, i'd change my name to John so i could legitmately hate each and every one of you faggots
>>
>dubs
>localization
Why do you think this is a good thing? It kills the author's original intent, and generally all of the original dialog as well.

Popularity means hordes of people coming here to shitpost and troll. Popularity sufficient to get anime all over network TV would mean being overrun with normalfags and having politically correct censorship everywhere, like video games and feminism. Western leftists consider most anime to be extremely offensive, and they'd mount political campaigns over it if they thought doing so would get them enough attention and media coverage.

>more quality translations or dubs since people are paid more and their job is taken more seriously
The part about translation quality is false. Professional translators have to deal with the rule that time is money, so they often rush through things. I've seen official subs that left out lines entirely. Furthermore, dubs are a bad thing, localization is destructive to quality in general, and more of it would lead to legal crackdowns on piracy, which would reduce the number of high quality fansub groups.

The bottom line is a bigger western localization industry wouldn't be good for the quality of subbed anime and would fill the community with retards and feminists, many of who would come here to try to stop us from enjoying things.

> politically correct censorship everywhere.

So fucking this. No wincest anime any more

All of this absolute fucking bullshit.

Now please let this shit thread die.

Anime is not a social hobby. You only benefit from other people in the hobby to a limited extent; it's not like, say, tabletop RPGs.
>>
itt /a/ is hipster as fuck

>or a two story otaku paradise like the kinds you find in akihabara
Impossible in the west.

>More stores selling anime and manga
>more TV networks showing it
>more quality translations or dubs since people are paid more and their job is taken more seriously
>more mature manga or anime is localized since it is publicly seen as not just robots and speed racer anymore
I don't care about any of this.

The only thing that popularity brings is a cancerous fanbase.

Welcome newfriend. In Japan most interesting chinese cartoons aren't so mainstream. Why? Because they are emitted after midnight when only Japanese nolifes aka otakus are watching them. Also in contrary to your believes in Japan otakus aren't widely accepted by society. But yeah just like every normalfag you are thinking that Narutu is animu created for chinese fat nerds.
