Hello /a/,

Do some of /a/nons use mac as your primary os? I think not a few /a/nons like VN, touhou or other "only in windows" things so pc should be reasonable for your purpose. Nevertheless, I understand many anime/manga fans prefer aesthetically "cute" or "slick" designs so mac may be one of strong candidates in this regard (designs are very subjective though). Could you tell me what os you're using and why you chose it? Did being /a/non affect your decision? I'm typing on my macbook, which wouldn't be my main laptop if I didn't like cute things (and that's the only English os available at cheap discount price at my uni store).

Thanks!
>>
I use os x as primary os on my hackintosh, I would never buy a mac, especially not a laptop since the build quality is lower than asian rolex copys.

That's exactly the opposite of what I've perceived as the opinion in my CS class.

you're on the wrong board

but instead, post moar loli

ask a regular person what's better and they'll say a PC.

ask a macfag what's better and they'll say a mac.

your "cs class" is full of mac faggots.

Macbook lol

university.

Windows can look like better than macs can.

Really? Am not sure if mine is crappier than the average pc but at least this macbook seems solid. Maybe you're talking about more technical aspects that only tech-savvy guys can understand?

ITT /a/ becomes /g/. Let's cause some real rage.

Speaking of cute and slick, wouldn't you want Vista for that? It really has a cute interface.
>>
Mac users are paying 2X the cost of hardware PC users do for the same chips in a different package. Linux is as good or better than OS X.
>>
>>10185951
MacBook Pro. Not because I like "cute" or "trendy" things, but because I need a Unix-like OS for getting shit done and Linux is a total failure. The fact that OS X actually has commercial applications is also a plus.

Cancer killing Mac users. Get out.
>>
>>10186091
How is that trolling? Have you ever used both Linux and OS X and compared the two?

I don't think you ever opened a terminal in OS X, enjoy your failure.
>>
>>10186100
I don't think you would know how to handle a real terminal window and a shell.

You meanie ;_;

I prefer my anime cute and my software functional (so I can watch the anime, obviously). I do use Compiz Fusion on Linux though - neat eye candy, but definitely not weeaboo influenced.
>>
>>10186144
As long as the user is not a total fuckup I would say every OS is functional.
>>
>>10185966
I don't know about the quality, but those things are fucking expensive.
>>
>>10186155
Well If you look at the macbooks they are expensive, on the other hand, look at mac pro's and what you get for the price, they are not that expensive.
>>
I use Linux and stick my VN's inside a VirtualBox XP machine.

The only problem I've had going from windows is that I can't seem to find a media player that can properly parse subtitles where there are two separate lines on the screen at the same time (actually while I'm here anyone give me advice on this).

>>10186081
I take it you need some rather specific commercial applications, or a good level of support for graphics application support (gimp is okay, but not brilliant). Otherwise I can't think of a reason to support OS X over Linux.

My .zshrc is bigger than your penis (bash is for faggots). I write my own shell scripts all the time to automate stuff you do manually by stupidly dropping and dragging. I'm the one writing C programs while you're coding your synergetic turnkey enterprise ready solutions in JavaAIDS.
I don't even use a GUI under Linux, faggot. I use OS X on the desktop/laptop because it actually has a bearable graphical interface, unlike GNAA/Lunix. For everything else, I can just ssh into Lunix servers.

Not a troll. Linux fanboys that think Macs are for girls piss me off. Leopard is actually certified UNIX, just like real UNIX OSes, like AIX, HP-UX and Solaris. Linux is just a cheap Unix clone.

Okay, just as soon as I finish this accessible, foolproof GUI frontend application for people who operate their computers instead of slaving for them on the command line.

Vista has attractive eye candy. But I like this combination of OS X's interface and hardware designs.

Pic not related. Attached to show how important eye candy is.

Let's see you do this with your great GUI application:

sed -n -e '/regexp/{=;x;1!p;g;$!N;p;D;}' -e h

I've no idea what it does but I'm pretty sure it's awesome.

I use a Macbook Pro. And I've played visual novels on it. I'm also going to upgrade Leopard. It doesn't have anything to do with style - it's simply the best option in my case and many of my co-workers in my computer-related company have the same.

Yes the build quality and parts in a mac are generally better than in most PCs, and you're paying for that quality. My employer pays in my case, but the recommendation was get a Macbook Pro or get an IBM Thinkpad since they both are high quality laptops (this was over a year ago mind you).

Linux is OK for most uses, but OS X is also Unix and the application support is spectacular.

For niche applications I'm going to use Windows XP, but it's OK because amazingly after 20 odd years Microsoft managed to make an OS beside NT that wasn't completely unusable.
>>
>>10187518
>I've played visual novels on it.
Are you running Windows on it or is there a way to play major VNs natively on OS X?
>>
>>10187704
I played Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya natively on OS X thanks to a patched version of ONScripter. Aslo there's lots to play in renpy.

For Fate/stay night I'm going to get Windows XP and Boot Camp. There are some programs for work that I rarely use that also run in windows only. OS X will still be my main OS.
