Bide your time, and hold out hope.

I always thought that Dantes was an asshole for doing that shit. Especially to his old boss he brought him literally to the brink of suicide for pretty much no good reason before bothering to tell him that he'd fixed everything for him behind the scenes. With Valentine it was a bit more justified since he actually did have to fool her family, but still I think he could have handled it in a more tactful way than driving the boyfriend to the edge of despair like that.

What could you not like about that glorious retribution?

Also, blame the alien parasite

Well mostly talking about in the book where there was no alien parasite.

Is the book worth reading? How's the translation?

I've no idea since I don't know French, but the book is very good. I read the Penguin one.

It's the kind of story that might be better the second time, which is why I think the anime and book make good companions, regardless of which you start with.

The anime doesn't really spoil the book anyway, since the anime deviated from it so often.

Is Gankutsuou good?

I think so too.
