How were the sales for Redline? I fucking loved it.
It bombed at first due to poor marketing but did somewhat decently through word of mouth.
Sad that this would probably the last 7 yrs of hand drawn anime we'll get in our lifetime.
Terrible sales. Terrible VAs, meh OST, meh animation.
I hear it did pretty bad.
I thought it was way to out there to the point that nothing wowed me. And the whole love thing was shit.
Its fucking shit. Want good animation? Watch Non Non Biyori.
It didn't do well, but it was all flash and no substance so it's kinda to be expected.
Who were the VAs for this? They weren't ppular ones?
Animation doesn't sell anon, stories do. That's why its called a medium
He probably listened to the english dub. Calling it, "meh" animation. I wouldn't doubt it.
They were actual actors who did the voices and not just normal VA's.
If I remember correctly the only one who had another big anime part was JP.
He did the voice for Howl in Howl's Moving Castle.
Is there some kind of rule in that anime world that original movie with a huge budget isn't allowed to even try to have a decent story or characters?
Try harder next time anon.
While your may be able to argue your way out of the "terrible VA's and meh OST", the one thing it did have was fantastic animation.
The only thing to come close to it from its decade was Sword of the Stranger.
Seems that way sometimes. Even a little more thought and I bet it would have done better. Its a real pity considering the effort they put into it.
It restored my faith in Anime.
These last few years since have been clawing away at it though.
Most other mediums don't rely completely on a single aspect though.
I mean, the vast majority of other, more repsected mediums, have movements and groups focused on the wholly technical aspects of said mediums.
I'm pretty sure it did bad, now Madhouse will never have the money to finish Satoshi Kon's last film.
Never understood why it got so much hate for its story.
It was never advertised or meant to be anything more than a simple yet fun story showcasing the beauty of hand drawn animation.
You failed reading comprehension in high school didn't you?
Because people don't appreciate the actual visual style of Anime anymore.
Most "fans" are probably just dulled to it now they've been watching for years upon years. I would say Redline had a fairly unique art style, but it still wasn't enough for people to watch and experience rather than listen and whine.
Not kare no shift, anon plz
Goddamnit anon. You had to remind me didnt you.
bombed at domestic box office
bombed at BD sales
bombed at merchandising
they made a flagship movie no one asked for, and now the studio is reduced to being MARVEL's whores and making godawful LN adaptations
Calm your tits, faggot. I know who you replied to. But you also somewhat agreed with him by saying he could argue his way out of it. So before you call someone out for having reading comprehension, why not understand what the fuck you said in the first place, you fuck shit dick muncher cock sucking dick faggot. Fuck you.
>not UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ
>movements and groups focused on the wholly technical aspects of said mediums.
Which is totally pretentious. Like film fans wanking over cinematography.
Even films that are made entirely for the purpose of displaying cinematic technique understand that they require a decent story to function.
I fucking love cinematography but its a tool. You don't get exited over a hammer you get exited over how its going to improve your job.
Like it or lump it mediums are mediums. An appreciation and attention to a particular medium's intricacies are necessary for it to grow but its still serving a purpose at the end of the day.
Trava episode 2 never.
I'm sorry Anon.
it could have at least tried to be different from normal anime
Mai Mai Shinko to Sennen no Mahou had a more interesting style and was more visually inventive than Redline and it came out in the same year.
>akshun plebs will never understand real quality
>one and a half races
>the last race completely stops at one point
>at the end everyone shows up and begins using some bullshit light energy making the entire preceding part of the race pointless as fuck
It was sold as a kick ass racing movie with amazing animation and some kind of killer soundtrack. Only the first part of the theme is any good, the animation was nice, the races were non-existant.
I thought /a/ liked this.
likely not great.
Certainly not as good as a movie like that ought to be for the investment it had.
Its a great shame but we should just be happy that it exists at all.
I'm pretty sure /a/ was something along the lines of
>7 years hand drawn
>7 seconds writing plot
/a/ is not a singular creature, when it first came out it was very exciting because of the style and animation and that opening music. then people watched it a second time and the flaws became much more glaring. as this anon said
all flash and no substance
popularity backlash, became seen as too casual, moefag taste.
A mixture of these things. The same thing happened a few weeks after TTGL came out too.
there are two races which last about 50 minutes in total.
At the end people used their nitro.
Neo-/a/ is full of casuals who think they aren't casuals and that everyone else are the casuals for not liking what they like.
