Can we have a DRRR thread?
I'm a bit over three quarters into it and I like it so far. It's entertaining and I like the characters.
The only thing that I dislike is Izaya's "edginess". The stuff he says and his little monologues are almost comical in how stereotypically edgy they are.
That's the point. He's a lonely little asshole afraid of dying and he covers it up by being a personified fedora.
>He's a lonely little asshole
/a/ in a nutshell
that fucking scene. it just felt so forced on izaya's part
>The stuff he says and his little monologues are almost comical in how stereotypically edgy they are.
He makes up for with how utterly in love with humanity he is. I like how the author gives a character some traits, upgrades it to the extreme, and is consistent with it.
Guy in my department was wearing a Durarara shirt this week.
Made me curious.
It's quite good.
People say the first half is better than the second half. I'm enjoying both.
It has a very quintessentially human feeling to it.
It's pretty mediocre.
After the initial curiosity about the setting it just felt like it was dragging on. Don't ask us though, we have no idea what you fucking like. Three episode rule exists for a reason.
Its pretty cool. I'd give it a shot. It ends pretty unresolved in some ways though but both cours are fairly self contained.
Any LNfags know what happened afterwards?
it's worth watching, but it does that evangelion-style thing where it sets up a bunch of cool characters who rarely if ever actually do anything cool
the anime ends on a low note
Shizuo beats everyone up.
Shizuo beats everyone up, again.
Mikado goes batshit.
Izaya gets stabbed, ends up in the hospital, and nobody goes to visit him.
>and nobody goes to visit him
I'm pleased by this.
Seems pretty cool. The Russians certainly sounded like there were going to play a part when they were introduced so I'm glad that happened.
Any actual progress on the head/ does the first and second ep girl ever regain relevance later? Seems like a wasted set up if not
>does the first and second ep girl
Who are you talking about?
What happens to Kida in the novels?
izumi breaks his hand and he's crippled for life, then someone gets hit by a car and he turns into a recluse
the whole thing kind of goes to shit
then celty gets her head back, goes insane, and starts wrecking the city
it's pretty fucked
Interesting. Are the novels all translated? If so, how's the quality of the translation?
vns are too much text for a fan to translate properly, and even if one does it's far too much work to edit
it's time to bite the bullet and start learning japanese. It's really not as hard as you think
Durarara aired 4 years ago, where the fuck is my second season Brainsbase? Things were just about to get good.
Also Celty is Moe as fuck.
Where the fuck did the time go? I miss when people tried to troll DRRR threads by claiming it was Yaoishit even with Celty existing and the LNs upping the Yuri.
>then celty gets her head back, goes insane, and starts wrecking the city
Ha that's pretty cool
I don't think it's very hard. In theory, learning a language should be pretty easy. The grammar has already been laid out in countless textbooks and it isn't intellectually challenging. But like most of the people here I'm just a lazy piece of shit.
Besides, the Index LN translations are decent, aren't they?
middle = best girl
If a second season ever does come out then I hope that Firo and Ennis show up for a cameo much like how Isaac and Miria did. After all I think that they should be in Japan by the time DRRR is taking place anyway.
Why is Shizuo so handsome?
Would you deepthroat Celty?
are the light novels translated?
Only bits and pieces of them if I recall.
I heard they were better 3 :
Why is it that whenever someone types it that way I always end up reading it as "DUUUURRR"?
Agreed, there's just something about her that makes me love her.
She has a lovely personality and is cute in an understated way.
Too bad people like that don't exist in real life...
3D a shit
I tried really hard to like this series /a/. It's not so much that it was bad, I mean it was decent enough to finish, but can some /a/non explain the appeal of durarara to me?
What's with the shittiness of the LN translations, and with LN translations in general?
I understand that the language is supposed to be simple, analogous to, say, Harry Potter-tier prose. But the translations just come out sounding as if they were authored by people who have severe brain damage.
Is it just because translators suck at English?
I guess I really should learn Japanese...
It's a pain in the ass. If you don't have QC/editing after TL it's most of the time going to read like shit.
I've been translating stuff here and there fron Japanese on /a/ and as a native French speaker, translating between two languages that you're not a native speaker of is hard as fuck and the result is most of the time awkward.
So awkward I usually regret translating and want to kill myself afterwards.
He likes talking a lot. Edgyness is a way to get away with it without revealing his intentions much.
I guess that makes sense.
Maybe if I learn Japanese, I should do some LN translation as a way to improve.
I guess he is the kind of person who likes the sound of his own voice.
it watches like a soap opera, which i guess its how its supposed to be done since bacanno is basically the same way. takes a bit of getting used to as most anime are more linear.
shit has its pros and cons. good characterization and the story really starts to build up once you start to see how everyone ties in with everyone else. the down side is up until them its kinda boring and i asked myself what the point was during a lot of episodes
Only in /a/ is edgy a buzzword. There's no such thing as a stereotypicallu edgy, much less it describes how Izaya acts like.
It goes to crap at the end.
Walker a best.
>2 year timeskip
>Any actual progress on the head/ does the first and second ep girl ever regain relevance later? Seems like a wasted set up if not
She was anime original
Is the LN better than the anime?
Better pacing. Everything happens in a non-chronological order like Baccano though.
>Maybe if I learn Japanese, I should do some LN translation as a way to improve.
probably not for a good long time. You'll know what I mean when you try. Just proofreading someone else's manga translation is incredibly difficult. You have to rephrase the characters' statements to make the page flow right in your language while preserving the meaning as much as possible.
You can kind of get into the groove sometimes and do a bunch of pages very quickly, and then you run into チィ~ッス or あげぽよ or some other horible gyaru telephone slang and just sit there for half an hour scratching your head
I fucking hated one of those MCs, the learder of the $. Little indecisive cunt that never did anything for any one. I nearly dropped the series so many times because of him.
I tried watching but I couldn't edure Isayama. He is too annoying and too "Aizen" , as in, he does what he wants whenever he wants, everybody knows his behind almost all of the bullshit happening and nobody does jack shit. Made me mad
