a friend once told me that surfing in the deepweb found a serie of lost and hidden episodes of some animes and one of the was sakura card captor the reason of why that episodes never went aired was due it content and i was thinking that maybe you mighty and wise people of /a/ may know something about it and if it is real also maho shojo discussion threat
Maybe you friend just found the japanese version of CCS, murricahns just remixed the series as they did with robotechrobotech
I suppose you are one of those who grew up/watched the Nelvana dub, which, besides of being atrocious,it was heavily butchered.
So yes,The original Japanese Card Captor Sakura had certain content that was modified or taken out from that dub,to the point to even eliminate whole episodes.
Go and watch the sub if you have the chance.
Tekkaman Blade (Teknoman) and such were also cut all over the place, no?
my friend who prefers the american dub (I know, wtf right?) tells me that they did actally dub all 70 episodes of the anime but most never aired for some reason and you can find the rest of them on DVD I think
The American run of it was cut to hell and ended up as about 40 episodes, glorious Canada got it nearly unedited and all the episodes.
They never put the whole dub out on DVD in North America, it sold abyssmally compared to the full sub run we got, which I still regret not having the cash for when it was selling.
Good thing for you Canadians.
Smething similar happened with the Latin American version, except it got translated and adapted directly from the Japanese one (not the American or Canadian)and without any edits or censorship.
It got pretty popular with the 6th and 7th graders at the time in where I live.
So you want to know the reason why it never aired the right way in your country or I'll leave it to you to watch the subs and find out?
I dunno, he watched it online like normal people, I just assumed where that it came from a DVD release
is it the gay relationship between yuki and toya or the pedophilloic relationship between rika and the teacher?
so... you are telling me ,that what i can found is just stuff like , this?
I think Latin America even retained the original names.
I watched it while it aired on Teletoon back in 2000 or so, though I was too old to be watching girly cartoons. Not that that has changed at all, I just stopped caring.
All of it.
Also,Tomoyo/Madison being a lesbian for Sakura.
The thing I find weird is that (if I remember well)the Nelvana butcher also edited any sort of signals of Syaoran having a crush in Sakura.
nigga you know I meant the cut episodes
we will have no romantic relationships in our kids show.
>I think Latin America even retained the original names.
You are correct.
The funny thing is that the commercials in Cartoon Network (where it aired) used the American names "Julian" or "Tori".
I gotta be honest,CSS wouldn't have reached such popularity in Latin Anerica if it wasn't for the nicely done dub.
>nicely done dub
Yeah, Canada didn't get that. I still don't know what kept me watching it until the story started developing, though I'm glad I did.
Did you guys get the original OPs and EDs, or did you get our wonderful and terrible work?
this was great
It was, but I'm completely divided on it now that I've seen and heard the originals. It's still something I like, but entirely for nostalgia reasons.
I honestly think it's a better song than DREAMING! DREAMING!
which made me jump each time an episode started
Yes,we did get the original OP and EDs.
I don't remember how,but managed to watch the OP of the French version years ago.I remember it was kinda catchy, but still, what the fuck?
Are you sure about that? I know Quebec got CCS pretty much edit free, but I don't recall the same for the English version.
I just feel that it really misrepresents the show. Sure, that's not alwasy a bad thing if you're doing something actually subversive or lampshading something, but they just tried and make it appear to be aimed at a totally different audience.
Fuck, I love well done foreign covered anime OPs and EDs. Germany and Italy have some amazing ones.
Yeah, I watched it all. You might have been picking up a US broadcast.
Fucking what? No we didn't. Teletoon had the same dub as the US.
That's actually what they tried doing though. English dub started off with Li's intro episode and tried shoe-horning him in as the lead. I don't know why they bothered, Sailor Moon was a pretty big success with guys and most everyone knew that was a show aimed at girls.
Same dub yes. Same episode editting, no.
Canada had the full run of episodes. The US heavily cut and re-editted and reordered episodes and only wound up with 39 episodes after the fact.
Now with source, because why not.
>The English version (Cardcaptors) was done in 2 versions. Nelvana dubbed all 70 episodes (certain episodes were omitted from broadcast in the US, and then shown later in the UK).
>As a result, the US episode layout was oriented on the action packed episodes with Sakura and Li, while other English versions featured all the episodes in the same order as in CCS. The only major change in the English dub was the non-heterosexual scenes, names of characters, and various other scenes.
>The UK and Canadian version also had the first 2 seasons merged together to form one whole season. This meant the first season was based on the Clow Cards and the second season on the transformation into Star Cards. The opening song for the first and second seasons is the same, though the animation scenes were changed to reflect the events of the season. Additionally, there is a basic title screen used for the episodes that composed of the first. The title screen used in episodes of the 2nd season (with images of Sakura, Li, and Eli) was also used for the episodes that were cut from the American version, but aired in the Canada, the UK, and Australian versions.
I didn't even know you could have a worse version then the one we got. I pity you Amerifats.
Catchy you,catchy me
The version we got was a fucking mess. The episodes ran on Kids WB had three to four minutes slashed off ON AVERAGE, but considering how atrocious the dubbing was in terms of dialog (ie. FUNKY LUNCH MADISON, Syaoran being able to capture Clow cards by himself) and acting (Tori, Julian, and Keeeeero: The first Ed, Edd n Eddy VA get together), I'm not sure if having a fifth of an episode removed was a good or bad thing.
