this is amazing.
did it sold well? will I ever get a S3?
I don't think there is enough manga material for S3. At least that's what some mangafag said when S2 ended.
The manga sells well, TV viewings are decent, sales for the anime however aren't (around 2000s-3000s). Seeing as the anime is more of promotion of the manga it's not as though we can't hope for a third season. There's enough interest in the manga and it's ongoing.
S1+S2 took almost 17 volumes. We're at 23 atm, so it wont be soon.
I also dont get why isnt this discussed more often.
Apparently they get subventions from the Ministry of culture to promote karuta among young people. So even if it does not sell well, they can hope for a budget.
I actually preferred the anime more than the manga for this series, but that's probably because the manga art is quite messy.
actual game is actually fun to watch but god, they last very long. chihayafuru plays down several aspects of the game (dead cards for example)
so, what's the actual powerlevel ranking of this title? Developments past the S2 tv arc is making me disoriented.
>did it sold well?
That's irrelevant, it'll get a S3 when there's enough manga volumes to adapt.
No and no.
Madhouse will be dead by the time there's enough material.
This show is about a girl having 2 boy after her right ?
>I also dont get why isnt this discussed more often.
It's been a while since we got scans, hasn't it?
Not as long as NTV is around.
It's pretty secondary to the story, it focuses more on the cards than anything else.
I see, too bad, I hate girl having "harem".
Taichi best boy
>mfw he will never win
He just needs to grow a pair.
And beat Arata.
Chihaya still loves Arata way more than him. Friendzoned forever.
Why is she so perfect /a/?
>opens youtube for ed
>"Chihaya x X is my favorite! whats yours?"
shipperfags are the worst part of this fandom. totally missing the point.
Hold me /a/.
That's only because he's been away for so long.
In the manga, it's revealed that Chihaya loves karuta.
Good. She deserves much better.
She is too pure to be tainted by men.
>Good. Taichi deserves much better.
>still not confessing
are nips really this inferior?
there is no better, not in this show.
eternal suffering ;_;
Good. I don't want this to turn into a romance show. You can keep the relationships as a minor subplot, but fuck them if it becomes the main point.
I loves the clothes in that show.
Like fatty said, traditional clothes are wonderful.
>yfw Taichi becomes Meijin and wins the Chihayab owl
not gonna happen
I'll be surprised if he doesn't become the Meijin.
I still can't graps the workings of karuta. for example, if taking a wrong card from a wrong side is foul how could arata work his cross-sweep?
The manga seems to indicate otherwise. Taichi's character development has become a central point in the plot.
>Taichi becomes Meijin, Arata gets da Chihaya
That's what will happen, mark my words.
I'd rather have Chihaya end up with neither though.
Chihayafuru is publicly funded, it just almost caught up to the manga itself so we're not getting a s3.
You know a show is good when they can make a boring ass sport like that entertaining to watch
if the card that is being read is on the same side, taking the wrong card on the same field isn't a foul. That's why people can do stuff like slapping the whole field despite how much of an asshole move that is.
taichi's recent development is almost shounen. first tourney in class A and making all the way to finals, losing only by 2 cards, and now Suou gives clue how arata is probably the only person who can overcome him, bar chihaya who cant challenge him anyway.
i cant figure out which would i prefer, Suou actually retiring or he discovering passion once again after fighting harada. they both sounds pretty awful.
It's 6 volumes behind. In a year there could be enough material for another season.
Hikaru no Go is better.
Why don't NBA tier black people play it then? They've got hands the size of pizzas.
You know a show is good when the main character is the most popular one.
not moe enough
Because blacks can,t into poetry.
>government giving money to make anime
Congratulations, this is one of the stupidest questions I've seen on /a/.
No different than PBS or BBC. The annual young animator training specials are government funded too.
Because no one plays it competitively outside of Japan.
This is actually one of Chihaya's reason for playing. If you become the best in Japan, you're the best in the world.
Because everyone agrees that Chihaya is best girl and Queen is a close second. So there's nothing else to say really.
>Taichi becomes Meijin
I'll feel really conflicted if that happens because that would seem really unfair to Arata. He's been wanting to become Meijin since he was a little boy and has been working his as off since then.
Doesn't Arata actually take cards from both sides at some point? How is that legal?
In case you missed the last chapter (126 raw):
Next chapter should be in issue 6/2014, i.e., the mid March issue (that's why it wasn't discussed much recently).
Chihayafuru week in Awara in June...
Yeah, they are still promoting Chihayafuru and karuta, but not with a new anime season.
I love the art for this series...
Desk/Kana needs to happen.
Let me dream.
Is karuta popular in Japan? Does the average person know about it?
Let me dream.
They know it more as a drunken family game during New Years rather than the competitive sport that the anime shows.
But sometimes I can't recognize the characters.
That's Chihaya and Shinobu, right?
Why are they so perfect?
yfw Taichi x Arata and Chihaya x Shinobu
And Taichi has been in love with Chihaya since he was a little boy but Chihaya pays him no mind
>Taichi has been in love with Chihaya
Anime-only. In the manga he started liking her when they were in high school.
>Taichi's Chihaya Bowl trophy case
Then how was the flashback in the manga? Wasn't he jealous of Arata because of his friendship with Chihaya?
Well, actually it started during the Queen's match, followed by Chihaya saying how she found her passion 6 years before that. She meets Arata (the newspaper scene), and it continues off from there.
I don't remember the exact details, but he was jealous/bitter about Arata, but it wasn't because of Chihaya. He just seemed more like a bully with no specific reason for picking on the guy.
Thanks for the info. Then I don't see problem with Taichi becoming Meiji and not getting chihaya
I'd be conflicted simply because that's been Arata's goal since he was a kid. What's the point if he "wins" Chihaya when that wasn't what he's been working at for years on end?
If we saw that he was just talented, but didn't work at it, then I wouldn't really care if he lost. However, we do see and hear about how much he practices.
Although I said that I wouldn't mind seeing Taichi winning, I agree with your statement. I like them both but Taichi has had more screentime and saw more of his struggle. At least in the anime
>At least in the anime
Yeah, poor Arata got the really short end in the anime. We at least get to see him more and his development in the manga. The manga places a little more on the other characters.
I enjoyed the anime a lot and I'm hopeful for a season 3 but I fear reading the manga would undermine my experience. Should I start it?
>Should I start it?
I find it to be more enjoyable than the anime, but that could be because I started reading it before the anime was ever announced.
But anyways, definitely give it a try. There's more screentime and development for the other characters as well.
It's legal as long as you take the correct one.
If he missed it, he'd be in deep shit.
Personally, I think Arata will become Meijin first but eventually lose to Taichi while Chihaya defeats Shinobu in the Queen match simultaneously.
>I'd be conflicted simply because that's been Arata's goal since he was a kid.
You should know better that this series doesn't reward effort just for the sake of it.
That'd be kind of hard to do since we see Chihaya going up against Shinobu for the Queen's title in her final year of high school. Right now they're in their 2nd year, and the matches are: Harada/Suou and Inokuma/Shinobu.
We can assume that Arata/Taichi will win the Meijin title at the same time Chihaya wins the Queen's title. The earliest that any of the 3 can become the Meijin/Queen are in their 3rd year.
Then they get together and make a karuta champion child.
It's obvious that Arata will go "you know what, fuck winning, I just want Chihaya".
But they've got entrance exams to study for in third year...
Taichi's mom probably won't even let him play karuta next year.
>Taichi's mom probably won't even let him play karuta next year.
Wow, I can actually see this happening.
>Taichi's mom probably won't even let him play karuta next year.
You know she will. If not, then his only chances to get the title are when he gets into college.
Taichi's mom will relent after some passionate scene where she sees how much it means to him.
Why is Chihaya's sister so useless? She's not even pretty yet is a model.
Taichi will find a way to do both things
She's nearly identical to Chihaya except she wears makeup.
Are entrance exams really that difficult in Japan?
I got into college while playing WoW 4hours a day.
I suppose, mangas always make a big deal about it even if I think that with good time management you can do more stuff than just study
I can't tell if they're making a big deal because it's extremely hard, or because they are so autistic with muh Asian honor. Never heard of a single person who went to cram school before entering my uni.
What college you get into will pretty much define your career potential in Japan. It's not that they are extremely 'hard' persay, but they are extremely competitive. You want the highest marks possible so that the elite college you're applying for will accept you.
Which subs should I watch for this show?
Been meaning to give it a try, but only if it ends off with some closure. Are people together by the end of this thing?
It hasn't ended yet.
Zurako for first.
Commie for second. Yeah, I know. But they actually did a pretty good job. The only alternative for S2 is HS and they don't do the fancy font for the poetry reading.
No, manga is ongoing.
There's hardly romance in the anime since the main girl doesn't care about love or boys. Not sure if the manga improves in the romance subplot
The anime or the manga?
I don't know why you'd have to defend Commie for the second season but not for the first. Zurako used Commie's subs.
BDs man. They right all wrongs.
The manga. The anime adaption is faithful so of course it doesn't have closure. It's expected to have more seasons.
Only way to win Chihaya's heart is to be the best at Karuta though no?
She's not some karuta floozy.
She said that in the omake IIRC, right?
If that were really the case, she would be all over Suou.
Why do people cheer for Taichi again?
Because he is best boy obviously.
Checking in the anime at least, he always sticks to one side when he hits multiple cards. Is there a special rule about getting the correct card as well? This page just says it's a foul to touch the wrong side. http://www.karuta.or.jp/howto/howto3.html
