So, here's the deal. Monster is gonna be picked up by HBO with Guillermo del Toro writing it. How bad can it get? Place your bets /a/!
Hbo does pretty good adaptations. I could see it being good
I wonder if they'll keep the German setting.
I bet they're going to add sex scenes.
They're not gonna do it anymore. They already have True Detective for the serial killer thriller thingy.
>Matthew McConaughey switching from True Detective to Monster in order to play Tenma
Del toro is super good
I hope everyone speaks Japanese.
We're talking about Guillermo del fucking toro here, it's gonna be gud
it was already a collection of cliches from western movies in serial form, making this whole thing redundant
I don't see how it can really be ruined, the manga read like pretty standard mystery-thriller-novel fare to me.
name a single good movie he's made
You guys see Del Toro's EVA movie?
It sucked, so will this
ethnically diverse cast set in modern day America I bet
HBO shows are known to divert from the source material, sometimes for the better but more often than not for the worse.
That said, del Toro has said very clearly that he intends for Monster to be an extremely faithful adaptation. No extra filler will be added to pad the series out into 8 seasons. If it only goes for 3-4, then that's that.
El laberinto del fauno
I bet it's going to be overrated
and shit, don't forget about shit
> Pacific Rim sucked
That's objectively wrong.
Is there a single actor good enough for the role of Johan?
How will they pull off the crossdressing
I don't even know who could do it. Such a hard character to portray.
Heath Ledger but he's dead
Game of Thrones is pretty faithful. They just sort of streamlined the series. I bet they will get the fundamentals of the series and extend them, but cut the filler entirely.
I wonder if Tenma will actually be a Japanese cast doctor in Germany?
Now there's a show that needs some surgery.
Pretty much the biggest problem
HBO would be able to find someone. They are usually great at casting
Is HBO really doing Monster? I heard there was a rumour of it happening, but everyone was convinced it would be like the Akira movie and die before production starts.
I'm sure everyone race wise will be cast right. That alone will give it more merit.
I wonder if they will add random sex scenes, since it is HBO we're talking about.
>Del Toro's EVA movie
>being this fucking autistic
Time to abandon ship.
>Game of thrones
>Faithful in any shape or form
Clearly you've only watched season 1.
Nope, I've read the books up till a feast for crows and have watched season 3. The only thing I've noticed being cut are smaller characters and shit that has little impact on the overall story. They keep the essentials in, and everything else is seen as secondary.
Of course, why else would anyone watch this garbage?
Time for steamy Roberto sex.
i used to have faith in del taco because of the projects he undertook, but he's failed to deliver too many times to really be considered a decent writer/director.
Thats not a faithful adaptation then/
Having read all 5 SoIaF books out so far (refuse to read the leaked Winds of Winter chapters), though admittedly only after seeing the first two seasons of the show (Finished Dance before S3 started), I'd say the books and show are roughly even. There are some things that the books do better (Arya's tickler kill) and some things the show does better (Replacing Arya's time with Roose and having her be Tywin's cupbearer instead for example).
Tonally the show is lighter compared to the books, but you need to dial things back a bit when you're moving to a format with a wider audience. It is an "unfaithful" adaptation in that it isn't 1:1 but 1:1 adaptations do not happen ever and never will.
HBO's a pretty decent network and Del Toro's done some good stuff. There's no reason to think this'll go too bad unless they start changing where it takes place for no reason. It's not like Monster has anything inherently fantastical that demands it be animated.
Did he really say that?
Yayyyyy coherence on 4channnn
How he handles Johan's cross-dressing should be interesting.
I like the books and the show. I have few complaints and they are minor at best.
It's like with LOTR I love the books and I enjoy the movies, but being a moron I can keep the canon worlds apart in my head and thoroughly enjoy both.
No character I really gave a shit about has been cut yet and some changes have been for the best.
I'm up for it. Del Toro's made some good films and he really wants to make it a faithful adaption.
> but being a moron
Forgot a "not"
OP here. It's not Guillermo del Toro what terrifies me, it's the HBO part. The blood, tits and scowling channel doing Monster just sounds wrong. I dunno abour Game of Thrones, I could never be bothered to check it out but it just feels like Monster is not up their alley. I've been hurt before...
I smell Tom Felton as Johan...
i'm just afraid of everyone telling me about that new amazing series nobody knows about yet..
Del Toro haven't even made a pilot for this yet. Chill the fuck out.
I hope Tenma gets to fuck Nina in this one.
Are they gonna make Tenma a white guy?
>not humoring them and enjoying conversating with them
