Well yeah, that's the issue. I mean, you just have to make it so that Goonswarm doesn't enjoy doing it. Have an exit planned so no battle takes place in-system, or have an alliance with a rival force to protect you.

Maybe it would have to be a nomadic government, stealing sovereignty over systems for a few months before being chased out by Goonswarm. You could be space gypsies!

So all their buget went into the latter part of ep 19? It's kinda funny that the healer of the noob group

>>
>>101783201
I think you can charge usage fees for your space station, which would be the reason for people to be part of the government. Or have a system of patrols set up so that people could mine safely since your government would be clearing out the mobs. Or be friends to all the major alliances and make your space station an open trading zone so everyone could come to buy and sell there.

I wanted to point out a few things regarding the subtler elements of the Adventurers battlefield operations in episode 19 that I found to be quite remarkable. In a sentence, the Adventurers have successfully integrated real world battlefield innovations developed since World War 2; innovations which have since become part of standard modern warfare doctrine. Before going any further, I will attach a picture of the legendary Battle of Agincourt and suggest you to wiki search it if you're not familiar with it already.

The biggest standout innovation is the development of a rudimentary command and control center by Shiroe. The obvious benefits are real time communication, real time updates, and the ability of commanders to react to battlefield developments at the drop of a dime. However, most of you probably conceptualize this as

>if group A gets in trouble, they can request group B for support
>if all groups are in trouble, they can request Headquarters for reinforcements or a withdrawal order
>if all groups completed their objectives, they can request Headquarters for new orders

What many people (specifically armchair anons that question the wisdom of the order of battle and formation deployment) did not conceptualize was how the CNC system directly influenced the deployment, group tactics, and overall strategy of the Adventurer army.

But first, a little history lesson.

Lets rewind back to World War 2. All military forces were neatly divided into Army, Navy, and Air Force branches with their own command hierarchies, priorities, and internal politics. For example, Hitler would say "take this objective" and the Army would do its own tank thing while the Air Force did its own air thing. All requests for intel and support would go back to headquarters, where new orders would be disseminated.

But the legendary General George Patton and his command staff made an innovation when Patton took command of the Third Army in Normandy. Prioritizing a speedy, thunderous offensive through enemy lines, Patton required close synchronization of air recon and air support alongside his continouous ground offensive. To this end, the Third Army was empowered with a shitload of military intelligence officers and the attachment of XIX Tactical Air Command. Together, they employed a technique called the "armored column cover", where an officer in one of the lead tanks of an attack force directly issued orders to air support - removing a set of hurdles in the traditional command and control structure while improving overall battlefield efficiency.

How does this relate to Log Horizon, though? Lets first take a look at what the Adventurers could have done according to proven real life and video game strategies.

This example represents classical pre-gunpowder warfare. An army is divided into masses in the center and on the sides, and place either cavalry or defensive forces on the flanks. Warfare is simple: hold the center, flank the sides, encircle the enemy, destroy the enemy, and prevent any of this happening to your army. Ranged support would be concentrated in the rear guard, and the main bulk of the army can be directly reinforced. Squad leaders would be embedded on the front, while the army commander would be far away in the rear with some freedom to send new orders and fresh reinforcements.

>>101783552

This example represents typical MMORPG field combat with collision detection. Its basically two dynamic blobs constantly striking blows at each other until one blob is weakened enough to be penetrated by the other. This strategy empowers each individual to act independently and use his or her best judgment to respond to dynamic battlefield changes, rewarding brave individuals that take advantage of a sudden weakness. However, a strong, organized flanking maneuver towards an exposed column of support classes can easily lead to swift annihilation. Because of the chaotic nature of this strategy, army commanders would be limited to encouraging attacks or retreats at certain times.

This example represents MMORPG field combat withOUT collision detection. With armies stacked on top of each other, concentrating fire on single targets become more difficult. Group heals and optimal field positioning also enhances this strategy defensively. Offensively, this strategy requires army commanders who will call out specific soldiers to be targeted one at a time with area of effect attacks sprinkled in. And because a typical rule of MMORPGs is to impose a unit limit on the number of targets hit by an area of effect attack or spell, armies are encouraged to stay as close and unified as possible while picking off stragglers and independent groups that stray away from the main army stack. Because army commanders are stacked with the rest of the army, field replacements are easy in case some of them are targeted.

Now lets look at the Adventurers battle formation for a moment. You might have asked yourself, "what the fuck are they doing?"; but try to ask "what field strategy are they employing?" instead. It doesn't look like a classical formation, it looks more organized than a blob, and collision detection is on. The answer is actually all of the above, combined into a new formation to confront the reality of post-World Fraccion combat.

First, lets chop this sucker up.
Warmaster Krusty intentionally divided the elite elements of the army into 4 groups of 24. In addition, he is at the head of a spearhead company, with two blob formations on the flanks and a huge reserve in the rear.
First off, those gaps between the columns aren't vulnerabilities in the formation. Those are intentional gaps which leave each raid group with enough room to operate freely across the battlefield. Going back to the Battle of Agincourt, one of the biggest problems was that the French army packed itself so tightly it had little room to maneuver or to react to the enemy. This specifically addresses that problem, while inflicting the same problem on the goblin horde within this narrow pass.
Another reason why there are gaps is a simple fact that the Adventurers aren't made of disciplined soldiers or full time raiders, but independent video gamers with free will. By incorporating the blob strategy into the formation, each raid is empowered by the individual strengths of its own members. Each of the four legion raid groups have been entrusted to deal with leaks in the gaps in their own way.

The two blobs on the flanks are noticeably larger than any single group in the center. That is because these blobs were intended to act exactly as the blob strategy would dictate - independent will to deal with oncoming enemies, while remaining as a loosely cohesive force of video gamers. And since the heaviest fighting is occuring at the tip of the spearhead center, the flanks probably will not be overwhelmed and retain the option to collapse into an echelon formation in case the spearhead collapses and the center is pushed back.

Now lets take a look at the centerpiece of this formation: the tip of the spear.

As Princess Lenessia astutely points out, Warmaster Krusty is alone far in front of the rest of the spear group. In any other formation previously mentioned, he would be the sore thumb that would draw the focus of attention and be focused down pretty quickly. So why is he out there all alone?

Because vidya games.

Think back to the stack formation. The inverse of its core weakness - a single target in its stack becoming the enemy's focused target - is also true; that all the healers in a stack can combine their efforts to keep a focused target alive. The spearhead formation isn't actually a spearhead, but a stack formation stretched out behind Warmaster Krusty for the sole purpose of supporting him. While the Warmaster draws the bulk of enemy aggro, the concentrated mass of healers keep a constant stream of heals flowing into him - rendering him virtually unkillable so as long as their mana still holds.
>>
Soryy to interrupt but is Nureha 4koma from pixiv? Who is author?
>>
>>101783862

There is another important role behind the Warmaster's specific position on the battlefield. Look back at the rear guard.

Now think back to Agincourt one more time. In that battle, the English stationed their ranged support on the flanks to bombard the center mass. But the rearguard seems so far away that they can't be expected to fulfill this role. There's one thing you need to remember about this positioning: they don't need bows and arrows when they've got motherfucking magic.

>>101783904

And that is where the beauty of the "armored column cover" technique kicks in. Instead of being inside a tank, Warmaster Krusty IS the tank. From his position as the literal leading tank, he directly commands all ranged support to focus firepower on any location of his choosing. And because of the real time element of this combined warfare strategy, he is able to turn the frontline into a huge bubblegrinder; giving the goblin horde no opportunity to reinforce, no chance to plug any holes in their gaps.

From Lenessia's forward observation post on high, the Adventurer's military intelligence officers observe the ebb and flow of the goblin tide and relay to the Warmaster where his attention should be focused. And from his directions, the raid legions react dynamically of their own initiative; and the rearguard continuously support the spearhead with low level beam attacks which combine into a hailstorm of wrath and fury.

>>
>>101783934

This overall battlefield strategy takes into consideration all possible scenarios for the army's deployment and all the strengths of timeworn MMORPG combat, and implements modern warfare tactics - thereby turning an impromptu, numerically inferior militia into a first rate army that takes advantage of the game nature of the ET world to erase its inherent weaknesses. It allows for free thought and range of movement while placing most of the power with its most experienced and disciplined fighters, and it maximizes the full utility of every Adventurer of the army irregardless of level or class. And you know what?

That's pretty fucking awesome.

>anon confirms that the tank was indeed the tank
>>
>>101783444

I think it's interesting that they're bothering to strategize at all. They massively outgun the Goblins; all they had to do was establish themselves at a choke point and let the mindless hordes rush to their death. It's what I would have done, if I was in charge.

But I think Shiroe and co. are treating this battle as a test for things to come. If there's ever a world event where level 90+ mobs attack, they can apply the lessons they're learning now to help combat it.

All in all, it's pretty impressive.

That's different, people focus tanks in lol because they panic and hit whatever is in front of them, which is usually the tank doing his job.

In MMOs you can usually pull up a dps graph, so everyone knows how much dps everyone else is doing. As a result dps players try to beat out other dps and top the charts, no matter the cost- even if it means out-aggroing the tank and dying like a retard.

>LoL
autism injection from someone who was once fairly high ranked at league/boosted for dosh before he realized how shit it of a game it is
the whole "stop focusing the tank" thing is basically an enormous retard trap especially when it comes to AD carries (consistent very squishy ranged dps)
obviously it's good to murder squishy targets first if possible, but the primary obligation of damage-dealers is to deal as much damage as possible for as long as possible which means attacking the tank if no equally safe opportunities present themselves
if your team's backline's three options are attacking the tank, losing positional advantage/safety to attack the enemy backline and not attacking at all the correct choice is to attack the tank
of course, people with minimal understanding of the game's flow see damage on the enemy tank and immediately jump to that as the reason the teamfight was lost- hence "STOP FOCUS TANK WTF"

>Healers don't heal until it's too late

Fucking this. Too many showoffs who don't know the party would appreciate throwing a small DoT on the boss (aggro permitting) more than being healed from 10% HP.

Add that to the fact that most healers get blinkered to the health bars and don't even steal a glance at where everyone is, and you get the tank dying because the entire party moved onto the next batch of mobs out of the healer's range.

I don't know if in FFXIV it's customary to give the healer a player commendation after every dungeon run, but I get one something like 80-90% of the time, even in PUGs, because nobody died, and rarely did anyone get under 50% HP, even with a retard DPS not knowing that the giant numbers placed above a monster's name means something.

>>
>>101784848
Your AD is supposed to stay back and focus whoever is closest to him, but everyone else such as your mid/top/jungle should be rushing the enemy AD/highest damage dealer of the enemy team. Your support should be able to protect and help the AD from the enemies swarming him and if that's not enough have someone else with CC to help him too.

But there needs to be someone going after the damage dealers of the enemy team. At lower skill levels you'll see assassins and people who deal high burst which is meant for the squishies focusing the tank.

in real game situations that situation is an ideal that doesn't frequently happen since getting in range to smack their shit means your damage-dealers are vulnerable to the enemy's frontline
basically, league "tanks" for the most part aren't conventional MMO tanks: very few true taunt/aggro pulling abilities exist and they're built with durability because their primary threat is their CC- and for the most part, if a squishy gets cc'd they'll get dogpiled and that's the end of their story

>>101785051
>At lower skill levels you'll see assassins and people who deal high burst which is meant for the squishies focusing the tank.
fair enough
however, all of this is highly dependent upon team comp and individual power spikes

sorry for shit and probably incomprehensible writing, i'm tired as fuck and probably shouldn't be theorycrafting at all
>>
>>101785189
Yeah, but that's what peel is for. If your own tanks fuck up and focus the enemy tank rather than peeling for the team by drawing the enemy's fire, you're in trouble.
>>
>>101785189
>however, all of this is highly dependent upon team comp and individual power spikes

Indeed it is and it certain situations, it can pay off to focus the tank if he gets too cocky and runs in leaving his team behind allowing for an easy kill and then a 5v4 fight, but in normal circumstances assassins and high burst damage dealers should not be focusing the tank.

There is something I wonder about:
Are people of the land less restricted than adventurers?
The latter have specified powers, while the former can move like ordinary humans.
Or can adventurers fight freestyle while retaining their high level of power?
Their positioning seems to be exactly the same as in an MMO, instead of what you'd expect from people transported into an IRL version of an MMO. Sometimes they do pull freestyle moves (Like the blocks for team scrub in last episode), but those might also be pre-determined animations.
Basically, I'm wondering how high the actual skill aspect is now that everything is real. Beforehand, it was mostly character skill due to how game mechanics work, but now I'm not sure if their character skill has been integrated into them or not. The same goes for crafting - Does Shiroe instinctively have the ability to write up stuff or does he need to improve himself to be capable of using that ability?

And how fucking long was Rundel Haus learning magic? The other kids in his group have been going at it for decades or something, considering the time conversion. How is he as powerful as a lvl 30 or something mage? Shiroe is lvl 90 and 80 years old or something.

And then there's Rundel House and his group of teenage scrubs - Did the other kids ever talk about IRL?
I can't imagine them *not* at least making allusions to it, considering that their game time is maybe a few months, in contrast to their lives that they lived beforehand.
Does the guy know about the wonders of a land without magic?

You can also design quests that can be played by other players.

EXP is an abstraction of experience. They still gain EXP. The penalty for death was EXP loss.
By all means, they should either forget experience directly related to their adventurer skills or not forget anything at all, because EXP is fucking unrelated to their personal learning process. That explains jack shit.

EXP is specifically experience as an adventurer. Otherwise they'd get level bonuses and new classes from real world professions that they had beforehand.
It doesn't make sense that they lose both mundane memories AND EXP. They should lose memories that are directly linked to the amount of EXP they lose - Like the muscle memory that you gained from the last three goblins that you murdered.

Are you talking about losing memories when they die?

I don't get why you need a justification for this. As long as the rules are internally consistent, that's all that really matters to me. I'm glad there's an important consequence to dying instead of just "adventurers are special and dying hurts".
>>
>>101788355
It's "loss of information" from revival.
Basically, the idea is that there is the "mind" and the "body," in the ET world, and they're kinda seperate
For an adventurer, the "mind" is almost perfectly preserved. However, when revived, either by spell or at the cathedral, the "body" loses information, and has to be reconstructed (hence the loss of EXP)

However, just like in real life, the "body" also carries one's memories, and so when someone dies, and the body is corrupt, so are some of the memories.

That's how I remember it being explained in the LN.

Landers, among other things, gain 1/4 of the experience that Adventurers gain and have ordinary life spans. The amount of training a lander would need to do to reach level 90 wuld be four times the amount that an Adventurer would have to. In addition to this, Landers do not respawn and get older, there is a very real possibility that attaining level 90 before they die of old age would be impossible for a lander (assuming they don't get killed before that).

I have a question to the people who have read manga.
Considering that Shiroe give Rundel the adventurer sublass to save him. Wouldn't they give that to some other characters, like Neetprincess? Also what stops them from giving it to all people of the land?

That's also how it was explained in the anime.

The issue that I have with that specifically is that the explanation is that they originally just had the EXP penalty for death, due to the mind/body separation.
Now that mind and body are integrated, it would make far more sense for the memory loss to simply equal the EXP loss - i.e. you lose the memory that is associated with the EXP points that you lose, not some random memory that is completely unrelated.

Then again, they aren't perfectly integrated. Otherwise Shiro would have memories from 80 years of living in that world. Which means that EXP is still an abstraction unrelated to the psyche of the actual person, which is faggotry of a different kind.

This has been answered a lot already but what the hell, once more
1. Shiroe had to use extremely rare phantasmal class drop ingredients to make that contract, acquiring even one more set of these ingredients would be near impossible.
2. Generally, giving the people who severely outnumber you and are only kept from asserting control over you because of your power the same power you have is a bad idea (remember what happened to the Alvs when the Landers got jelly).

EXP I think is different from the memories. I'm pretty sure ones Mana is closer to their what their psyche is (as explained in the part of the LN that makes up the next Episode)
Rather, I think EXP is the body's condition, and such.
When you die, your "mind" is unaffected, and it's only your "body" taking damage.

But as a result of this, information from your "body" is corrupted, including the memories in one's physical brain.
>>
>>101788144
No. Landers cap out at 60th level unless they have special qualities. Guards in the cities get Alv power armour that gives them the abilities of a level 110 adventurer, for example. Ancients are set at level 100 (or at least Elias Hackblade is), but have limitations on them so they don't outshine the players (Elias can't drop a creature below 1/4 HP).

But shouldn't it be easier now that the game is real?
From what I read in these threads, it was a drop of a unique quest. But this being reality, there should be non-quest ways to get that stuff. Maybe by making it yourself or by finding the place where it comes from or by threatening is creator or something.

By the way, one of the episodes mentioned a new level cap of 100. Why would there even be a level cap anymore?
Also, what do levels above 90 grant? World class spells?

Not just once per raid or once per quest, but once EVER.

Once they've dropped, they never drop again. When Elder Tale was a game, it received expansions that added new Phantasmal items every time. Now that it isn't a game, things might be problematic.

But that's what I mean.
This was epic level ink and paper, right?

Now that the world is real, the rules have changed. Quests don't work like in the past anymore, for example.
People can make steam engines. Hell, maybe they can invent space travel at some point.

Why would they not be able to re-create that stuff with enough effort? Or is it specifically ink and paper created by the angels who descended for shits and giggles to let people fight over that stuff? But then wouldn't you be able to try to get on that god's good graces by having an epic level priest?
>>
>>101788761
It can't be made (they are raw ingredients that he then made into the contract) and the only way to re-acquire them would be to locate the original source of the items since Landers don't give out infinite amounts of quest items any more (because it's real now). Basically, if it's something that can be found in the game world then you can only acquire it by tracking down the source (if you need dragon wing skin you would need to kill a dragon and physically extract the skin). If on the other hand it is not something that can occur naturally in the world such as a leaf from a plant that is extinct then you simply can't get it any more.

I can understand the "it's made from a now extinct tree" line of reasoning. But there's no reason as to why it should not be replicable.

What are the levels? I don't want to say anything wrong.
And what do you mean by production class? Crafted with crafting skills?

But what stops them from, for example, breaking into the Kingdom's vault where the rest of the stuff is stored? Or hunting down the NPC who made it and forcing him to do it again? Or spending a few centuries on recreating the item?

Imagine you are playing Ragnarok Online. You're High Priest, your only offensive move that works against normal creatures that aren't undead is Holy Light. Shitty Spell that targets only one creature.
Marie is something like that. Full support class. This isn't WoW with your shitty shadow priests that do more dps than mages.

Also in classic MMO scalling is more linear than in WoW. So hundreds of low level mobs are still danger even to high level characters. Also they don't seem to have way to replenish their MP very fast, they have to be out of combat to replenish them.
Don't assume all MMO works like WOW. They don't

Well, theoretically, that isn't entirely true any more. For the most part you are correct, almost every phantasmal class item could only ever be acquired once but say as an example there was a phantasmal class item that was a drop from a raid boss that was literally a piece of that bosses body (or possibly an item it wielded). Theoretically with the new rules of real world ET it would be possible to physically extract that item from the boss and thereby gain as many copies of that item as you wanted (since the monsters respawn infinitely). For a simple example see the boars that they were capturing for making the crescent burgers, if you killed them they dropped a small amount of food BUT if you captured and then physically extracted the food from them you could get much more. If you do it manually, you can ignore the game rules for the most part.

For real "arcade" action you need C&C Generals. That game is simply glorious for its short and intense matches. A while ago, I saw a replay of a dude who killed three units and a building with an unarmed unit just by being that damn good at micro and situational awareness.

Actually crafting is the easy part, as long as you craft the components separately then simply put them together it should be possible. Wielding is a problem because weapons in the ET world have minimum level requirements based on how much damage they do and since a gun is a naturally high damage item it will naturally require an unreasonably high level to wield.

See it from the positive end:
Once you are lvl 200, you can do pretty much anything. As a crafter, you'll likely be a rocket scientist. As a combat role, you'd be able to use any weapon.

It's a bit like Dust, where you need to play a few months to even be capable of utilizing all basic weapons and suits.

I do wonder if the introduction of guns could cause a gunner class to be created. But that would likely require new adventurers to appear in the world. You can't re-class, can you?

By the way, it seems like Shrine Maidens can handle some melee.
Could a Samurai learn spells? Or invent new techniques?

Does the game have a skill tree or linear progression?

ET is missing all the ranged combat, not only guns but bows, arbalests, crossbows, siege engines, cannons. Makes kinda sense if it's based on a classic mmorpg -ranged combat mechanics are not easy to implement and balance-

>Too bad, they practically shat on the sequel
What sequel? The funny part was that there was a member of EA's board of directors that always supported C&C. That's why we got any titles at all.
He lost his position. That's why Generals 2 was cancelled.
Then again, Frostbite alone fucked the game even before that. Fuck whoever decided on that engine.

The saddest part is that there's been two potential successors (Universe at War and Red Alert 3), but the former failed for reasons that want me to Jihad on Sega, while the latter was *too* simplistic (Seriously, it would be a serious contender if it was slightly more complex) and had major issues due to extreme amounts of haters. I wish someone would do a community patch for RA3, like they did for CCG:ZH.
Then again, the 1.06 patch for ZH is about a decade or so old and there's been a few known bugs that for some reason no one wants to fix (Quads get weaker if they get full scrap in addition to heroic status, due to engine limitations on damage values).

No, Code Geass wasn't Anti-American or Anti-Britain. The empire of Britannia was based on the medieval British Empire (which is now defunct), this is blindingly obvious for example, the British Empire (which was sometimes referred to as Britannia) at one point controlled 1 third of the world just as the Empire of Britannia from CG was one of 3 super powers each controlling roughly 1/3 of the world each. This fact is reinforced by the names of the Britannian Nightmares (I mean come on, you didn't notice all the historic names of British Empire knights?).

So yeah, no hate for currently existing countries or nations, I personally consider it to be a theoretical alternate timeline wherein the Roman-British Empire never dissolved and continued to war with and conquer other countries.

I've gotten quite a few bad ones while leveling since they tend to coast on the basis of you cant party without them but I also have a tendency to MAKE them use mp since im taking into account the expected mp regen and safety net the group should have if proper buffs are used. If the party can survive it then taking extra damage to deal more dps is perfectly fine. Usually the problem with this is when the other dps suck more than I expected them to so I have a massively pissed off monster that should have been already dead aimed at me.
