>The Black Swordsman
>The Slightly Black Swordsman
You goofed by posting an SAO anime pic OP, if you posted an LN pic instead then there would still be a 1% chance the thread doesn't get taken over by shitposters.
>The Black Swordsman
More like the lonely beater.
He looks better in red and white.
Fuck off and take your shit show with you.
the LN is still fucking shit though.
I think SAO threads need to get the Naruto treatment
Why must you post this and make me somewhat angry?
berserk thread? berserk thread.
MY SWORD IS A TOOL OF JUSTICE
I think Kirito gets too much hate. He was a pretty rational MC. and better than any faggot harem lead.
please tell me this is not said in SAO.
>two years worth of semen
Kirito is a faggot harem lead, and a massive Mary Sue.
>someone who hasn't read the LN
>saying something that wasn't in the LN,
The Alicization arc will be completely published before they get off the boat.
>3 girls wanted his D through out the whole series, LN included.
>2 of them gave up.
I think whit posters should calm their sassy
That gif. Holy shit.
/a/ is such fucking shit. I can't believe you won't accept SAO just because
>hurrr kirito is an edgy faggot!
>normals like SAO and this means it's shit!
Get a life you moeshit loving hipsters. SAO wasn't that bad and you know it. Only the second half. and the LN isn't bad
I actually thought it was going to be a really good show up until around episode 5 or so, when it was just suddenly "ZOMG HE'S THE BEST AT THIS GAME LOL HE'S SUCH A LONER BADASS"
Seriously. The premise of this story is amazing, how do you fuck it up so badly?
Says the garbage loving underage.
Holy shit, check out those doubles.
You sound somewhat defensive, anon.
16.5 is only marginally less canon than, say, the Material Editions. Just accept that GLOP exists and that there's nothing you can do about it. Those who want to harp on glop will continue to harp on glop. "muh canon" ain't going to do shit.
- Asuna - won
- Liz - "One-Month Truce"
- Silica - "One-Month Truce"
- Sugu - BAWWWWWWWWWW HE'S ACTUALLY MY ONII-CHAN
- Alice - a shit. But she doesn't stop fighting, if it ends at all like the webnovel.
So 5 girls. One won, 3 more or less gave up, and one more is still vying against all odds.
I don't accept it because it's bad. It's a terrible story, with an unlikable MC. Didn't they devote like 4 episodes to Kirito and Asuna taking a vacation in the woods?
>being mugged by the last black guy in the universe
in a post apocalyptic world
That movie was boring as shit.
Everyone knows vocal contrarian hipsters are not relevant. SAO S2 will dominate the board just like S1 and many laughs will be had.
But the story isn't bad. For what it is, it's very good
Klein was not the MC.
I probably would have liked Kirito if he was a secondary character that showed up every once in a while to help Klein and friends.
Glop exists. I was just being literal, when I said it wasn't in the LN.
On your second point...
>- Silica - "One-Month Truce"
Yeah, I didn't get this point. Her side-story seemed to indicate that she admired him, but didn't point to liking him romantically, but more as a brother figure.
That scene at the end of Fairy Dance though...
And Alice so far doesn't seem to want Kirito's D yet. so it's 4 at most. (which is only marginally less worst)
3 Episodes and a half. Yeah. Though, two of them were all about "muh daughteru"
It is though, at least the way the executed it. Why the hell would you focus on the romance in that situation? I wanted to see more of the front lines. I get that they had to set up Kirito's interactions with the guilds, but holy hell all of those episodes about NOTHING. "Oh he saved that girl" "no he also saved this one!" "Ahh it's a mystery episode, spooky!". And even worse was the episodes about him being a whiny faggot "oh I'm all alone, I can't join a guild, boohoo". Shut the fuck up. And then all that shit with Asuna.
I don't care, I want to see more of the RPG elements and more of the "oh shit this is real we have to survive this" elements, stuff that the first few episodes had.
As has been said multiple times before, it's because volume 1 of the LN is actually a romance in a MMO setting, not a MMO story with a romance subplot. The material on SAO-era Aincrad adapts exceptionally poorly into anime, which we sorta predicted before the anime even started airing. It's basically a cobbled-together mishmash of short stories and romance. SAO presented in chronological order and in LN release order feel very different.
Progressive anime pls.
I don't understand why they threw their premise out the window early on. If you don't want the high stakes of permanent, real death in a game that you aren't allowed to leave, why even bother introducing that aspect?
The romance was the good part of the show. I have no interest in watching generic shounen battles or generic shounen politics.
>Why the hell would you focus on the romance in that situation?
Well, SAO was originally written as a Romance anyways, just as >>101769052 said.
>a romance in a MMO setting, not a MMO story with a romance subplot
This part especially.
The later stories and everything focus more on the MMO story, and such, which is why this translated poorly into an anime.
Anime based on SAO's Progressive series would have been awesome tho. (If the Progressive books were far enough to adapt into an anime, that is.)
Is this also why the romance in the anime sucked too?
I'm not being facetious at all, as someone who has not read the LNs, is Kirito still a shitty character, and is the story still horribly written?
I take it this is like the Japanese-MMO equivalent to Twilight.
>the Black Swordsman
racism you are banned
The Anime sucked, in my opinion, because it was difficult to adapt the books, due to how scattered the time-line was.
Aditionally, they butchered a few (important) things in the anime, likely due to time-constraints.
I'm not too interested in the romance itself (or, I'm not as invested in it to care about it), but really, only the first four books focused anything on Romance. The second book less so, as it only had the Yui side-story, and the rest was just filling in some time-line events.
And books 3 and 4 (Fairy Dance) didn't really focus on the Romance itself, either.
After the first four books (everything the Anime covered, plus 2-3 side stories elsewhere), the series practically drops the Romance genre, keeping it in the background mostly.
/lgbt/ pls go
You know, everyone says that he is whiny and overpowered, but he is about the same as other shounen protagonists. As for the whiny part, he is in a death game where he has seen many of his friends die, so I think a little emotion is to be expected. The only death that really felt forced was in the first boss fight. The death of Kirito's guild was alright considering that a party could easily get slaughtered if they wander too deep into an unfamiliar dungeon.
In general, the earlier the novel, the worse written it is. The romance is saccharine as fuck, and the characters have the depth of a tablespoon, and I say this as someone who likes them and cheers for their relationship. You should pick up volume 1 and read the interminably nauseous gushing that Kirito's inner monologue gives regarding Asuna. It's wish-fulfillment out the wazoo. I got second-hand embarrassment reading it. That said, for all its sappiness, it can really hit the spot if you're looking for a tsun-less, harem-less dokidoki vanilla romance with a girl who isn't absolutely worthless and a guy who isn't absolutely worthless.
At least Aincrad benefited from having the most appealing setting. And that is why the subsequent short stories that focus on this romance in the SAO-era are much better. Kawahara has improved as a writer, and that's clearly apparent.
The romance IS the story. There is no other overarching plot to that game/arc.
>b-but clearing the game!
No. All presented in bits and pieces. Progressive is your best bet.
That's a really weird place to poop from.
THE RULES OF NATURE
Huh, I actually had no idea. And usually I'm a source-materialfag.
>The modern edgy self-insert
How does the later SAO Novel's story compare to Accel World?
>In general, the earlier the novel, the worse written it is
This mostly applies to material that was written in the Web Novel days, I would say.
I'm told that the majority of Phantom Bullet is new to the Light Novels, and wasn't in the Web Novels (though, I can't really read the web novel to confirm this, sooo...)
But yes, this Rule is generally true.
Curious if his next series, "Absolute Solitude" will kick off like SAO and AW.
Similarly, if you read the LNs in release order,
>implying Kirito is edgy
First impressions matter. The guy's actually really easygoing, but if Beater drama and Linkin Park are what people are exposed to first, that's what they'll remember.
>implying Asuna is a tsundere
>implying SAO is a harem
It's as if Kawahara realized all the obligatory shitty LN tropes he forgot to include and shoved it all in. Well, I guess it retroactively is a harem, but a half-hearted one.
I'm not gonna lie. I haven't really delved into the AW LNs. If the anime is any indication, the story in AW feels a lot tighter than early SAO - a characteristic it seems to share with later SAO. Until the Koreans and US Navy show up,
Which is why I'm hopeful that Alicization will suffer/enjoy massive changes henceforth.
What's it about, anyways? Don't say MMOs. Does this guy think he can be the next kamachi.exe?
Accelerator is more edgy
Don't forget about the American mercenary that LIBERATES people's souls, and is basically immune to all damage because of how he represents FREEDOM.
This is not an anime that I would recommend to anyone. I would not even recommend it to my worst enemy. That is cruelty of which I am not capable. It was atrocious, infuriating, corny, cliché, contrived, horrid, purple tentacled, pseudo-incestuous, borderline-misogynistic, plebeian, an affront to mankind, unintelligent, crafted by the devil, a war on art, used to torture terrorists, bourgeois, anti-intellectual, inbred, languid, shallow, self-insertionly, corny, the antithesis of Dostoevsky, the apotheosis of awful fiction, blank, infantile, pathetic, vacuous, vapid, salacious, inane, imbecilic, an abortion, Stygian, sub-par, bland, poorly thought out, corny, loathsome, vomit-inducing, virulent, bile, poorly executed, infernal, eviscerating, flippant, an insult to its audience, cadaverific, philistine, lame, sad in all the wrong ways, funny in all the wrong ways, painful, paint-drying, boner-killing, wretched, impotent, generic, unemotional, repetitive, redundant, boring, and corny. I really really wish I hadn’t watched it. If you’re one of the people who told me it was a “must watch” then fuck you. Not even funny.
Yeah, but no one self-inserts as Accelerator and he gets the shit beat out of him.
You cant selfinsert into Accel
can we instead talk about the phantom bullet adaptation?
I'm not normally into traps, but the fact I already like this series, and how Kirito looks pretty hot, I find myself confused.
What the fuck did I just read? Did the whole series just went full retard?
That's from the Web Novel version of the story. We're not quite sure if Kawahara plans to go the same route, in the Light Novel, as everything we said doesn't start for a volume or two.
Lets talk about how GGO's demographic seems to represent edgy gamers better?
It will be shit.
Mother's Rosario will also be about Kirito instead of Assuna somehow. They'll manage it, trust me.
The both of them. Especially Kirito.
>Director Itou: Sinon has a painful past, but it will not be too gruesome in the anime
There goes our bank-robbery scene.
Ahaha oh wow.
Dropped before it even airs.
I was actually looking forward to it because I have read the novels up to Alicization, but yeah.
I didn't actually expect anything from it but that's still a let down.
I fucking hate this director so much.
That early fucking episode when the guy let's himself fucking die like a tard and Kirito goes full 'beater' mode. That entire fucking scene just pissed me off.
Hopefully the director is a Sinonfag and the end of BoB is following the web novel version where Sinon won against Kirito in a duel.
That was a great win. The LN version is anti-climatic as fuck.
That scene there?
Didn't happen like that in the LN
>At the same time, in the front lines, the two handed axe user Agil and several other players tried to move in to support the others.
>But, it was too late.
>The demi human roared, and the katana—no, the nodachi in both its hands was moved away from its trajectory close to the floor and raised up high. Sword skill >«Ukifune». It was aimed for the Knight Diabel, who had fallen right in front of it. As if pulled by a pale red arc of light, the knight in silver armor was sent flying high up into the air. The damage wasn't much. However, the Kobold Lord's movements didn't stop there.
Its large wolf-like mouth grinned ferociously.
>The nodachi was once again wrapped in a red light effect. «Ukifune» was the start of a skill combo. If you were hit by it while in the air, it was useless to struggle, so you could only defend by curling up. However, it was impossible for a person who was dealing with this situation for the first time.
>While in the sky, Diabel brandished his sword, trying to pull off a sword skill to counterattack. However, because he was unstable, the system could not determine the starting motion for the skill. The huge nodachi directly hit the front of the knight as he waved his sword uselessly.
>At a speed which could not be seen by the eye, the combination attack continued with a further strike followed by a thrust. A three hit strike, this skill's name was «Hiōgi».
>The bright colors and crashing sounds of the three consecutive damage effects that engulfed the knight’s body showed that all the attacks were critical hits. His avatar was blasted away 20 meters, over the heads of the raid members, and fell as if piercing into the ground near me, as I faced the last of the Sentinels. He fell almost as if piercing the ground. His HP gauge, which was already crimson, began to reduce further from the right end.
>I gasped out a strange sound from the back of my throat, and I attacked the Sentinel’s halberd that was approaching in front of me with a «Slant» that contained all my strength. The halberd's handle was cut apart in the middle, and as it stood stunned for a short duration Asuna's rapier pierced through its throat.
>With ascertaining for the monster's shattering effect with my own eyes, I turned towards the body of the fallen Diabel. Seeing the knight’s eyes from the short distance of one meter for the first time, I felt sparks race through my mind.
>—I recognize this player.
>His name and appearance were completely different from what I remembered, but we had definitely previously met face to face in the other Aincrad, and maybe I had even talked to him. As expected, Diabel was an original beta tester like me. And like me, he had fought while hiding his past until today. No, since he had made close friends while hiding his past, the pressure on him was probably several times more than mine.
>However, precisely because he had an original tester's knowledge, he was harmed by it when it came to final stage of breaking through the first floor.
Although I do not remember him, he had had probably been convinced that I, Kirito, was the player with the same name, although with a different face, who was good at placing the LA on the boss during the beta testing period. And, he believed that I would probably try to do the same thing here. A Floor Boss’s rare drop items were unique and high power items, and by getting it one’s fighting power could sharply rise. In the current deathtrap that SAO has become, combat ability is synonymous with survivability. Diabel, in order to survive in this world—not as an isolated solo player, but as a Knight at the head of a group—had tried to get the rare drop from Illfang by any means.
>It seemed like Diabel has also guessed that I had realized all that in that moment. His eyes, as blue as his hair, twitched for an instant, but immediately after emitted a kind of pure light. From his trembling lips, he spoke in a voice soft enough for only me to hear.
>"…I leave the rest to you, Kirito-san. The boss, defea—"
>Before his sentence ended—
>The commander of the Aincrad Boss Raid Forces, the Knight Diabel, turned into blue shards of glass, and then scattered in all directions.
(Forgot to green text 2 lines. Crap.)
Only if you have shit taste.
He's still more competent than IS director, at least.
Why the fuck would you hope?
Was anyone expecting some huge twist at the end of the show? Like that no one was actually dieing in real life. There still was a twist, but it wasn't what I thought they would go for.
There's a case of directors showing favoritism.
IS director favors Char, Hataruku director favors Chiho, and it shows in their adaptations.
>Hopefully the director is a Sinonfag
No, he's a Leafafag. Why do you think he cut out Asuna's bath scene, but included two for Leafa?
>all those Asuna scenes cut out
- bath scene
- that entire first chunk of Aria
- her dressing up all nice for him in Murder Case
- pic related
- him running his finger down her back to make her jump
I'm sure I'm missing more. I hope Sinonbros will have their favorite scenes preserved.
I mention the bath scene, because that sticks out in my mind most, considering Suguha got hers.
But yes, those too.
>tfw you're a lonely "beater"
Hopefully the Manga covers the robbery scene though.
>long black-haired beauty
No right being that cute.
The artist did a good job with Kirito, I'd say.
Much MUCH better than pic related.
this shit is unvelievable, i mean come on, with all the popularity this show got, couldn't they hire a better manga artist?
i could randomly pic any pivix user, hell even any deviantart user, ask them to draw the same page and do a better work.
All the other Manga artists have done LEAGUES BETTER than the Aincrad manga artist.
So far I'm enjoying Girls Ops' manga most (Progressive being close behind)
Fairy Dance isn't perfect, but it's not terrible.
You want to have a thread about utter shit? The LN are really badly written and the anime was somehow worse
The manga adaptation came out 2 years before the anime. The popularity hasn't exploded back then.
That makes some sense actually.
Though, the Manga still hasn't even caught up to the Anime (the coming chapter in the next issue of Dengeki Bunko should be the last chapter of the Fairy Dance manga)
Can't have gradeschool kids shooting and killing people on television.
Fuck your child-safe anime!
(At least keep it in the BD?)
>Implying I'll actually buy the BD
>Implying I have money to buy foreign shit.
>For what it is, it's very good
You mean, for a crappy anime, it's good?
Is AIDS safe-for-children's-cartoons?
What will Yuuki die of instead?
They might just gloss over "What is she sick with?" completely...
>"She was always a sickly child."
>"I killed someone when I was younger"
>No further explanation
>"Because of me, someone died."
Why would you censor something like this?
Sure, you have Asuna's molestation, but not Sinon killing a guy?
Wow, the Directory must REALLY hate Asuna.
Some anons mentioned something..."Progressive"? Could someone tell me what it is? Google is only giving me some manga, or is it the re-written verions of Aincrad arc that was apperantly first included with the BD's or something? And how is it better than the original?
Mindwashed double-rape is okay.
Killing in self-defense in not okay.
Gotta teach the kids them moral values, yo.
Progressive is a novel line-up, that the author is writing, with 1 book per year.
Basically, each book is covering the events that took place, to clear 1 or 2 floors. (Volume 1 was Floors 1 and 2, Volume 2 was Floor 3)
There's also a Manga adaption of this, but it hasn't caught up, as it's a monthly release.
I see, from the manga I see it focuses more on Asuna, right? Oh well it's kinda suprising that the author decided to rework that first arc, kinda seems as if he really sees what's wrong with the earlier volumes and now tries to fix that
Ah, only the Manga focuses more on Asuna (there's also a bit of OOC here and there,) but it generally follows the progression of the novel.
We're not quite sure how the Progressive Novels will play out. We know there are floors where Kirito's involvement with clearing the frontlines slackened, so I'm interested to see how that turns out (if Progressive EVER gets translated)
And yeah, the author's writing development can kind of be seen, as you read through SAO, seeing as he started SAO with 0 experience, and now has 3 novel line-up (a 4th has also been announced)
Saitama's going to get horribly beaten.
Only a Gary stu can beat a Gary stu.
