>[HorribleSubs] Hajime no Ippo - Rising - 18 [720p]
Miyata the OPBF title defender
>>
Is it worth watching the first 43 eps for? I want to get into ippo but there's just so many eps.

I thought of it like that before i first watched it then i watched the first episode of rising which got me hooked on the show.
watch a few episodes and see if you can get into it. I marathoned the fuck out of it when I watched it and enjoyed it.

There's about 100 episodes before Rising excluding the OVAs. I had the same impression "how the fuck does a show about boxing last so long?" but it's really well paced and I'm kicking myself for not watching it until recently.

its so good

The first ones are the only ones worth watching.

Ippo the fucking magical superman that can take two counters to the face even after getting hit back with all his momentum and not fall on his ass.

I know, suspension of belief and all that but Sawamura had that match completely. Getting real tired of this "YAMATO DAMASHII" shit and if Ippo beats that Mexican he's fighting in the manga because of it I will drop this shit once and for all.
>>
>>101760868
The reason Ippo doesn't fall over completely a la Vorg spar is because he was trying to get the timing down on his stop-and-go Dempsy. The anime mentions this so no, he wasn't going at full momentum. Also dude's a fisherman and trained his balance before the Shimabukuro match, he's got some superhuman balance, mang.

Although I agree with you completely that Sawamura had that match. If only he didn't intentionally slow down on his bullet jabs and let Ippo learn his timing becuse >muh meat. He just had to stick to his guns.

>Sawamura

Poor, poor guy he just HAD to try take a piece of the GRIM REAPER sister.

Poor guy...
>>
>>101765585
Would've been real sweet to see a street brawl with Mashiba and Sawamura.

Quick update on the post-WWII arc: Looks like Ichirou Nagai (Nekota's VA) will be only voicing the upcoming episode. They're going to need to find a replacement for the Post-WWII arc.

RIP dani.

>Is it worth watching the first 43 eps for? I want to get into ippo but there's just so many eps.

That's your problem. You're supposed to be reading Hajime no Ippo. The anime is what you treat yourself to after catching up.

Well, they already have someone for Young Nekota. It's likely they'll get someone just for Older Nekota, since it sounds like the flashback will be starting at the arena, before/after Takamura's title match, instead of at Nekota's Pension, like in the manga.

Did you even watch/read that episode? Ippo is a better boxer than Ryuuhei. Ryuuhei cheated and has counters, that's it.

Also he couldnt actually stop a full power dempsy roll until basically his life was on the line. He was trying to every time he did it.

I met this guy my freshmen year of college who liked anime a little who kept raving about the show. I felt the same way about the length at first but it's definitely worth it.

Marathoning on friday nights and eating pizza while watching a testosterone boxing anime is something I'll never forget.

dude I got into boxing because of Ippo

This.

The amount of stuff the Ippo anime cuts compared to the manga has practically made them two different shows. Though it wasn't nearly as bad during the first series. New Challenger and Rising have really shit the bed in regard to making you give a shit about the characters.

Thank god the original director is coming back to the do Post-War Arc.

This fight was one of the highlights for the season, in a season with a lot of good episodes already. It didn't have the hype of the Sawamura fight, but they threw you in and it was still great.
Plus, seeing Miyata work is always nice.

I dropped Rising after I saw what the did to Aoki's Championship fight, but I hear they fucked all over Ryuuhei vs. Ippo too, from a character standpoint. No Sawamura vs Sendo flashback, no Sawamura spitting on his old teacher or that amazing part, at the end of the arc, where Sendo tasks Ryuuhei to task for treating his teacher like shit, despite said teacher came out of the same mental facility as Sawamura.

I was thinking that they were cutting out a lot.. the first season had a lot of goofy side humor, and New Challenger and Rising are basically just fight after fight... :( I want it all to be animated

and wtf is with the captcha, are they really trying to get people to buy 4chan passes that bad? 80% of these fuckers are impossible

how cute

well, they even dropped the 'detached retina' subplot from takamura vs. eagle, even though it was a major plot point to show how much ippo respects and worries about takamura, like an older brother. the pay-off comes to show how deep both takamura's and ippo's bond is with kamogawa, since despite taka being well beyond kamogawa's teaching at this point in his career, in the end, when he had nothing left, it was the fact that he instinctively threw punches where kamogawa held his mitts would be the key to him winning.

that said, this episode was adapted perfectly, if only because of the massive backlash they got for how shitty miyata's opbf title match was in new challenger.

>>101775647
Its really disappointing that they added the bit about the mosquito and miyata punching takamura, and then left it at that.

>I want it all to be animated

New Challenger wasn't nearly as bad as Rising when it came to cutting stuff, but it was mostly them sacrificing two major fights Eiji Date vs. Ricardo Martinez and Miyata vs Arine so the Battle of the Hawk could be animated well, though they still ended up cutting corners there.

Throughout Rising the either completely dumbed down ionic scenes from the manga or completely shit all over the characters personalities.

I don't even blame it on the lack of episodes, so much as the current director doesn't know how to pace things properly and don't understand that, at its core, Hajime no Ippo's greatest strength as a serial was is characters, then the matches.

That's why despite Aokimura having such shit matches the characters are so endearing and earnest in their efforts to keep up with monsters like Ippo and Takamura you still find yourself rooting for them, even when you know they'll fail. It doesn't help that Aokimura are fucking amazing characters who are hilarious as fuck in the slice of life portions of the series.

>well, they even dropped the 'detached retina' subplot from takamura vs. eagle, even though it was a major plot point to show how much ippo respects and worries about takamura, like an older brother.

Yep. This is true. Takamura himself admits this (to Itagaki) that Ippo is like a little brother to him much later in the series. That's a pretty big statement coming from a guy who's almost always being an insensitive asshole, like Takamura. He even worries about Aoki and Kimura, though he never admits it.

I remember this. This was when Takamura told Itagaki to look after Ippo and remind him to think of the faces of his past opponents, except Itagaki chose not to not remind Ippo of Takamura's advice simply because he want to see what happened.

Which resulted in Ippo eating a 2-Ton counter to the face.

Fuck yeah, we get to see Channa again!
>>
>>101780470
what the fuck is wrong with her eyes?
>>
>>101781909
She was sick, whatever illness she had probably fucked with her eyes.
Come to think of it Dachboy's eyes didn't look very healthy either.

Fantastic use of music in this episode.
>>
>>101782738
Yeah, the music direction this episode felt great this time. Considering Rising's budget the OST is really good, even the new tracks. I just wished they'd stop playing Tumbling Dice every fight, it's too good of a track and I worry it'll lose it's magic.
