>that pyramid scheme arc
I accidentally almost got into one once.
I know my friend was into one until I told him it was a pyramid scheme.
They exist, just very tight covered
Pyramid scheme sounds so fake. No one actually falls for there are no succesful scams.
suicide island got to me hard
not because of what happened, but because sato basically got abandoned while everyone else got some hope in their lives. also the part where he was screaming at the cliff.
Why not? I thought it tied in nicely to the online game thing.
That other NEET guy crying made me really fucking feel bad.
This. I actually teared up a couple times in the island arc.
The pyramid scheme arc honestly felt more "anime" and silly to me than the other arcs and didn't hit nearly as hard.
The whole show is about people who are the dregs of society, and it's hard to imagine people who are much more sad and pathetic than those caught up in ponzi schemes.
The kinds of people who get caught up in pyramid schemes are naive or stupid or both. Satou is neither of those things.
Just because he's a NEET does not make him a sap.
That's because the pyramid scheme arc was added as filler for the anime. It wasn't in the manga or the book.
And the dumbest part about it is that one episode after getting tricked into buying those dumb "brainpower" pills Misaki suddenly knows a whole bunch of diet shit about the health benefits of eating Tuna.
So then if the people who get caught up are naive, stupid or both and Satou isn't either then why did he get caught up in it?
>That's because the pyramid scheme arc was added as filler for the anime. It wasn't in the manga or the book.
Neither was the island arc, but that one still managed to hit pretty hard and be believable despite still being filler.
Herbalife isn't a pyramid scheme, don't listen to Ackman's lies.
>Misaki's father died when she was a toddler
>Misaki's mother marries a total asshole for no given reason and brings her into an abusive household
>doesn't try to keep Misaki away from abusive stepfather or divorce him
>no indication that he ever changed or anything during their marriage; he was an asshole from the get-go yet Misaki's mom still marries him anyway because why the fuck not
>she later commits suicide instead of trying to better the situation she personally got herself and Misaki in
I don't know if this is just bad writing or if her mom's a fucking retard who can be blamed for everything wrong with Misaki's life.
The anime could have done without the pyramid scheme and MMORPG arc.
In the anime at least, he is shown to be very impressionable, though.
> It wasn't in the manga or the book.
I haven't read all the manga, but something like 90% of the anime is different then the book. It's its own work.
They changed a lot of it in the anime, but I remember that from the manga (haven't read the book though)
I'd say its pretty believable tbh, its a show about flawed people who do retarded stuff.
It's to show that the only way to make a living is to work a regular job like everyone elese
Because he's an idiot and a failure.
How he can correctly identify that the girl is going to take advantage of him, force her to admit it, then fall for it anyway boggles the mind.
It's a conspiracy.
It's most likely the latter. It fits with the themes. Although, just to be clear, it's heavily implied, but it's never confirmed that Misaka's mom actually committed suicide.
In the anime Misaki's mothers death wasn't confirmed as a suicide; it's implied but it's noted that nobody was sure whether it was an accident or suicide.
It wasn't in the light novel so it def through me off.
What the fuck?
Go back to facebook
meant to say definitely threw
>tfw there will never be an anime with more accurate depiction of Otaku and Hikkikomori lifestyle than Welcome to the NHK
I don't have a facebook, thank you.
How much are you in for?
Genshiken is pretty close. Well, to the otaku part.
It's really nice to be a sheltered kid
He is naive. He gets easily excited about new stuff all the time. anime/eroge, the scheme, mmo
The worse part about the Pyramid Scheme arc, in my opinion, is when the other Hikikomori gets a job and all the conflict is seemingly easily resolved.
because the story is somewhat autobiograpical if i remember
the author probably fell for all the same shit the MC did
It wasn't in the book.
But it wasn't in the novel. I think it's just filler.
Pyramid scheme, mmo, and island arcs weren't in the novel anon.
I kinda wish the scene with Satou and Yamazaki spying on Misaki at church was adapted into the anime though.
Face it, guys, the novel deals with the topics better.
>Pyramid scheme, mmo, and island arcs weren't in the novel anon.
A lot of the other stuff wasn't in the novel, too.
>I kinda wish the scene with Satou and Yamazaki spying on Misaki at church was adapted into the anime though.
Yeah, the anime does a lot for developing the characters, so it's weird that they left this part out.
Has there been any news on the author of NHK doing anything? I heard a few years ago that he went back to being a hikki, it would be real sad if he's still living like that now.
Check his wikipedia entry.. He's gotten back to writing novels. Well, that doesn't really say anything about whether he's a hikikomori or not, though.
It might not be the best arc in the show, but I think it's important. It shows that Misaki is just as naive and impressionable as Satou. It works with the theme that there aren't any get rich quick or magical ways to save you from you neet lifestyle. And I think showing how the Megumi Kobayashi's brother was destroying her life was important to showing how damaging neet lifestyle is to a family.
because they understand each other
that's how healthy relationships work. You learn to love someone, warts and all.
the more desperate you are, the less fake things sound
Oh, sorry, I meant in the pyramid scheme.
I actually liked Misaki.
me and my CPA accountant father who should know better almost got into MLM too.
>i'm such an okatu that i made a club having to do with anime culture xddd
Why is she such a best girl?
I preferred normally suicidal NovelMisaki.
I liked cute, outwardly happy Misaki, but then again that was the first version I experienced.
Have you not read the novel?
Werent they mega rare and cost hundreds of dollars? Well there was a time they were pricey as hell, gotta recheck
Doesn't look that expensive
It's $30 from right stuf off Amazon. It has been for like over a year I think.
Because hikikomori get desperate to be s part of something. So they let themselves fall for shit. Its a good arc, done...badly.
Oh there's also a PDF.
But that arc was my favorite. Even the whole NEET brother thing
The NEET brother was the only good thing about that arc.
