What do you genuinely believe is the best anime ever made?
Pic related for me.
The fact that so many anime fans still name Evangelion "the greatest or most significant or most influential" anime ever only tells you how far anime still is from becoming a serious art.
Sort-of agree, but only for No Longer Human. OST when?
Doesn't really matter since none of us want anime to be taken seriously.
All of Aoi bungaku or just No Longer Human?
dont make anime the new COD.
Anon no one even used the word art yet.
Ghost in the shell.
"Greatest" is obviously just opinions, but
>most significant or most influential
is pretty much fact.
It's pretty obvious that the entire anime was made more or less for adapting that story, but I also loved the rest of it, especially The Spider's Thread.
Sora no Woto
EVA,Utena or LOGH.
I think Run Melos! was the best one.
I never thought I'd find you, my nigga
OP, I can't even decide what my top five shows are.
Hell if I know how to answer your question.
Gotta be Boku no Pico for me, OP.
Also, poll: http://strawpoll.me/1107943
Never. Goddamn, I want that piano piece from Kokoro so bad.
I don't know the best one. I know my favourite, though
The soundtrack used in the series was also used in some other series. I've forgotten what though sorry.
This guy knows what's up. Number indicates story order:
Pretty sure it was Melos that was 3
I've bought some of the novels after watching the series, now to learn japanese.
also NGE for me, runner-up SSY
Probably this, but who knows? It's not like I've watched even 5 percent of the anime out there.
Just remember that when you name an adaptation as the best anime ever made, you are indirectly diminishing the value of the medium as a separate and independent form of art.
Not that i would argue it has any value at all, just wanted to point that out as a hint to the inherent shittiness of the chinese cartoons.
And yeah, that one is a damn good anime, bring back my cool madhouse.
Muv Luv will be if they ever adapt it
you sir have good taste.
I don't agree, some of the best-considered movies of all times are adaptations of books.
Isn't that Scaruffi's quote about The Beetles?
This. Boku no Pico is the best ever made
Yep, i'm one of those people
G E I S T
This right here.
That only means that books are the superior form, which is quite true. Surely you can babble on how the visual medium adds another dimension and how actors and directors enrich the story being adapted, and how it should be appreciated as a whole, each aspect adding something vital to the resulting piece, but in the end, those greatest movies wouldn't exist if the books weren't there. And if you call those movies the best cinematography has to offer, then you admit that she's just literature's bitch (which is also true, may i remind you).
This is so easy to answer.
Are Fine Arts also literature's bitch? And what about music?
I hope someday it will be topped but I don't see it happening.
It's hard for me to decied but my gut would go with either Fate/Zero or FMA brotherhoad or Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
I've just started watching eva just to see what all the hype is about.
A predictable, par for the course product that uses the same material each time, only tweaking it slightly? No, anime will never be like that.
Ashita no joe for me
If anime would get the same level of respect like movies, it would be a huge improvement from where is it right now.
How new are you? Some titles get the same level of respect as movies in Japan. Latest examples, Gintama and Madoka movies.
It sucks that sakura trick was proxy spammed because I'd like to know how it really ranked.
If by respect you mean being called a disgusting otaku, then yeah.
Don't talk about shit you know nothing about, newfriend. Go check the Japanese box office, you retarded mongoloid.
Best is rather hard, since some series are just good in different ways and can't really be compared.
That being said, Kino and Tatami among others are definitely up there for me.
Fuck off to whatever shithole you came from.
It would still be #1
> talking like a disgusting pleb
> expecting respect for the anime medium
LoGH without question.
Evangelion was hardly the most influential or significant anime. Something like Dragonball Z would be more appropriate since it actually made anime mainstream outside of Japan.
It was a VN first and the VN is better. They're both not that great.
OVA of them getting the fourth sword when.
>The soundtrack used in the series was also used in some other series
Mouryou no Hako.
the only anime to make full use of the strengths of its medium
>best art direction
>most developed characters
>best use of theme from start to finish
ZETTAI UNMEI MOKUSHIROKU
Utena is the sort of anime that could ONLY ever be an anime, if it was anything else, it'd be a fucking mess
Evangelion is basically the reason anime is what it is today. No one can deny that. It is a simple, basic fact that if Eva had never been produced, anime would not be an international industry, or one of any relative size of what it is right now.
>unironically liking Death Note that much
i only watch live action
Somehow I feel like you haven't even read FSN
I still really want to watch that, so jealous of you moonspeakers
No fucking way that exists.
I don't like it anywhere near as much as I think it is good, but in terms of best, Steins;Gate.
>somebody literally made an /a/ version of scruff daddy's famous quote
You just made me realize that most of the anime industry is like that already.
Oh sweet jesus, yes!
What's the original?
You should really read the original novel of No Longer Human. That is all.
I actually wanted to read the book in the first place but I wasn't able to find it absolutely anywhere on the Internet. So I got the next-best thing, this anime and the manga adaptation of No Longer Human.
Maybe I should sweep for the book again on Google, probably someone posted an ebook by now
Nigger, just buy the damn thing from bookdepository or something. I got this edition from my local Kinokuniya. I highly recommend you get this one, from New Directions Publishing.
I'm living on the fucking edge man, can barely afford to pay my Internet and electricity bills. Never paid for books/movies/games/anime in my life and I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to ship the book from some country thousand of miles away
I couldn't get past the first few eps because it was too depressing
Cowboy Bebop is the pinnacle of Japanese animation. Fuck off moeshitposters
That's ok because the material appeals to me.
I'm a big Evafag, but I think GITS:SAC is basically flawless.
Mushishi probably comes close, but I haven't watched every anime so I can't tell you which is the best.
Man of good taste.
My backlog is overflowing with things that are supposed to be the best, but at the moment I'd say Ghost in the Shell SAC is the best. Not my favorite though.
nothing even comes close
Learning Japanese for No Longer Human is a great idea anon. I only read it in english yet, and it still hits me right in the feels. Can't imagine what sort of devastation reading it in Japanese will be.
Anon, I had the same problem as you, but found it in the end.
If you can, buy the book. If you can't (like me, nonamerifat poorfag), I could upload it for you if you want.
It's one book. I hope you grow to like more Japanese literature and prepare to sink your roots deeper, or at least use anime and manga as a motivation for those times when you just don't want to do any more kanji reps.
I'm definitely learning Japanese for the literature. The anime and mango part are a positive boon, but the literature is incredibly enthralling. So far, Mishima is my favorite, but recently I read Botchan by Soseki and loved it.
You should also read his most acclaimed work, Kokoro. Maybe some I Am A Cat, for comic Soseki. I hear Kenzaburo Oe is pretty unique too.
There was a remake of Run Melos in Aoi Bungaku ?
I had no idea I just sort of forgot about this series after Kandata's story.
yeah, thanks, it's in my to-read list.
Japanese literature is great, but sometimes it feels somewhat "heavy". I read House of the Sleeping Beauties by Kawabata and despite it not being about something depressing, I still felt completely saturated for a few days and couldn't focus on starting anything else. Right now I want to read the Woman in the Dunes.
FLY AWAY NOW
Holy shit what a clueless faggot.
I don't believe it's the best anime ever made but in my book, Aoi Bungaku is a 10/10. Loved every story, not just No Longer Human.
This guy knows his shit.
No. The last half sucked major dick.
Inferno Cop is the greatest work of art ever made.
melos was great though
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
My contenders are:
2. Haibane renmei
4. Hokuto no ken
In an arbitrary order.
Though personally I think it's a tie between aria and haibane.
Onani master Kurosawa is a close second.
This patrician taste.
Yes, but this time it was used right.
For me it's either Kino no Tabi, Evangelion or Utena.
I also really liked SnK, but I'd wait for it to end to make up my mind.
Texhnolyze for me. Everything about it is just perfect.
I like you.
That anime sucks dick, ruins a bunch of great stories with its shitty story telling and jamming shit that never happened in the original story into their abortion.
I got the old stories that Ayakashi: samurai horror tales are based on.
I think I got a 2nd novel from aoi bungaku, don't quite remember though.
Anime has been a good introduction to Japanese literature
Negima if the Rakan fight and the last fate fight ever got animated.
Too bad it'll never happen since the elevens prefer harem antics.
anything that can make me really feel something is a fucking great show.
based on that my vote would be:
1. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
can't really think of anything else comparable to those 2 right now
el psy congroo
My nigga. Let's just hope that it will deliver in the end.
As for me, I would say Lain or Tatami Galaxy.
Thexnolyze/LOGH/Millenium actress/Jinrui ha suitai shimashita
Anime will never get the same respect as movies because anime is made to cater to pasty manchildren shut-ins, while there are movies made for virtually everyone.
Did you pick that image as bait?
Death Note might not be perfect, at least for me, but I can understand why someone would like it.
Also, insulting someone for liking something is terribly stupid.
I don't have anything against KlK, but most good series are usually entry level.
Not him, but the death note anime was pretty shit compared to the manga. I don't see how you could possibly consider it "the best anime ever made".
It might have been worse than the manga, but it was still above average as an anime.
And since taste is subjective, I don't see any reason for not picking it as a favorite.
Dude, OP wasn't talking about Death Note.
What the fuck is going on in here
What makes an anime actually good. What makes it something that deserves attention and praise outside the tiny otaku fanbase is that it does something with medium that can't be done with other storytelling methods. That it does something unique, and does it well. How many anime even remotely qualify, given that criteria though? Tatami Galaxy. Maybe Mawaru Penguindrum or Utena? It seems crazy when you think of how many shows have been created that so few are even trying to do anything interesting. Otaku are cultural vampires who have drained the life almost utterly from anime, unfortunatly. Anything really good slips through by accident.
We're not talking "above average" tier series here. The average anime is trash. Death note might be above average but is nowhere near "best anime ever".
Yeah, I see that now. I was just responding to >>101755008 who was responding to >>101753365 who talked about death note.
What does the OP have to do with what we're discussing here? I replied to >>101753365
You speak like there's desperate amount of ''good stuff''. That's bullshit, I say. There's still lots of good stuff being made, to round it off to three shows is absurd. Even this show we have Space Dandy which is brilliant.
>Phrase not found
GitS: SAC: 2nd GiG is a close second.
Is there any doubt?
You were being rused. Nobody actually mentionned Death Note appart from that one post you quoted.
But your argument with that other dude is more about semantics than Death Note itself so knock yourself out and keep fighting, I say.
This isn't the best slideshow ever made thread
>Even this show
Should be ''season'' instead of ''show''
>Nobody actually mentionned Death Note appart from that one post you quoted
Yeah, and I replied to the person I quoted, not OP.
Are you retarded?
no fucking contest
That's not slideshow, that's a unique way of telling the story using lots of still pictures.
When Shaft animates though, they're just as good if not better than KyoAnus.
Let me explain it to your dumb ass:
The guy you quoted was saying "lel death note is shit" basically, even tough he was trollign because its not Death Note but you didn't catch that.
You then went and answered some shit about "he can have opinions mang its fine also death note wasnt that bad".
And now, we tell you that nobody was talking about Death Note in the first place, and that there was no argument to have here.
Do you understand?
>1. Sakura Trick
>2. Space Dandy
How come this season is so terrible?
I can't wait for the next one, it looks a lot more promising.
Yeah, too bad they never animate.
Better watch your fucking mouth
Just keep telling yourself that.
Go suck an ass
>but you didn't catch that
So you ARE retarded.
I just replied to that faggot talking about Death Note.
You're just saying I should either correct him, which would make me look like an asshole, or ignore him.
I just decided to talk about Death Note, since he mentioned it. What's so weird here?
>Evangelion is basically the reason anime is what it is today
you can't be serious
Nobody I've known IRL even knew of evanjellyun, but they did know DBZ and Pokemon.
It's winter. Winter is always shit
Bought the first issue of the manga today after looking for it everywhere.
Is this a troll thread? The shit taste ITT is off the charts
>not giving his, so we can laugh at him
oh and don't forget astro boy, speed racer, tetsujin/gigantor, and a million other things
the animu industry in the US would have been no different if eva were never made
Why not just laugh it off? His comment was made for comedic purposes in the first place.
Thanks for reminding me to finish No Longer Human, I love it and reads like Holden Caulfield meet Onodera Punpun. Then I'm going to watch it
>I just decided to talk about Death Note, since he mentioned it. What's so weird here?
The fact that he was obviously trying to make a joke? And that nobody wanted to talk about Death Note?
Why the fuck would you defend OP's right to like Death Note, if you know that OP was not talking about Death Note, and that the guy who seemingly made fun of him was actually making a joke?
Tell me what anime you like, big boy. I'll fucking tell you why it's shit
I still haven't found anything that can beat Evangelion.
If that counts then I am saying Jin Roh.
>I still haven't found anything that can beat Evangelion.
Eva is just devilman+ideon+mobile suit gundam resythesised on a low budget. Your powerlevel must not be that high if you've never found something better than eva.
>eva as the sum of its parts not as better than all of them together
Yes. I have watched many anime better than eva, if that's what you're asking.
Legend of Galactic Heroes
Kaiji season 1 and 2
Hajime No Ippo, although the manga definitely is superior
I'm getting a lot of shit for that opinion of mine, but pic related season 1.
That pleb tier man
best taste in this thread.
Seconding this. I cried bitch tears. Kokoro is a distant second.
Melos is 4, Kokoro is 3
Pretty much this. Joe is the best anime character there is.
I would like you to name them.
Name at least 7 if you're not very fond of Eva.
Just to add, I think the tears started near the middle then I just lost it until the end. First time tears actually fell and not just stayed in my eyes cuz of anime.
I also read Kokoro to see if some of that shit was actually in the book
>something is popular so that means it's good and significant in the history of a medium of media
shit son know your legacy vs temporary
ok, I'll even limit it to just mecha anime
>armor hunter mellowlink
>Tetsujin #28 2004
>space runaway ideon
easy peasy, lemonsqueasy
Now do slice of life.
>if Eva had never been produced, anime would not be an international industry, or one of any relative size of what it is right now
Moving the goalposts? The truth is that anime would be just as popular in the west if it weren't for eva.
I've only watched a couple SoL shows, so this is not something I'm qualified to be discussing.
I would argue that is completely wrong. Evangelion does attract a large cult following however it's not the anime Christ.
It presents some quite deep and edgy themes as the series progresses which are the shows undoing and would be quite easily seen on another mid 90s anime if Eva simply had never happened, It wasn't even largely internationally successful and it's just a massive clusterfuck.
I would suggest people tend to like Evangelion because people enjoy saying they understand deep shit but Evangelion doesn't even put it across in a way that's cohesive. The fact that they keep having to make more pictures to fix the ending just keeps adding fuel(and money) to this issue.
Evangelion would have been a lot better if it hadn't descended into utter lunacy by the end as essentially you spend hours digging into things only to find that there is no deeper meaning in Eva, compared to say Lain where there is a cohesive structure. I wouldn't say that Lain is the best anime however as it's more comparable to some avant garde artwork designed for installation in the Tate Modern than consumable media.
My vote for best Anime would go to Utena
My personal favourite is CardCaptor Sakura
Kaiji's pretty good also.
You've obviously never been in an Aoi Bungaku thread cause 'death note is shit' is brought up in every thread for it.
Lurk more etc
Not him, but
>Sora no Woto
>Non Non Biyori
>Kino no Tabi
Those are pretty comfy.
>I would suggest people tend to like Evangelion because people enjoy saying they understand deep shit
Really? My favourite bit was Shinji and Asuka being forced to wear matching leotards and play Dance Dance Revolution.
and that's why most anime is referred to as childish cartoons or for neckbeards because of the fan service and overly weeb shit most people who never even seen an anime just classify them equivalent to MLP while Eva and some others try for a serious approach, too bad pokemon DBZ naruto go for the "UGUUU SENPAI'S POWER LEVEL IS 9000 SO KAWAI!" because of your cancerous popular animes the medium will never stand on the shoulders of film and literature and music and will forever be this lesser form
Yotsuba anime never ;_;
>Rebuild is the "ending" to Eva
>what is EoE
>le opinionated trashman
Some things should never be adapted. For the greater good.
Gotta have some exceptions.
>too bad pokemon DBZ naruto go for the "UGUUU SENPAI'S POWER LEVEL IS 9000 SO KAWAI!" because of your cancerous popular animes
I never said they were good, did I? Why do you keep moving the goalposts you mongoloid fucktard?
Now you're saying eva is less popular than dbz and pokemon. That's exactly what I've been saying.
Eva wasn't that deep. It was pretty straightforward (save those shitty last two episodes) and if you start talking about underlying themes and shit then almost everything ever has those. Also, rebuild a shit.
What would you list as the prototypes for the different eras/aspects/genres/etc. of anime?
I'd say Eva was the driving influence behind making things more character-driven and set the tone for post-2000 anime in general.
lucy please go
People who praise it also happen to love titles like Mononoke or Tatami Galaxy which were horrid. Is it more of a comfy SoL or shit like titles mentioned above?
I don't think Mononoke and Tatami Galaxy are shit, but yeah, Mushishi is a comfy and slow paced SoL. Give it a try. I personally prefer Natsume Yuujinchou, but the majority on /a/ likes Mushishi more, I guess.
Hyouka had great animation and the character relationship dynamic was well done with very subtle cues. I liked it a lot.
It's like all of the shit taste in the world converged into one post.
Has to be a samefag, no one can be this stupid.
I can see how Madoka can be someone's favorite but you can't seriously say it's the best anime ever made.
Everyone is just biased here. Their favorite anime = best anime ever made.
Well, I'd go with Natsume Yuujinchou.
Both in pic related.
definitely pic related
I can't believe these girls aren't your waifus yet...
