Why are there no good dub actors except for Crispin Freeman?
The guy who voiced Koizumi was pretty good.
what about the one dude that voiced Alucard from the Hellsing sequel thingie
>no good dub actors
>Ian Sinclair (fuck you, his Dandy is great)
>J. Michael Tatum
Blame the directors rather than the actors for bad dubs. Most of them are alright in vidya or western animation.
Liem O'brien is very good imo
This. The VA's take absolutely no part in making dubs the absolute shit they are outside of shutting up and doing their jobs.
>Implying Todd Habberkorn isn't best girl
I'll pick up a show even if he's a minor character in it.
Laura Bailey is good, fuck you.
Posting in a dubs thread.
Richard Epcar made Batou enjoyable.
>can't even get dubs
Its all about chris patton!
Cromartie's English dub was fantastic.
I'm just warming up.
I really enjoyed FLCL's English dub and can recite all of its lines by heart
Not much variety in Texas.
Is that you, Crispin?
This OP. And the guy who voiced Balmung and Shizuo were pretty decent too.
But why even go as dub when one should sub to get anime make sense?
This guy teaches at a voice acting school here in Los Angeles. I saw commercials for it on UTB Hollywood.
Johnny Yong Bosch #1 Eng VA
>implying Liam O'Brien isnt good
he makes shitty games enjoyable
Nope. Average at best.
people always complain that dubs always reuse the same vas, but yoko hikasa and kana hanazawa are in fucking everything anyway. the stupid part is that whatever clowns are in charge of dub casting can't even be consistent about matching it. it makes you think they didn't even bother to watch the original material.
Adding my voice-crush in as well.
Yes. Yes, I do enjoy his work in Dandy. Suwabe is a master as always but you can't deny that the guy's bretty gud too.
J Michael Tatum
Johnny Yong Bosch
Lots of reasons:
>lack of new talent and diversity
>old talent becoming stale and spiralling into an uncanny valley of voices that sound uncomfortably unnatural
>people wanting the same voices over and over again (see: Vic Mangina)
>western voice actresses trying to imitate cute Japanese voices when it's a cultural impossibility, ruining the experience when they should be trying to be cute in a more natural, westernised way
>voice actors only care about the money, not about the role
>they only spend a few seconds thinking about how to portray the voice compared to Japanese voice actors - most times they haven't even bothered to know what the series is about
>by not bothering to understand a series it stunts their ability to act naturally when it counts
Oh, and Christopher Sabbat.
Isn't he the one with the awful voice that did the MC in Deadman Wonderland? How can you call that a good voice?
Kino's English voice is p great, whoever she is
Also hetalia dub is superior because dumb accents.
Who ever did Ginko's voice.
How bout that GuP dub guise
That's cheating, anon.
Not that anon you replied to but...
he has his moments. At times I feel he's just cast because he has the shota voice but there are times when a character really suits him.
That's Crispin Freeman, idiot.
Cluck like a chicken
The Clannad dub was good
I like Tatum as a voice actor, but he should never write a dub script again after what he did to Steins;Gate.
Cluck like a chicken, anon.
His work in Beck is great. Ayres has a really good singing voice.
That's Travis Willingham, the same voice actor for Knuckles.
But only a quarter of the postings are Toonami related, so you can't tell everyone to fuck off
brittney karbowski for me, He cursing is adorable.
>not getting it
>every shy girl voice
I really did not like Black Star's english voice, though.
Agreed, I really like Epcar.
Holy shit, what happened to Knuckles? What's with all the bandages? Is he a ninja now?
Daphne Gere. She only did like two things.
>mfw crispin freeman voiced sundowner
I'm actually looking forward to her voicing Tomoko. She is so miscast but it will be interesting.
I like Yuri Lowenthal. He's got a very natural delivery even if his range kinda sucks.
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn did a fucking fantastic job as the Major in SAC
the perfect combination of sexy and badass
although SAC is probably one of the highest quality english dubs
Wasn't she Harvestasha XP and Vista in Ar tonelico 3?
Bangzoom stop dubbing to anime?
I wonder how much they got payed.
I loved him in Angel Beats, but in Shana 2, he was what killed the dub for me. (I thought it would be Margery's recast or Shana, but I couldn't fucking breathe after hearing him as Keisaku). He's kinda hit or miss, but I like him. It also helps that he has a voice I want to fuck.
When hes doing a more proper voice, he's fine. He's fucking grating to hear when he does that squeeky dweeb voice though.
>there are people IN THIS THREAD that still watch toonami-tier garbage
You disappoint me /a/
But I liked the dub in The Big O.
Just imagine how wet she'd get browsing 4chan
what's your favorite anime :)
That reminds me, Tabitha St. Germain in that... I switched to subs after S1, but fuck do I miss her as Shana.
Although I don't think he does much anime these days having found his role as the new Nolan North.
You disgust me
As much as Sword Art Online pisses me off, I have to say that VA they got to dub MC's thirsty cousin has got some fucking chops.
I'm more disappointed when I see people shit on english dubbing like its the plague. Japanese dubs almost always are better, but that doesn't mean theres little to no decent-good english dubs.
But K-On is one of my favorite animes evar!! :DD
Shit, video not available in Australia. Anyone found an alternate link?
Cassandra Lee Morris is pretty talented. Her voice sounds like it can go places farther than anime dubs.
She voiced Ritz quite well and genki
Non Non Biyori dub when?
NNB is licensed and being dubbed by the same company who dubbed this:
Enjoy stomaching that.
I'm really impressed with the Magi dub so far. I just wish they'd finish the fucking thing already. But whatever, as long as the quality's good.
I also want to know what else Jafar's been in. I would have sworn he'd be voiced by Greg Ayres.
Nothing against him, but the guy they got fits perfectly.
>ctrl f Space Dandy
What is this bullshit.
Oh shit, I'm slowpoke as hell.
Also both you and OP forgot to mention Liam O'Brien and Laura Bailey.
>that fucking singing
Holy shit, this can't be real.
I wish I could say it wasn't.
>nobody mentioning Justin Cooks Yosuke
Michael Sinterniklaas is a good VA, but I really only like his variations on his Dean Venture voice.
I'd fuck Michelle Ruff
and Monica Rial
TOns of fun, indeed!
Is Vic Mignogna still the King of /a/?
>cute girls SOL dub with H. Jon Benjamin as main girl when?
>Gilbert Gottfried as genki girl
Why didn't you become a voice actor, /a/?
If General Ivan could do it, any autistic child with down syndrome could!
Did'ja know Gilbert Gottfried's voice isn't real?
When I first heard this I had chills. The dubs was significantly better in my opinion.
>H. Jon Benjamin as Archer will never happen.
Just realized that it was Steven Foster in charge of the dub, i.e the same dude who did the Ghost Stories dub script and directing, which explains why the dub ended up like it did.
>actually knowing the names of English VA's
Because I wanted money, and I have literally the worst voice I've ever heard.
>>actually knowing the names of Japanese VA's
Who gives a shit? They're the same squeaky, annoying ching chongs.
>actually knowing names of Japanese VAs
I bet you can't even pronounce Wakamoto right
Low quality bait.
Your le epin fish maymay isn't going to change anything.
Seriously, how hasn't that shit meme died yet?
Is that you, Fran Drescher?
I don't follow you. as long as he can say "daijobu?" in the style of Iago in Aladdin, everything will be alright.
Nope, I'm far worse.
i see wat you did there
Before he does that, he's gotta voice Shaggy.
That's just how it works
In all seriousness, I would actually watch an English dub of FSN if he was voicing Archer.
>I asked for the same thing you did: 100 dicks!
I'm glad /a/ is just tsundere for dubs.
Personally, I always watch localised stuff, so I can't really discuss anything "new" with /a/ so that kinda sucks.
>tsundere for dubs
I know I probably shouldn't watch as many dubs as I do, but
the Panty and Stocking dub had me laughing way more than the original audio, so I just watched it with that. on the other hand, people are telling me to watch Cromartie with dub, but I can't not listen to glorious Wakamoto
also, the Black Lagoon English dub is good, and the Revy's German voice turns my dick to tempered steel
>just tsundere for dubs
We're not, this is just a shit thread, and you need to kill yourself back to /co/, fucking casual faggot.
This thread is just full of fags that came here from /co/ because of Space Dandy, we don't watch dubs. I haven't watched a dub besides Space Dandy in 7 years.
Then I'm glad Space Dandy is airing on Toonami, so more people from the site that are new (or not) to anime can discuss localised stuff or just dubs in general in here; just like this thread.
Glad I'm watching it dubbed. Commie are bad enough as it is
I think you should leave.
Can someone tell me what accent they use in American dubs? It always sounds the same no matter which anime and I find it to be cringeworthy.
British dub is superior.
The standard one. Pretty sure it's formally known as "Californian".
Do people talk like that in real life or is it just an anime thing? That doesn't seem to be the case whenever I watch American movies or cartoons.
This is a thing?
It sounds the same to me. It's how I learned to fake an American accent and I get far too many compliments on it on exchange there.
every voice actor on shin chan are better than every other dub va
It should be a thing.
It's an anime thing. It's kind of like trying to act dramatic in a monotone with a mix of screaming voice. It's really odd once you notice it. And it's different from say...watching actual american cartoons
Fuck, I was going to post that. Best dub ever.
I'm gonna need subs for this.
What a buncha jokas'!
I got a Team Haberkorn shirt accidentally at a con last year, do you want it?
I'm not even really joking, it's been sitting on my dresser because I'd feel like a liar when I'm wearing it when I'm really team Ayres.
I usually find the Texan drawl, but it sounds cute on her..
>Why didn't you become a voice actor, /a/?
I can't enunciate very clearly. i had to go to speech therapy as a kid--for some reason I was great at reading but awful at actually SAYING phonics. It's still a struggle for me to speak without my words running together.
I probably could learn to be a lot better with intensive training but I don't have a passion for acting that I think you'd need even under the best of circumstances, so I'm pursuing other things. My fiance is an actor though.
Team both .
Real spoken Japanese sounds nothing like anime Japanese either
No, no, it's not Californian. Standard broadcast English is a Midwestern accent.
>implying Laura Bailey isn't amazing
OP, stop being so gay.
So basically everyone that has ever worked at Funimation in their lives.
Why is MC voiced by Austin Powers?
Ah, thank you. I'm a foreigner so I wasn't entirely sure.
Team sure why not
Fun fact: she's married to Travis Willingham.
Were you ever __me__ as a kid?
I had speech therapy in elementary school and even today I cringe when I hear my voice on recordings. I've even wanted to be a voice actor before and didn't learn how bad it was until I was recording songs with my cousin.
Probably not, since I've always wanted to be a writer more than an actor.
If it's something you actually have the drive for, practice and lessons would probably help. I think it's something that's fixable with a lot of work, I just don't have the motivation for it myself.
>Sugita: What's the fuck? Who is this gaijin? I wanna go back to my room and play game with Nakamura.
Asuka and Hyuga's respective VAs are married in 3D.
I think Tiffany Grant also deserves a mention. I can see why people wouldn't like her voice, but I think it was cute and I really respect her as a VA.
I got to talk to her briefly at a con once. She seems like a very nice woman.
I was never super-serious about it, but I'm interested. Same with writing, in fact.
True. And one day, if I get serious about it, I'll look into it, but I don't think I'll become Keith David anytime soon.
I read a post once where anon talked about e-mailing her, telling her how much of an inspiration she was. They ended up having a months-long correspondence via e-mail and she signed a ton of his merch and mailed it back to him. She's fucking based.
The only Keith David is Keith David, anon. I wouldn't worry over being him (or anyone else, for that matter).
Damn, that's even nicer than I thought.
I admire voice actors for doing stuff like that--particularly since they don't get the perks of being famous as much as film and TV actors do (high salaries, connections, etc). It's got to be tough to work so hard and burn so much energy on your fans.
I asked her to sign an autograph for a friend that said "I love sushi" and she knew exactly why I would ask for that. She told me all sorts of things about the Sakuracon commercial and how Vic only afforded her the sushi you see on screen.
Liam Obrien > Crispin Freeman
>Not teeside tintin
Michael McConnohie is a fucking boss.
True words. Thanks, anon.
Agreed. It's nice to hear about just how cool some VAs are. I really like hearing about how a lot of them got from where they started to where they are now. In the interview >>101720897 is taken from, she talks about how you have to be open and willing to do a lot of volunteer/unpaid work to hone your skills. I mean, that's a given I suppose, but she's been steadily building her career for years upon years and is now getting professional work.
Maybe that's why some of them are so involved in fan interaction - because they generally don't have "big breaks" to bring them suddely to celebrity; they have to put in a lot of effort just to go a little ways.
That's great. I know she's always been REALLY into her role as Asuka and it wouldn't surprise me if she remembers more fun moments and details of NGE than most of the creative staff.
What was that Sakuracon commercial?
What about kuwabaras voice actor
Why did you have to go there?
Why are threads like these allowed when seiyuu threads are shit upon? Check your double standards please, /a/.
Not as much as the VA from Japan i bet
It's not seiyuu threads that are shit on, but 2.5D "which seiyuu would you fuck" threads.
Most male dub actors are at least decent.
There still isn't a single half decent female one.
I'd murder a baby just for him to voice Dio in a Jojo dub
Other good ones at the top of my head:
Liam O Brien
Troy Baker is best
>Expecting an anime with a mostly female cast to get a good dub
That's pretty much an impossibility today.
What about Hyperdimension Neptunia?
And Time and Eternity, seeing I heard the Japanese script sucks
>seiyuu threads are shit upon
Wait, this happens now?
>implying Hayao Miyazaki
Pic related - the german voice actress of Yukari (Azumanga Daioh), Misato (NGE), Yuka (Elfen Lied) among others. Too bad she doesn't do many anime anymore nowadays.
>except for Crispin Freeman
Games weren't even fully dubbed. Several voiced lines in the Japanese audio aren't voiced in English.
>Time and Eternity
Pretty much the entire thing sucked except maybe its use of hand drawn animated cels for sprites.
I would a Cristina Vee
Because dubs are shit, the US anime market is shit, half normalfags with no taste and half rabid weaboos, and they hire shitty commercial voiceover actors instead of homegrowns
I think it would be awesome if /a/ actually did a fandub project, /a/ could do better than Funi any day of the week, the VAs they hire are shit
oh i didnt know we had a voice director that has worked with both english and japanese actors . Fuck off elitist.
Everything is shit, I am shit, you are shit and every iota of modern media consumption is irrefutably and irredeemably shit.
Where the hell am I?
She's her own waifu.
>shitty american dubs to top it
It's the weekend alright.
.... Fuck. I couldn't make it half a minute. Fucking "peacuuu!" killed me.
OP you tard, that's not God among men Liam O'Brien.
Johnny Yong Bosch
Overrated hack that attacks people for shitty reasons and advocates hardcore social justice warrioring
the fuck are you on about
What about Kyle Hebert?
Shizuo is Crispin
Glorious German Kyon was better.
Jamieson Price is good too
I met her at a con once and got her autograph. She's really nice and really cute in person.
Steve Blum, Johnny Yong Bosch, Patrick Seitz, Liam O'Brien, Michelle Ruff, Kari Wahlgren, Stephanie Sheh, Laura Bailey and Troy Baker would like to have a word with you.
Other than Liam and Crispin, other god tier English dub VAs off the top of my head:
Mary Elizabeth Motherfucking McGlynn
Steven Jay Blum
>generic VAs thats been in the industry for decades
Why is the western voice actor brigade so shitty?
I think you need to get the fuck out.
Still fucking mad.
This is not the voice of my 13th god.
OMG, Crispin Freeman looks like a child!
This is why you should never see your voice actors...
I had no idea these even existed.
Fuck, I forgot this guy! He's fucking excellent.
Here's a Panty and Stocking one.
what happened to you /a/?
I wish I looked that young for my age. When you get there you'll appreciate it
>not liking dubs
>not using rewd
>being this old fashioned
Cowboy Bebop and Baccano dub happened.
Cassandra Morris Lee? yeah shes pretty good even as Kyubey and Ritsu
He has a very specific voice. It's great for certain characters, like Sunohara, and Muttsurini, but for others, like MC in Another, it's just beyonbd wrong.
Who is Trina Nishimura
Who is Brina Palencia
>Ctrl + F "Tatum"
What is this bullshit? J Michael Tatum is in everything.
I think Brittney Karbowski is the closest we'll ever get to an English version of Aoi Yuuki.
