We all know how hard it is for authors to make you generally care for characters, but who were the villains that made you genuinely worried for the protagonists when he shows up?
Pic related, when I first read Eyeshield 21 Agon was pretty much the first villain to make me scared for Sena, the guys a fucking monster.
That ome black guy had me pissing my pants
Scary! 10/10 would lock doors
Eyeshield 21 was fucking great
I never cared about sena because he exists to be beaten up, but it was pretty srious when Himura broke his arm
cared I meant worried
>Agon was pretty much the first villain to make me scared for Sena, the guys a fucking monster
That's pretty much because he is the biggest asshole.
I wish the would make an american football manga with the quality of Slam Dunk.
Eyeshield 21 wasn't bad imo.
personally I thought it was excellent
I liked that they played more than 4 actual games, unlike in slam dunk
most JoJo big-bads make me worried when they show up
Too bad the manga slowly went to shit after the Naga match.
I like how in the vast majority of the series, the Devilbats lost a lot of games.
Also the entire team was built up from the ground up, every player we see gathered into the team and grow to fit their roles, instead of joining in the middle with a group of rather un-unique characters with the main guys being the only interesting people. Sena wasn't the only ace on the Devilbats. Monta was an ace receiver, and even then the non-aces were still incredible players, such as Musashi's kicks or Kurita's raw power. Plus its a series that actually takes the message of "hard work beats genius" and sticks with it, none of the Devilbats are geniuses, and through intense training and hard work they beat some of the greatest geniuses.
Naga game was 11/10 ethereal
Ojo game was 10/10 perfection
Hakushou game was 7/10 pretty good
Teikoku game was 6/10 acceptable
it only ever got "shit" with the world cup arc.
>not a genius
I don't know what you're talking about
the handsome prince of football is a double-genius, even
What, the Oujou match was fucking hype, and yeah the Dinosaurs came out of no where which was pretty neat, and yeah the Alexanders were a bit shitty, but it was still a great game.
But I will agree the world cup arc was pretty shitty, though it gets points for being after the main plot, so skipping it doesnt take anything away from the story except a few last minute character developments.
Sorry, I dunno what I was thinking, Taki was a genius of geniuses.
>all that porn from kon-kitt
Agreed, the world cup arc felt like DLC
so many choice moments in that series
>interview with Hiruma and Agon
>what is you strong point?
>I always win
>I never lose
my fucking face when
Panther a bro
>All the times Sena got angry as fuck at Agon trash talking the third years dreams
I loved Sena's character, he was a wimpy kid, but on the field he was a boss, regardless of who he faced.
I love how it even starts on a new tankobon, so you can own the series and have it whole and wonderful, and then if you want buy the extras, but you don't need it, and aren't left with the second half of your last volume trying to hype you up for something you don't want to read.
Yeah, most of the time when JoJo enters it's endgame chapters people start dropping like flies
the first time Kumagawa showed up in the minus arc. That was a "holy shit you guys are all screwed" moment.
>"Oh, enjoying the story so far? Here final boss to ruin everyones fun"
aside from specific moments, there were a lot of good character arcs and side-stories going on, too.
>hiruma and mamori's relationship
>sakuraba manning the fuck up
>yukimitsu manning the fuck up
>marco and his girl
>being usui is suffering
>ha-ha-ha bros becoming cool guys instead of jerkholes
Most of a time?
It's a certainty, the only one it didn't happen was Part 4.
And it still happened.
After reading eyeshield 21 I wanted to satiate my curiosity of the nuances of the series and went to the wiki
Did Suzuna win the senab owl? Is Mamori banging Hiruma? Why is there so much yaoi of this series. The wiki even had this entry
>A few years after that he got drafted by Panther's NFL team the San Antonio Armadillos and became their starting quarterback. He went on to have a long hall of fame NFL career like teammate Panther and fellow Japanese players Yamato, Sena, Taka and Shin.
I don't remember any of the japanese players being drafted by an American team. Is that fan fiction?
Naga coach a shit
>"Oh this kid is a one in a million fucking genius, but instead of forcing him to hone his skills and nurture his talent to make him unbeatable, I'm gonna let him do whatever the fuck he wants because he is talented, and thats good enough"
If the coach forces him, he might quit based on his personality.
It's left pretty up in the air, but most likely Sena and Suzuna got together off screen, and Mamori and Hiruma probably did too, I mean they went to the same college, thats pretty kawaii.
That was pretty dumb indeed.
It's better than letting his talent rot. It took losing to the Devilbats to get Agon to get his act together and actually start training. As the coach of the team the old fuck should be pushing his players to go as far as they can, not let the most talented player in pretty much all of Japan coast on just his talent.
>Did Suzuna win the senab owl?
Suzuna is completely forgotten which lead me to believe her only point in existence was to reel in shippers with one sided ship teases that went nowhere.
>Is Mamori banging Hiruma?
It's shonen so no. Except for Agon and some random bitches.
>Why is there so much yaoi of this series
It's a very yaoi friendly manga.
The Hahaha Bros arc was pretty great, also Yukimitsu was great, especially when he was the first touchdown against the Naga
I also like Monta's arc, becoming a world class receiver and leading up to the Backfire.
Posting the real climax of Eyeshield 21.
so, which is the strongest college team?
Enma Uni: Sena, Monta, Unsui, Kurita, Riku, Mizumashi, Koutarou and Suzuna as cheerleader
Saikyoudai Uni: Hiruma, Yamato, Taka, Banba, Jumonji, Ikyuu, Akaba and Agon with Mamori
Oujou Uni: Shin, Ootawara and Sakuraba
In a med school: Takami and Yukimitsu
Zokuto - Habashira
Takekura Constructors: Musashi, Gaou, Kid, Onihei, Kuroki, Tetsuma, and Togano
That entire arc had me worried for literally everyone.
See that and realize how pathetic the match against Teikoku turned out. They totally fucked up the Xmas Bowl on every level.
Revealed at the end of the final tankoubon, Saikyoudai is the only S team. Also shit fanfiction material level 12 years old wet dream.
I'm rereading the whole thing right now and I'm trying to see why the manga lost so much quality after that match. It's pretty disappointing onward.
Saikyoudai no question.
Nah, Suzuna is in every damn game seeing as shes the cheerleading captain. Also she, some how, grows up to be even hotter than she was during the series.
She's forgotten as a character at this point. She is as relevant as Cerberus.
They also fucked up the all-star battle against murrica.
That was amazing.
I actually liked the world cup arc... It was like, boss rush mode. It was fun. It carried the message OK- you can't beat genetics, but hardwork is awesome, yo
I guess terrible ratings forced them to abort their oh so creative world arc. What I find particularly disgusting though is that during the World Arc, Murata finally got his shit together, the Teikoku match had garbage art and panel composition and shit lzay shit writing. I wish he'd use his energy to make Teikoku look better and let the rest sink.
The world cup arc was forced by the editors, it was supposed to end after christmas bowl.
Having reread the whole thing, I found the whole true E21 being completely erased from Notre Dame records very fishy. It could mean nothing but the way it was presented really ties with Yamato being removed by force by Don. I think they had the idea for a while.
You might not expect it but bitches love sport manga even more than blokes
it's always hard to tell if that last shitty part of any manga was intended to be there but sucked, or an afterthought because the editors refused to let the series end.
I don't think any mangaka has ever publicly stated "I was forced to continue it", I know Toriyama has said several times that he never felt forced at all, he just was like "eh, sure, why not keep going?"
The world arc ruined the hype for all the characters matching them against bland enemy teams and muh superior black genetic.
>this never had a chance in america
I know dubs are awful, but I can't help but want things I like to become liked by the wide audience, as well. and a fucking football anime, that shouldn't be too hard to push, huh?
Dinosaurs was always my favourite game and I'd always considered it an obvious choice, I'm really shocked that anyone thinks that Eyeshield was weaker after Naga, because I felt that it kept getting better into the White Knights and climaxing with DInosaurs before it started a decline.
But y'know, that's just my opinion.
Eyeshield 21 was more Dragonball than sports manga.
I can never go back to real NFL after seeing the shit Eyeshield pulled.
To be honest even if the final part is definitely no good and betrayed the original dynamics of the story, there was something about it that has been missing for a while, Murata was putting genuine effort and care into and Inagaki felt more inspired at bringing characters to life. Prior to this actually after the Naga arc both of them felt tired and dried, unable to offer a product of the same quality and ambition that the 23 first volumes had.
The anime is awful compared to the manga.
At the end of the manga sena is a believable elite player but in the anime he looks like a moron till the end.
Is Eyeshield 21 manga worth reading?
Someone watched the whole anime?
In my case, I got into the NFL because of Eyeshield 21. I was never interested in football, and I'm glad I started following it. I understood everything that was going on in the very first game I watched. It was pretty cool.
Enma uni. Because running can't be stopped at college level.
Yes and I only skipped 2 filler episodes. After reading the manga I realized how awful the anime is.
What were the filler episodes about? Did they have some anime-only teams or what?
That moment was amazing.
I remember one being about devil bats and white knights partying on a ship.
That was one of the very few moments the Ojo match compared to the Naga. Every time Yukimitsu is around he gets to do cool stuff.
That sounds great in theory.
What arc/chapter should I assume that eyeshield 21 ended? Someone mentioned that the manga should've ended there instead.
I wish there was more porn of the managers of each football team.
The problem is that they hyped up the last match against white knights right before showing the filler.
Also is the death walk traning even possible in real life?
Read the whole thing. The world arc is good fanservice and pretty short.
Nah, I agree. The match against the Dinosaurs was pretty good too.
why people don't like world cup arc?
A lot of the fun in ES21 comes from rooting for the underdog, but Team Japan just steamrolls everyone until the last game that doesn't even get a proper ending.
Every time when a new villian showed up in Akame ga kill.
Didn't really like the monta stuff to be honest, always felt like his character was overdone.
>stupid dream team taking away the whole point of what was great about the DDB
>not a team following a dream, just an arrogant pissing contest with the USA
>rushed as fuck
>extanding the plot at the very last minute felt like taking the readers for degenerate Narutards
>shallow USA players though better than Teikoku
>horrible, horrible final chapter promoting we have American Football autism while flipping the bird at characters
It was absolutely ridiculous. I mean, I liked how the writer stayed true to the underdog sentiment until the very end, but Japan playing USA to a draw for extra-time in a highschool gridiron world cup?
Requires too much suspension of belief
Monta got old near the end, it's as if the last 3 Demon matches had nothing but him and Sena.
Is there actually an NFL player that does no-look catches regularly? Youtube doesn't seem to have such an example at all
That fucking manga.
It's my favorite
the exact moment I dropped this manga
maybe I should pick it up again sometimes
>American's start award ceremony cause they weren't expecting an tie game, even though the series teased about overtime games three times in the series
You can pinpoint the exact moment both of their hearts' break.
You really should, since then it has been an amazing ride.
The only surprise is that Japan didn't win.
I mean they had everything and could pull of every tactic possible.
The fact this never happened before or during the Christmas Bowl points to a serious lack of effort.
Daniel Lau has already scanlated 2 chapters, most likely the ride will continue in mid feb
Hopefully. My mood is directly related to this manga. It ended on a very sad note and I need something good to happen to him.
This fucking moment. Damn, I loved ES21.
Agreed, the Dinosaurs arc is one of my favorite games because it matched two underdog teams that used all available resources they could to get to where they are, and what happens when Deimon's backbone who was calling all the shots would get brutally injured.
Also, Gaou was entertaining as hell.
And then Teikoku LEL
But then the Devilbats would have lost. Niggers can't be the winners in anime unless they are from America.
Problem with Hakushu is that they had little to show aside from Gao. Kisaragi was pretty adorable but he had to leave for half the match. I really feel that after the Naga match E21 can bu summed up to good ideas, lacking execution.
I'm not an ameritard and I know almost nothing about american football and I kinda hate it, could I enjoy Eyshield 21?
Yes, despite being a sports manga, E21 was made in a way people with no interest in sports coul enjoy it. It's pretty fabulous.
Anime sports is not comparable to the real thing.
Everything that is bro science in our world is a hard fact in anime. Also eyeshield 21 is even unrealistic compared to other sports manga.
I dislike football but I love eyeshield.
That was kinda bullshit, the writers probably couldn't hear themselves fapping, I can understand the talent and the reflexes but getting buff this much without training at all? Cut the crap, what is training supposed to fix when the guy is already bathing in plot armor?
It was suppose to fix the fact that he could lose, except he still did to Panther and Don.
Better yet, he never surpassed Shin or Yamato due to how short the series was.
Everyone can lose training or not.
>Better yet, he never surpassed Shin or Yamato
If you look closely, reflexes aside, Agon is the best at nothing.
The climax for me was White Knights - Dinosaurs was ok, but was too much focused on the "We have the bigger lineman" gimmick.
White Knights match was more "complete".
Naga was a more complete match than the WK.
But unlike Shin or Yamato, his strength was close to theirs simply by doing jack shit.
It's possible he could have surpassed them completely if he was like Shin from the start, but that's playing ifs and no one cares about that.
>no one cares about that
More like no one should.
>the manga acted like 0.1 second speed difference is like light speed against normal speed
I wish there was any.
>none of the devilbats are geniuses
sena was a genius at running away
monta was a genius catcher to the max
hiruma was a genius extorsionist
the huh brothers were genius huh-ers
kurita was a genius funurabaist
musashi was a genius low wage worker
did we read the same series?
>tfw there will never be a sports manga as good as eyeshield 21
